Short Bio: Life from the very beginning was a challenge for Barry. Barry was born to a father who abandoned him, and to a mother who cared more about the needle in her arm, than the child she was supposed to raise. On the surface, he was your textbook case of ‘ne’er do well’ that all parents tell their children to avoid. In reality, he was a kid with a good heart and a smart head on his shoulders, but born into a toxic environment. Barry knew the cards he’d been dealt and he’d be damned if he didn’t survive long enough to make something useful with his hand. If that meant getting into a fight to protect someone in a jam, or stealing food just so he wouldn't go hungry for another night, then that’s what he did.
When Barry came of age, he enlisted in the military and joined the combat engineers to further his education for life after. Barry felt like he’d finally dug himself out of his hole, but little did he realize the further challenges he’d face in the military. During his time enlisted, he served two tours in Afghanistan and a final tour in Iraq before being discharged. He’ll tell you that it’s because of the wounds he suffered, the long scar running down his face and neck are proof enough. Stare long enough and you’ll see the slight cloudiness in his eye, the subtle tilt of his head as he tries to listen to you, and the grim look of a man who’s lost more friends than he’d care to tell.
Barry had only served eight years, and felt it was too early for a retirement, opting to move somewhere small, remote and quiet. When the town of Sanctuary fell upon his ears, the irony wasn’t lost on him as he felt it would fit the bill. Packing up and moving out, he quickly established himself in the town as the kind of guy you could consistently and reliably get help from. Barry’s happy to help out the townsfolk whenever and he charged prices that he felt were fair and reasonable or offered favors/trades instead. When he’s not helping out at the town, he keeps to himself on his more reclusive homestead some twenty or so minutes outside of town.
Lately with the new influx of people and construction coming in, Barry’s been losing out on some of his clientele with larger contracting firms that can offer lower prices than he. Though this hasn’t soured his mood entirely, he is feeling the hit to his wallet and looks a little more tired than usual as he’s been keeping busier to compensate.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day out, the sun was shining, the fair was in full swing already, and unlike most other students, it was Kanan’s first day back. His arrival was fully planned and approved by the faculty ahead of time, but Kanan had made it a point that he wasn’t going to miss his son’s first day of school and that was all the convincing they needed. He still kept up with the courses ahead of time online, emailing professors and printing his curriculum. Even though he wanted to dedicate more time with Julian he did need to go back before the end of orientation period. Still he was glad to have stayed while he could, at least long enough to watch his niño meet up with friends and enter school for the first time that year; he couldn’t be more proud.
Still, life moved on and Los Santos was back on the scene, duffle bag with his overnight back in one arm, school bag slung over his other shoulder. Deftly he maneuvered the crowds of excitable and anxious freshmen, bypassing around the quad to get the Campus Castle, both his home and office. As Kanan entered the building, he reflected on how he ended up in his position, the weight of his mantle as captain, finally beginning to take hold.
Kanan Santos, former gang member turned hero, at least that’s how the papers rolled out the headlines. He was so excited by the opportunity, that he was blinded to how he was being used as a living publicity stunt. Even after angrily bringing it to the school’s administration, he was made very quickly aware of how little power he had here and how quickly he could lose his son. So he played along for the most part, did what the school asked of him and became a warden, knowing that one day he’d have to lead the wardens himself. He loathed that day when he was a freshman, feeling like a used tool and pawn back then, but now, he relished the challenge. Even though the reasons for bringing Kanan to Crystal Peak may have been wrong, he was given an opportunity nonetheless, an opportunity that his previous head warden, Leon, would not let him squander.
So here he stands, in front of ‘his’ room, well his room plus one. Kanan knew he'd be dealing with a babysitting job in addition to his other duties. He already felt bad enough for what Leon had to deal with the previous year, the insufferable attitude of Sylvia Vargas; Leon had simply wished him luck. Still, watching over one bratty girl was going to pay for both his and Julian’s college tuition, definitely an appropriate take and give situation. Still he was already beginning to wonder if he was going to hate this deal with the devil as the muffled rock music suddenly erupted into a cacophony of blasting amps and clashing cymbals.
“Oh you got me fucked up!” In an abrupt crash, bags were dropped in the hallway as Kanan entered the room and made a beeline for the source of the noise, “Yo! Vargas!” Both fortunately and yet, weirdly, she was not at the source, nor was she anywhere in the apartment as Kanan put a silence to her music. Well that was good that he wouldn’t have to immediately deal with her shrill voice, yet that presented the other headache that she wasn’t here. He rubbed his temples, “One step at a time, Santos…” First things first were to at least get his bags into his bedroom, and they quickly joined the pile of other unpacked bags and boxes that had been delivered earlier that week. Second order of business was to let the other Wardens that he was back in the area, his fingers already gliding over his phone keys.
To: Wardens “Back on campus, need to go over a quick brief on tonight’s Elysium party, meet up at Castle at 5:00. Also if anyone has eyes on the Vargas girl give me a head’s up.” @smarty0114@Melo@Hey Im Jordan
As Kanan finished his text he swiped over from the Messenger to Supergram and viewed the saved gif that displayed a party invite in flashy bold letters. As good as the intentions to have a party for both schools to attend were, he could easily see things going down the drain very quickly. Better to have a few Wardens on site to ensure the peace and maybe get a vibe check on the new guests of honor. Having done the Warden gig for 3 years now you get a feel for the people in your school and usually only have to deal with the freshies that come in. Now, we were talking an extra few hundred students on top of the usual suspects. Whether Kanan liked it or not, the Wardens were going to have their hands full this year and unless they have more recruits join, that wouldn’t likely change. Still it couldn’t hurt to ask for some outside help and with that decided, he went back to his messenger.
To: DDay “I’m back in town Devil Dog, let me know if you’re going to that party tonight, I could use your help with some freelance work.” @LovelyComplex
Kanan pocketed his phone, ready to exit the building before a rather devious thought crossed his mind. For all intents and purposes Kanan’s job was to bodyguard Sylvia and her parents made that very clear to him. Now he could argue that videogames rotted the brain and that the brain was a part of the body that needed protecting. However, Kanan applying a parental blocker on her computer was purely spiteful. Leon told him the horror stories from the previous year and whether either of them liked it or not they were going to be stuck with each other. Still, that didn’t mean that Kanan couldn’t make it slightly more tolerable and it might actually teach the brat to not leave her computer open and logged in.
His work complete, Kanan resumed the music, each repeating track an impending, ticking countdown until that 1 hour was up and the computer would be inaccessible until the following day. Did he feel a little guilty? Sure, but if she really needed to use a computer, there was always the campus library. Now for the real challenge, to find the missing princess.

