Elizabeth is typically the positive, "glass half-full" type of person on the outside. She is a people pleaser through and through, constantly looking for ways to help others in any way she can. Many consider her the "mother" of the friend group, and some even give her a hard time (in a friendly manner) about always trying to nurture everyone she is close to. If you needed anyone for any sort of reason at all, rest assured that Elizabeth would be there for you in a heart beat. At times this gets her into trouble and often used as a door mat for people who recognize this trait and manipulate it to their advantage.

On the inside, Elizabeth is very anxious and can fall into depression slumps. She does her very best not to show any sort of change in mood or behavior, however, and few people know how dark her mind can get when she's alone. Due to this, Ellie is constantly putting herself in situations where she can be with other people. Whether that be with her friends, family, or even enjoying conversation with strangers that she meets at work - as long as she isn't left alone with her own thoughts.

Short Bio
Elizabeth is the eldest child of Johnathon and Mary Baker, a couple who were both born and raised in Emerald City. Loving the town and wanting to continue with Jonathon's family business, the Bakers chose to raise their family in Emerald City and bought their own house on the Outskirts of town - figuring that to be a quiet and safe area to raise their kids. The family has remained in that house ever since.

As the eldest child, Elizabeth held a lot of responsibility on her shoulders growing up. Since she was around the age of 10, she knew that she was expected to stay in Emerald City and take over the family business. The Baker's had two more children after Elizabeth, two identical twin boys who are 7 years younger than her. Elizabeth would often help care for the boys, as both of her parents worked at the time. This was the beginning of Elizabeth's people pleaser and mother-like mentality.

Four years ago the Baker's lost a key staple to their family - Mary Baker. Just a few months before Elizabeth was due to graduate high school, a drunk driver in an SUV struck her vehicle while she was on the way to an early morning shift at The Cosy Bear Cafe. It gutted the family completely. A massive hole had been left in their lives. Her father had placed blame on all of the new comers, as the driver of the SUV had only arrived a few months prior, and the hate for them began festering in his heart from then on.

Now, her best friend Lily - the Mayor's daughter - has gone missing and has recently been assumed to be dead. Elizabeth has been devastated, barely functioning since she was first discovered to be missing...

Personality
To sum it up, Levi is a sarcastic smart ass. Much to the chagrin of his fellow police officers, Levi loves a good prank and often has no idea when to be serious. Much of his coping mechanisms are to defer to humor, which has annoyed many significant others in the past. While sarcastic, if he's serious about something, he's very blunt and to the point. A pet-peeve of his is beating around the bush during any type conversation. Whether it be interrogating a suspect or finding a girl attractive, he's typically going to say exactly what's on his mind and he'd like it if you did the same.

In college he was a heart breaker of sorts, floating from girl to girl at his whim. The female gender would flock to him and he barely had to try. Now in his 30s, he's decided that he no longer wants to play the dating game. He's had his fun. Of course, he can't help but have that sultry charisma (or maybe it's his looks? He never knew), but he no longer intends to use that just to obtain a one night stand.

Short Bio

Levi was born in Emerald City to a young single mother who never spoke of his father. He grew up hating the town and would leave to California as soon as he graduated high school, leaving his mother behind to pursue the best law enforcement school in the country, which also put him in a load of debt by the time he graduated at age 21. At first Levi had aspired to become an attorney, to go on to the next step of his law degree, but things changed.

To celebrate his graduation, Levi visited his mother in Emerald City for a week. Near the end of his trip, Levi and his mother arrived home from dinner only to find a group of masked men robbing his mothers home. Unfortunately, Levi had hung back in the garage to take a look at his mother's car which had turned on it's "Check Engine" light on the way over. His mother was the first to find the men. They panicked and shot her on sight. A defenseless 38 year old women, shot twice - once in her left forearm (bad aim) and one more in her abdominal aorta artery. Levi dropped everything and sprinted into the house. He saw his mother writhing in pain on the ground and quickly ran to tackle one of the men trying to run out of the house. Before he could do any damage, the group turned on him and wrestled him to the ground. Together they were stronger than him and ended up tying him to a dining room chair, then shooting him in his right thigh before making their exit.

Luckily, one of their few neighbors in the countryside of town had heard the gunshots and called the police. Unluckily, his mother bled out on the ground right before Levi's eyes. Levi was lethargic from blood loss and hysterical about his mother when the police arrived.

This would change the course of Levi's life, as he was determined to never be so defenseless again, to find out who was responsible and make them pay for it. When recovered, Levi moved all of his things from California and into his mother's Emerald City home. He immediately enrolled into the Police Academy and set himself on the path which would eventually lead to the arrest of several gang members who had murdered his mother.

Now, ten years later, Levi remains in Emerald City. He's grown to like the town. Maybe not love it, but like most of it. Moving would have been a pain in the ass by the time the trial for his mothers murder was over. Besides, Levi has moved up the ranks in the police department over the years, becoming one of their top detectives. He lives comfortably, even though it's been a bit lonely, but hey - it could be worse.

William Turner has been Mayor of Emerald City for 7 years after having been re-elected for another four year term 3 years ago. This will be his last year in office. Things, on the outside, were going pretty well for him up until the disappearance of his daughter.

His personal life had not been going well for decades. It is widely known that his marriage has been on the verge of divorce for years. Rumor has it that William has a young "side-piece" out there somewhere.

