Yeah. They're really open about their adult boards. The site tries to cater to every taste it can. Doesn't have the same...erm..."moxie" that RPG has though. However, if I started my RP history there, I suppose my opinion would be reversed, but eh.Also, adult smut-writers can't mingle with under-age smut writers in standard boards. Pms are open season though, as it is with RPG.

Eh. If you're gonna point out how they have smut sections, you might wanna point out their: Jump-in, fantasy, modern-fantasy, modern, science fiction, horror, historical, fandom, dice, and miscellaneous sections aswell, Iwaku is not some smut-pit, i believe they don't allow underage and 18+ in PMs. But they DO try to keep everyone out of legal trouble >.> RPG is sort of the open season one.

The fact iwaku has or had a "mature" section for the under 18 crowd is one of the reasons I don't touch it.

Shit's skeevy and more than likely illegal

There's literally no updates. It's been barebones for a year.

Does it really need many more updates apart from the occasional double post issue?

QQcode is a piece of garbage compared to BBcode. There is much less options, and it always has problems. You can't change the font much other than bold, italicized, or other insignificant stuff we don't really fucking use.

Do you really need any more font or code options? It's a play-by-post forum, you've got everything you need with Italics, Bold and Underlined font. Pick up your favourite book. Did the author use Green font color when one character was talking and Red for another? No. Because you don't need it. Anyone worth their literary salt with basic grammar skills can use what's available on their keyboard alone. Just look at Animorphs. Speaking through telepathy? Replace "" with <>. Simple.
Inner monologue? Italics. Shouting? Bold or Underline. Reading a text excerpt? Italits and maybe bold. It's not that hard. Anything else is you just wanting it to look purrdy. The fact the URL or IMG codes are present is merely an extension of the fact that some stories and books contain maps, just look at Tolkien. These aren't comics, they're text posts. Use your words like a big boy.

This place is fine. If you really prefer Iwaku so much, the Logout button is in the top right-hand corner. No one here is stopping you.

The Guild today isn't much different than it's ever been.

- It's always had performance issues. From 2009 to 2011 it was even down for a couple hours each day for a reason I never figured out. It only ended because I got a job and could afford to migrate the Guild to a better server.
- There's always been a long list of bugs to fix and features to implement on the to-do list. After the great Guildfall of December 2013 when everything was deleted, I took a month off to build the Guild from scratch but I ran out of time (money) and we're left with the most buggy and feature-weak implementation of the Guild to date. But I was able to implement some cute features like multi-user PMs and IC/OOC roleplay tabs. And the Guild now fits on a server that costs half of what I was paying when it was running on vBulletin.
- It's always been hard for me to scavenge free-time to work on the Guild. I haven't spent much time here since I was seventeen and invested the first year trying to bootstrap the community into something more than me and my two friends talking to ourselves. Maybe I blew the entire free-time budget that year. I'm twenty-six now.
- People have always been "migrating somewhere else", and the Guild has always been "on the brink of death" and "not like it once was".

Yet, here we are.

The reality is that those things don't really matter that much. We just deal with them in the same stride we deal with stop lights and breakups and cold days when we forget our mittens.

What does matter is that there is a vibrant long-standing community here that transcends QQCode, taxi-cab yellow, and catastrophic data loss.

I personally really enjoy the tabs for IC/OOC. The site is perfect for what we need. :)

We have all of those with the exception of jump in. (But i prefer making CS' anyways). yes they are not specifed but who cares. But if Iwaku is so great why'd you come back? If you came back to try to convince people, obviously your lonely over there. If you came over to troll or advertise then your still in the wrong. Either way your point is moot.

Come back? People arguing for or against who are still here never really left, for the most part, they just double up on both websites at their own leisure until they either sway in one direction . Don't get all mad because i pointed out that Iwaku isn't all smut/ pron site , nor is RPG. If someone said "Oh RPG smuts", i'd also tell them we have other stuff there. If you didn't want to see people discussing iwaku or wanting to stay out of illlegal trouble, why'd you come to this thread o_o?

Basically nothings changing which is what mahz has told us.

Nothings going to be done. No communication but "Oh yeah I'm here"

Well, I guess this served a purpose.

We got Mahz to finally give us closure I guess. I guess it'll please some of the community who already didn't care, and for those who did oh well. Don't expect anything to happen.

People have always complained about change and innovation. (Civilization Beyond Earth, or the WiiU, various other things.) but they also complain if the Sequel is the same (CoD, other things.) So, stop complaining, and just RP. you can quit for all I care. Won't effect my life.

Mahz didn't promise anything. He didn't say, "I'm going to do nothing."

Mahz said - It's always been hard for me to scavenge free-time to work on the Guild. He's not saying he's abandoned RPG. he's not saying he's quit working. Mahz is matter-of-factly saying that he just has a difficult time finding the resources to work on the Guild. He isn't always working on RPG, like literally everyone with a life. He didn't say that 'nothing is changing,' he said nothing has changed. There's still work being done to maintain the Guild. Even the header of the front page says it:

Mahz said I'm aware of the Guild's issues right now. I'm working on it.

This was updated recently. He's fixing issues and problems. There are planned changes to the Guild that Mahz is actively working on whenever he can make the time to work on them. Stop trying to hijack the discussion and say "oh see I told you so even Mahz agrees" when he didn't say or support any of your claims.

Mahz said - People have always been "migrating somewhere else", and the Guild has always been "on the brink of death" and "not like it once was".

