Would anybody be interested in participating in a joint-roleplaying multiplayer game where players roleplay their civilization as though it were a real country? Every few turns players then update the game thread with stories of their civilization.
I already have a few people who are interested. We were hoping to find another 2-3 people. We have yet to decide which version of the game we will be using. Likely 5 or 6.
Please pass this along if you know someone on this forum that may be interested. This seems like a good place to find people that might find this type of thing fun.
I'm not really sure where to post this, so for fear of breaking the rules I opted the off-topic discussion.

The general concept is that everybody will be a part of the political class of a single Republic. The story will consist primarily of a political game/drama about competing political parties in a new era of uncertainty. The setting will be on a fictional planet, in the no-too-distant future, where mankind has been united under a single planetary government. Technology has progressed to the point that mankind is on the brink of space colonization. Meanwhile, at home the political winds are changing, and the once-stable republic has entered a new era of political uncertainty.
“For all of human history the world has been divided against itself. Humans have fought and died for lines on a map. This culminated itself 430 years ago when the world was conquered and subjugated under the Great Empire. The first of its kind, the Great Empire unified the entire planet under one all-powerful man. The first emperor and his sons were power hungry men. They solidified their rule through fear and violence. They bled the people dry for their own enrichment. The Iron Dynasty ruled over the world for three generations, bringing with them a new dark age.
Out of the darkness came the light of The Liberators. Formed from underground networks of freedom fighters, the Liberators were eventually able to stage a grand coup, sweeping the conquerors from power as suddenly as they had seized it. Our founders imagined a world where all men would band together, where humankind could grow and prosper under the righteous regime of the people. In pursuit of this, they first took control of the military, the Great Empire’s chief power source, and purged the institutions of power of all those enemies of democracy, before razing the institutions themselves to the ground. They then drafted a charter for a new world. The Articles vested all powers of government in The Assembly. Elected by and for the people, the assembly would forevermore have full sovereignty over the affairs of men.
Since, The Republic has endured for centuries as a bastion of democratic ideals and progress. The people have grown prosperous under its rule of law and stability. Long gone are the days of devastating war and authoritarian regimes. Long gone is repression, gross inequality, and discrimination. We have reached the pinnacle of human history.
In this great age of peace and freedom the Free People’s Party has led us to new heights of greatness. Under the wise leadership of the People's Party, culture has flourished, technological innovation has been unleashed, and markets have experienced unprecedented growth.
In this new era of exploration let us not abandon our founding ideals. Let us not lose our self to faction and division. Be sure to get to the voting booth this Thursday and vote again for the Free People’s Party! Long may the reign of the people last!”
The Republic has indeed entered a new era. Beset by internal and external forces, the political establishment of The Republic has all but collapsed entirely. The Free People’s Party has ruled as a single, unopposed party for a generation of voters. Having formed in the “Age of Peace” following the strife of the Secession Uprisings, the Free People’s Party was the manifestation of a time of relative political stability. Happy the violence was over, and mollified with generous social programs and low taxes, voters were generally uninterested in the goings-on of the assembly, and were disposed to let the political elite do as they pleased in the capital. The political elite, for their part, were more than happy to oblige them by flying under the radar and sucking what they could from the state. The Party (as it has come to be called), in turn, grew gluttonous, complacent, and corrupt. Everything seemed to blow up at once. A story leaked to The World, the Republic’s foremost news agency, implicating the Prime Minister in a corruption scandal of unprecedented proportions. Simultaneously, voters in not one, not two, but twelve different districts were taking to the streets calling for a recall vote on their delegates to The Assembly, in reaction to a recently-passed law that made it illegal to bring cases against sitting Assemblymen for most crimes. The motivation for the law? There had been a spate of recent cases brought to courts across the planet for all types of crimes committed by these Assemblymen, courtesy of the newly formed non-profit: the People’s Rights Union (PRU). Finally, the semblance of peace that had been kept for decades, the last and final claim to success by The Party had left, was broken by a new uprising in the north.
The “Age of Peace” is over. The People’s Party is over. Nevertheless, The Republic endures. What is next for The Republic and its people is entirely dependent on the next generation of political elites. In an age of uncertainty, the people need new leaders. The people need you.
RP Structure
This will be a nation RP where each player will play a political party trying to fill the vacuum left by the collapse of The People’s Party. I intend for there to be numbers and statistics underneath the story that drive how the world runs, but first and foremost will be the political drama that will unfold as we all battle it out for control of the Assembly.
The game will be cyclical. Each cycle will represent 3 months out of a year. Just as in the real world, you will run for re-election at the end of each term, and a large part of your character’s energy will be spent appeasing the constituents (again supported by underlying numbers on my end so you CAN lose reelection). Each cycle you will be sending me orders via private message to execute. The thread will document the professional and personal lives of key players in this drama as they battle it out to drive their policy initiatives. I prefer players each form their own party, and even if they don’t directly narrate the party leader character, maintain and implement a larger party strategy to keep the game interesting. At the end of the day it really is about the story however, so keep that in mind when ruthlessly devising a strategy to takedown your enemies. In addition, colorful personal stories and narratives can only add to the world, and are greatly appreciated.
Finally, because of the competitive elements of the role play, world building must be somewhat limited. I will give you a chance to flesh out your district some at the very start, but other than that I will mostly have to drive macro-worldbuilding (economics, people groups, etc). This will mostly be communicated to you through releases of The World, and reports to your individual parties through private message. On a micro-level, worldbuilding (especially things having to do with individuals) shouldn’t be an issue. If you are unclear if something you are thinking will work, just run it by me and we can probably make it happen.
Let me know if there is any interest. More information about the world itself will come with the OOC sign-up thread should sufficient interest be expressed.
