Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.
Looks like we're not getting any other characters, which is a shame. Since it's only the two of us, I'm not sure if it's worth continuing as a 1x1 if that's something you're interested in, or putting it on ice and trying again later. I'll bump the Int Check to see if I can shake out any more players.
Cat listened patiently and with interest, taking in what Anna had to say with personal interest. She could tell this was a rare moment for the jaguar to open up, and treated it as such without interrupting. She gave a smile as the smaller, slimmer woman touched on her friendship with Max, much as she had done with her own with Silver, and nodded in understanding. As she answered her remark, she chuckled and turned back to her own pebble as Anna did the same.

It was hours later when the transport prepared for landing, the announcement coming from the loadmaster. Once again, they strapped in as the pitch of the engines changed and the aircraft rumbled as its' landing gear extended. Noises issued from all around as the aircraft dropped through the air in a graceful, controlled descent into thicker air and toward the ground, and as the big, sleek stealth transport kissed the runway, the noise was too intense for conversation. It died down soon after as the plane turned off the runway and moved to a parking position, the noise dying down to a shrill scream of idling powerplants, and the loadmaster checked them off to disembark, the ramp cracking open and lowering with a grinding whine of hydralics and opening to a fresh breeze tinged with the scents of hot metal and burnt fuel from the airbase outside. "Welcome to Faeranel, boys and girls," Silverwind said as he stood and shrugged his pack onto his shoulders. "The tech support team will take care of off-loading out GEARs and fitting them out for the mission. We have about-" he checked his pebble, which had automatically synced up to local time "-Four hours before nightfall, and another two before we launch. Enough time for us all to get adjusted. Yer all free to go take in the local sights, whatever they may be, as long as we're back here in time fer final briefin' and last checks one hour before take off. No drinkin' this time, I'm afraid; save that fer afterwards. But get some chow somewhere that ain't a mess hall, but yerselves some souveneirs, and stretch yer legs after bein' cooped up in this tin can for the last while". He nodded to them all and headed down the ramp into the brightness of the early afternoon sunshine.
Matt had moved his mobile suit closer, getting within visual distance of the other mobile suits. As he'd kept watch on his sensors, closing the distance, he'd been alarmed to see another machine take the field. All of them had converged though there seemed to be no shooting going on. And there was a ship, too! The closer he got, the more details he could make out. And to his eye, the suits looked... familiar. Not ones he recognised completely, but they had a certain Gundam-ness to them, but of no make nor model he recognised. And similarly, the ship reminded him of the Pegasus-class carriers from the One-Year War and after, but it was larger, sleeker, and looked more advanced. None of the mobile suits or the ship were transmitting any kind of IFF that he recognised either. He drew himself to a stop within range of his weapons, but not so close that he couldn't move away should things go south; despite the fact they outnumbered him, and looked all-too well-armed. Radio chatter flew back and forth - and, surprisingly to him, there seemed to be no Minovsky Particle interference at all. Rolling the dice, he broadcast on an open frequency after listening for a few moments. "Attention unidentified mobile suits," he said cautiously, but with a firm voice. "I am Major Matthew Fox of the Earth Federation Forces. I mean no harm or ill intent. Can you identify yourselves, or this place?"
