Video Gadgeteer Q4 Fall, 1990 HQs: Medicine Hat, Alberta (CA/US) $74,352,500 (was $48,825,000) ((We've reached the time period I was born in! \(^_^)/ )) --- EXECUTE announced! A strange new game for PC has been announced by Video Gadgeteer. You play as a hacker in the vein of certain movies over the past decade, breaking into banks, government databases and other computers connected to the ARPANET to steal money and information using dedicated programs and typing skills. Servers will attempt to back-trace you, so you have limited time to get in and get out. All the while, your internet connection is racking up bills which you have to pay with your ill-gotten gains. If you're successful enough, you can buy better components and programs or even a whole new computer to boost your capabilities. (Like this but 8-bit) Video Gadgeteer made a statement that the "hacking" in the game is merely a simulation of "movie hacking" and that players would not be able to learn how to commit real computer crime by playing. The game will be available on PC next summer. --- Game Pocket devkits reduced in price! Video Gadgeteer has reduced the price of the Game Pocket devkit to $500,000 in the hopes of attracting more developers to the console. "We are glad that our friendly rivals at Draconic Sudios are supporting our console, but we would like to attract a larger portion of the gaming industry to our platform." said Lead Developer Oliver Zehn. Rumors are that the price drop was prompted by the impending release of the Game Machine and talk in the industry of a Goliath Entertainment console. --- A package arrives for the gang of criminals... (They open it up to find stacks of money and a note.) Here is your payment. They look at the money and see the face of "The Father" from Neopolis on the bills. A beeping sound is heard inside the box. They open it to find a military surplus tracking device. Suddenly police and the national guard burst through the doors and surround them. "Hands up! You're under arrest!" --- A letter arrives at Draconic Studios... To whom it may concern, Video Gadgeteer feels it has sufficient legal right to order the cease-and-desist of Ojada, the Monster Summoner immediately. You have 3 months to forward this letter to your legal counsel and comply. ~ Bright & Sunnay Law Offices

Pixel Power Magazine Q4 1990 A World Without Heroes - 8.5 Ojada, the Monster Summoner - 6.0 --- It seems Video Gadgeteer is getting even with Draconic Studios over Fractalspace. Inside reports say a cease-and-desist has been sent to Draconic Studios, telling them that Ojada, the Monster Summoner is a violation of their copyright on Eccojari. Will the charges stick? We shall see. In the meantime, Video Gadgeteer has issued a statement. "While we appreciate them choosing to release Ojada on our console, we feel it is too similar to our own IP, and combined with being on our platform, we believe we have precedent to press changes if they do not halt production and sales of the game."

Goliath Entertainment Q4 Fall, 1990 HQs: Los Angeles, California (US/CA) $INFINITE ((NPC post, people! This is so Video Gadgeteer has competition.)) --- Big Box, Puppy Pug Racing and Super Mariachi World announced! Goliath's new 16-bit console is launching with two titles next summer. Super Mariachi World is the sequel to the critically-panned but financially successful Super Mariachi Sisters 3 for the PC. Puppy Pug Racing is a new "kart racing" game using their long-dormant Puppy Pug intellectual property. Both games will retail for $65 and will not be bundled with the Big Box. The console itself will cost $350. Advertizing is already seeping through the cracks well before release, but the flood of propaganda isn't expected to arrive until early next year.

Draconic Studios Q4 Fall, 1990 HQs: Atlanta, Georgia (US/CA) $20,600,000 --- A package arrives at Video Gadgeteer's headquarters Mr Zehn, I am disappointed that you think Ojada, The Monster Summoner is too similar to Eccojari, inside this package is a copy of Ojada, the Monster Summoner, monsters die unless caught permanently which need to be caught a certain number of and complete special requirements to get that monster. I hope to keep this game on the market. From, Alexander Chaser, CEO & Head Developer of Draconic Studios --- GM Event (@SimYouLater) The Criminals are apprehended, but not before one of them seems to press a button on their keyboard before being shot on sight. A virus has infiltrated Video Gadgeteer's computers, it has corrupted most of the data of EXECUTE and thus will take ONE extra quarter year to develop. (must be released on Q3 1991 at least) ---