Currently Kanan has a rather complicated relationship with Sylvia Vargas. Complicated in that they're roommates, but he's also supposed to be her bodyguard and caretaker, a responsibility specifically for the head warden.
From what Kanan can remember, more than half of his life was spent on the streets of San Antonio, running around and getting into trouble with his brother Joshua. It wasn’t long until others started following the two and they had formed ‘The Sons of Dorado’, a gang that dealt in narcotics, racketeering and gun violence. The two of them ruled the streets and having powers only made it easier to maintain control of the area; together they were unstoppable.
It wasn’t until he was in his mid teens that he knocked a girl up and left him with the baby that he started opening his eyes to the world around him. People were hurting, families were being torn apart and his son was even a product of a mother who abused the narcotics that his own gang dealt. The child was strong and he would live, but the boy was slowly turning into a man and it wasn’t until his brother began to talk of expanding the territory that Kanan made a decision to leave.
The road to get out was long and arduous, and it involved sending his son away to his sister far up north, away from his brother’s influence before proceeding. The fury in his brother’s eyes was intense and the pain and torture that Kanan endured that night was unlike any he had ever suffered before. He was nearly left for dead when it was all said and done, but he knew that he could never return to the city he grew up in or there would be no next time to consider. Weeks passed during his recovery time and all the while he worked through the pain so he could be ready for the next step. Next it was time to make something of his life, to become someone that his son could be proud of, perhaps even a way to help redeem his soul; next he wanted to become a hero.

|| Written test || Ms. Styles’ academic scores exceeded expectations, given her lineage this isn’t all too surprising. While her intelligence is without question and her morals admirable, she has a lot to learn.