The reality is that those things don't really matter that much. We just deal with them in the same stride we deal with stop lights and breakups and cold days when we forget our mittens.

Thinking about this, the analogy is actually pretty good. Stop lights always change from red to green. People break up and get together. The next day we remember to bring our mittens. Change is inevitable. We are never finished. Maybe it's slow and unnoticed, but it's there and it happens whether we disregard it or not. People have always been saying the Guild is in a state of decline, but has it really? No. It's been the same as far as activity and membership goes. Features have changed. The overall appearance is (slowly) changing. Stop using absolutes as if they strengthen your point.

ThatOneGuy said Don't expect anything to happen.

And yet, things still happen. You're a moron for thinking you could argue your 'point' with any sort of sound logic. Everyone's disproved you so far, and you haven't fought it.

There is some wonderment why the mods didn't just step in and shut this convo down; that answer is simple. We didn't see anything rules-violating with the conversation and also figured (rightly) that some people probably wanted us to do precisely that so they could chant 'fascist!' I mean, I suppose we could come off as petty tyrant dicks and just close down a conversation that is, at times, critical, but that would be, in my mind, counterproductive. We all have a stake in this community, and feedback is a good thing. We'd be delusional to think we're doing the job perfectly around here and there aren't things we can change. Discouraging that sort of talk is essentially a shot to the foot.

So we didn't shut down the topic and it's doubtful we will, because it's good to see people that feel strongly on an issue. Besides, I have something to add to the fray, but I've been holding off on writing it until I could phrase it in a way that I felt okay with, rather than just venting on a keyboard.

Personally, I've been around since 2009, and people keep saying that the Guild is slipping, the Guild is going down the tubes -- they were doing that in 2009, as a matter of fact. Hell, at one point in late 2009, I went to another community and stayed there for about nine months before I came -back- to the Guild sometime in mid-2010 after that community went sideways. I also sit in the IRC, the Chat, where there are some people with accounts since 2008 still hanging around in there, and so in a sense, I've heard the comments before -- the place isn't what it used to be, it's in decline, so on and so forth.

Well, part of that is certainly true -- it's not what it used to be because some of the people are older, the ones that stuck around, and new people have arrived on the scene. We've flipped over staff a few times and mistakes were made, as were attempts to rectify those mistakes. We managed to make it through Guildfall on a shitty interim website that kept the community mostly together long enough for mahz to cobble together something in relatively quick time -- seeing as he was making his own software for the site in pretty record time here. We were getting a lot of that 'the Guild is dead' stuff then, too. Some of you remember those conversations, of course.

If there was a time for the Guild to go down the tubes, that was most certainly it. I don't think the site is actually going down. And if we do face problems, they are not on the magnitude of what we faced almost a year ago. And if I might be so bold to suggest it, the people leaving are probably doing so of their own accord, not because they are being driven off. If they find something better elsewhere, more power to 'em, but just because they're fed up for whatever reason they're fed up doesn't mean that the Guild itself is in danger of dying out.

Of course, that's not an excuse for any of the rest of the stuff that needs doing. Some of it is software, and that means it's mahz's ball. Some of it included gems of suggestions like "we need greeters" and perhaps more exasperating suggestions like, "We need to be kept in the loop" despite the rate of non-participation in the RPGN where we let anyone that wants to take a shot at it take a shot.

(RPGN Update: I intend to get something going this weekend, but I've been out of it for the last couple weeks with a bilateral pulmonary embolism. You know, hospitalization, treatment for life threatening problem, aftermath of paperwork and insurance forms. We're always looking for volunteers-- I'm serious, it's like three of us doing it month after month. We cut it down to a monthly thing because the two week cycle was onerous given that it was three people.)

One of the more serious accusations leveled is that we don't care about under-aged erotic RP -- it's actually something we do care about deeply, but if we don't hear about it, we have a hard time tracking it down. It's not sanctioned on this site, and we will do something about it if caught. Beyond that, the 'this site smuts more than the other site' business is silly -- Iwaku and the Guild may have differing policies on the smut, but the reality is that the smut will happen and we merely wish it to be kept in PM because we are trying to keep a site funded here. mahz mentioned the money thing, right? Well, now I'm mentioning it.

I'm not sure what else to say. Does it sound trite to say that I actually think a loud, tumultuous conversation about the Guild's future is actually a good thing? I believe it is -- this place has problems because it's still kicking, and the arguments and disputes are a sign of health in the Alexis de Tocqueville sense. Those that are leaving are bid adieu, but based on my experience I also like to add "you are welcome back anytime you want to come back" rather than a "Hey, well fuck you and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out." I'll still be here, plugging away. I'm here to RP, after all. I'm glad people are sticking with this, but if you are one of the people heading out, let me wish you luck.

I thought you were genuinely asking the question 'Is RP guild dying'. Turns out this whole thread has degenerated into a slagging match where one side demands updates and fixes and the other side - myself included, looking back - defends ceaselessly.

So, I'm going to sum this whole thing up: You don't like it? Leave. Too impatient to wait for updates? See ya. Want to bitch on a bout how the guild sucks and we should all leave and join Iwaku rather than sit it out? Please bugger off.

All comments after this are redundant. Every point to be argued has been argued, No, the Guild is not dying, it is going through a slump. Yes, there are other sites with more features. No, I really couldn't care less about them. Can we please put this issue to bed?
