Its still pretty hard to figure out how the combat works With the stats and all.
If you'd like, think of it as a general comparison rather than a math problem; If A has more attack than B has defense, he probably hits him fairly hard. If C has more Evasion than D has accuracy, then it's more likely he'll miss. All it's really for is to give people an extra reason that they can't just dodge everything or hit everything easily. I find it's less limiting than making some absolute rule, but more fair than free reign, cause then somebody might just say "I jump on the monster's back and slit it's throat!" and that's not a very fun fight.
