Marrie Knight

Marrie had intended to stay silent and focused as they flew, but Boteg's comment made her perk up, especially when Trixy added to it. She wasn't sure if she was right, but...

"You can tell where things are by the rain?" She could help but ask him about her guess. That would be a really handy trick if she was correct. Regardless, her attention was stolen away by the sound of horns honking. As she looked toward the source, she saw what might be Billy, and so she waved down at him. She didn't know if she was even visible from down there, especially with how barely visible he was, but it didn't really matter to her if she was or not.

Now that it was getting closer to the mission proper, a deep cold settled in Marrie's chest and shoulders. Apprehension of the heaviest kind pushed down and made it hard for her to breathe. It was worse than usual, and even considering that it had been a while since the last time, she still knew that those times barely compared with now. This wasn't a normal mission, after all. Usually she didn't have to fight other factions, or better still was working with them like against the Diver. But this time it would be direct combat with others, and quite likely others she knew at that. If GEMINI targeted Crazy first, then she might have to fight the espers she knew for sure was with GEMINI, that being the girl who had been there when she played a game with Oros and Stacy as well as Cerberus, who she had just worked with. With all that had happened since then, notably the mission with Cerberus, she didn't quite remember what the first girl's name was.

Her apprehension only got worse as the thought of the redheaded girl being beheaded showed itself again. Would something like that happen now? She shook her head, but couldn't dislodge the thought. She wouldn't let it happen again. This was why she had spent every moment she could training, she was going to prevent anyone and everyone she could from dying today.

"Oh..."



Looks like it stopped raining.

Acid Drop was not going to last much longer, her energy and emotional reserves dwindling. She hadn't heard Oros' request for help, being too far away, but that wasn't to say that her partner wasn't on her mind. Rather, Acid Drop believed that she would be the key to this victory. As she continued clashing with the captain she devised a quick plan, a last ditch effort. And luckily for her, Earthshaker took a moment to destroy the mast of the ship, forcing both herself and her opponent to steady themselves on the deck.

That was all she needed. Not caring if she would be wounded, with an intent to only block fatal attacks from the miseria she was fighting, she lunged forward while it was catching itself and grabbed it by the neck with her entire left arm. Acting entirely on instinct she poured most of the remaining magic she had into her legs for a massive push off of the boat and towards Oros and - oh, Shatterscape was there too, she noticed as she was mid-air. She hadn't known she could adjust her magic like this, but she made a mental note of her success as she let go of the captain just before landing in an explosion of sand a few yards behind the Light girls. She managed to roll to her feet, preventing most of the damage, and took a quick step towards the fight.

"Weakling cowards." was what came from her mouth as she took a second step towards the mid-battle girls. But as she did, the last of her magic ran out and her energy left her body entirely; Acid Drop fell face-first into the sand, unconscious from exertion.

It's true.

They fly now, apparently. She couldn't quite see them, but she could feel them, hovering in the air above. Jumping around to hit them might work, but it would be extremely inefficient, and Acid Drop was on a timer here. So she opted to stop spreading sand and pick up the gun from one of the pirates. But they were disappearing with them, so... She went to the nearest one and grabbed it by the neck to take its firearm away.

As she aimed it towards the aerial foes, a thought occurred. This was just like that one game, didn't Suki want to play that with her a while ago? But they never did. There was another thought nagging at her, trying to reach its way into her mind, but she couldn't quite reach it to know what it was. Instead she simply pulled the trigger, knocking down one of the fliers. When she tried to pull the trigger again, though, nothing happened. She stood in confusion for a few seconds before she realized why; the gun was a flintlock pistol, it would have to be reloaded.

Shaking the Miseria upside down didn't lead to any ammunition falling to the ground, so she shrugged and put it out of its misery. By now Nyxia was trying to blast the ship with multiple lasers, and Earthshaker was fighting further pirates on the beach. The sand had died down enough to see relatively clearly, if only for a moment, so she took stock of the fight.

... If only. Acid Drop knew that the Neon Tempest wouldn't listen, but she had to do something, and soon, or she'd be out of the battle regardless. She raised her voice to perhaps the loudest that Nyxia would have ever heard her be.

"Nyx, leave the ship alone! Get the fliers and stragglers! Earthshaker, get the boat!" Sure, the club was full of selfish and/or stupid girls, but maybe, maybe, they'd have enough battle sense to realize that they weren't going to win like this. Not waiting for the other rainbow girl, Acid Drop bolted towards the waterline, ready to jump to it and try to fight the apparent captain.

After all, if they focused on fights they were suited for, they might actually be able to clean up their mess.

Well, it seemed that Boteg, the name given by Trixy, at least understood that she was trying to compliment him on being impressive, if perhaps somewhat differently than she had intended. Also inferred from Trixy's explanation was the name of the Maverick esper who would be accompanying them. Marrie gave a slight bow of her head towards the seemingly excitable girl.

