Dominique held two fingers to her neck and looked down to her watch, measuring her heart rate as she sat on the edge of the pool. After quickly typing the result into her phone-- a solid 120 beats per minute-- the ginger stood from her seat and walked over to her towel. She removed her swim cap and goggles carefully before setting them onto the table beside her. She undid her long, ginger hair from it’s bun and dried off the few strands that had gotten wet before running the towel over the rest of her body. A few moments later, and the ginger had the towel wrapped around her waist and carried her hoodie over one arm, beginning to make her way back to the dorms. Now she was really awake.

Devin was somewhat lost on what his next steps to get to class should be. It felt weird all of a sudden to be going to school alone. Most days the craziest thing was he was never alone. In the morning he helped get his younger siblings ready and when he left the house he walked with his friends. He thought about popping in his headphones and just walking himself, but then thought better. Never give up an opportunity he thought as he decided to try and see if anyone else was still not heading out the door. 

As if a high school wish granter had heard him Dominique entered the dorm wrapped hair and all. "The pool isn't locked at this hour?" He asked. "I guess that means I decided to be a sweaty mess with my run this morning..." The joke wasn't so much meant to make anyone laugh as it was to just be a simple ice breaker. 

"You want to walk to class together?" He added looking down at his cell phone and then back up at Dominique. After reading the materials given to us by the school I have a feeling group projects don't start with your normal meet and greets." He was now remembering what his parents warned him about when it came to going in as a lone wolf. It never works out in the end. 

As Dominique walked back into the dorm commons, she almost jumped at Devin’s words. Having been lost in her own little world, she hadn’t even noticed him standing there. With a  nervous smile, she looked up as Devin spoke to her. She quickly pulled out her earbuds before shaking her head. "Nope, no gates or anything. It's quite refreshing actually, if a bit cold." The ginger let her damp hair down and rolled her neck gently, before pulling her hoodie over her head and sliding her arms into the sleeves. 

“If you’ll just let me quickly get ready, I’d love to walk to class with you.” Dominique walked past him quickly and went into her room. After closing the door behind her, she turned around and looked in front of her. Her uniform was hung up in the closet. While cute, it was definitely not was she was expecting for such an academy. She had hoped to see something a little more practical, more….military-like. 

With a shrug, the ginger hopped into the shower to get the chlorine out of her hair and to freshen up a bit before class. The warm water definitely felt nice after the frigid waters of the outdoor pool. A few moments later, the ginger hopped out of the shower and grabbed her blow drier to expedite the drying of her hair. With a practiced hand, she then passed a brush through it numerous times before putting her hair up in a slightly fancier than usual ponytail, topped off with a few braids.

After that, the young woman grabbed her uniform and hastily put it on, followed by her trademark arm bracers. She had decided on the black overcoat over the white one, her father had always said black brought out her eyes. A quick glance in the mirror and a few touch-ups of makeup and she was ready. Dominique nervously opened her door and stepped out into Devin's view. She took in a breath and looked to him.

"How do I look?"

First impressions were everything and she wanted to slay on the first day, be it figuratively or literally.
