Cat looked at Donny with a slightly raised eyebrow until he pulled off the improvised lockpick. Well normally one would call it improvised, but this was the post apocalypse, pretty much everything was improvised or salvaged. True new tech or gear was rarely made, mostly because the facilities required to do so were hard to find. Even setting up a smithy was very hard because of avaible resources being sparce, unless you worked with specific types. Luckily electrical grindstones weren't that rare because electricity was something a number of settlements had.

"Luckily for us then that I'm actually somewhat decent at this... Not the first time I've picked a lock." She replied flatly and took the offered tools, setting a knee in front of the door so the lock was at eye level and then very carefully and methodically got to work, being very careful to listen to the sounds it made as she moved it about extremely carefully, not wanting to risk it snapping and leaving them without the hook and the loot. As for her experience, well she had to sneak off to be able to get her smuggled goods to her safehouse/hiding place. It also helped that she had a lot easier time at hearing what happened inside the locks. Now it was all to skill, patience and luck.

"Let's see... quiet now..."She mumbled, narrowing her eyes and focusing on the sensations from the lock. Both touch and sound were important here.

The trial continued on with the rest of the events that transpired into quarantine and eventually proceeded to the ones past. She noted that Nikki was asked why she had kissed Hunter and Amelia didn’t really think that was a question that needed to be asked in such a public place and event. The answer wasn’t too unusual all things considered and the girl was soon told she could step down. The one who came up afterwards was Gunny.

What led to the charges it seemed was a rather big case of problems that hunters had piled on himself. His attitude by the sound of it really needed work, now Amelia was self aware enough that if they had separated her from Riley, she’d likely have gone unhinged and unstable as well, but his attitude even before they took the hellhound, beast, creature of terror from him also needed a lot of work. She also recalled their party night after the end of quarantine and well the drunken stupor he drank himself into.

Following that was the most unexpected turn of events that Amelia could have imagined. They brought out a video recording, so they had them under observation via hidden camera there. Made her think of there was a hidden camera at Supply. Well it would make sense to have the workplaces monitored or at least ones of greater importance. She didn’t actually mind that too much, it meant more security overall and made her feel safer. The things she heard and saw however made her look to the side and close her eyes, muttering underneath her breath, seeking Riley’s arm for comfort. He was uncomfortable to listen to even though she didn’t really wish him harm. Amelia was pretty certain they weren’t ever going to be getting alone even if they had a chance of interacting more. Every word he spoke, made her want to either hit him or just ignore him.

As finally hunter was called to testify for himself, she knew that it likely wasn’t good. Even now his way of speaking rubbed her the wrong way. She squeezed Riley’s hand tightly. She hoped that she’d be better if she was in his shoes. If nothing else she wouldn’t have antagonized anybody and she tried to always be on point with her tasks. Now all that was left to see was his own words to the questioning her approved of and the result of the trial. She didn’t wish him harm, but honestly didn’t expect them to let him stay, at least not without heavy restrictions.

Lisa gave a silent nod of greeting and acknowledgement to Mary when she arrived in the room. It wasn’t the best of scenarios, but she continued to quietly retell the story as a barely a whisper, waiting for the team that would bring Lucy away from here to arrive. Minutes stretched, time seemed to collapse on itself or mayhaps stretch to eternity? She was used to death by now, pretty much everybody was if they had survived to this point, but a situation like this still hit you even if you could just bash somebody’s skull in for survival. This wasn’t a struggle for dear life with walkers all around, nor was it a bandit raid or other undesirables. It was a little girl who only wished for better life and dreamed of magic and the fantastical stories. Lisa fell silent and caressed the picture the girl drew for her with the tip of her fingers as if she might damage it otherwise.

