Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.
Personality: Cocky, but professional, Scott is the quintessential fighter pilot. He walks the walk and talks the talk. He is confident and self-assured in his skills, but when the sticky stuff hits the fan, the swagger and breezy humour disappear and he becomes all business. He has steel behind the smile, and it shows in his eyes. His knack of dealing with people and being able to put down the law when needed has given him a good rep - despite some incidents in his career and personal life where things have gotten a little over the line - mainly because he is willing to stick his neck out for other people, especially those under his command, or who are being harassed or hounded by others. He does his best to be likable and build camaraderie and a good relationship with people around him, and tries to see the best of others, regardless of their outlook on him. Generally thinks the best of people, and gives them the benefit of the doubt - but can be vicious and unrelenting when his trust is betrayed, or he sees others abusing their power, privilege, or ability to hurt those with none of their own.
Personal History: Served during the wars prior to the Cataclysm as a USMC pilot. He has been an AV-8B Harrier II pilot throughout his career. As such, the majority of his action has been in support of Marine ground operations, consisting of close air support strikes, interdiction strikes, reconnaissance, tactical strikes of enemy assets or positions, and attacks on hostile surface targets, as well as escort of allied helicopters. Military service was a case of striking out to find his own way and independence, in an effort to get away from a boring and quiet childhood and home town. Left behind a younger sister - by a couple of years - whom he cares for greatly. She also left home behind, but to pursue a career as a medical aid worker and doctor. His parents died in the cataclysm, something he regrets greatly, despite knowing he could not have really helped them. Scott's career has been especially varied. As mentioned, flying the Harrier II has put him in harm's way for a variety of operations, especially during the cataclysm and he has seen combat of many and varied kinds, including air-to-air combat against hostile forces. He has scored victories in these engagements, notable for a Harrier pilot, and something not often seen since the British and the Falklands War. As a result of his career and record, he was noted for promotion to squadron leader. With the creation of the unified forces structure, he was instead reassigned as the leader of the new Shadow Flight, due to his experiences fighting around the world against Elysium's earliest attacks.
Aircraft:
The Harrier III is the ultimate - and some would say final - evolution of the Harrier airframe, a design that originated in the 1960's in England, and resulted in the most successful and versatile STOVL aircraft design so far. The Harrier III maintains the basic shape and form of the Harrier's classic design, and still features a version of the Pegasus engine as its' core. However, the Harrier III is a new-build design that incorporates modern avionics and electronics, as well as modern construction materials and techniques, bringing the design up to 21st century standards and knowledge of aviation design, as well as incorporating several features considered in earlier design studies or projects for 'advanced' Harrier versions. Composite materials are used for lighter weight throughout the aircraft and its' engine. Advanced fly-by-wire controls are used throughout, along with a fully digital glass cockpit with touch-screen interfaces. A helmet-mounted targeting system is used, and the radar has been upgraded to an AESA radar, along with other sensor updates, and the 'big wing' including additional wingtip hardpoints for light anti-air missiles. The airframe has received minor tweaks and revamps all over akin to the 'Super Hornet' version of the F/A-18, incorporating edge-aligned hatches, panels, and doors wherever possible to reduce the planes' radar signature. With the Pegasus Engines' turbine face this does not have a huge reduction in signature, but is nonetheless an added bonus, along with the incorporation of other radar-reducing measures. The avionics updates have also allowed the Harrier III to be compatible with all NATO weapon systems.
The world has changed. After the wars, after the cataclysm that fell from the skies, humanity rebuilt from the ashes on the face of an Earth that had changed. New countries, new societies, and new alliances have taken hold. But threats are still out there; a breakaway faction has their own plans for the restructuring and rebuilding of society - and are poised to take violent control, using new technologies and new, radical ideas to threaten the new, young cities and countries as they grow. Society teeters on a knife-edge, and it is only through the efforts of Shadow Flight, an elite team of aerial aces, picked from the ranks of the world's air forces, that they can be held back. Whatever their plans are, they must be uncovered before everything is returned to fire and ash once more. The battle for the future of Earth will be in the skies above it, where shadows of steel are gathering...