"Sounds like a good plan. Thank you for keeping this guy safe." She pointed her thumb at Boteg as she mentioned him. "My money's on both, though. Let's be honest, with the luck this city has, they're a duo who are mad because they're looking for each other while one's pregnant with their offspring who will, of course, be meaner than both of them combined."

She paused for a beat as a thought occurred. "I assume they're actually trains, given their names, but if they're giant hands maybe calling in Mario would be smarter."

After a sigh and a stretch of her arms over her head, Marrie decided it was about time to get focused. "So, a few questions. Do we know if it speaks? Preferably english? What about a trajectory, do we know if it's on track to hit the other?" She didn't register her accidental pun. "Is there any extra info that might help? And... if we do run into the other one, what's the call? Do we try to help save it too, or leave that to the church? I know that 'Crazy' is the target, but in my limited experience, things tend to get messy even with easier jobs than this."

Deep down, she knew that this wouldn't end without a fight with at least one of the other job posters, but she could hope that she was wrong.

Pirates. Pirates? Pirates. Great. At least there was good news in that the heartless anthropomorphic ants Miseria were targeting the girls instead of the bystanders. It would be incredibly unfortunate if they were going after the people that the group needed to keep alive. But since they weren't...

As the sand began blotting out the sun, Acid Drop decided it was time to spend that precious emotion she'd been storing. She began bouncing on her toes, standing on them and then flat again, then back to standing, over and over. As she did, she quickly began to pick up speed. While she had started as if she was stretching her hamstrings, in a matter of seconds she had doubled, tripled, quadrupled that speed, until her body was a blur and another cloud of sand had formed around her, bubbling out in inconsistent waves. For the length of one "jump," if they could be called that, she wondered if Nyxia had seen this or not. But that thought was squashed by remembering that she hadn't done this since well before the laser-girl had joined the club. She hadn't had need to, but this seemed like a great time to spend those months of buildup.

While all the club members knew of Tsubomi as a slow thinking, apathetic slacker, and of her magical girl state as a relatively normal, even somewhat emotive (or at least decent at pretending to be) person, they might have forgotten over the past year or so what happened when she used the part of her magic that helped in combat. By now Acid Drop was running at full speed, her magic turning her stock of emotions into what could best be analogized as adrenaline. A magical girl was pretty fast and strong normally, but even so there were normal people who might be able to almost keep up with one for as long as that chemical lasted in their body, rare though such specimens may be. She knew that even with several months worth of stockpiling, this wouldn't last as long as she might like, so she resolved to do as much as she could during her limited time. Luckily, this took less than a second to get through her with how slow the world around her seemed, so she didn't waste much of her time with something as silly as "thinking."

Another blast-cloud of sand appeared where she had just been standing as she leaped across Oros and the bystanders towards one of the piraterias. She had chosen one with a gun, driving her former scalpel through what appeared to be its eye as she landed crouched on her feet, sliding sideways from her momentum and dragging the gunman with her as she did. And then she was off again, another cloud in her place as she surged upwards and repeated the process, this time with a sword wielder. Three jumps later and the area nearest Oros was clear, at least for a moment. Though now it seemed that visibility was even worse than when she began. Maybe that would stop her. Maybe it would stop the Miseria. Maybe it would stop the pirates from knowing where Acid Drop was, but being entities of pure emotion, it was unlikely to stop her from knowing where they landed.

Still, in spite of her new speed and her time limit, she chose not to press the advance. If she got too far away, it wouldn't matter how fast she was. If the pirates got close enough and changed their targets, she would be in way more trouble than she felt the three other club members and herself were in right now.

Marrie liked to label herself as observant, but having been triple checking herself for a possible battle, she missed seeing Boteg's hint that he wasn't doing well. That is, until he exclaimed his confusion at Himiko. At which point he had her full attention.

"Hey now. Let's not aggravate the really cool dragon, okay?" she called up to the girl she only knew as Sovereign. "And maybe don't ask for someone's blood, like... at all, but especially not when just meeting them. Makes you sound like a serial killer, or something." Truth be told, Marrie wouldn't be super surprised if Sovereign turned out to be a maniac, but she hoped that she wouldn't prove herself to be one.

She also waved again, this time directly at the esper who had already been there when she arrived, but from the look of her and the assumption that she was a Maverick esper, it didn't surprise Marrie that the girl seemed to be sulking. Or rather, antisocial to some degree. Though that might be unfair to the girl. It wasn't like she herself was especially social either, though she was much more... she would charitably say "shy," and uncharitably perhaps call herself "terrified of making people upset," than this other girl seemed to be. At least as far as first impressions go.

It was a good thing that the job was posted with time to spare. It meant that Marrie had time to rest, after another day of training. The last time she'd given herself a break was when she and Walking Church had met Oliver, so a two day break leading up to today was a welcome relief. It also gave her time to buy ammunition, just in case. After all, if it came down to humans being the problem, as unlikely as that may be, it was better to be prepared than have to save mana. She glanced over the details of her mission one more time, and the two she had rejected as well. It sucked that she had to turn down Raphael's version of the job, but...

