I had assumed as much although it is always worth asking if it did hit, @Hekazu. At least now we know their Armor Class is above 9, revolutionary, I know. I am just more thankful that failed hits and fumbled attacks will not inadvertently strike allies. Now that would really have made them a pain.

The sudden appearance of the creatures responsible for the fallen bats throughout the fleeing swarm forced the hunter's arm to shield his face as he worked to draw the great blade. By the time the weapon freed itself of the last metal ring that carried it safely in its bound scabbard, the airborne vermin had already besieged them, ignoring him for whatever reason; in that moment he made no recollection of his armor being a deterrent, rather he only knew his newfound companions were attacked. Hefting the steel, the wanderer maneuvered his way through the horde of bats, some brushing into or skirting his silhouette as he waded in and found himself nearest to the half-orc. The creatures, which he feared were a threat, had by now more than proven their overt hostility. At least two latched on to the savage fighter's flesh and were tearing into him with their pointed proboscises, making the mess all the more chaotic.

Heaving back, Brannor attempted to judge the gap and pull the swing among the sea of beating, flying bodies. He snarled softly to himself through his makeshift scarf that shrouded his face and swept right to left with the point aimed at one of the offenders. In the meanwhile the priestess, toting two blades in hand, skewered and cut down those addressing her, while the cackling hyena snapped its jaws upon another still and tore it into mashed fleshy bits. All the the man had hoped now was that he missed his strike upon Orchid's body or that he ran a keen edge across the sanguivore's figure and flayed it into two. The bats however, made that even more difficult.

Effects

Brannor moves up to 30ft to be within melee range of one of the stirges attacking and attached to Orchid. He makes an attack with his greatsword, with a 9 to hit. If this attack somehow strikes, it deals 12 slashing damage. If any of the stirges provoke an attack of opportunity from him, he will strike at the first triggering foe.

Does there appear to be any risk of accidentally striking an ally when targeting a stirge and potentially failing, @Hekazu? Or does it seem safe enough to attack them without invoking any danger to the would-be aided companion?

This I have bore witness to as well, @Rawk, so there is even more substance to @Gunther's claim. A related fact is, is that I find people generally concerned with things that are not relevant, say media and pop culture, rather than anything fundamentally important and worth actually knowing. Some take these things alarmingly more serious and in-depth than they do facets of their livelihood, such as their occupation.

You would be correct, @Gunther, although to me it is far, far more strange that people are not intrinsically aware of this.

I habitually prefer to keep to corners and avoid large open spaces. Woodland is preferable to purely open ground, in example, and I skirt the edges of large rooms, better still those nearest exits. There is something innately unsettling about the alternative and I am not sure how people can comfortably exist in them.

Thank you both, @Gunther, @Liv, and even yet receiving official recognition from the office of President of the United States is still significant, especially for academic achievement. No small accomplishment, stamp or not.

For the unrelated but essential fact, in keeping with the topic, one of the elements I dread most about roleplaying is naming my characters. I do not enjoy the process of trying to formulate a name and almost always find myself second guessing it for the reason it just does not "feel" ideal in some terribly nondescript, inexplicable way.

I have earned and received further recognition and promotion yet again. What is to make this accomplishment even better is that not only was it unknown to me, I was hand selected. Better still, the specific noted accomplishment that christened the decision will be a matter that will appear in one the United States' historical research centers, becoming part of history.

In all seriousness, if I'm seemingly not engaging directly on the stuff you're saying, sorry, not sure what's not clicking. Unless its just me listening to some scary story tales here.

I would say not to view them as scary stories, read them instead as forewarning. You are not the first to propose these ideas and there are some notable trends that have blossomed over time on this site, as they do with any other site, that makes this difficult. I can speak for no one else but myself so I will not even try to claim as much, yet the reality remains the points laid out earlier. All I can say is that I hope, should you try it, you take the advice from the varied users here seriously and try to shape things around it, lest you be disappointed otherwise.