β€œI will, thank you, Mary.” Lisa replied, standing up from her seat as the other woman pulled the table away, causing the crayon to fall. Her eyes locked onto it like a hawk. Right away she leaned down and picked it up, carefully placing it with the others, quickly lining them up on the table and giving a nod to the other people in the room. She walked to the door, still holding in her arms the picture that was named for her and looked a final time at Lucy.” Goodbye.” She muttered and with a frail smile left the room. Lisa knew that Lucy’s body was in capable hands now. They will do right by her.

She walked out of the hospital, noting the rain had stopped. How time flied when she was telling that story. A sad smile graced her lips again and she shook her head, heading towards her apartment. Nikki was likely still at Court, so she’d be alone and that served her for the time being. She walked down the street, without hurrying too much and was thinking about many different things. It was bound to happen sooner and later and it at least saved the girl a lot of suffering she’d have in the future and Lisa was grateful she was there! Lucy wasn’t alone when it happened and she was spending the last moments with a happy memory. That was the most important thing one could want, to not be alone when the time comes. Her sad smile was also a happy smile, a contradiction she didn’t care to think about.

Walking up the stairs and eventually to her door, she barely realized when she had walked the entire distance from Medical to the General Housing without realizing when she had crossed the distance. She opened the door and entered, walking to her bed and placing the picture on the nightstand by it and then sat down, tossing a look at the papers she was preparing for her proposal for the engineering/trap competition. She thought for a moment and grabbed a few empty sheets( She needed to get a notebook later ) and after a moment started writing.

β€˜Prince Ivan and Vasilisa the Wise...’ With the title written, she began writing down the story just as she had retold it to Lucy. It had given her a bit of a perspective today. She wasn’t the best writer, but she didn’t have to think the stories from scratch. She just had to write what she remembered and she knew quite a few, not the entire several hundred pages worth of stories she had as a child on that specific book, but she remembered more than a few. Lisa now decided to transcribe as many as she could. She’d still arrange the competition, but this came as a bit of a priority for the moment. Fairy tales were important, doubly so in a world like this. She glanced at the drawing of flowers on her nightstand.’ Yes… now where was I? Ahh yes, they drew their heavy bows...’ She thought and returned to writing. Later she was going to try to use contribution points to get a notebook to write into instead.
"I know, but admittedly we could have done without the good eating, but with the bullets we had to spend to deal with this." She replied, giving him a mildly angry look." Crabs aren't creatures of cold even the mutant ones. Had you not fired the damn gun, it wouldn't have woken up for anything less than stepping on top of it." She sighed and removed her rifle's magazine, reloading the spend bullets with what she had left. Leaving the gun half loaded was even worse. One never knew when they'd need the bullets. With that she swung it back to her back on the strap and walked over to where she dropped her shotgun axe, picking it up, cracking it open, replacing the shells and putting away the spent ones in one of her small belt bags. They could reload those later. She also collected her 5.56 casings, recycling was the name of the game after all.

"Now be careful and follow my lead for real this time." She told him as htey headed underground. Similarly to her nickname's sake her eyes quickly adapted back to the darkness of the underground, perhaps it helped that she spend a lot of time in the darkness to begin with due to her training and duties, then there was the fact that it was her preferred territory. She didn't like the surface too much. It was too cold, the snow was getting into very unpleasant places( like seriously, how on earth did it get into her bra or pants?) Luckily she wore mostly water resistant or proof outer clothing, but it didn't help with her feeling it earlier when they were on the surface. Having snow melting on your skin wasn't pleasant in the sub zero temperatures. At least her boots were good and her feet weren't wet." Maybe we can scramble up an improvised handcranked one later... Now shhh... there's a maintenance closet..." She pointed it out to him in the darkness." Doesn't seem to have been opened, but you cannot be too certain. I check it out and need you to be ready to shoot anything that might come out of it and just generally keep an eye out." She told him and carefully got closer to the door to inspect it and attempt to get it open. If it was left untouched for whatever reason, it would be a great boon, the fact it was untouched however was concerning, so she made sure to be at full attention.
*Since a gilded coin wasn't enough, adds some sparkly crystals*
Cat didn't even bother try to reload the shotgun. It was goign to be pointless loss of time since it was a double barrel, she had to snap it open, take out shells, insert new ones, close it and then fire. Too short time to do all that even for her. So as the beast's leg was blown off and Donny went onto the attack and then stagger the thing, opening it for her to hopefully finish it, Cat dropped the axe and grabbed her rifle that she kept on her carrying strap, it took a very simple movement to pull it to bare and then aim it. It was a semi automatic rifle, currently loaded with a number of 5.56 bullets, she dashed forwards to get a good view point to shoot it in the head, jumping over a husk of a car getting a good angle.

