It was obvious that there were hardly any former military officers on board aside from Rayland himself and a few other individuals whom operated on Jump Drive rigged vessels before and thus were seemingly immune to the influential psychological effects of warping through space and time instantly that impacted the body. Of course the potency of the effects and how long they would last was completely up to the individual whom perceived the visual experience of being stretched several hundred light years across the galaxy; clearly there were already a few people had recovered completely and began to go about their business as normal. The others however clearly needed more time, especially those whom never even traveled through slipspace before while awake. Luckily for them Sel had voiced over the comms that she would readily help treat anyone feeling ill.

Rayland examined the operational report on his terminal and begun looking over the recent events. All three carriers and their respective task groups had initiated a interstellar jump all at once in same area of space. Falymar Station had since closed down slipspace travel in that particular region due to the gravitational influx created by the mass jump and had begun sending pings to inbound vessels to relocate their exit vectors in unaffected space until the disruptions had settled. Though the entire expeditionary force had jumped as one unit, each carrier group had dispersed into different routes towards their intended target systems, travelling though slipspace to ease their approach. The reported detailed an ETA of roughly 3 hours until the force reaches its destination; right on schedule.

Figuring that crew would need to be briefed on the operation eventually, he routed the mission data from the meeting from earlier to the ship Briefing room; a central facility of the Infamous Alto that had remained inaccessible for quite awhile, only seeing legitimate use during important conferences and new crew orientations. The latter seemed necessary, it was only a temporary post; basically the same job the Alto signed on to. Rayland anticipated that if the mission went well, he and his crew would be handsomely and everyone whom joined up on this operation would be on their merry way. Assuming of course if they don't get shot up or become a grotesque space whale’s lunch.

Rayland rose from his seat unfazed from jump and stretched his limb before making his way off the bridge. "Towan, watch the bridge for me. I'm going to go ahead and do my rounds, make sure everyone is feeling okay...Oh and get everyone organized for a mandatory meeting in the Briefing room in thirty."

“Understood Captain Rayland Sul’tari, assuming temporary post.” replied Towan as Rayland made his way off the bridge. “All crewman; a mandatory meeting concerning the current operation in-progress has been scheduled in the Briefing room in thirty minutes. Guide lights for the Briefing room have been lit for new members for their convenience.”

Just before Rayland could approach and exit through the bridge doors, his eyes caught an unfamiliar face…which was oddly concealed by large plated helmet…Which was additionally odd to wear in doors, along with underslung rifle. Since he did not recognize this individual, he naturally assumed they had came in along with the rest of the new personnel. Ultimately since he only had a crew manifest with names without an associable portrait, he changed his vector and approached the man instead, activating the holo-tool on his wrist so he could identify who this masked and armed fellow was.

“Greetings and salutations good sir. I assume you’re one of the newcomers I take it?“ Rayland didn't wait for an answer just as the crew manifest loaded on the wrist projector. ”And you are…?”

Jack looked at the man that was fast approaching him and was already sizing him up. Guy looked like he had been through literal storms of bullets and came out with more than a few scratches. Big, gruff, and tough. He seemed like he was, or at least used to be, the pride of the AISC. Considering the quality of the ship he was in, the guy had earned everything that he owned and more. There was a sense of pride in his step, of power, strength...maybe even cunning considering the look in his eye. He had a dominating look about him, as should be standard for a captain of a ship commanding so many individuals. He stopped and spoke to him, his voice was gruff but matched his analysis of him perfectly. He nearly swung his hand into the captain's and gripped it firm. As was customary, he tried to break the captain's hand with the handshake in a show of strength and valor. The captain did not disappoint him.

"Jack Harquin. A pleasure, Captain Sul'tari. I have been assigned to this mission, yes. Unlike many of the other members of your rather luxurious vessel, I have not been given a position in the maintenance of her, so I figured I would take up guard duty for the moment until we reach the destination."

He let go of the Captain's hand and crossed his arms for but a moment before he pointed a thumb at his weapons. "Oh, and don't worry. They're mag locked."

Sel got her tools ready once again back at the lab, after all she expected at least a few people to come complaining that they were sick, and as it turned out she was right on the money as one of the crew came on through into the lab. "Welcome, please, take a seat and tell me what is the matter." Head chest or stomach normally had different treatments, much better than just stuffing people full of pills like most auto-docs that she had seen on the streets. Removing her helmet she waited for a answer to her question.