Shadows of Steel is an RPG based on the likes of Ace Combat, Area 88, HAWX and other aerial fight anime, games, movies and works. It has some emphasis on realism, but more on world-trotting adventures in the skies, with some sci-fi elements of superweapons, advanced technologies, and dramatic, large-than-life heroics, drama, and high-stakes action.
Players take the role of pilots in the elite special operations group 'Shadow Flight' in the post-apocalyptic world of an Earth shattered by a global war and an impact event. The plot is designed to evolve and expand as more missions are completed, and the stakes and danger will raise as things progress. Characters will need to rely on one another, as well a their aircraft, to get them through the dangers, and unravel the plot the mysterious and deadly 'Think Tank' have arrayed against them, and against the world.
A full range of lore and background information can be found in a Microsoft One Note document here
Any questions of course, please do ask and I will do my best to answer. While an encyclopedic knowledge of modern aircraft combat is not needed, having at least some familiarity with and interest in military life, and also combat aircraft would be very helpful. A willingness to learn and understand is also equally needed. All characters are required to be Shadow Flight pilots, no support personnel or non-pilot characters will be allowed, and no enemy characters will be allowed either.

The GM's word is final - although, I am open to discussion
If the GM doesn't know about it, it doesn't exist - which goes for character backgrounds, information about the setting, or anything else.
If you're not sure - ask
You are welcome to play a character with any kind of personality you like - but remember, if you play an asshole or a loner and no-one speaks to you or takes an interest - you chose that character to play.
If you're interested enough to join in and submit a character in the first place, then I expect you to be interested enough to check the site and reply. It is not my job to chase you for posts, or remind you to make them.
When posting your character sheet, please post it in the OOC first, and wait for approval before posting into the Characters tab.
Name: Age:No younger than 20; it's hard to believe in an 18 year old ace Gender: Nationality: Appearance:Anime pictures or art are both fine. Written descriptions also fine. Personality:A few short lines summing up their demeanour and outlook. Personal History:Does not need to be extensive, just a little about how they got to where they are, any important events or people. Remember to include anything you want to come up in the RP. If you want things to be secret from other players, then please at least message the GM with those secret parts - otherwise, how else will they come up? Aircraft:See the aircraft list in the document linked in the OP post. You will have chances to upgrade later. Personal Weapons & Equipment:Shadow Flight personnel may be required to fight on the ground sometimes, though you're not intended to be one-man armies or Super-duper special forces operators, so keep it modest.
Almost as if in answer to Max's question as to them getting going, the transports engines howled to life, the sound building up rapidly. Lights inside the bay flashed as the ramp came up, and the loadmaster directed them all to take their seats and strap. It didn't take long before the plane started to roll. From inside there wasn't much to see, but the sense of movement was real as the aircraft rolled onto the runway and accelerated.
The flight passed with little event for the most part. Silverwind used the time to get some sleep, and to eat. After all, there was little else to do. The only other thing was to review the mission data again, and run through options for the assault, and keep up to date - as much as they could - with any intel from the scene.
Matt threw the RGZ-91 through another series of tight manoeuvers. Full throttle on all thrusters from the backpack, before abruptly flipping orientation and braking. He spun on the spot using AMBAC maneuvering, the suits' sensors easily locking onto the nearest stationary target and ripping off a burst of fire from the Re-GZ's head vulcans, tracers drawing vibrant lines through the darkness of space. A flick of the controls threw the mobile suit's left arm out and blasted off a pair of rocket-propelled grenades into another target, before he blasted away into a weaving, high-speed pattern of moves, rinsing the mobile suits' flight computers through a demanding routine. "That looks good, Matt," the voice of the flight controller came through the speakers in his normal suits' helmet. "Telemetry from the latest set of manoeuvers looks good; tightening up the response time from the vernier thrusters in the right leg seems like it was a good call. You can head on back now". "Roger that, control," he replied as he throttled back, letting the suit drift with its' momentum, spinning to face the distant gleam that marked the control ship. "I'm returning-" he cut off as a warbling chirp from the Re-GZ's sensors interrupted him. The machine had picked up something unusual, some kind of electromagnetic disturbance that was growing in intensity. "Control, I'm picking up some unusual interference, some kind of signal. I'm moving to investigate, over" The reply was muted and choppy with static, and he pressed one gloved hand to the side of his helmet with a frown, trying to pick out words as he spun to face the direction of the interference as it grew closer. He fed a little thrust into the RGX-91's engines and moved closer. At once, the suits' warnings sounded, warbling alerts flashing up. At the same instant, pressure grew in his head, a throbbing headache building from behind his eyes and pounding against his skull. His vision swam and he physically reeled, shuddering in his seat. Shimmering double vision clouded his sight and the speakers of his helmet blasted static, the displays of the suit throwing our alert after alert, as the pressure in his skull grew to a roaring pounding... and then blackness washed over him as a relief.
