Bio

Maybe the real plot was the friends we made along the way. [Last Updated: April 3, 2022]

I'm 26 years old and I have learned not to share too much of my personal life on the internet. I work as an English and writing tutor at a local college.

I love literature and poetry, and I also enjoy writing, and I like to think I'm not half bad at it. I first started writing as a hobby with online roleplay at the start of 2010, and I've slowly drifted away from it in recent years. I enjoy most genres, but if I had to pick a couple of favorites, they would be sci-fi and high fantasy—heavy emphasis on the high fantasy. Some of my favorite characters have come from Elder Scrolls roleplays, since it appeals to the D&D nerd in me.

I have a tendency to get carried away with making my character sheets. I like telling their stories in the sheet sometimes even more than the roleplay itself, which depends on the roleplay itself of course. I want my readers to know how their background influences them as a person, how their personality bleeds into their appearance, and I love watching characters overcome their personal tragedies and finding their true selves as their identities shatter and reform like kintsugi. I've always been a fan of characters overcoming their weaknesses and obstacles and I try to make that show in many of my characters. Therefore, many of the narratives I explore come from a place of vulnerability, but I try to balance the heavy themes with light whimsy.

I also try to research whatever it is I'm writing about so that I'm not just spitting into the wind - unless that's what my character is doing, in which case I try to make sure that's made clear in my writing. It’s kind of hard to define my style, as I’m influenced by all sorts of literary movements and schools of criticism; dark romanticism, modernism, post-modernism, Marxism, feminism, post-structuralism—I have a lot of isms in my pocket. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of my favorite dark romantic authors, Dickinson is one of my favorite naturalist poets, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Langston Hughes, and Robert Frost—they’ve all in some ways informed my writing, as well as many others. I even tend to look to some of my fellow guild mates for inspiration or analyze what I like about their writing and see what I can do to improve my own through their example.

I have actually been meaning to make edits to the character to fill in some missing information, but RPG has been shitting in my mouth all week.
I feel that Jex and Maulakanth should not be in the same room for more than two seconds.

The similarities are a bit numerous, yeah, though the warrior/rogue split between them drives them different ways. I don't blame you for not reading all the sheets beforehand, there's so many of them, haha. I still haven't given them all good reads.

I'm not bothered, though, no. I happen to know that Fiona interacting with thiefy types is pretty fun :)

I think it would be interesting to see how their relationship would develop. They have very different upbringings, and they both have dealt with their hardships in different ways. While Fiona might chastise Finch's way of life, so they would butt heads often, but she might also have sympathy with him and bond over their mutual losses to the Dominion.

@Spoopy Scary I am loving Finch. The total lack of combat prowess is going to be very interesting to see in action. May I ask what steered you away from hand-to-hand as a means for self-defense? I don't ask as a critique, actually, I debated on going with a follower of Mara who preferred other means than killing. No matter the reason, I do find Finch an interesting sort and hope to see more!

Thank you so much!

I was debating whether or not he would have anything to defend himself with in the first place, like maybe have Speech as one of his somewhat proficient skills, but decided that his charisma as a beggar wouldn't be so great, and his pessimism might keep him from being a strong orator. It also wouldn't be beyond him to slip a small crossbow so that, when he could, down a couple of wild animals should he have to eat. But back to the original point, no, he's not a fighter. Hand to hand can come in two forms, strength to overpower, which Finch doesn't have the build for, or dexterity, which would require some form of specialized martial training which Finch wouldn't have had access to. Even if he had, it's more ingrained in his personality to avoid fights, having been a kid sheltered in the Imperial City and being rather shy and soft-spoken back then. Even after, as a defenseless street urchin, the key to surviving is pretty much avoiding trouble.
I had just gone through and read the rest of the sheets. Wow. @Luminosity, I didn't realize how similar our characters' history is (I think it's neat that they've taken different approaches, speaks of the differences in their personalities). Though in war, I suppose it would make sense that revenge and slain families is commonplace, but it's still fairly close. Does this bother you at all?
Usually, I find there's an abundance of beast race submissions to my games. This is the first time there's been a metric shitload of humans. Shaft! CONFIRM THIS FOR ME.

Well, assuming everyone is accepted - there may need some reworks to go around, but regardless, if we're all in we would have (including the GMs): 3 Bretons, 2 Imperials, 1 Nord, 1 Redguard, 1 Dunmer, 1 Argonian, and someone said they were making an Altmer.

Considering how we're in High Rock, in Empire territory (or ally territory, whatever), the demographic seems to suit, even if missing an orc.

I am a super mean person. The meanest, even.

People love me for it, for some reason.

It makes it even worse with Cell licking at us like that. It's like rubbing salt in a wound. Taunting us.

Don't fret about what others are doing, if you have an idea for a character, feel free to write it up! I'd rather people make characters they want to play rather than trying to fit an arbitrary role; it's a lot easier to feel invested in an idea if you weren't forced to do something that wasn't your idea choice.

Plus, depending how many sheets we get submitted, some are going to be regrettably turned down and likely put into a roster to call upon if people drop out. It's entirely possible one, both, or neither of the merchant characters will make the initial selection.

I don't want to sound doom and gloom or imply that you're wasting your time, because even people I know and played before are going into this with a clean slate without preferential treatment or prejudice. Best thing anyone can do is make sure the quality's top notch, and even if people don't make the initial selection, I will contact them (if they choose) as soon as a slot opens up.

My last RP, which is still ongoing, had a problem where I wanted to see how manageable it would be to accept everyone's sheets, which were all pretty darn good, and ended up having to try to manage the clusterfuck of 16 characters. I'd rather avoid that again, because these games do not lend themselves well to huge numbers of characters. >_>

Oh, it's not that bad. True, it would be neat to work on the idea that I had, that was a character I had already made before and I wanted to elaborate on even further, but this also gives me an opportunity to exercise another idea I had. I don't know if this kid will work or "click" with me, but I would definitely like to give it a shot.
I was initially going to make an underworld merchant type, but the computer crashed and I had to go to work. When I came home, someone already made a merchant character.

Sad face.

@LeidenschaftMy guy might not be a criminal, but he's not someone who respects any kind of class. He's got an intelligent mind, but he's a beast on the hunt and doesn't mind getting his hands bloody

That sounds a little bit like a criminal, but I guess we'll wait and see. You do you.