Achieng smiled weakly. "Yes, thank you..." She was already seated, but she figured it was a gesture of welcome rather than a direct command. She really needed to read up on idioms again. "Since the jump, my head is telling me that the world is moving in circles. I do not like it at all. Can you please make it stop?"

Rayland was quick to analyze Jack’s growing posture and his lead-in to the formal handshake between them as he introduced himself. From the hard pressure of the hand that gripped his own and strong professional tone Jake spoke in, Rayland could theorize much about the newcomer as he applied his own ample strength into the friendly conjoining of hands in equal respect. Rayland surmised that this man must have seen plenty of action plenty of time and had the scars to prove it in that regard.

“Likewise Jack…” said Rayland has he matched the man’s name with the manifest. “For the time being I agree that you would best suited applying your skills as a guard. However I don’t anticipate anyone getting unruly, unless of course someone takes the mission the wrong way at the bar on Section D Eight.”

After his meaty hands departed from the handshake, Rayland observed Jack’s mention about his firearms being safely locked to his armor and how they would not be of any threat to anyone. While it was always good that nobody would be firing a weapon on his ship for any reason, Rayland however was more interested in Jack’s armored helm which going by the many scrapes and dents has seen its fair share of trouble. While there was nothing overly appealing about that, it was the need to associate a face to the name rather than a helmet that explained his gaze.

“Excellent though I hope that your helm isn’t mag locked either.” he began “I must ask if you regularly wear that thing indoors all the time.”

Moving up towards Achieng, Sel reached out to her head though it was a little forceful she was a professional. She attempted to grab a hold of it and turn her face in differing directions, even using her 'thumb' on the girls eyebrow to check out her eyes. Nodding a few times she clicked the exoskeleton that made up her lips. "Simple enough, just some slip space lag form what I can see. Chemical imbalance caused due to your mind not being able to process what is happening fast enough. All we have to do is balance it out." Turning around she looked through her bag but moved onto the draws. "You can pick either a faster acting shot, or some pills. You will be better either way." Most people did not really like shots so she always asked.

Adi watched as everyone went on their way, some still getting over the jump. Organics were such fascinating beings indeed. Then again, it even rattled its synthetic body so it supposed it shouldn't question it too strongly. As Towan announced the mandatory meeting in thirty minutes to discuss the mission on hand, the android immiedietly started to the designated meeting place. Adi didn't really have many other reason not to go immiedietly. It was not given any other orders.

Yet Adi halted as he reached the Captain and another man. As the walking organic like machine examined the two before slightly bowing briefly. "Greetings Jack Harquin. I am ADI Mark V. If you need any assistance, I'll do the best of my capabilities to assist." he greeted in his regular neutral voice as he stood straight again and looked at the two larger individuals.

