The Manager gave a simple shrug at Lyre’s remark. “I see, though I’d still like to see its effects on them,” he said, then turned to Nixon as he entered. “Thank you Nixon, you may leave now.” Nixon was about to say something but the Manager gave a small look, making the vampire leave.
The Manager looked at the human girl that Nixon brought, giving a reassuring smile. While he wasn’t able to use his power on humans, he had grown accustomed to his general persuasion. “Please miss I assure you that you are safe while you are here. In due time, I can get you out of here. I just need some info from you, OK?”
The girl gave a gentle nod, staring up at the Manager. “My name is Allie. I...I...live in Salem, Utah. Please...can I talk to my parents?”
The Manager gave a nod, but then a frown. “I wish I could but we are in an area that blocks outside communication. As soon as we get out of here we’ll contact them OK? But first I need their names…”
The girl began spurting out information, clinging onto her hope to get out. “Thank you, thank you,” the Manager said. “Now, this gentleman here will escort you to a room. As soon as we are able, we’ll bring you back home.” A guard approached the girl and led her out of his office. The Manager turned back to Lyre. “She’s an experiment for Isaac. Was there anything else you wanted?”
Connor made a full circle around and checked the area before continuing to head off for water. He figured there would be some kind of stream nearby. Looking behind him, Connor wondered if leaving some kind of trail to follow back would be a good idea. No, if he was attacked he wouldn’t want the supernatural to follow the nice trail to the rest. He’d have to just remember certain landmarks.
After walking for several minutes, Connor still hadn’t even heard a source of water. He supposed he just wasn’t in a good location. A slope of some kind should increase his chances. The hunter continued walking, focused on finding water.
Rand looked over at Penny suggested to find a branch. Rand slightly grimaced, worried about splitting apart, but she was already going. “Alright, be careful!” Rand shouted after her. The hunter turned back to the rock, giving a heavy breath. Right, cave. Shift rock then seal. The branch can help for access when the day comes so I can look for Connor, Rand thought. “Penny? You all good over there?”
