Lightning is caused by a current of electricity through a dense gas such as air, or Astrids body. The current excites the atoms of the air to emit a brilliant light, that we see as lightning.

Very large electric currents also flow through space. For example the solar wind is a current of charged particles. However there is not enough gas in space to cause the flash that we recognise as lightning. When this current strikes the rarefied outer parts of the earth's atmosphere, it causes a soft glow known as the aurora.

yes, electricity can flow through a vacuum, or nigh vacuum, but it doesn't appear like a spark... more like a glow, as you might find in a neon sign. it would basically dissipate into a floaty, liquid like state the moment it hit the air, harmless.

And yes, Lucian could be the conduit from which she can charge herself, a dynamic team indeed

mkay, few thoughts on this. Could definitely be wrong since I'm terrible when it comes to physics. If he takes out all of the oxygen in the air in a space, the remaining gases would be predominantly nitrogen right? Nitrogen which, although slightly less, has near enough of a density to normal air to conduct electricity? Let me know what you idea on this is, because I have no idea what a nigh vacuum is so that could change my theory.

first lucian controls oxygen or all air? so when he manipulates it to leave a space empty what happens to that space? Is it a vacuum? Or does it fill with other gases?

second I literally have no idea what happens to electricity when there is no oxygen present, fill me in. Also in the case that there is no gas at all what happens?

third lucian and astrid would literally make the best team since she gains her energy from static which he could create by manipulating the air

Jackson stood there patiently waiting for Anna to come down from her room. His back was turned from the door, head tilted up towards the stars. It was a beautifully clear night, stars shining down in full effect. It was like they had known tonight was the night to shine the brightest. Hearing a noise from the doorway, Jackson turned to greet his beautiful girlfriend. "Not as nicely as-" He choked when he saw what Anna was wearing. Actually choked! Coughing slightly he closed his eyes eyes before opening them again. Softly he spoke, his usual banter forgotten. "Oh my god Anna, you're stunning."

Where had this Anna come from? Shy mousy Anna was nowhere to be seen. In her place was a gorgeous model of a woman. Sexy and confident she leaned against the frame of the door like it was built around her. Walking quickly to her, nearly stumbling over his feet on the way to get there, he came close. When he was close enough he cupped her head, tilting it up into a passionate kiss. He broke the kiss momentarily only to say, "Wear this for me, and I'll carry you the entire way there."

Astrid begrudgingly followed to where James ended up teleporting. It seemed her little group was meeting up by the chairs. Stepping up, once again behind James, she stared hard at Lucian as he talked. Bullshit was all she could think. She had been here longer than he had by years. "How the hell are you supposed to teach me anything?" Angrily, Astrid stepped up to Lucian till they were a handsbreath away from each other. She was in no mood to be pushed around by someone less experienced than her. "Besides the fact that I've been here longer than you, you control air. That's a bit different than electricity if you hadn't noticed. Every time I breathe I turn into a battery ready to explode, and you can just get high off O2."

Turning away from Lucian before he had a chance to talk, Astrid looked for Francis to try and convince him to change his mind. By that time the professor and his own team had already left. "Damn it!" She hissed out at the empty space. In his place all she could see was Raylan looking like he just got up from a long night. That brought her some peace knowing she could probably find some booze in his room when this ridiculousness was over. Near Raylan was another familiar face and a part of her team, Robert. But she was too angry to think about him now. Sparks were flying through her hair in her rage, making a crackling sound only electricity can.