Kaite loomed in the doorway, his fingers twitching from the notes he was taking. People came and went until the line waned down to Achieng and himself. He had made a point to be last; his question was...unique, or at least he thought this. As he waited, listening to the rigmarole and their concerns, he counted nametags. Truly, it was unfair, standing outside with an ear at the ready.

~~~~~
People have problems. I'm not...no, I just want to hear if anyone could be a threat. That is why I am in the back of the line.
Achieng was before me, getting some kind of..who knows ...bruegheuegh
...Fancy I should know what I'm walking into, simple perceptions not really being enough.
Still, I was curious what Sel knew...maybe what happened to me is a thing, or something.
Making up your own mind is the worst part of anything. At least, with a plan, you know what to do next. This, however, was just me waiting at the end of the line after compiling notes on what I heard. I never visited Sel's clinic, I'm not sure how she treats crazies...
...With that though, I consider simply leaving before she knew I was here. A profound notion carried this thought.
Achieng tried not to flinch at being touched. It wasn't something she was used to from anyone. She was slightly relieved when the doctor stopped, and she watched patiently as the woman dug around for medicines.
"No shots, please. I was told that I am not to have any sort of liquid medication at all. It does not... do well with my race. Something about liquid having a much more rapid effect on my physique than anything else. You would have to dose the shot to one of a child." She felt as if she was rambling, and so stopped herself. "The pill is fine, Doctor."
Sel made a few clicking sounds with her mouth as she looked for the right medication, almost like a rattle snake about to strike, though really it was just a Vexi thing that was akin to whistling. Opening one of the draws she looked over the thousands of pills that were presented to her by a rotating compartment, to be expected on a ship that may not often get to pick such things up, before she picked up the right ones and placed them into a small pill bottle.
"Take one or two when you start feeling bad, these will work with your biology. Can not really give you a real item frame but hopefully you will be feeling like yourself by tomorrow."
After handing over the pills Sel sent over to sterilize her hands, speaking over her shoulder "Unless you have anything else? I have others I have to see." She walked back to the center of the room so she could look out the door and gesture to Kaite to come inside. She was not the type to wait around and as long as you were fit and not dying she had to take care of other minor problems.
Achieng understood that she was being dismissed, and she smiled politely. "Yes, doctor. Thank you very much." She tucked the pill bottle into a small holding tray on her tank. Inclining her head, she whirred out the door. Kaite was waiting outside; he looked haggard. She did not look for long. Even though she was certain, something about his posture said more to her than just illness. He seemed worn out from within, like he wanted to take flight of his body all together...
Pulling herself out of her own musings, she smiled politely to him as she moved by. "I hope you feel well soon, Mr. Kaite." She knew that what she had seen was no illusion. It was her duty to seek people in pain, and her honor to help them find a way out of it. She would have to get her own office set up soon.
With her tank whirring down the hall, she headed to find the mess hall. She needed to take the pill as soon as possible.
While I waited, I had thought about writing something else in the journal, but forgot what it was. It was probably more exposition of some sort, but I wasn't feeling it, it was hard to focus while I waited.
Achieng came out and our eyes met, probably longer than they should. The softness within the topaz ripples worked at something I hadn't expected, like her eyes pushed right into mine. I wasn't sure if I liked it...
"Ah, jeh..." I mused with a nod, watching her tank whir off down the hall. The line had thinned down to a few mingling around outside, complaining amongst themselves about 'the glory of technology and its inability to make 'seatbelts' for slipspace. Something to that effect, at least.
~~~

Kaite stepped into the room, remaining silent until Sel had settled and the door had closed. "You've had experience vith slip-sickness?" he asked, trying out a term he was thinking of for what people had. His assumption was based on Sel's rediness to help the crew. It more of a rhetorical question with that in mind, setting the stage for his next question, "Vaht vould be zeh vorst of symptoms zeht you've seen?"
If it turned out that memory loss and hallucinations were an occurrence, he'd probably just leave it at that.

Sel was just placing away a few bandages, being that the last person to see her before Kaite did not know that being seated during slip space may have been a good idea and so had a rather nasty bump on his head that she had to make stop bleeding. Humans were so squishy compared to her exoskeleton. Peering back she saw she had a final person to treat, and after closing the door she right away looked him over to see if there was any clear signs of harm. She did not answer the first question, after all that was clear but the second confused her a little. "Well the worse of it that I have seen has to have been some concussion that is all, even that is from bumping into things. All in all slip space is safe. Why do you ask? Did something odd happen?"

"N-no, not really..." he started, one of his ears turning slightly as he took off his glasses, turning them off as he cleaned the lenses. It was off the record, or at least any record he was keeping. "Has anyvone evaer come to you vith a concern about memory loss...today?" The question went, Kaite poorly catching himself on the end to try and make it seem more like an investigation of sorts...hopefully with an assumed misunderstanding with English? Frankly, the jump to cloak and dagger was unexpected since he had resolved himself to being up front about it while he was waiting. Cursing himself, he decided to commit.
"I vahzn't aware zeht it vahz a possibility~" Kaite added in a musing tone, hoping to work an answer out of Sel while pacing a few steps, doing careful work in cleaning the wired glass lenses. At a point, he held them up to check for smudges, the reflection of the glow from his eyes catching in small glints as he continued to comment, "At least not on zeis ship."

Sel stopped for a moment, it may not have been direct but she was far from dumb enough to believe that he was just asking out of concern, more so with how he was moving around like.. Well like a nervous rabbit. "I heard once of the very first slip space ships complaining of ghost noises, old crew tales and so on.. Though no, I don't think anyone had ever just lost their memory with just a jump before." She waited for a few moments, wondering just when to ask but as always she was blunt and right to the point "So, when did it happen and what don't you remember?" If she was wrong she would be corrected, and if not then they would get to the bottom of it, but either way she needed him to be honest with her and that was the tricky part here.