Jacqueline Turner

Jacqueline is an Emerald City socialite who despises small town living, though she'll never say it out loud. Although she has been miserable with William for a very, very long time, she knows duty comes first. If she wants to keep the life she has now, she would support William in all of his business endeavors and play the part of a happy, loving wife while they are in the public eye.

Many of the male high-school and college students refer to her as a "MILF", to her delight. There is speculation on whether or not she entertains herself on the side as well, similar to her husband.

Abigail & Rainn Hartman are the owners of Canis Major. They are what most assume to be a typical "hippy" or might even be considered "hipsters".

Abigail is very fun loving and nurturing despite having no children. She practices meditation, yoga, and has a fascination for "healing crystals".

Rainn is more of an introverted, thoughtful type. He practices meditation and yoga along with his wife, though he finds walks in the forest more healing than any crystals could do.

Emerald City

Welcome to Emerald City, Oregon, founded in 1854 after Charles Moore and his family headed west due to false accounts of emeralds being found in the Cascade Mountains near by. Unfortunately Charles' dream of becoming rich off of emeralds didn't pan out, but the settlement began to flourish once oil had been discovered.

For a century and a half Emerald City remained a small town whose main income came from oil, farming and fishing in the Columbia River that runs through the cities border. During the last census only around 500 people lived there. However, within the last 10 years, Emerald City has been experiencing huge growth. The town that use to be only for drivers to pass through, or camp out for a small time, was now seeing a great influx of people moving in, building, and bringing new businesses.

Many families who have lived in Emerald City for decades do not appreciate the new growth and prefer their small town where everyone knows each other. Much of the blame has been placed on a famous singer who had built their second home in the area and shared the beautiful city with everyone on their social media. Some, though few, do appreciate their changing life - especially the younger generation, who seem to love seeing a new face every once in awhile.

March 20, 2019

One week ago tragedy struck this small town - something that has only happened a handful of times in Emerald Cities history. A disappearance, presumed murder. Not just any murder, but the murder of a 22 year old women who happens to be the Mayor's eldest daughter. Thus far, nothing has been confirmed or denied, however, most people believe that the girl is dead.

The older generation of Emerald City is placing all blame for this on the new growth of people coming in, saying none of the new people are to be trusted and that they are ruining the integrity of their beloved town.

Nonetheless, life must go on. The citizens of Emerald City must adapt to their new lives. Will they continue to be torn apart, or find a way to come together?

I plan on creating multiple NPC-type characters in order to drive the plot every so often for characters. This is going to be a Slice of Life centered around drama, romance, and how our characters deal with all kinds of situations. It will mostly just be things to keep the stories interesting, good or bad. :)
(Sidenote: This will not be used in an OP way. I won't be controlling your characters in any way, only some of the environment situations that they have to deal with. This also won't happen super often, I plan on having a main character for myself as well.)

Much of this is new construction which was made to accommodate the amount of people looking to move to Emerald City. Many new and young families live here, about a 20 minute drive away from the city center.

There are older housing areas here, closer to the outskirts of the city, though they are currently get surrounded by new housing.

Many families who have been here for decades live in this area, about a 40 minute drive away from the center of town. The houses are very old, yet typically well cared for. With the new influx of people, new comers have been moving in and remodeling any of the older houses that go up for sale.

The Countryside

The Countryside is about an hour drive away from town and almost fully consists of families who have had a part in the creation and survival of Emerald City. Most people who live here have their own farms. Oakley Ranch is among the most famous of them, as it was the first farm established in the city lines. The owner of Oakley Ranch is a blood relative to the founder of Emerald City, Charles Moore.

Emerald City Community Center

The Community Center is an older building, though it recently got a modern exterior makeover. Many educational, crafting, film, charity and sports events are held here. Most importantly, the Mayor calls formal town meetings here.

It is located in one of the older suburban areas, close to the river. In the back of the community center there is a public garden and forested nature trail - a popular spot for picnics!

Emergency Services

Emerald City Police Station

Located in the center of town. The police department is severely understaffed and overworked. Up until recently they had not had to deal with much more than parking violations or domestic disputes. They are currently in the process of hiring more police and staff members.

Mercy Medical Center

Located in the center of town, a block away from the Police Station. Similar to their police department, Mercy Medical is also understaffed and overworked. Many of their doctors and nurses are now pulling double shifts more often than not. They are currently hiring new staff members.

Schools

Rowan Elementary School

Rowan Elementary is one of the oldest buildings in Emerald City, and also the last school to get a modern makeover due to the protesting from older citizens of Emerald City to retain its historical value. It has become over populated due to the lack of room for the new children. Teachers are stretched thin, though they do their best with what they have.

Mountain View High School

Mountain View High School recently got a new modern look about 5 years ago, now having more space than ever to accommodate incoming children. They are currently hiring for new teachers!

The Moore University is a brand new building, having only been finished and opened for business in 2015. Previously, if citizens of Emerald City wanted to go to college they would have had to find somewhere out of town. Currently the administration is trying to up the appeal for going to Moore University and are strongly in favor for the progression of turning Emerald City into a "Big City".

Cosy Bear Cafe

Established in 1952 by William Baker, The Cosy Bear Cafe is now considered a staple of Emerald City. Many locals enjoy their "famous" pancake breakfast and coffee daily, though new construction around the town center has scared off some of the older customers they had.

It is still owned and operated by the Baker family, as it is passed down from generation to generation. Currently, Johnathon Baker owns the store and his daughter Elizabeth Baker works in it and is getting prepped to become the new owner someday.