Cat had been tapping through tabs on her pebble, absorbed in catching up on correspondence with family and friends and news from the greater world outside of the bubble of special operations life when Anna approached. As the dark-furred feline spoke, she shut the device down and listened up as the normally taciturn jaguar awkwardly got her words out. She listened attentively, long bovine ears twitching toward Anna as she spoke, and when the smaller woman offered out a paw, she gently took it in both of her own huge hands and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "Oh lass," she said warmly and with a soft smile on her angular muzzle. "We all end up in shite stupid situations because of what we do". She shook her head and looked away, past the walls of the transports cavernous bay for a moment. "If I had of died, then I'd have rather it been fer someone else an' because it was doin' something I gave a shite about, than at home in bed too old to remember what I had fer breakfast". She looked back to the Jaguar, lookin into her eyes and the smile still on her muzzle. "This life we chose, runnin' around the world and sneakin' about to make sure other people are safe in bed at night. It's no a friendly one, nor one where we get tae make many friends. But the ones we do have are each other". She looked over at the pair of men, both sound asleep. Silverwind's usually dignified demeanour was betrayed by his sleep; head lolled back and muzzle wide open with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. She smirked at the sight and grinned at the pair of them. "Those two are probbly too proud tae say much about it, but I'd consider them me friends too, and I know Silver would drag his balls across hot coals fer any of us." She shook her head. "I don't mean to make it sound less than it was, but doing what I did for you, I just see that as what's the right thing to do" she gave a simple shrug of her huge shoulders. "And fer the record, it's worth a lot," she answered, in response to her comment about the pebble, before giving a slight smirk. "Though, you might want tae reconsider once I start callin' ye at three in the mornin' drunk and cryin' down the line at yeh because I cannae find mah own hooves".
There absolutely is a Viggen on offer - I've always been a fan of it myself, and I had to include it. I almost included the Draken as well, and only didn't at the last minute.
You're very welcome to join, and custom colour schemes are very much encouraged. And I'm sure your writing will be more than fine :)
Personality: Cocky, but professional, Scott is the quintessential fighter pilot. He walks the walk and talks the talk. He is confident and self-assured in his skills, but when the sticky stuff hits the fan, the swagger and breezy humour disappear and he becomes all business. He has steel behind the smile, and it shows in his eyes. His knack of dealing with people and being able to put down the law when needed has given him a good rep - despite some incidents in his career and personal life where things have gotten a little over the line - mainly because he is willing to stick his neck out for other people, especially those under his command, or who are being harassed or hounded by others. He does his best to be likable and build camaraderie and a good relationship with people around him, and tries to see the best of others, regardless of their outlook on him. Generally thinks the best of people, and gives them the benefit of the doubt - but can be vicious and unrelenting when his trust is betrayed, or he sees others abusing their power, privilege, or ability to hurt those with none of their own.
Personal History: Served during the wars prior to the Cataclysm as a USMC pilot. He has been an AV-8B Harrier II pilot throughout his career. As such, the majority of his action has been in support of Marine ground operations, consisting of close air support strikes, interdiction strikes, reconnaissance, tactical strikes of enemy assets or positions, and attacks on hostile surface targets, as well as escort of allied helicopters. Military service was a case of striking out to find his own way and independence, in an effort to get away from a boring and quiet childhood and home town. Left behind a younger sister - by a couple of years - whom he cares for greatly. She also left home behind, but to pursue a career as a medical aid worker and doctor. His parents died in the cataclysm, something he regrets greatly, despite knowing he could not have really helped them. Scott's career has been especially varied. As mentioned, flying the Harrier II has put him in harm's way for a variety of operations, especially during the cataclysm and he has seen combat of many and varied kinds, including air-to-air combat against hostile forces. He has scored victories in these engagements, notable for a Harrier pilot, and something not often seen since the British and the Falklands War. As a result of his career and record, he was noted for promotion to squadron leader. With the creation of the unified forces structure, he was instead reassigned as the leader of the new Shadow Flight, due to his experiences fighting around the world against Elysium's earliest attacks.