I wasn't surprised that Sel had seen right through me. Lying was hardly my strongsuit; I had gotten decent at perverting the truth back when I first started, but it wasn't quite the same thing. With a sigh, I resort to plan A, sheathing an arm of the glasses in my chest pocket.
~~~
"It happened at zeh jump...or at least I think?" Kaite explained in a mild defeated tone, expressing their disappointment in the lie. "I estimate about five to ten minutes lost wherein I managed to get from the bridge to my room" the elaboration went, his tone growing formal as if it was part of the job. His behavior could be considered strange, nervous one moment and almost inappropriately collected at another. It was a defense mechanism in a way, responding to stress with a deep breath and stepping away from himself to apply logic to his situation. It had helped, considerably, in his earlier days since it was hard to get things done while fighting off the adrenaline from new-job stress.
I didn't mention the change of clothes...and ruining Rodger's face...and having an awkward conversation with what I am now convinced had been my washing machine during...whatever it was.
He stifled a small laugh, "I vouldn't suppose anyvone has evaer fainted and started sleepwalking?" It would have made sense of his 'dream', although an itch of doubt in the back of his head made it hard to enjoy the image he had of someone passing out in a chair before getting up and walking off to make a sandwich.
"Do people dream when they pass out?" He couldn't help himself but ask, curiosity getting the best of him.
Sel reached down to the side of her suit, pulling out a tiny torch which she right away started to wave over Kaite's face to see how his reactions were as he talked. It may have seemed rude but she did have to check that his brain was still working correctly, or in a way that didn't put him in danger anyway. "I see. So you are unsure of how it happened? Just that it happened around the time of the jump?" Moving away she typed on the lab computer to bring up Kaite's medical file, though she looked more than a little shocked when coming face to face with a artificiality made lifefor-,
"Your male? Huh"
Or the fact that she had gotten Kaite's gender wrong on her original report, she wondered if the captain knew. As a major in xenology she should have felt like she failed in her job, though really the whole memories loss thing was more important. "Either way, no I have not heard of anyone doing that" Walking back over she now pulled up a chair and once again shined the light into one of Kaite's eyes. "As for how it is to pass our? Depends, if you pass out from how tired you are, yes. Though if you are knocked out then no, kind of like" She clicked her fingers by this point to test Kaite's hearing "Switching off a computer. Just offline for a while." Small talk was important, so she answered his questions.
He was quiet during the question, nodding his head, slightly distracted by the light.Even still, he snapped to attention at the mention of his gender. He looked a combination of shocked and confused as he carefully asked, "What do you mean, 'huh'?" taking the time to adjust his tie. The question wasn't phrased like they were insulted, but rather a genuine air of inquiry. Believe it or not, most people simply respected his rank and appearance and left it at that. This in mind, such questions were never really asked by most of the crew.
I could see her looking at my file. She may be a different species with different anatomy, and that was exactly why I made sure to get it right that she was a 'she'. Not to sound racist, but the Vexi don't have many distinguishing characteristics to define gender. At least, none that I could pick out of a lineup...especially if they wore an armored bodysuit like the good doctor.
His ear flicked from the snap of her fingers, slightly dissatisfied by the answer although accepting. She was the doctor and was expected to know such things...as well as who they were talking to *cough*.
Kaite kept most of his personal systems on standby when he wasn't using the, preferring the retro morphing-cube screensaver to a blank screen when he took too long doing something else; it felt more inviting, like the computer was just doing something else in its spare time while waiting for him to come back.
After the flick of his ear, he gave Sel time to respond before he said, "Around zeh time of zeh jump..." nodding as if agreeing before continuing, uneasily, "...I...saw..."
Gawd, this is incredibly silly. I shouldn't be here wasting the doctor's time.
"...I mean, iz zee whole thing vith sleepwalking-" Kaite trailed off, dismissively shaking his head although inadvertently referring to the conversation they just had about the difference between sleeping and fainting.
"I see..." Sel sounded a little concerned by this point, she was a high ranking Vexi after all and had known about such beings as Kaite, though she had little interest in the whole deal. She did have enough knowledge that a few little facts made it to her now and then, more so some of the side effects of them, just in case she would have to deal with them.
"Well, has this every happened before? The fact that you are coming to me must mean it is?" She placed the torch back into her pocket "That being said, do you know anyone that this has happened to before?"
The simple inflection of Sel's tone as she voiced her 'I see...' was enough to sober Kaite's demeanor. "It has nevaer happened before...alzough I vahs in cryosleep during my first jump" he explained before having his initial farce of a question thrown back at him. The answer was complicated, since he had spent sleepless nights looking into Triganavia after he was picked up by the Infamous Alto. The results were jarring and most of what Kaite knew was the claims of 'Crimes Against Life'.
