Astor Daybreak did not always use the Daybreak name, in fact he used to only be known as Astor, the street urchin. The young boy grew up in a poor part of Crocus City as an orphan, and like other unfortunates before him, had resorted to stealing to get by. From the youngest age he would steal in more brazen manners, but as he grew older, his hands became much more deft and his tongue sharper, becoming a somewhat successful pickpocket. As a result he was also not unfamiliar with being locked up on misdemeanors from time to time, or even being caught with a hot item on him.
However one event would change the course of his life forever, as he would tail a somewhat suspicious mark. Little did he know, they on them had a rather rare dragon lacrima, something that would sell for an immense fortune, but what he didn't know was that this nervous individual was also being hunted for it. It appears a minor mafia group had obtained it, the minor leader of which was hoping to use it and attain power. Once he got his chance he lifted from the individual in a passing exchange. Subsequently they were captured, the lacrima having been lifted from them without them knowing.
For about a day or two, he would go around town asking about what the item was, hoping to sell it off, and word of these actions caught the attention of that mafia who were now searching for it, realizing the man they caught no longer had it. Before his meeting with them though, a detective by the name of Lockeshire Daybreak had found him and immediately deduced that he had stolen it. It was an uncannily accurate deduction, this man who he had never seen before seemed to piece everything together from just a glance.
Regardless of that, Astor would find himself running away, as per his instincts as a pickpocket. This would of course lead to him being captured by the mafia. They would lock him up and then try and wring the lacrima out of him, and during that, he would have hidden it in his mouth. After some rough-housing, he would by accident, find himself swallowing it. It was suffice to say, an unusual situation, but fortunately he would not have to be under duress for much longer. Thanks to the efforts of the aforementioned detective, the authorities would storm the scene and arrest it's members.
Naturally, given what he had done, Astor would find himself also being detained. After the story was shared with all investigators and authorities, there was an attempt to extract the lacrima from within him, though it was to no avail. The attempt however would immediately be followed with what Astor can only describe as agony so great he wished to die in the midst of it. The Lacrima having begun to integrate itself into him and now impossible to retrieve, was now fully becoming a part of him, as his entire body was essentially remade into that of a Dragon Slayer, the process during which he was attended to by doctors and nurses to ensure he lived through the ordeal, as he was young, and it was unknown if he had the fortitude or constitution to weather it. Fortunately though, after almost several hours, he survived, and then subsequently went to sleep for three whole days. Lockeshire who was wholly on the investigation of this stolen Lacrima, which was supposed to be on display for rare items relating to Lost Magic in a museum, explained it to the young boy. He was now a Dragon Slayer.
And had a hefty debt to pay, now that he had ingested it. Being a street urchin there was no way he could have paid it as-is, but the detective would offer Astor to work for him as an assistant. There wasn't much recourse, but he accepted, and so for the next few years he would balance his assistant work in office and on the field, and being able to control and use his newfound magic.
Lockeshire Daybreak was a member of Sapphire Hornet at this time and so it came to be that the young Astor would become acquainted with them. He learned the systems of which that he carried out his investigations, the people he referred to for certain things such as forensics, profiling, connections for information, and even the museum the lacrima was meant to be obtained for had an expert in artifacts. Lockeshire Daybreak while a mage, was by far among the weakest for fighting, but he had a great network of associates for which to carry out his jobs. It was only recently with the addition of Astor, a young Dragon Slayer, that he would find himself more capable of tackling cases with more confrontation, as Astor being a Dragon Slayer now, was suited for such adventures.
Though a novice, these encounters would help him refine his technique and spells, as well as explore his magic's limitations and what it can or can't do. There were times where it would be rather trying, and times where he came through in the end. Naturally under these circumstances his admission to Sapphire Hornet was all but decided, and for at least several years under the Daybreak Detection Agency, and becoming a sort of foster son to the famous detective mage, it was rather peaceful, solving mysteries, and at times coming to blows with dark guilds.
It is however to be noted that despite his low level of combat prowess, the famous detective was sent to investigate rather dangerous cases, and one of which would ultimately claim his life. The investigation had unearthed an attack by Hydra Tongue that would transpire and change the fates of both Sapphire Hornets and Falcon Flight forever, and before he could return and report the results of his investigation, he was hunted down and killed as one of the first deaths, and his body found mere days later. As such, his report which could have warned Falcon Flight of the attack, was never relayed.
In the ensuing months, Astor would find himself in a hurricane of changes, inheriting the Daybreak Agency's headquarters/office which had been and still is his home today, mourning the loss of his foster father, the attack on Falcon Flight, the Sapphire Hornet counter-attack which he had participated in, and in the months afterward, finding himself a member of a newly formed combined guild from the remnants of both.
Today, he continues the operations of the Daybreak Detective Agency as an affiliate and member of Sapphire Falcon. He participates most actively in investigations, particularly in cases involving dark guilds, hoping to find the one who killed Lockeshire, but also to ensure that others might not meet the same fate at their hands, or experience what he has.