The panel of professors and admins before her conferred amongst each other, which left the young girl to the thoughts in her head. Discouraging ones like an angry swarm, ‘why are you here?’ ‘Don’t you believe your abilities could be beneficial elsewhere?’ ‘you’re wasting your time, little girl.’ Some days these thoughts were too much to handle, today they came close, but the desire to be here outweighed the negative; until the silence was broken, and the swarm scattered.
“Ms. Styles,” spoke one of the instructors, “you’ve given an impressive display, truly you have, but what this school demands is not for the faint of heart. Even with your fantastic suit, I’m not sure if this school can take someone with-”
“My limited powers? Sir, there is a reason I came with this suit, but I’m not here because of my powers, I’m here because I want to be a hero, isn’t that what you train people here for?” She could feel a lump forming in her throat, but forced it down to continue on, “Ever since I was 6 years old I knew I wanted to be a hero, standing here, even now shows how dedicated I am to that belief. I know I’m not the first student who has had to struggle at this academy and once I graduate, I know I won’t be the last.” She awaited an answer, unsure how the instructors would react to her candid outburst.

Kayla is perceived as innocent and naive, definitely the kind of person that doesn’t belong in a school of wolves like this. Her black and white standpoint on morality may also tick the wrong boxes with some people.
Mindblock - An ability that renders Ms. Style’s mind all but null and void to telepaths, psychics and mentalists. She cannot be detected by, communicated with, or manipulated with, by any mental based abilities. Quiksilver Armour - Outside of the mental blocker, Ms. Styles doesn’t have any powers to speak of, yet she was able to perform a demonstration using a power suit designed by her father, Dr. Brennan Styles. The suit itself seems to enhance the user's strength, agility and reaction time. The suit also seems to have an enhanced jumping mechanism to allow the user to traverse greater heights and distances quickly. This will certainly help Ms. Styles to keep up with the other students.
L I M I T A T I O N S
We were informed by the doctor the suit is only a prototype, therefore it does have a limited power supply and is not entirely impervious to having its power drained, although it has some resistances to these forms of attacks, it cannot sustain these resistances for long. As for her mental ability, Ms. Styles isn’t even sure how she was able to turn it on, let alone how to turn it off. This will make her somewhat of a detriment if paired with a mental based partner or a telepath that could rely on her for a stealth operation.