There was never an explanation of what kind of crimes...or how deep they went.
Kaite shook, slightly, as he considered her second question.
"No..." I say, unable to vouch for my dead brothers as I was unaware what had been done to them or what/if they thought. "...I do not know anyone whom this has happened to, before" I continue, carefully picking out my accent to make my words clear. I had noticed the others' decline, but they were always different. I would say 039 lived the best of us, he wasn't burdened with sanity or thought...monsters have it good, that way. 042 simply stopped moving one day and his heart gave out...The others...
The closest I could sum it up is that they just...stopped.
Whatever happened to them, they were unwilling or unable to explain but it often went the same way.
Business as usual...and then nothing.
Did they think? Were they ever scared or confused?
"About what?" A voice perked up, a maintenance worker peeking out from around the examining table...Scott..."They were made that way-" he began, wiping his filthy hands off on an equally filthy rag tucked around his belt, "-It's not your job to wonder what animals think"
Kaite's eyes slowly drifted away from Sel to an unpopulated section of the room by the examining table. He looked like he was about to say something before softly sighing, his eyes narrowing, accenting the slight shadow under his eyes. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, one of his ear drooping to the side, slightly.
"And I guess while I'm awake, too..." he mused almost inaudibly, turning as if about to leave.
Rayland finally made his way past the bridge archway after his chit-chat with Jack back there. Amazing how one can keep a face like that held together without and enhancements but more importantly and even more so logically why not restore it? The man's reason was silly at best and he'd rather not argue over that topic personal care.
The Captain took noticed of the guide lights pulsating across the floors and walls though out the hallways of this ship and the new personnel humorously keeping their heads either down to the floor or the wall as they followed the resonating holographic arrow heads towards the Briefing room. He casually watched as some of the crewman bumped into each other as their senses were distracted by the guide lights, usually exchanging their apologies before grouping up to follow the same trail. One new member, a logistics officer from the looks of their uniform had accidentally collided into Rayland whom in turn spun around and queried if the Drakkas crewman was lost. The man insisted he was he new where he was going but his voice and toned hinted towards stress and anxiety but before Rayland could question him on this, he was already on his way following the holographic markers. Rayland with a blank face questioned if half of these new faces were even qualified much less competent.
Upon his own arrival at the Briefing room, he could make out at least a few recognizable faces as well as some new ones to all spread out withing the theater like space. Some of the crew were quick to notice his entry and gave respectable nods or salutes for the more senior of them. Rayland made his way to the center stage where the main holotable remained untouched what seemed like a year or so with clear evidence of dust caking the surface; a fact that changed the moment he booted the machine up, clearing the surface with a soft surge of air.
Rayalnd took his personal seat positioned conveniently behind the holotable which he was not much of a fan of due to its old unused age and non-ergonomic design. He kept telling himself that he would have that box-like throne uninstalled but apparently the chair's interfaces was tied down with the holotable and it was only a few years ago he was able to find a bypass command that allowed him and other senior personnel to operate the holotable normally without having to sit down on something so uncomfortable. He was sure the very first Captain of this ship hated to actually walk like average sapient biped.
Taking a temporary load off, he interfaced with the console commands and downloaded the mission data to the holotable in front him. The smooth black surface of the table glowed and manifested a stream of light particles taking shape and eventually resembling the approaching Quox system and the Howling Sun's flotilla trajectory. Some of the personnel in the room with him waiting for the official meeting to begin took quick notice and intrigue to their current interstellar position and began to shift the conversations amongst themselves relevant if not slightly relateable to the mission at hand.
Looking to the interface on his wrist, Rayland counted down fifteen minutes till the meeting began. Seeing as though there was small fraction of the personnel present in the room, he figured he would at least personally make a ship wide announcement himself. Unfortunately he left the duties of CO to a timely mannered VI who had conveniently and unintentionally intervened as Towan's voice filled the ship wide comms. “All crewman; a mandatory meeting concerning the current operation in-progress has been scheduled in the Briefing room in fifteen minutes. Guide lights for the Briefing room have been lit for new members for their convenience.”
With a frown instantly appearing on his face, Rayland stepped down from making any moves to operate the comm systems and laid back into his very uncomfortable throne, grumbling as he awaited the arrival of the entire crew.
