Maybe the real plot was the friends we made along the way. [Last Updated: April 3, 2022]
I'm 26 years old and I have learned not to share too much of my personal life on the internet. I work as an English and writing tutor at a local college.
I love literature and poetry, and I also enjoy writing, and I like to think I'm not half bad at it. I first started writing as a hobby with online roleplay at the start of 2010, and I've slowly drifted away from it in recent years. I enjoy most genres, but if I had to pick a couple of favorites, they would be sci-fi and high fantasy—heavy emphasis on the high fantasy. Some of my favorite characters have come from Elder Scrolls roleplays, since it appeals to the D&D nerd in me.
I have a tendency to get carried away with making my character sheets. I like telling their stories in the sheet sometimes even more than the roleplay itself, which depends on the roleplay itself of course. I want my readers to know how their background influences them as a person, how their personality bleeds into their appearance, and I love watching characters overcome their personal tragedies and finding their true selves as their identities shatter and reform like kintsugi. I've always been a fan of characters overcoming their weaknesses and obstacles and I try to make that show in many of my characters. Therefore, many of the narratives I explore come from a place of vulnerability, but I try to balance the heavy themes with light whimsy.
I also try to research whatever it is I'm writing about so that I'm not just spitting into the wind - unless that's what my character is doing, in which case I try to make sure that's made clear in my writing. It’s kind of hard to define my style, as I’m influenced by all sorts of literary movements and schools of criticism; dark romanticism, modernism, post-modernism, Marxism, feminism, post-structuralism—I have a lot of isms in my pocket. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of my favorite dark romantic authors, Dickinson is one of my favorite naturalist poets, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Langston Hughes, and Robert Frost—they’ve all in some ways informed my writing, as well as many others. I even tend to look to some of my fellow guild mates for inspiration or analyze what I like about their writing and see what I can do to improve my own through their example.
Not necessarily an underling of Megan's troop, he acts more of a consultant and advisor to the enigmatic leader, and an invaluable right hand, while also being handy with computers and networks. He is an absurdly tall individual at 6'5", but his build leaves much to be desired. A fairly lanky man, with a small plump belly, as though he had been shirking off on exercise for the past month. Very short, cropped, dark brown hair lines his wrinkled forehead, and a thin layer of stubble is splashed across the bottom half of his face - a life on the run has not served his demeanor well. He is often seen wearing a tattered brown, leather jacket, black baggy jeans, and any number of formal-looking button up shirts underneath. To his dismay, every single article of clothing he owns, save for his boots, are riddled with holes. He looks all around him with shifty eyes, as though suspicious of everyone and everything.
Powers:
The Hive
Damon is a hollowed body, and is a host to hundreds of thousands of Africanized bees. Especially in enclosed spaces, he could swarm whomever he wanted in an instant if he so chose. He has minor telepathic abilities that allows a communication and control among his hive, which also allows access to a sort of omni-awareness around him by using his bees as scouts to keep eyes on the surrounding areas. They leave and enter his system through the numerous holes in his body. To survive this condition, he possesses a limited immortality: unable to die unless something were to happen to his brain...
@FernStone Interesting, a psychologist is a change of pace. She is accepted.
I see some possible relations with Lihua due to their similarities, and whatnot. Lihua is the one character who needs therapy out of everyone. lol
Mother fucker, what do you think her boyfriend's been doing these past 7 years?
Also @FernStone, in Verthaven I had a character, Baron Moreau. Lihn graduated 7 years ago, so Baron might not have been her professor, but it might stand to reason that she knows of Dr. Moreau, since he's a genius neuropsychologist (with a number of other closely related degrees) who has studied psychology for 24 years. He might make some appearances in front of DOVE now and again, despite not being with the organization.
@NosuchthingI'm reading "genuinely a good man" and "enjoys killing and torturing certain kinds of people" over and over again in your sheet. The repetitiveness sounds like someone talking to themselves and trying to rationalize murder. I don't think that's how you're gonna convince the reader that Matthew means well.
I'm also expecting him to commit suicide since he has a power too.
@FernStoneI'd argue that being in the gang is by no means a feasible training method for combat or shooting. They might have access to firearms, but there's no official training in that sort of environment. I'd expect him to be an okay shot, but wouldn't stand a chance even against a recruit RAVEN. Neither are there any sort of martial art or defense program in gangs. He could probably fight dirty, utilize what tools he may, but hand to hand is a different story.
I might sound hypocritical in saying this after posting Reyna (but in my defense, she was of the first to be posted and boxing fits her character without being tacked on), I feel uncomfortable with the standard being set with everyone being fighters (or RAVEN/DOVE and thereby having the training regardless). The exceptions are 2 of the GM's own characters, Rory, Lava Lamp Head, and Arianna.
@RedDusk I'm a bit confused about the backstory, mostly the timeline of events. Since if he's twenty-one, he would have to be around fourteen when the Verthaven disaster occurred, and NEST was disbanded. But, you mentioned that NEST was after him instead of DOVE or RAVEN.
The other thing I want to say is that he should have a few more weaknesses since electricity manip is powerful on his own, and he can also infuse himself with electricity to gain strength and heightened reflexes.
Yeah, don't we know a guy that caused trouble with a power like that? :^)