Some Time Later, Somewhere Else...
Consciousness returned with a jolt, and a brief shout of some unremembered dream or memory. Matt gasped in air, through the now-open shield of his helmet. The cockpit of the Re-GZ hummed comofortably around him, with no trace of the earlier signal. He rubbed one hand across his face, chasing away the last bits of drowsiness and disorientation before he turned his attention to the Re-GZ. The mobile suits' displays showed that he was no longer in space, something that he couldn't account for. He didn't recognise his surroundings either. In the distance, a tall building that looked Chinese or Japanese in origin rose, and closer by were what looked like the functional, drab shapes of military buildings and structures. More interesting still were the two mobile suits and a ship of some kind that showed up on the suits' sensors. None of them matched anything familiar enough to make an identification, but there was nothing else around to make contact with, no signs of any known frequencies or signals. With no signs of other life, Matt made the decision to head toward the other mobile suits.

Biography: Born into a family in rural America on Earth, Matt was the oldest son of his family. Shouldering a lot of the responsibility growing up and living a small town life, he was never comfortable farming and living off the land, and dreamed of travelling, seeing what the rest of the world had to offer, and visiting space. Far out in the countryside, his family lived under transit routes for aircraft travelling overhead, and he dreamed of flight. As such, when he graduated from High School, he joined the Earth Federation Forces and set out to become a pilot. Matthew started his military career in a Saberfish fighter squadron. He entered into the One Year War late, and he was lucky to have survived the closing engagements. He found he had to learn quickly, and that was what kept him alive when got his dream of seeing space. Shaken by the loss of so many people around him and by his own survival, his first leave back to Earth was spent with his family, and he found himself strangely distant from his parents and siblings, them still being less-than approving of his choice to serve. Left feeling bitter and torn by his feelings, his behaviour became somewhat self-destructive over the next months, despite his early career showing promise. He crashed out of active duty after too many incidents of disorderly conduct and dereliction of duty. After interviews with medical personnel, including psychologists, Matt was shown to be suffering from PTSD, and was given remedial counselling and support, removed from a front-line role. He showed a great deal of recovery and improvement over time, and was trained in piloting mobile suits. His recovery and healing over the mental and emotional scars was enough that he returned to the front lines in time for the Delaz Fleets' 'Operation Stardust' and was involved in the action, distinguishing himself by taking control of cut-off or disorganized mobile suits during the battle in Earth orbit, and leading them in successful action against the elements of the fleet. Matt's career was average during the battle against Axis and the Titans. He served admirably and earned a reputation as a competant, confident and precise mobile suit pilot, and this trend continued during the first Neo Zeon war. Matt was seconded to Taskforce Alpha against the New Decides for most of the conflict, and was later involved in numerous actions during the conflict. Following this, he was reassigned as an operational test and evaluation pilot, and began a fast-paced but exciting relationship with the chief mechanical engineer for the project he was assigned to.
It was during the operational test and evaluation of a new model of mobile suit that he monitored a strange signal. Breaking off of the test routine to investigate was the last memory he had.

Just a bump to keep interest going. Have been putting some lore and background together for this. Hopefully there might be some more interest, but even if there isn't, I'll run it as a small game with just the three of us. It'll still work well enough.
So, I have a question: If the suit/s we're interested in are ground types, can we assume they've been modified for space use, or do we just need to pick something else?
All looks great so far, I'm keen to get involved. I'll have a think and get some ideas together for a character. I won't be playing a canon character, I find it pretty difficult to do them justice. I might go with a grunt suit upgraded to a high-end variant over time; I'll have a think and if I need to air some ideas I'll post in here. Thanks for having me so far.