Video Gadgeteer Q1 Winter, 1991 HQs: Medicine Hat, Alberta (CA/US) $2,552,500 (was $74,352,500) (("Welcome to the 90's, Stace! Word is out, image is in." ~ Bradley, Stickin' Around)) --- EXECUTE delayed! In an ironic twist, Video Gadgeteer's hollywood hacking simulator EXECUTE has been delayed due to the loss of several MB of data caused by a group of real hackers. Video Gadgeteer had this to say: "No, the irony is not lost on us. In all honesty, gamers should take a lesson from this; real unauthorized hacking can hurt people, including the hacker." --- Pzzl released! Video Gadgeteer presents... Pzzl Topic: Abstract Shapes Genre: Casual (Puzzle) Price: $30 Platforms: Game Pocket Audience: Rated E for Everyone Languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Swedish, Icelandic, Japanese, Gaelic Markets: North America, Japan, Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand - Crisp black-and-green graphics - Place the shapes on the playing field before time is up, but watch out or you'll run out of room! - Perfect for wasting time at the doctor's office or recess! - A unique soundtrack! - Mono Sound - Compete against your friends and co-workers using the Game Pocket's infrared link! Race to place your blocks faster, the slower player loses! Plot: Pzzl doesn't actually have a plot, per-se, but it is a surprisingly fun time-waster and requires both coordination and a sharp mind. A few weeks in, Galvin spills oil on a control panel, and the machine goes haywire, opening a portal to another dimension and sucking him into it! Now he'll have to find his way back home, but to do that he'll need a device that can open a portal to his universe on command...
(-$100,000 for developing and -$800,000 for publishing Gadgeteer Kitten 2) (-$40,000,000 for developing Game Pocket console) --- Highway Robbery marketed! Extreme controversy! Video Gadgeteer's crime-focused action game Highway Robbery has been advertized in the United States and Canada, even sponsoring the yearly drag races held by the makers of trendy "glowing sweat" sports drink/carbonated beverage 3st Place ("Thirst Place"). Not all of the attention has been positive. Previews of the game unashamedly showed the player character shooting police, driving over civilians and jaywalking. Prominent political figures like Jake Stevenson are calling the game a "murder simulator" and demanding it be banned from releasing to market. The government is reluctant to step in, fearing Video Gadgeteer will attempt to solidify video games as a form of free speech if a court battle comes to fruition. ($10,000,000 for mega ad campaign) --- Horsepower marketed! Video Gadgeteer's street racing game has appeared on TV and billboards throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and various European nations. The ads are custom-tailored; ads in North America feature such vehicles as the Michigan Motor Corporation's Rumbler 4x4 truck and Scorpio sports car, while ads in the UK feature the classic Oncilla O-Type and X-CS grand tourers, ads in Japan feature a highly-modified Yamato Coral hatchback resembling a car from the anime "Racer D", and ads in Europe are more varied but include the Aütomobil Nova compact car and the Countess sports car. Rumor has it that one lucky purchaser of Horsepower will win a real car of their choice from the models seen in the game! ($20,000,000 for 4 large ad campaigns) --- A letter arrives at Draconic Studios... To whom it may concern, It has come to our attention and to the attention of Video Gadgeteer that your game Ojada, the Monster Summoner is still being sold in several markets. In fact, it looks like you have not made any effort at all to comply with our cease-and-desist. We will see you in court this spring. (We already did a coin flip. Dark Solar Studios Q1 Winter, 1991 HQs: Hannover, Germany (DE) $0 (was 4,000,000) --- Dark Solar Studios presents..... Rule of Nations Genre: Strategy, 4X Topic: Nation ruling, war, diplomacy Audience: E11+ Price: $35 Regions: US/CA, EU, UK/IE, Oceania Languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Serbian, Portuguese, Welsh, Irish, Russian Platform: PC Features -Beautiful 16-bit Graphics -High quality Stereo Sound -Hex grid for movement -Special Diplomacy system -No set story -Choose Earth's destiny as one of its leaders -Endless hours of game-play, each time different -Room for two save files -Local multiplayer for up to 4 people on one computer -Diverse technology tree and unit/building list -24 countries from which to choose -Up to 6 factions in one game Plot Rule of Nations has no specific plot which one can accomplish, much like in War of the Ancients. Instead, the player plays as the leader of one of the available 24 nations which are provided. They then attempt to become the 'winner' by achieving one of several ends. End 1: Conquest Victory- As simple as it says, conquer all other factions in the game End 2: Wonder Victory- After reaching the end of the tech-tree, you can build a wonder. The wonders require 3 pieces to build and as such can be denied. End 3: Leadership Victory- Become the undisputed leader of the world by completing sufficient missions without losing to others. Must be in good standing with the other factions for this to happen and only in an AI-only game. Diplomacy System Throughout the course of the game, you shall be presented with missions or policy decisions by the leaders of other factions. Both will influence your standing with other nations through the Diplomacy system. A higher rating with another faction makes them less likely to attack you and provide support in various manners. A low rating does the opposite. -$800,000 in publishing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Eden Initiative Marketed The Eden Initiative, Dark Solar Studio's upcoming game, has been marketed in a campaign of a size never seen before! In various regions of the world, extensive newspaper and magazine ads, game demos, and exclusive reviews and interviews are underway, exposing many to the existence of the game. The setting appears to be some time in the future, people utilizing technologies undreamed of in the current age. Although the main character has not been revealed in the demos except for a shadowy, cloaked figure, we have been provided with various characters and ships which will be included in the game. -$7,500,000 Medium Campaigns in US/CA, EU, and UK/IE In addition to the massive campaign undertaken on the advertisement front, Dark Solar has decided to release its first ever merchandise! Though lacking a bit in refinement and accuracy to form, the plastic models come in various positions, depicting various supporting characters and vehicles from the game. Although most are static, several feature changeable stances or parts, allowing for customization. -$500,000 Cheap Toy Merchandise in EU (+12.5% money boost) Complementing the models being distributed in the EU, official posters from the game are being given away in the US/CA and UK/IE. Many clamor for these pieces and trade for them is fierce, many desiring to acquire the posters. All feature characters or scenes from the game, all of which will hopefully become recognizable and worthy of reminiscence as time passes. -$200,000 Poster Merchandise x 2 (+10,000 unit sales) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A letter arrives at Niger Aprince's Home Dear Mr. Aprince, We thank you for your offer. After considering the proposal, Dark Solar Studios has decided to agree to the investment. We have wired $1 million to the account and await to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Amand Becker, Co-President of Dark Solar Studios -$1,000,000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Amand, you bastard, you lost all of our damn money! What the hell are we supposed to do without anything!?" rings out through the studio, all looking as one of Amand's friends, Peter, berates him. "Calm down Peter, calm down. It's all under control. We'll get our money back with this venture, trust me. Rule of Nations and the further sales of Legend will see us through this quarter. Trust me." "You better be right. If not, well... You just made homeless men out of us all." The door slams as Peter walks out, leaving Amand to brood. (Yay zero cash! The number will end up being strange for the income on Eden so just round it when we get there)

