Okay, the first post is up! :D

@Lucek: Thanks! It did go pretty well, and I had a great time. To answer your question: we primarily shoot smallbore, which means we use .22 caliber rifles, though we also do air rifle pretty frequently.

@DaDrummer: Feel free to post a cs. I was going to close this at six people, but a seventh won't be too much of a problem if they're good. And you seem to be really excited. :P

I posted already, sorry for the quality, it can only get better though *laughs* I hope no one minds that I did that ^^

@Tali That's cool. Only thing I had to do with rifles was shooting air rifles :P Nothing competitive though XD

@Lucek: It's a fine post. :3 As for rifles, I prefer smallbore over air only because I don't have an air gun that fits me very well. :P

And now I've posted as well. A tiny elf in need of kindness? Tenanye Seraphe, friendly Faerie extraordinaire, is on the case!

Awws~ here I thought I'd get snared in too. ;-) It seems I'll have to bring out the small fuzzy bundle of fluff XD
I'll correct some spelling when I get home from work. Found some just now.

Well, Edonil is just being quiet...

Not exactly as pressing as Mizzie's freaked out-ness. ;) You don't treat sprained ankles when someone else has a broken leg.

Oh don't worry. I'm sure Val'kur's eventual appearance, aka when I stop being a lazy arse, will incite a great deal of panic with Mizzie.

Still debating if I want him to have a conjured travelling companion for additional panic value.

Zom, you might want to take it up with Tali, I mean the whole conjured companion part. Edonil is well, as he is, I wasn't joking about the bundle of fluff XD
If Mizzie is the same as in the last game, then I can say this WILL be fun :P Though I had some plans for that, now I have some other ideas. *cue maniacal, evil laughter followed by coughing*

Not seeing why a conjured companion would be an issue given he's had more than enough time to establish/bind a few contracts, but sure, what do you have to say about it Tali?

My prediction:

Binding something living is difficult and complex. A Conjurer lacking formal schooling would be unlikely to manage it. I'm not going to say it's impossible; Adam had a hornet last time. A wolf is probably out, though.

Depends on how it works really, I have no idea.

In my opinion if the wolf was intelligent enough or for another reason wanted/was amiable to a bond with the Conjurer than it would be easier in some degree than to summon a mindless hornet that was simply pulled to the Conjurer.

But you have to think of the size as well. The amount of magic it would take to summon a 40 kg gray wolf is more than a novice has.

I will say that Oria has Arua and Edonil has his adopted daughter (or maybe just little sister. ^_^), so I'm not objecting to you having a companion. Just bear in mind that your magic is that of an untrained novice.

A self-trained novice, actually, Selia. If he formed a non-magical bond of friendship with the wolf before-hand, I think it would be quite simple for him to take the next step and magically bond with it. The wolf just wouldn't receive too much of a benefit from the bond. It would remain a mundane wolf in most/all respects.

(Though I am not Tali, and her perspective on Conjuration might be different)

And you stay away from her! Mizzie has her big sister back now, and Sera is one little Faerie you do not want to piss off. She'll mess you up!

Which is why how it works is important.

If size the biggest cost to summoning a creature can the bond between Conjurer and Summoned, if strong enough, cut the amount down substantially? Does an object which is the foci for Conjuration affect the magic, ie, would a fang soaked in blood spilled in a first encounter between Conjurer and Conjured be far more effective than just a plain lock of fur? Does the length of partnership and familiarity between the two individuals affect cost as well?

Depending on a bunch of factors, there's numerous things that Val'kur could do to offset the problems associated with being a novice.

It is definitely much more complex when the Summoned is a living being, and especially a relatively intelligent being like a wolf (as opposed to a worm or something).

In my opinion, all of those things you mentioned amount to a metaphysical bond between Val'kur and the wolf, and would indeed make summonings easier to pull off. Again, the main limiting factor I see is that the wolf will be just a wolf. No Bonded super-wolves for novices.

Okay, here's the general check I'm going to suggest (to be applied in any situation):

1. Is this important to the story?
2. Is this an important part of the character?

If it's not, you probably don't need it. I could have Saphira bring her squirrel or some other animal with her, but it would only be more clutter. Ruby could have connections in the town already that would give her more access, but that would just be making her a more powerful character without reason. So if your companion is important, there is a way to make it fit in. If it's just "bring it to scare Mizzie even more," then you don't need it.

Oh my dear sweet Lord. Selia, that post is giving me Adam Langley flashbacks. Literally his entire character is a guy who has been living in the wilderness for, like, nine years. Having befriended a wolf during that time is not that much of a stretch.

Having a single companion in the form of this wolf doesn't have to be a big deal, no matter his purpose for it being there...

EDIT: I'm sorry for snapping at you, but I really don't want this whole thing to happen again. The reason the "orc with a longbow" argument lasted ten goddamn pages was that Adam just wouldn't let it go, and I don't want "half-orc with a wolf" to be part two. Just let him have the wolf, you know?

Well not living in the wilderness, just travelling around, but close enough. :P

Anywho, yes the point of him leaving was sort of because his affinity drove him to seek out bonds that he could form into magical ones later.