She aimed and fired from this close and into the unprotected head and body of the crustation, it shouldn't take too much hits to bring it down, she suspected. She fired one at it's head, then another and another. Methodically and steadily she delivered shot after shot with trained precision. She was a soldier, trained since early childhood to do this and she excelled at it, her incredible senses helping with the act. This was actually a good thing too, if they managed to kill this, they could quickly snap some chunks of the underside and continue down to the tunnels with the pieces of meat. Crab was actually rather tasty treat.
Everything was going swimmingly while they were traversing the parking lot. She kept her shotgun axe at a high stance, ready to intercept airborn targets, but sadly everything was brought to a rather unpleasant situation when one tried to drop on Donny from presumably the ceiling instead of jumping at him. Luckily his helmet was gonna help while in her case she would have just torn the thing off her head before it could do any substantial damage, he instead shot it. The loud bang echoed in the building even through the howling of hte storm outside and it's winds that were entering through the meriad of openings in the building's shell. Moment's later something burst upwards from the ground and since she was a few steps ahead of Donny, it put it's between the two of them. It was a fucking crab... In that one moment, she cursed Donny in 12 different ways as she turned around and readied for battle.

There were a few ways to deal with the situation. One was to take the charge of the Crab Brute and counter at the moment before it attacks when it raises it's torso and reveals the vulnerable head. Problem was, she was behind it and it was charging somebody else. The other alternative was...

She ran at it from behind, going to it's right side, aiming her shotgun at it. She was close enough for even the slightly warped barrel of the shotgun to shoot right. She aimed at the back right leg. It was a four legged creature, should they cripple even one of those, it's ability to move would be more than halved hell it might not even be able to move at a quarter of it's usual speed depending. She aimed and pulled the first trigger as the shot rang, she maintained expert grip and negated the recoil fast as she reaimed and shot the second shot at the same joint she had shot with the first one. The leg chitin was thinner and the joint especially so. So if she was lucky the hsot should damage the flesh underneath it and maybe even cripple the leg. If not and it continued to charge forward to Donny, she was going to whack it with the axe and sever it for good now that she damaged the chitin.
*drops a shiny gilded coin in the middle of the snare trap*
was gona post earlier, but it was D&D afternoon and all that.
"That they are, don't fire a gun if you could help it..." She nodded in return to him and readied her axe as htey moved onwards. Inside the building, she could hear the rest of the headcrabs around. There were quite a lot of them all around, frankly the staggering considering hte location and she wondered how they maintianed such numbers without a steady supply of food. Yeah ecosystem with these mutant creatures was very weird. She turned to him, placing a finger on her lips to indicate to be very very quiet and indicated the sourndings with it and afterwards she pointed upwards to the concentration of them. Hopefully he got the message that there was a number around them and a lot more up above them.

She waved to get his attention and jestured towards the rank staircase. It was the best way downwards, dropping through the emergency hatch was a way to cause even more noise because well, they'd have to drop and the landing would make noise and waht's more leave htem momentary open for attacks.

She readied her axe well in hand, ready to bat any of the headcrabs off as soon as they jump at her or Donny and she took point because her senses were better, she was used to it. Back in the settlement she usually acted as the scout anyways. She could detect danger before it appeared and act on it. Thus she headed for the stairway.