If Marrie had her way, she'd save both of the behemoths. But was she really going to fight other espers, G.E.M.I.N.I. directly, to save a monster that would almost certainly not survive against them? And what if she tried and failed, or the monster ended up being evil? She couldn't risk that. This was her trolley problem, to choose to sacrifice herself trying to save something that was presumably doomed or to try to save something that was likely to survive. Her id and superego both wanted so badly to choose the former, but rationality won out in the end. She'd save the one who could survive, and hope that the other avoided combat in the first place. And if all went perfectly, maybe she'd get her wish anyway. Preferably with little to no bloodshed on any side, though she knew that was a pipe dream.

Which meant that she was headed to meet up with Maverick Alternative once again. As she biked her way to the meeting place, she couldn't shake the thought that things would go exactly against how she hoped. That the behemoth she expected to fight G.E.M.I.N.I. would be the kind one, and that the one she would presumably interact with first would be the evil one. But she held out hope that together with Maverick, they'd save them both regardless of her preconceptions. Regardless of what was sure to be reality.

Marrie had ducked into an alleyway to transform before continuing biking her way to where she was told to go. When she turned the final corner, she couldn't help but stop her peddling and freeze in place. A dragon, a real, genuine dragon, sat on the roof of where she was going. She could only stare in amazement up until the thought of it getting hurt burst its way into her mind. But that just meant she had a bigger target than usual to protect, and she wasn't going to allow herself to fail this time, regardless.

Picking up her bicycle and walking the rest of the way, she would have waved if her hands weren't full as she called out to the golden dragon and what seemed to be the only other person, presumably an esper as well, that was with it.

"Hey! How's it going? Here's hoping for an easy time, for once." She placed her bike against the front of the garage. She'd prepped for the mission when she transformed earlier, donning her kevlar coat and hiding it under her Style, making sure her tungsten rod and pistol were within easy reach and that the gun had plenty of ammo. Now all she needed to do was wait for any other allies and make sure she kept everyone and everything alive that she could. Barring any evil garbage that might be involved, of course.

It turned out that Acid Drop wouldn't have to do the running around she had expected. She probably wouldn't have been able to anyway, with Earthshaker taking her name literally right nearby. The girl with the rainbow hair found herself stumbling around for a few moments as what could only generously be called a "plan" worked itself out. Nyxia, perhaps predictably, chose to injure her club-mate in her attempt to summon enemies that would require her victim to help fight. Watching as her magic made things even less under control than they would be anyway, Acid Drop couldn't help but wonder if acquiescing to Roche was the right decision. People were running, at least those that weren't falling over from the ground shaking, and it looked like there wasn't going to be a payoff other than that, after all.

By the time Earthshaker stopped doing what she was best at, Tsubomi could already see that her partner was in pretty rough shape. If there was going to be any Miseria showing up, the chance of the four of them stopping everyone on the beach from getting hurt was minuscule. So instead she chose to go to Oros and pick her up. She was just about to position her piggyback when the Miseria did start to show. No boss monster, yet at least, but way more than she felt would be beatable with the now only three dark magical girls who could fight.

Still, she carried Oros over to the remaining beach-goers, and made a quick request. "... Is there any chance you can restrain everyone, so they don't get in the way?" She hadn't looked away from the coming waves of the black masses, but she knew that if it were possible, then Oros would make it happen. Maybe not in the most efficient or effective way, maybe somehow that would end up being more trouble, but that didn't matter right now anyway. Oros wouldn't be able to fight, and as far as Acid Drop knew nobody there could heal her.

Pulling her weapon from her sleeve, and still staring at the approaching enemies, Acid Drop directed her next words toward Earthshaker and Nyxia. "Next time, let's think for, I don't know, maybe five seconds instead of two."

I'm more curious how people will rationalize this.

For the shortest of seconds, Acid Drop wondered if she was bad at explaining things. But that went away when she saw Oros begin rolling sandballs across the beach. Her plan was good, that would certainly attract attention, though that meant the boss would probably get mad at them all later. Or worse, more magical girls would show up to town. But that was an issue for their future selves. For now, Nyxia wanted her to get to work, so she did. As the shape in front of the crowd formed and unformed, she began to pour some of her magic into the blood and the sand. It wouldn't be as good as being ingested, but the presumable coming contact would be better than nothing.

Acid Drop glanced at Earthshaker, wondering what she was going to do. Well, it didn't really matter as long as it was something to keep the crowd from running too far. It didn't take a long time before the sculpture was full of magic and primed with fear, panic, and anxiety. She didn't quite think that panic was a good idea, but hey, that's what her club-mate had requested. Just to be safe, she also went around the crowd to the other side, ready to try to stop any runners, or make contact to up the emotional tension should the need arise. She waved at Nyxia and gave a thumbs up.
