Maybe Because they're the fucking MILITARY?! They have guns! They won't worryAbout some small arms a friggn' CQB rifle and a battle rifle. EVEN IF IT'S AGAINST THE RULE BOOK! They won't use the same rules agains't the walking dead. Do you know how much would they weight? Soilders should not be encumbered, especialy when they could get outran by enemy they can't even hit in the head *ahem* walking dead*ahem*

Perfect timing lol. I just posted. Katrina may need some popcorn... and a comfortable lawn chair.

Also @reganza Just in case you take posts made IC personally, I'm here to assure you that whatever I post IC isn't a reflection of how I actually feel lol. I asked Carter what he thought about Niko's entrance and he had some pretty horrible things to say. I filtered most of it out and put them down :/ He made me do it. Clover wasn't happy either.

Ahh.. just me raging. Since writing posts on this forum with my HTC Desire is a shitty as f*ck! I hope the guy i wrote to did not take it personaly since the anger in the post was at the phone, not the original poster.
The thing is in one of my post i made my character find a crashed HumVee belonging to Army Rangers, since their base (Fort Lewis) is located near Tacoma. Inside he found 3 small arms: M4 SOPMOD II, FN SCAR-H, Berreta M9 and ammo for the latter two. He posted that it was unrealistic since, they would send a team to recover the arms. I posted that the risk would be too hign to make a scalvage op. FOR TWO RIFLES. US has one of the largest militaries in the world, so they probably would have the guns to arm them all. So it would be an small loss. Not to mention military seem just to die off in The Walking Dead series.

The only thing I find unrealistic about that post was the fact that your character found weapons in the humvee at all. It's a year into the zombie apocalypse and the vehicle was disabled on the side of a road. Someone else would have found them by now. It would have been more realistic if it was empty.

Just fyi. I'm sure it's not a major problem and if it is the GMs will sort it out.

Just getting in on this whole thing now, but.. Yes, your point about it potentially being too dangerous is absolutely valid. However I'm inclined to disagree with you on the latter. Yes, our military is huge, but as you correctly pointed out afterwards, many in this series seemed to die off, suggested that the military may have fragmented. Therefore the humvee may not have been an official army vehicle, but rather the remains of a platoon that had mostly been killed, and they were just trying to survive like anyone else. In which case, and in a world where guns are your livelihood, it is more than plausable that someone would want to go back for it.

Edit: in response to Exit's point, this is true, had the humvee crashed during the initial outbreak, it almost certainly would be empty. If you were a scavenger, and you had the choice to search a Prius, or a humvee, which would you choose?

However, again, the military could have fragmented. That vehicle may have crashed two weeks ago in-game time, and hasn't been looted yet. Additionally remember that the human population of the planet is not shrinking instead of growing. Each new year there are less and less people to scavenge than there were during the initial outbreak. That is, assuming more people are dying by biters, than babies being born (which i'd imagine that level is really low; enough condoms for a population of 3.5 billion, and the mindset that bringing a baby into this world would be unfair to it)

@reganza No no. I control my account but I converse with the characters I create. Helps to cement their personalities, give them their own voice, you might even learn something about them you didn't know. Eventually they just write themselves. You should try it.

@KOKO You have to wonder then. What happened to the guy that shot him in the head? Why'd he leave the guns there and take off? Why'd the humvee crash?

Don't see why not - though I'd PM AnnaBeth to make sure we haven't reached the pop limit. Then again, you are a returning player so she may make an exception

gonna go ahead and post this just in case there are spaces.

Name: Mark Evergreen
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
Appearance:
Clothing: (as in appearance)
Equipment: Large backpack, satchel, about a weeks worth of food in canned goods, reasonable amount of ammo for a variety of guns, Torch, matches, carton of batteries
Weapons: Pump action shotgun (as in appearance), Pen knife, baseball bat
Bio/Background: Mark started the end of the world in a prison cell. The first time he ever saw a walker was when he was awoke by an undead prison guard trying to reach into his cell. Mark doesnt like to talk about how he escaped the prison, so asking him about it would be the end of someone. Mark has been on his own for a considerable amount of time. With nobody but walkers for company, it is understandable that he has been driven a little insane. The calm and genuinely nice guy that once was is gone. It has been replaced with just a person trying to survive.
Occupation Pre-Apocalyse: Believe it or not before prison, Mark was a pastor. I think its safe to say that he has turned his back on god now.

I just read your post more carefully. As i said the army has a colossal amount of weapons and ammunition, risking soilders to get back 2 small guns sounds stupid. Plus there are many reasons why communication with Fort Lewis might have failed!

You noticed that the last sentance agreed with you all along?*
-Kinda makes your rage-post look a bit spastic.

*It isn't sending soldiers *back* to retrieve missing kit, it's to grab anything and everything useful for the mission (namely, ammo, mags, belts, better weapons, anything that counts as a "force-multiplier" [which they pretty much did, meaning the survivoring (ten?) soldiers are likely lugging their own personal radios and GPS by now, and still retaining their full platoon's allotment of machine-guns and C-mags]) before they GTFO of the killzone. The entire 'bug-out bag' principle.

And like a bug-out bag, it's more a list of priorities of things you really want to keep with you. You can usually survive without it, maybe even get a replacement, but the loss of a man sucks a big one, loss of a man and all his shit is a pretty catastophic loss in some cases. As I said, shit sometimes REALLY gets that bad, in which the grunts have to pray for a quick resupply/evac, and the spec-ops just crank the pucker-factor up to eleven.
