And I completely forgot about Spamentines.

Jero and I have decided to just spend the day together and go out to eat. And going out to eat will include McDonald's Dollar Menu.

But we don't even have to do that. I am waiting for his Birthday (the 9th of March) to get him everything he wants. Including some money to get him a new gfx card. The one he wants is like $700 and I'm like, "Damn, that's a lot of money for a piece of metal."

AND, I still haven't found an appropriate recipe for a stupid peanut butter cake. T.T

Why not move Spamentines to Spring Break? Usually a two week period in mid March, that way the college/high school kids would have time to work on it if they wished to participate?

I have a peanut butter cupcake recipe, Squee. Not sure how it will measure in cake pans though.

Excellent idea. I like it. :3

Also, gimme that recipe! That might be better than a cake cake, since I don't really want his family getting a hold of it. D:

I'll always treasure the memory of the first Valentine's I spent with my husband (my bf at the time) he went all out. Rose petals, candles, big hotel suite with a hot tub, champagne, dinner at a fancy restaurant. He had our song playing when he brought me to the room, it was utterly romantic and took my breath away. I told him he was good for the next ten years. So next year, he's got to plan something huge.

Eh, not really the case. I've always thought it was a cynical bullshit day that accomplishes little more than to pressure guys not to fuck up spoiling their girlfriends and spending large amounts of money on horribly marked up shit that's largely disposable or outright unnecessary because modern Western society decided we should eat the shit out of marketing ploys because apparently it's the day of the year you are supposed to pull out all stops to try and impress somebody in the exact same fashion as millions of other people. There is nothing romantic or meaningful about any of it.

Know what day I can use to pamper my girl and show her undying devotion and love? Any fucking other day of the year. Or better yet, anniversary., when it means marking a milestone.

Just because some suits say we should all follow their bullshit expectations doesn't mean we have to.

I agree with this. Jero and I just use it as an excuse to spend the day together. Nothing really more than that. He got me chocolate for our very first V-Day... and I didn't get it until June. Lol. Other than hanging out, we don't do anything. Except MickyD's

I always associate Valentines Day with the failure of the first time asking out my now girlfriend.

Recipe sent, Squee. I think he'll like it.

So how many of you are going to the anti-Valentine's day stuff so many bars have?

I can agree with some of those points, though only people that don't truly understand the meaning of dedicating a day to your loved one will go "all out" and "spend a fuck ton of money" to "impress some girl." For some that are too busy to always take time out to appreciate their SO, v-day is a good excuse for things to slow down and get with the atmosphere.

Not to mention, I think strip clubs have vday specials that hubby and I can take advantage of. Just sayin'.

See, that's something I can totally agree with doing, I was going to actually compliment you on your tasteful dinner date of some McNuggets lol. I think it's a good excuse for date night, but it's the commercial trappings that I take issue with. Like anything, there's always exceptions, like my friend who does pixel art with beads, he made his girlfriend a Mario fire flower one year. And unlike a real flower, that one's still hanging up. :)

Largely ties in with my reply to Squee, but I agree with you. Nothing wrong with just enjoying the day with your SO or date and just enjoying each other's company

Continued, because my cell phone hates me and keeps jumping up paragraphs on its own instead of letting me finish what I was writing:

It kind of like any other holiday in the sense that it is what you make it. Nobody should feel pressured to have to worry about spending enough money to make somebody happy. If you genuinely enjoy that kind of stuff, then by all means, but it should never become something that's an obligation thst is legitimately stressful and uneconomical.

Anything can be taken to extremes, like the people that break their budgets on Christmas and are scrambling to pay their rent by getting loans to cover their bills. Christmas is the time to give but not if it means going broke. Same with Valentines, it's a time to show your SO you love them and you appreciate them. Doesn't mean it's the only day you do this but it's just a reminder, as soba said, to slow down and remember them. I would take a poem or song over a pair of diamond earrings anyday.