Winter Q1 1991 GM --- GM Event for @Durandal Niger Aprince seems to have been a scammer, you lost that money forever, hey, at least you're not bankrupt! (Bankrupcy happens when you have no games on the market and reach -$100k you will be given loans that you have to pay off at the end of the year known as Mini Credits or Mega Credits...be careful!) --- GM Event for @NoobCW Someone has spray painted ALL of Ortus' HQ that says 'WE ARE WATCHING" perhaps a punk or a criminal? Doesn't matter, it'll take $100k to get the HQ cleaned up to what it used to be. Alternatively you can get your employees to clean it and pay a cheaper price but it's not guranteed that they'll fix the building.

After a 3-month hiatus, EXECUTE has finally appeared in magazine ads in Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and most of Europe. The ads feature the mysterious tagline "Who controls the computer?" displayed on a computer command line (most likely MicroDyne's CLOS, or "Command Line Operating System" for the computer geeks). ($1,000,000 for 4 mini ad campaigns (North America, Europe, United Kingdom and Oceania).) --- Highway Robbery released! Video Gadgeteer presents... Highway Robbery Topic: Crime Genre: Action/Simulation (Open World) Price: $50 Platforms: Game Machine Audience: Rated M for Mature Languages: English, Spanish, French Markets: North America - State-of-the-Art 16-bit Graphics! - Make your living as a car thief in the dark underbelly of Orchard City and the surrounding Midwest county of Appleseed! - Buy up to 3 personal vehicles! - A radio when inside vehicles! - Decorate your hideout with snazzy exotic furniture like a jacuzzi, a minibar, an entertainment center, sex dungeon toys and a shark tank! Regardless, Video Gadgeteer has stated in the manual that the game is meant to be a "stress reliever" rather than a "murder simulator", and says "have fun, because you'd never get away with this in real life and you shouldn't try to". What is known is that the character has connections to illegal car exporters, allowing him to jack cars or steal them from parking spots and take them to be crushed, scrapped or (if expensive enough) exported.