Aircraft:
The Harrier III is the ultimate - and some would say final - evolution of the Harrier airframe, a design that originated in the 1960's in England, and resulted in the most successful and versatile STOVL aircraft design so far. The Harrier III maintains the basic shape and form of the Harrier's classic design, and still features a version of the Pegasus engine as its' core. However, the Harrier III is a new-build design that incorporates modern avionics and electronics, as well as modern construction materials and techniques, bringing the design up to 21st century standards and knowledge of aviation design, as well as incorporating several features considered in earlier design studies or projects for 'advanced' Harrier versions. Composite materials are used for lighter weight throughout the aircraft and its' engine. Advanced fly-by-wire controls are used throughout, along with a fully digital glass cockpit with touch-screen interfaces. A helmet-mounted targeting system is used, and the radar has been upgraded to an AESA radar, along with other sensor updates, and the 'big wing' including additional wingtip hardpoints for light anti-air missiles. The airframe has received minor tweaks and revamps all over akin to the 'Super Hornet' version of the F/A-18, incorporating edge-aligned hatches, panels, and doors wherever possible to reduce the planes' radar signature. With the Pegasus Engines' turbine face this does not have a huge reduction in signature, but is nonetheless an added bonus, along with the incorporation of other radar-reducing measures. The avionics updates have also allowed the Harrier III to be compatible with all NATO weapon systems.
The world has changed. After the wars, after the cataclysm that fell from the skies, humanity rebuilt from the ashes on the face of an Earth that had changed. New countries, new societies, and new alliances have taken hold. But threats are still out there; a breakaway faction has their own plans for the restructuring and rebuilding of society - and are poised to take violent control, using new technologies and new, radical ideas to threaten the new, young cities and countries as they grow. Society teeters on a knife-edge, and it is only through the efforts of Shadow Flight, an elite team of aerial aces, picked from the ranks of the world's air forces, that they can be held back. Whatever their plans are, they must be uncovered before everything is returned to fire and ash once more. The battle for the future of Earth will be in the skies above it, where shadows of steel are gathering...
Shadows of Steel is an RPG based on the likes of Ace Combat, Area 88, HAWX and other aerial fight anime, games, movies and works. It has some emphasis on realism, but more on world-trotting adventures in the skies, with some sci-fi elements of superweapons, advanced technologies, and dramatic, large-than-life heroics, drama, and high-stakes action.
Players take the role of pilots in the elite special operations group 'Shadow Flight' in the post-apocalyptic world of an Earth shattered by a global war and an impact event. The plot is designed to evolve and expand as more missions are completed, and the stakes and danger will raise as things progress. Characters will need to rely on one another, as well a their aircraft, to get them through the dangers, and unravel the plot the mysterious and deadly 'Think Tank' have arrayed against them, and against the world.
A full range of lore and background information can be found in a Microsoft One Note document here
Any questions of course, please do ask and I will do my best to answer. While an encyclopedic knowledge of modern aircraft combat is not needed, having at least some familiarity with and interest in military life, and also combat aircraft would be very helpful. A willingness to learn and understand is also equally needed. All characters are required to be Shadow Flight pilots, no support personnel or non-pilot characters will be allowed, and no enemy characters will be allowed either.
Don't be a dick to each other
Observe all rules of the Guild
Play in the spirit of the game
Don't be a know it all
The GM's word is final - although, I am open to discussion
If the GM doesn't know about it, it doesn't exist - which goes for character backgrounds, information about the setting, or anything else.
If you're not sure - ask
You are welcome to play a character with any kind of personality you like - but remember, if you play an asshole or a loner and no-one speaks to you or takes an interest - you chose that character to play.
If you're interested enough to join in and submit a character in the first place, then I expect you to be interested enough to check the site and reply. It is not my job to chase you for posts, or remind you to make them.
When posting your character sheet, please post it in the OOC first, and wait for approval before posting into the Characters tab.
Name: Age:No younger than 20; it's hard to believe in an 18 year old ace Gender: Nationality: Appearance:Anime pictures or art are both fine. Written descriptions also fine. Personality:A few short lines summing up their demeanour and outlook. Personal History:Does not need to be extensive, just a little about how they got to where they are, any important events or people. Remember to include anything you want to come up in the RP. If you want things to be secret from other players, then please at least message the GM with those secret parts - otherwise, how else will they come up? Aircraft:See the aircraft list in the document linked in the OP post. You will have chances to upgrade later. Personal Weapons & Equipment:Shadow Flight personnel may be required to fight on the ground sometimes, though you're not intended to be one-man armies or Super-duper special forces operators, so keep it modest.
