Current No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.

Arguing over petty details at times of dimensional emergency was a familiar wizardly trait.

A wizard never had friends, at least not friends who were wizards. It needed a different word. Ah yes, that was it. Enemies. But a very different class of enemies. Gentlemen.

You open your eyes and gasp for air. There's something in your lungs, and you cough and retch to get it out. A cold, white liquid runs down your chin, but at last you can breathe. You can't remember anything; not where you are, or when, or... or WHO you are. You're trapped inside a small, confined space, like a coffin. The walls are a pristine white and slightly curved, like an oval, and the space is illuminated by an unknown source.

Feeling the panic rising, you put your hands on the surface above you, a mere foot from your face. It feels cold and plastic, or maybe metallic, you can't really tell. It doesn't yield, no matter how hard you try. Letters suddenly flash in front of you, a bright red against the spotless white.

ALERT.
MALFUNCTION DETECTED.
OXYGEN LEVELS CRITICAL.
ENGAGE MANUAL RELEASE.

You're in full panic now. Sweat breaks out all over your body, naked except for white synthetic underwear covering your pelvis. It's cold. You're trapped. Time is running out. You feel tears burning at the corners of your eyes. You're shaking all over. It can't end like this. You have to get out.

What do you do?

Welcome

In Tenebris is a sci-fi horror game set in the far future. The themes of the game include exploration, resource management, cooperation, betrayal - and the horrors of deep space.

New players must post a CS in the Character Tab containing the sheet below. Leave it as it is until instructed to fill in the blanks in the IC.

Each post, your character may attempt one Action. You must describe How your character attempts to complete the action. Apart from the Action, your character may Move (walking a short distance in a room or down a hallway, dropping prone or rising from a prone position, climbing a ladder, etc) and Speak (asking or answering a question, stating a fact, shouting a threat or warning, etc). You must wait for feedback on your Actions, Movements, and Speech before posting again. When interacting with the environment or with NPCs, I will provide that feedback. When interacting with other players, they will provide the feedback. If two players perform contradictory Actions (racing to grab an object, attacking or defending) I will provide an outcome based on the descriptions and any relevant information in their CSs.

Possible Actions

  • Examine- Your character attempts to identify what a thing is, or how it operates, or if it has qualities beyond what is immediately apparent.
  • Use- Your character attempts to manipulate or operate an object.
  • Take - Your character attempts to add an object to their Equipment.
  • Attack - Your character attempts to use physical force on an object, NPC, or character in order to damage or destroy it.
  • Defend - Your character attempts to deflect or evade an attack from the environment, NPC, or character.
  • Skill (name of skill) - Your character attempts to use a skill. This Action is often an add-on to another Action (for example Use: Skill (electronics), Move: Skill (stealth), Speak: Skill (deception). You may only use Skills that you have been instructed to add to your CS.
  • Equipment (name of Equipment) - Your character attempts to use an item they possess. This Action is often an add-on to another Action (for example Use: Equipment (blue keycard), Attack: Equipment (ray gun), Move: Equipment (jet pack). You may only use Equipment that you have been instructed to add to your CS.

Other Actions may be added if the need arises.

When posting for the first time, you respond to the initial IC post. Mark that post with the header "ACTIVATING" and tag me at the end.

Feel free to ask questions and discuss the game in the OOC. Keep the discussion coordial, and try to keep the game fun and interesting for everyone involved.

Looking forward to playing with you!
I feel like I want to post, but a voice in the back of my head tells me I should wait a bit to give the others a chance to respond. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm hyped!
@CollectorOfMyst No problem, just checking in!
@CollectorOfMyst@Fuzzybootz How's it going for you, friends?

High above the crowded room, hidden in the rafters, a white mouse scurried to and fro. The faint light from the candles and lanterns of the tavern barely reached the logs where the mouse moved, leaving it obscured in the shadows. The mouse seemed very interested in the comings and goings of the people below it, following them with its beady little eyes, sniffing the air for their scents. One man in particular drew the attention of the little white mouse, wearing heavy armor and an eye patch. The mouse watched as a series of strangers approached the man, each handing him a small token. They were then led aside to an adjoining room, much to the excitement of the mouse. It could feel, in its tiny little heart, that it was onto something.

Deciding to investigate, the mouse ran along the rafters until it reached the fastenings of a large wall hanging, using it to safely climb to the floor below. Once there, it scurried inside the room where the strangers had been led, finding them gathered there. It had to run past two of them - a young woman and a large man - on the way in, as they were blocking the entrance, but it managed just fine. The mouse found a nice dark corner to hide in, but it wouldn't stay hidden for long. With a strange stretching sound, the mouse began to change. It grew in size at a rapid pace, its limbs contracting and elongating. It grew a face and shed its fur, and before long it was not a mouse at all, but an elvian.

Simbel drew herself upright, stretching her back and taking a sharp breath. Her arms and legs popped as she moved them, clenching and unclenching her fists. With a final crack of her neck, she turned towards the room. She looked at the strangers one after the other, studying them. Simbel had not met many people outside of the coven, and even fewer like these people. She felt slightly intimidated by them, but curious too. A token of her own was produced from somewhere in her clothing and held up for the strangers to see. It was engraved with a ghastly picture of a humanoid goat, male and female at once, a symbol of the Wilder.

"What is this?" Simbel asked, her voice calm and monotone, "And what does it have to do with Mother?"

Simbel looked at what apparently passed for food being sloshed into wooden bowls and offered around to her fellow companions. She could see the individual components swimming around in the slop, see the minced and mashed pieces of the plants and animals sacrificed to make this... this thing. All of it wasted. All of it ruined. Nice, tender rabbits slaughtered, only to be defiled. She couldn't stop her nose from wrinkling at the smell, and as the ignorant woman turned to offer Simbel a bowl of her own, she realized she must be frowning too, because the woman shied back when meeting her gaze. I do not eat... that, she said, holding out her hand to pass up on the stew. I will hunt my own food.

Turning around, her yellow eyes fell on the next affront. The so-called beds. Damp, dirty, lice infested sacks of cloth. And they were supposed to... to share them? It was more than Simbel could bear. As if having to sleep cooped up inside a small, smelly house wasn't enough, they expected her to degrade herself even further? No. She would sleep in the fresh air, under a starlit sky, where she could smell the scents of night and hear its denizens. She looked about the room, searching for some kind of solace, but there was none. A small window up by the rafters caught her attention. It would probably serve.

I will sleep in the wild, she said, I will find you at dawn. Then, without waiting for an answer, she transformed once more. In a matter of moments her hair and skin had been exchanged for a white feather coat, her arms for wings, and her legs for razor sharp talons. The eagle took flight, slipped through the window, and was lost in the night.