Kayla’s family history does stem from the Lovelace line through her mother Elizabeth, which makes Kayla and Illuria cousins. They spent a lot of their childhood together, but it’s been years since they’ve interacted with one another.
For as long as Kayla could remember, she’s wanted to be a hero. Having grown up around such influential people and heroes like her parents, how could she not want to be one? Every day she studied hard and tried to figure out when and what her powers would eventually be. As the years went on, however and no powers developed, her confidence slowly began to wane and eventually the reality of her situation was accepted. Kayla Styles, daughter of Dr. Brennan Styles and Elizabeth Lovelace-Styles, was born without powers; ergo she could not become a hero like her parents before her.
Fate had other plans for the young Styles though and one day while playing with her cousin Ria, she had fallen and struck her head against a rock. Several hours had passed before she awoke in the hospital to the confusion of the staff who had pronounced her brain dead sometime before. After some personal tests done by her father, as well as a visit from some family from the Crownes and Lovelaces, it was determined that her powers had awoken. Somehow that accident jumpstarted Kayla’s powers and blessed her with the ability to prevent access to her mind. Beyond ecstatic, Kayla declared with renewed confidence that she would attend the academy like her parents before her and become a hero.
Her parents tried to talk her out of attempting to go to Crystal Peak, but Kayla was hellbent on this one goal in life. Rather than let her go at it with the clothes on her back though, her father had other plans and began development of a prototype suit for Kayla to use. When it was completed and finally presented to her, there was a mixed bag of emotions floating in Kayla’s brain. On one hand she could finally achieve her dream with this suit, but on the other hand, this was not something she had earned on her own, it was a tool to give her an advantage; in other words, she’d be cheating. Her father argued that without any real control over her powers, she wouldn’t survive at the academy. Reluctantly though, a deal was made, that if Kayla could one day actually control her abilities, that she could return the suit to her father; for now though it was hers.
After a difficult first year, struggling through her courses, but overcoming her handicaps with high marks, the young student returns, ready for what this year may bring. Though the new inclusion of Crestview students has her worried, she’s treating it like being a freshman all over again. Hopefully this time though, she’ll actually be able to make friends this year.
|| Written test || Ms. Styles’ academic scores exceeded expectations, given her lineage this isn’t all too surprising. However, most of the prompts involving hero work were answered with her saving as many lives as possible, often to the detriment of herself. While her intelligence is without question and her morals admirable, she has a lot to learn.
|| Practical test || Ms. Styles' performance with the power suit was quite impressive. Her strength, agility and endurance have been greatly enhanced. Although we were curious to see the full capabilities of the suit, we were advised by Dr. Styles himself that this was a prototype and not to go too hard on it.
|| Written essay topic || Ms. Styles' essay drew a great deal of inspiration from Bechtel's own Weaver, another powerless in a family of powered heroes, with the lofty goal to help others and save the world. Her heart is in the right place and she certainly has the lineage and assets to achieve these goals, but does she have the willpower?
|| Video supplement ||
Kayla says it with as much assuredness as she could muster, her stance an attempt at confidence, but her shaking frame and fidgeting hands give her away. The panel of professors and admins before her conferred amongst each other, which left the young girl to the thoughts in her head. Discouraging ones like an angry swarm, ‘why are you here?’ ‘You don’t have any powers?’ ‘you’re wasting your time.’ Some days these thoughts were too much to handle, today they came close, but the desire to be here outweighed the negative; until the silence was broken, and the swarm scattered.
“Ms. Styles,” spoke one of the instructors, “you’ve given an impressive display, truly you have, but what this school demands is not for the faint of heart. Even with your fantastic suit, I’m not sure if this school can take someone without-”
“Powers? Sir I’m not here because I have powers, I’m here because I want to be a hero, isn’t that what you train people here for?” She could feel a lump forming in her throat, but forced it down to continue on, “Ever since I was 6 years old I knew I wanted to be a hero, standing here, even now shows how dedicated I am to that belief.” She awaited an answer, unsure how the instructors would react to her outburst.
A woman’s voice speaks up, “I have a feeling, you’ll be able to handle yourself just fine here.”

Kayla is perceived as innocent and naive, definitely the kind of person that doesn’t belong in a school of wolves like this. Her black and white standpoint on morality may also tick the wrong boxes with some people.
Ms.
C O M B A T
The suit seems to have a generalistic range of weaponry from non-lethal wrist mounted projectiles, based on Dr. Styles’ ionic pulses, to smoke and flash grenades as well as concussive shot rounds.

Kayla’s greatest aspiration is to be a hero and she tries her best to live up to that role every day by showing kindness, compassion and empathy to those around her. Despite always wanting to help those around her, she can barely help herself stand on her own two feet. Born to a prominent family in the hero community without any powers doesn’t help her self esteem either. Regardless she is loyal to a fault, ready to help her friends in a scrap if they’re ever in trouble.
F E A R S
Her greatest fear is that she will never be good enough in the eyes of her family and peers, that her powerlessness will make her less than those around her. Outside of that, definitely spiders.
“Dad is probably the smartest person I know, and I know a lot of kids say that about their parents, but he’s a scientist, started up his own tech and energy company, even built superpowers just for me. He’s always been my biggest support, always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. He seems preoccupied lately and I miss talking to him like we did when I was living at home. I know he’s busy running his own company and everything, but it feels different than before."

