Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom.
I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.

The lands to the north of the Expeditionary Force from Earth's base were much like the northern reaches of the home planet of humanity. Mountain ranges, hills, and hardy vegetation began to take over from the greener, prettier and more temperate plants, and the trees became more evergreen and less deciduous. More grey rock and bare dirt pervaded the landscape; though the soaring peaks, shallow, fast, white-capped rivers and thick swathes of trees had a beauty all their own, and the stillness and untouched perfection of the landscape was breathtaking.
All of this was not lost on the survey and reconnaissance team weaving it's way back from a weeks-long trip to the scattered Avalonian settlements and sites of special interest, established by satellites launched from the Expeditionary Forces. However, with their latest revelations from the information they'd uncovered, they were in decidedly more of a hurry, and less concerned with the landscape.
The small convoy of vehicles splashed through a shallow river and ground through grass-covered banks, driving south with determination.
Aboard the lead MRAP of the group, the specialist-sergeant in the passenger seat chewed his thumb nervously, and again scanned the skies, agitation plain in his fidgety movements and darting eyes.
"Sir," the driver started, flicking his eyes sideways to him. "Is there anything-"
"Keep your eyes on the road, Raymore," the Sergeant replied. "Looks like there's a snowstorm rolling in... and we're still more than twenty miles from the nearest forward operating base."
"Try the radio again," urged the voice from the backseats. "There might be better reception now".
The Sergeant glanced back over his shoulder at the Avalonian in the back seat, who had a pleading expression in her eyes.
"We have to get in touch with someone," she pleaded. "If the Yerrill-"
There was a shrieking whistle, and something split the sky above them, flashing over the convoy, leaving contrails in its' wake, and whipping the trees back and forth. A rumbling followed, from their rear and growing closer. All exchanged glances, and the driver gunned the engine. One of the passengers in the rear scrambled to climb up onto the MRAP's turret-mounted .50 cal, while the sergeant clawed for the radio microphone.
A dark shadow fell over the fleeing vehicles.

At the Forward Base, calls went out as garbled radio messages came through. Alerts were raised, co-ordinates established and assets polled... and the Expeditionary Force reached an impasse; there weren't enough aircraft or forces in the area to vector a full squadron or flight.
"What have we got in the area?" asked the officer in charge of the area through gritted teeth, dragging a cigarette down to the filter in one stressed breath, before fumbling to light another, his fingers twitching.
The junior woman in charge of the screens and consoles tracking all of the forces' assets tapped controls with fingers that moved with a pianists' precision and grace, and looked back over her shoulder.
"There are two aircraft not assigned to any flight; they're both armed and on their way back from other assignments-"
"Who and what?"
"Uh, Major Valentine in an A-10C, and Lieutenant Ericsson in an F-2"
"Vector them in, and give them the lowdown; that convoy needs to make it back to base. THey need to hold long enough for reinforcements to make it"
"Yessir!"

"This is FOB Corona to Major Valentine and Lieutenant Ericcsson. Urgent assistance required for close air support and aerial cover for a convoy unit under attack, co-ordinates incoming..."

Scott's eyes widened under his helmets' visor as he received the orders. He'd been on his way back from an uneventful CAP for a research outpost, and now this... He was glad he'd taken on fuel, and expended no ordnance.
"Well... this is Heartbreak. Send me the info... I take it you're not sendin' me into the meat grinder on my own, over?"
"Negative, Heartbreak. We got you a dance partner. Lieutenant Ericsson is en route too. She should be there to cover your ass, over".
"Well, all right then... best get moving quick, it looks like there's a storm comin' in".
Scott rolled the A-10C onto the new course, angling over the landscape below, shifting in his seat as the dark steel-grey of the clouds above formed a tense ceiling to the impending sortie. All of a sudden, the situation had changed from a routine flight into plunging into danger to save others. It might be a walk in the park; it might be a dice with death. Either way, it was something different, something new - and exactly what he was trained for.
Switching radio frequencies, he tried to establish radio contact with his impromptu partner as the miles rolled down on his instruments.
"This is Heartbreak One to Ericsson. Looks like we have some souls that need saving down there. What say we get this show over with before the snow starts falling, and get a couple of drinks back at base to warm us up, over?"

It's all good, it's stuff I'm working on dealing with, and tonight will be easier since it's Friday and I don't have to rush as much since I don't have work the next day.
I have a bit more a good idea on how to start too; I think getting us going with some action from the start and our characters almost being thrown together by circumstances, and then sticking together after might be a good way to introduce them and get us off to a quick start and some action out of the gate. Plus then they'll have more to talk about immediately afterward and have an experience in common to discuss.
I have been meaning to get something up, but I've been struggling with motivation to do anything lately, let alone roleplaying.
I'll try and get something up on Friday so we can get started.
Got a post up, not really too proud of it, but I didn't especially know what to put up this time. I'm not really good at ice-breaking. I'm sure it'll get better as we go along.
Ryan sat atop one of the crates the rest of the squadron had gathered around.
It wasn't his first new squadron; he'd been in others and been the new guy there, and it was a familiar dance. Just the steps were a little bit different each time, what with the different personalities, traditions, routines and the like. 'Relaxed' though, was something he could do; he'd been in front-line squadrons more than once, and there the standards were relaxed a little on a regular basis. As such, he wore his flight suit, but with the sleeves rolled up and his hair was certainly more than a few inches past what was technically regulation.

While he wasn't a total outsider, he didn't feel quite at home yet, or at ease, so the American sat on the edge of the group, attentive and with a modicum of relaxation as he perched on top of a crate. He'd reported in the day before, made a few introductions and seen the others around - just not yet had the chance to get to really speak with any of them, what with all the preparations for the Big Day.
The excitement and tension in the air ahead of 'zero hour', the SDF-1's big liftoff and departure, the moment where ten years of long, hard work got to prove itself was coming ever-closer and there was an electric thrill running through buzz of activity all around the hangar, and beyond.
He could see it in his fellow pilots too; the boisterous and pretty blond one was doing (quite distracting) sit-ups, the boss was a picture of concentration as he checked everyone in, and off of a list. For Ryan, it came out as his left leg jiggling. And when he noticed and stopped that, it was his hands and fingers tapping against the edge of the crate.
Huffing, he forced himself to sit still, and looked up as another female pilot arrived; dark-haired and small with tanned skin, she reminded him of some movie star he'd seen in a few action movies.
He gave a quiet smile at the thought, but kept quiet, only nodding and grinning slightly at Kat's words.
"Take a seat," he added after she'd spoken. "You're lucky there's a few left" He said with a smile.
Ryan will definitely be one of the newer ones to the squadron, as you said yourself.
I'll try and get a post up either this evening or tomorrow.

Haha, not that there would have been anything wrong with that either!
I think the F-2 is a good choice because it's so versatile though.

I had to choose the A-10 in the end; I love my ground-attackers. It was between that and the AV-8B Harrier II.
I like your character, she looks great. Should be an interesting team-up dynamic between her and Scott and how they work together. Also love the choice of plane too, the F-2 is a great aircraft.

In terms of getting things going, I'll get us going with the intro to things, and try and get the post up before the weekend.
I'm here too, been checking in dutifully.