Character Sheet: Name: William Laurence Age: 34 History: Will was born to a well-to-do family in Vermillion City, and spent the first two decades of his life there. Though his parents spent much of their time at sea, he loved them dearly and would watch the tide come in waiting for them to return from their voyages. When he was 10 years old they gave him his first pokemon: Eevee. He named it Drexel, and two became inseparable. Day in and day out he would train Drexel against the other children of the city, and it was then he decided he wanted to devote his life to pokemon. His parents, however, had different plans for him. They forbade him from leaving home and travelling the world as a Pokemon Trainer. Instead they enrolled him in University in Saffron City to do something they deemed proper for a boy of his class. On the day of his departure they presented him with a waterstone as a final farewell, telling him to always remember his roots in Vermillion. With only a few pairs of clothes and his only pokemon, a Vaporeon named Drexel, he set out for Saffron.
At University he spent much of his spare time in amateaur leagues battling other students and young people from the city. He began to make a name for himself, battling his way even into the more mature leagues. The realities of the world soon began to reveal themselves however. Team Rocket, a name he had thought was only from stories meant to scare young prospective trainers, began to make a comeback in the city. Things got bad, and quickly. Students and citizens alike began reporting stolen pokemon to the city authorities. It was around this time that Will’s life would take a drastic change. Walking the streets of Saffron he was attacked and chased into an alleyway. The first time he would use his pokemon in a real battle, the experience shook him. Though he and Drexel made it through ok, he knew that he wanted to be part of the force fighting these villians.
After finishing his studies, Will joined the PPA (Pokemon Protection Agency) as a field officer. His job was simple: seek out Team Rocket and destroy them where he found them. Ten years later, Will has risen through the ranks of PPA and been reassigned to direct the PPA Hoenn Division. He has come to fight a resurgent Team Magma, but little does he know he is about to stumble upon the biggest crime wave of his lifetime.
Appearance: Will is a short, lean man of about 5’6. He has short, dark, brown hair and bright green eyes. He keeps his face cleanly shaven, and generally dons a suit.
Party:
Drexel (Vaporeon) || Hydration Type: Water (See History). Generally uses its speed and agility to nimbly dodge and dart around his foes. Relies heavily on water-type moves so Drexel becomes less effective when away from water and against resistant pokemon types. Favors Hydro Pump and Dive. Move Pool:Surf, Water Gun, Wave, Bite, Tackle, Water Pulse, Arora Beam, Hydro Pump, Waterfall, Strength, Dive, Aqua Ring, Quick Attack, Agility, Double Team, Ice Shard, Aqua Jet.
Zoe (Quilava) || Blaze Type: Fire Will found Zoe as a Cyndaquil while on assignment in Johto. After clearing out a Team Rocket safe house, he found the baby pokemon in a box in the outside dumpster. He later found out Zoe had been rejected as a runt and they had left her to die outside. Will took her in and trained her to her current state. She generally likes to cover the battlefield with smoke then attack with fire-type moves. Move Pool: Ember, Flamethrower, Wil-o-Whisp, Smokescreen, Tackle, Leer, Flame Wheel, Scratch, Bite, Quick Attack, Agility, Double Team
Riley (Ralts) || Telepathy Type: Psychic Will met Riley as part of a government program whereby officers were assigned problemed pokemon to try and rehabilitate them. The two were paired up and after a rocky few months grew to love one another. Riley is still a young pokemon, and so generally serves to support Drexel and Zoey rather than fighting toe to toe with an enemy. Move Pool: Confusion, Double Team, Teleport, Disarming Voice, Reflect, Psychic, and Magic Leaf

The power of the White Magicians could be thought of as more temporary. Where they would be enchanting a sword for a few hours, Alchemists permanently enchant an object, allowing it to draw from the Great Power continuously.
I'll choose the character sheets we will be starting with tonight. We can expect to be starting later this week!
I also have a question ^.^
How long will the timeskip be? How many years?
Also a good question. The jump will be anywhere from 5-10 years. I want everyone to be fully grown by the time we return, but everyone will still be in training after the jump as well.
ok then I also have a few questions about the Dark magician you mentioned that The powers of Dark Magicians are far reaching and encompass many powers associated with other Magicians, and Because it is only the act of summoning a spirit, Dark Magicians actually don’t use much of the Great Power themselves. I that is because assume they can summon things like elemental sprites or one that can heal and that's how there powers overlap with those of the other magicians?. I was also wondering if they can do anything else like for example casting simple binding or blinding spells or even shadow spells?. One last question I was thinking because they have a change of becoming of possessed by the spirits they summon would it be possible for them to summon dead ancestors, relatives and or friends that would be willing to help them out and not try to posses them?. I ask knowing if they only summoned those types of spirits they would not likely be able to summon any really powerful ones as it would be unlikely that they would no a lot of dead people that where that powerful maybe one or two if that. If this where possible however this would allow them to summon multiple weaker spirits to do the job of a powerful one as well as allow them to focus completely on the battle as they would not need to focus on forcing the spirits to do her bidding as they would be helping them of their own free will.
Dark Magicians draw their magic from summoning the spirits of the dead and then forcing them to their will. They cannot summon specific spirits, and generally the relationship between Dark Magicians and spirits won't go beyond an antagonistic one. The Magician summons them, forces them to use their spiritual energy to perform a task (that task could be anything from creating a fire ball, to healing a wound, to turning them invisible). Depending on the nature of the task the Magician is looking to perform, they will summon spirits of different strengths. It doesn't take much for them to summon the spirit itself, no matter the strength, but once summoned it will be a battle of wills to force the spirit to perform the task the Magician had in mind.
The only kind of Magician that can enchant an object is an Alchemist. Runes, item enchantments, and potions all require knowledge of the Ancient Language associated with the Great Power.