|| Written test || Mr. Masterson’s general knowledge scores in history, mathematics and writing were average at best, though he does have an unnatural understanding of biology, physiology, chemistry and etymology, despite claiming he’s never, “Touched one of those books in his life.” Seems more concerned with solving the immediate problem before him with little regard of how the outcome might affect those around him.
|| Practical test || Although Mr. Masterson has no raw, physical power, this doesn’t make him defenseless. So long as there are insects in the environment, he seems to be able to call upon them to his aid. They mostly seem to be a deterrent, though the potential applications could be limitless.
|| Written essay topic || Mr. Masterson gave a rather passionate essay on saving the environment, being a hero of the ‘trillions unseen and unheard’, and gave rather comprehensive and extensive (and explicit) details on the trending topic “#savethebees”. Though his ideologies of a hero are not from a humanitarian standpoint, his heart does seem to be in the right place.
|| Video supplement || “Why do I wanna be a hero? To save lives, you know?” Zeke chuckles nervously, wringing his hands together before sighing, “I don’t know man. Dad got his crazy fire powers from grandpa, who’s a freaking wizard by the way, and sis got those powers from dad. And moms? Hell she could make people act crazy, not like themselves, or even seduce them. You think I would’ve gotten a piece of that, but no; the only ‘Daddies’ I can seduce are Long Legs.”
“I guess… I wanna be a hero, cause I was always that weird kid in school. Always made fun of, that weird ‘bug boy’; shit kind of happens when you can talk to bugs all day. It’d be kind of nice if people looked out the window, saw me swagger down the street and say, ‘Hey, there’s that swarm kid, look at him go! He’s gonna save the goddamn bees.”
Freshman year, Zeke had managed to make a few friends, and the folks that didn’t like him simply stayed away from ‘that weird bug kid’. After the incident though, with the rumors circulating around about his sister, he’s become a lot more standoffish towards those he doesn’t know, even aggressive in some cases. Only the few he’s still willing to call ‘friend’, don’t receive the brunt of his wrath.
Entomokinesis - Ability to manipulate or control insects. Rather than from a purely mental manipulation as is demonstrated in psychics, Mr. Masterson’s form of control is through pheromones produced from his body. It seems the chemical signals are able to convey to the insect/s in question, what exactly he wants them to do.
Entomopathy - Ability to communicate with insects. The same pheromones and chemical signals that Mr. Masterson produces are also being emitted by insects and it seems he is able to receive these signals in communication. It’s not the same as having a conversation, but it seems the pheromones he receives travel to the limbic system, where they are processed as raw data. He doesn’t necessarily talk to them, but he can feel what their needs or present dangers are and in a way, see what they see.
L I M I T A T I O N S
Mr Masterson’s powers are limited to control/manipulation and primal communication. He cannot create any insects on his own and has to rely on the environment around him for any aid.
C O M B A T
Having to rely purely on his insects will get Mr. Masterson killed in a real field operation. Recommending basic hand to hand combat training for his first year, with the potential to take more advanced courses throughout the later years. We also recommended to him that he find a way to produce a steady supply of insects; he quickly asked about building an apiary.

Ezekiel is the youngest sibling of three, and outside of his father, the only boy in the family. Even at a young age, his powers became readily apparent, especially when his parents found him clapping happily on the floor, a circle of ants around him. The odd one out, he’d suffered through the torment, or tolerated the doting of his older sisters, always finding his way outdoors to commune with nature. There was a peace and serenity to be found outdoors that he couldn’t really have when he was around his siblings and better yet, there was plenty of life around to communicate with. His younger years were certainly happier ones, even after his father went blind and they adopted a childhood friend, Melanie Graves, life felt as happy and normal as could be.
Things don’t last forever though and Zeke learned that lesson the hard way when Mia was diagnosed with Cancer and succumbed to the disease within a couple of years. Then Melanie ran away from home and both his parents turned themselves in, leaving both him and his only remaining sibling in the care of an old friend of their father's. They spent the next three years living in a super bougie hotel while completing the rest of their high school education. It wasn't like they were shunted off to some foster care, but it certainly wasn't home and losing most of your family to different circumstance didn't help. Zeke spent most of his days being mischievous, pulling a few pranks here or there and taking the brunt of it out on Phoebe mostly; though she was sure to dish it back in her own way. Finally when Elijah and Gianna were released from prison, they could go home and live a life with some kind of normalcy.
Zeke knew that normal was never really among the status quo as tragedy struck again when the Crestview fire broke out, and rumors began to spread that Phoebe had started it. Another close call, another nearly lost sibling, Zeke made a decision. Things were never going to be the same again and he had to protect the people that were left. He wasn’t a powerhouse by any means, but he could be a benefit in another way. Environmental Sciences always felt the right choice, especially with how in tune he is with nature, literally talking to the ecosystem itself. So why not just follow Phoebe to Crystal Peak and kill two birds with one stone?
