Your post made perfect sense Danni, and it was really awesome! Really enjoyed it. :)

I've finished Chapter 4 of Mistborn, and I have to say I'm really, really, really enjoying it. Story's excellent and the characters are fantastic. I love how its not Tolkien esque with elves and dwarves (so far?) and there isn't a ridiculous level of superfluous description and instead just gets on with the plot. Really really cool novel, thanks for recommending it. :)

No, there are some "other" races that you'll get to, but they're not elves or dwarves. Which is refreshing, in my opinion.

Can I just say how much I love Vin? She's so awesome.

I have a really, really soft spot for Vin too <3 She's awesome.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how... I'm not bothered by Kelsier and Vin being special little darlings and having all those types of allomantic powers and being 'special' which otherwise come across as really cliche and trite. Mistborn's characterisation is just a lot of fun.

And yeah, nothing against elves and dwarves in particular, I'm just bored with them and like seeing new things. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings might be good but it doesn't mean everything needs to essentially riff on it.

Also, the description of that Inquisitor with the spikes through it's eyes... @_@

Honestly, when you're dealing with a main protag in a novel, having them be "special" is not unreasonable. What really counts is not if they have awesome magical powers (and trust me, you'll meet other Mistborn throughout the series so they're not complete special snowflakes) but whether they are full, rounded characters. Which Vin and Kelsier definitely are.

And about the Inquisitors…it gets better. Muwhahahahaha.
