Segment 3

Following the brutal Gethin squash, the crowd were clamoring for another match; for more violence, but suddenly the lights went out, as did the titantron. The entire arena was in complete, sudden, unexplained darkness. As far as the crown knew, it could be a powercut. After a few very tense seconds, the titantron showed a flickering lightbulb, followed by a longer spell of silence and darkness, but now the crowd were reassured that this was deliberate.

Then, the familiar music of a music box started playing, and suddenly the whole arena started to cheer. They knew what this meant. They knew what was back. Another image started to show on the titantron, and they quickly quietened down and started to pay attention.

The video on screen was CCTV footage of a bandaged man in a hospital. It cut away to a shaky cam showing the 'Burns Ward' sign. It went dark again, but still, the unsettling music played. The titantron flared back to life, this time showing still pictures of nurses unravelling the man's bandages. In each of the pictures, the nurses faces were harshly scored out with a pencil. The last picture passes by very quickly but still slow enough to everyone to have registered it. It was the bandaged man grabbing a nurse's throat. In this one her face hadn't been scored out, and was a contorted, sickening scream of shock and pain.

The series of pictures then moved onto another CCTV video. This time it was a fisheye camera recording a padded cell. A figure in a straightjacket was sitting down, facing away from the camera. This footage must have played with no changed for a solid thirty seconds, before a roll of static went down the screen, and suddenly the figure was right in front of the camera, staring up at it. Many of the audience jumped. There were a few more cheers now, as the face that could now be seen was definitely Hector. The cheers were definitely lost in the overpowering silence of the majority of the crowd.

Suddenly, a grainy, black and white cartoon started to play. It was just cutesy 1930's style animals walking around a village and talking, but with the music, and in context of what they saw before, it was really creepy. Slowly, it would dawn on the crowd that the buildings in the background were melting. Then the sun and clouds started melting. Then, as the characters themselves started to melt, still with smiles on their faces, the music started playing backwards.

The cartoon burned away in a fire, the vivid color and realism of the flames bringing the crowd back from the cartoon. Now, on the Titantron, in his old gear and mask, was Hector, though his green and white ring gear was charred as if burned, and his mask, before a creepy, blank smiling mascot head, was now slightly melted into something even creepier than before. He appeared to be standing besides a chain-link fence, and it was night-time. He leaned into the camera, and spoke, in a menacingly jovial tone; "I can't wait to play more games with you all!"

The Titantron went off. The lights came back on, and there were some cheers of excitement, but it wasn't deafening. Many of the crowd was still shocked to silence. Everybody, however, was of the same opinion; What they had just watched was amazing.
Lol Heidi's gauntlet was supposed to be inspired by the iron man suit, but now, what if it's the other way round?
@Pyroman

Heidi was still a bit angry, but Tony had just made a good point. She leaned in after Doug had finished speaking. "Wait, help people? What do you mean, help people? What could I do differently to training to be an X-Man?" Heidi had more questions she wanted to ask Tony, about such things as the nature of the 'bad memories', though that might be a topic best left alone.

After about a minute, by which time, nobody in the class had even close to caught up with Heidi's progress, the teacher had asked another question. She resisted the temptation to answer it. She really hated doing something that even might be thought of as showing off, but she knew that nobody else in this class was going to answer it either, so she muttered the answer loud enough for Doug to hear, in fluent Chinese;

"Korean has similarities to Japanese and Turkish in regards to syntax, but unlike either, has it's own, unique alphabet not shared with any other country. Each Korean character is one syllable made up of three letters."

Doug was the only other one in the classroom to know what she just said, and for the first time for as long as she could remember, that made her feel a little proud. She didn't even know why that was different to the other times. Was it the fact that nobody knew what she'd said? Had Tony's words or attitude affected her subconsciously? She couldn't say.
@pyroman

Heidi looked a bit surprised as she heard the greeting. So, they were going to be learning Korean next. That was an interesting choice, to say the least. She picked up the starter book on Korean, and started to flick through it. Doug was making some good points. Being able to speak the language of a country you were on a mission for was a very useful thing.

She stopped reading. She had already gotten through half the book and had been silent for five minutes. She hadn't missed anything, and if anything had been expected of her, she would have noticed, but even so, this was hardly 'engaging with the class', though she didn't like doing that either. Still, Tony's question irked her a little bit, and she decided to act on this for once. She turned to him.

"Isn't learning the world's languages why we took this class?" she asked.
Posted. Thought I'd start it at night in the port town so we can do a little bit of character interaction before we set sail.

I've never GMed before so if anybody has any input ever, I'd love to hear it.
The ship set sail from Plymouth on a bright, cloudless August morning, in the year 1721. The crew were not told much about the purpose of the voyage other than it was to recover a hidden fortune left behind by a wealthy and deceased Privateer by the name of John Galloway. One thing the crew did not know was the true nature their Captain, who was ever confident, laughing heartily with his shipmates, but always refused to drink alcohol, saying it dulled the senses and that a good Captain always needed to be alert. Their Captain, who was rumoured to consult a map in their quarters that no other shipmate had ever laid eyes on but told of the location of the hidden fortune. Their Captain was a girl. John Galloway's daughter, in fact. Her name was Mary-Anne Galloway. Superstition prohibited women from travelling on ships. It was bad luck, so she disguised herself as a boy. She'd been around sailors all her life, and it was easy to fall into the mannerisms and the tone of voice needed for her crew to believe that she was not just a he, but a manly, seasoned salty sea-dog.

One day she brought the elusive map out in public, and claimed that they had arrived, though there was no landmarks or land of any kind in any direction. But she knew what she was doing. She had been taught how to read this map properly. You had to reach the edge of it, and then go just past that. Quickly, a storm began to pick up, and despite the preparations of the crew, it was too much for the ship to handle, and the storm got worse and worse, and thunder began to crackle from the sky, and the waves began to dwarf the ship, as if the world itself didn't want them to carry on their course.

When the survivors awoke next, they were on a beach, cold and sodden, washed ashore among bodies and splintered wood. The Captain was nowhere to be found, nor the map. As they'd venture further ashore, they'd find a town, harbouring many small boats that looked like nothing they'd ever seen before, and among them, one proper galleon, even more impressive than the one they'd sailed on. The hands at the docks would tell anybody who asked that the ship belongs to a mister James Roper, who could be found in the nearby tavern, and he's looking for a crew...

All the known survivors of the wreck signed up for Captain Roper's ship, as did several natives. At the en of the day, the complete crew assembled on the deck, and the roles were assigned for the loading of goods and preparation of the voyage. Among them were as followed; James Spencer to oversee the preparation of the sails and rigging, as this kind of ship isn't a style known to the natives. Jay and Cassidy, among others, to transport provisions to the cargo hold. Meryl to provide inventory. Mary-Anne and the Captain retired in private for much of the preparation, as they had matters to discuss.

Once these tasks were done, it was deemed to dark to set sail, so they would spend the evening in the port town, stay overnight, and set sail in the morning. James Roper finally emerged from the Captain's Quarters and called out, in a thick Yorkshire accent; "Anybody who wants to join me in the Tavern is welcome to! i'd like to get you know you all a little better!" which was met with cheers from a lot of the crew, quickly vacating the ship. Shortly after, Mary-Anne emerged, in a dress, though if any of her old crew lingered and stared too long at this woman who had demanded so much of their new Captain's attention, she might look familiar...
So, the applications have slowed. Who wants to go ahead and start? Or should I wait for some more?
