B I O Anastasia, or Ana for short, grew up in the cold and windy city of Chicago with a single father and two younger siblings. Ana's mother abandoned the family when Ana was nine years old, leaving their ill-fitted father to care and provide for the children. Her father typically tried his "best", but caring for young children was not in his wheel house and as the eldest the responsibility of care usually fell to Ana. Her father always provided a roof over their heads, but they grew up in poverty and their father would often go missing for days at a time, so Ana had to grow up fast.
Focused and determined to provide for her siblings, Ana took up a job as soon as she could find anyone who would pay a minor under the table. She worked tirelessly on both her schoolwork and her job at a restaurant, believing that one day she would be able to go to college and make enough money to save her siblings from the lifestyle they were born into. And she did! Ana, always with a knack for helping others, went into nursing school right out of high school and set up her career path. If not for the money it took, Ana might have kept going to become a doctor. Instead, fate lead her in another direction. One of Ana's first nursing jobs was at a hole in the wall clinic which is where she met a man by the name of Vincent Castellano. He and his group of friends had come into the clinic more than a few times and Ana began to know them as "regulars", which was odd at first, but the person who ran the clinic seemed to know the group like family. Ana eventually was brought in to help out with any sort of wound mending that this group needed and would come to learn that Vincent and his friends were part of the Chicago mob, which was scary at first... but Vincent was so charming that it quelled all of her worries.
Ana and Vincent soon began dating as the smooth-talker swept her off her feet. Not only that, but suddenly all of her money problems were gone! Vincent even helped out her family. Her family was his, as he told her. A few years down the line they were married, both 26 at the time. Things were perfect for another few years, albeit stressful when Vincent would get wrapped up in some sort of illegal operation. Around their fifth year of marriage things began to change as Vincent grew tired of Ana and became cold to her. The stress of Vincent's "job", his family, and their struggle to have a child together had put a lot of pressure on their relationship. Vincent started drinking heavily, lying about doing drugs, and disappearing in a similar fashion to Ana's father. Eventually he became physically, mentally, and verbally abusive to his wife. Still, Ana stayed because she loved him. She believed this was just a rough patch that they would have to get through.
Ana endured the abuse for another two years until two weeks ago Ana found out that Vincent had been cheating on her for at least a year, which was the final straw. She confronted him, despite being terrified of his rage. She regretted that as he refused to admit to the truth and instead took his anger out on her, leaving her nearly lifeless by the end of his tantrum. That night she decided she had to leave. The next time Vincent left the house Ana quickly stole all the cash he had in a hidden stash he kept at the house. She left all her belongings, told no one that she would be leaving, and drove her car out to the middle of nowhere hours away before ditching it on the side of the road and catching a cab to the nearest airport. IF Vincent decided to work with the police, which was highly unlikely, the police would believe that she was abducted by the way she left her car. Vincent, on the other hand, would know that she had intentions to flee considering the missing cash, but the mobster wouldn't be able to tell the police about the cash he had on hand. However, she hoped the car in the middle of nowhere would throw Vincent off and he would believe her to be dead or abducted as well.
Ana picked the first flight out that she saw on the departures list which would land her in Denver, Colorado - far enough away from Chicago to feel somewhat safe. Still, Ana wanted to find somewhere even more remote where no one would ever think to look. After about a week of hotel-hopping, Ana found her way to Sanctuary after seeing an ad for a cheap apartment rental in a newly developed area of the town. Thinking the town looked quiet and rural enough, Ana immediately took up the opportunity to start her new life.
