About Shiro being overpowered.

Previously it turned out that the accusation of Shiro's OP-ness was simply based on a misunderstanding and a lack of clarification on my part, however, Shiro was in fact built to be quite strong. I created him with the story purpose of hunting down and fighting Calamity. He's not as strong as Calamity is, but he's significantly more versatile and would most certainly be able to hold his own. It is for this purpose that I designed him, to create a plot thread that might stir the story into action.

However, as it seems now, Calamity is far from being the main villain of the story. Two new and entirely seperate threats have emerged, both of which are more significant than that posed by Calamity himself. Shiro, however, remains significantly more powerful than most other characters, and I believe the only character with a chance of defeating him is Abbadon. This is based not on Abbadon being more powerful than characters like Guilt, but rather because of his capability to preeptively recognize where Shiro will teleport. This severely stunts Shiro's ability to dodge incoming attacks, and potentially grants Abbadon the ability to dodge Shiro's more powerful offensive capabilities.

For those who underestimate Shiro, as I have designed him, consider the following points:

- The Absolute Eye, combined with instant teleportation, makes Shiro practically impossible to hit. Even supersonic projectiles such as bullets will simply be teleported to the Arsenal, only to be turned against their master. Without Abbadon's power or psychic capabilities, it becomes almost impossible to harm Shiro in any way.

- Any weapon or armour utilized by your character is pointless, and may end up making Shiro more capable.

- Shiro's firepower is equivelant to a tank cannon, in an attack he can repeat often. This attack can not be dodged, as it is generated at whatever location he wished. He is able to hit you through walls and other obstacles using the Abolute Eye. The air can potentially be replaced with acidic materials, holy water for Abbadon, or other such weaponry.

- If you have a weakness, and Shiro finds it, he can instantly exploit it. He could literally teleport into the Vatican to steal the Pope's kidneys, if that's your weakness. An EMP, a deadly virus, a volatile explosive.... any weapon and material on Earth, or even in other galaxies or universes, can be acquired in the space of half a minute.

- Should you gain any kind of advantage during the fight, Shiro can instantly retreat to the other side of the world, and spend a nice weekend recuperating on a beach resort. All the while he can spy on you from across the world using the Abolute Eye. Meaning if you ever let your guard down, even while on the toilet or asleep, he can take you down.

Based on these points, I'm sure most people will realize that even with the heavy limiters placed upon him (such as his inability to transport organic material, or to portal things into people's stomachs) Shiro is OP. So my choices are to either nerf him down to a level more equal to the rest of the roleplay, or to continue using him as a plot tool to match more powerful characters. However, I felt that in this it would be rather important to have feedback from the other players.

So long as you give other folks a chance, I personally am a bit lax on the whole thing. It's keeping a balance inside the roleplay...

The threat that my character has "discovered" I intend to keep out of general play for now, at least until after Calamity.

My input:

Nerf the Absolute Eye ability. It's more balanced and makes more sense for Shiro to see what's around him, and only him individually, in 360 degrees. Being able to see 360 degrees everwhere on the planet is too much imo.

Introduce the limitation of a cool down time for his teleporting. This time should be dependent of the distance traveled. Teleporting short distances, like in Shiro's fight on the rooftop with Abaddon, would have little to no cool down time. Larger jumps, like the one you described where he teleports from one part of the world to the other, should obviously have a significantly longer cool down time and possibly some physical draw back.

Nerf his portal creation ability. Sure making portals around you like you do in Portal is fine, but being able to spawn any number of portals anywhere in the world is, again, too much. (lol take a shot every time I say portal)

Nerf Shiro's Tankshell Attack. Just make it avoidable, and it should also only be able to be projected from Shiro's person and again, not from anywhere on the planet to another spot on the planet.

"Any weapon or armor used by your character is pointless." I'm guessing this ties in with him being able to teleport said weapons and armor away. Makes more sense for the weapons than for armor being worn. I don't really have any suggestions for this as it's honestly a logical extension of Shiro's power, just be careful how and when you use it since it can easily step into godmodding.

I think that the main problem with all of these is their potential to be used in an omnipresent fashion. Take this out of the mix and you should have an easier time balancing Shiro out.

@Krein
I think I've come up with a fairly easy nerf. Most of these points can be addressed by simply making it harder for Shiro to use them at long distances. The farther away his target is, the more effort it takes. If he wants to teleport to the other side of the planet, it takes a minute of preparation and focus to do so. This makes it quite hard to do during combat. It also means he cannot project his vision across the world, or attack from immense distances. It also shuts off the option of creating a portal to the sun, and roasting entire cities at once, which is something I've been trying to explain.

The Tankshell will also be nerfed. I'll state that because it's a new technique, and hard to do, Shiro needs a moment to do it. The portal is opened before the actual attack, meaning you have half a second to spot the portal and GTFO. Not enough for a normal human, of course, but a superhuman should be able to do that.

I nerfed the weapon/armour removal by limiting it to nonmagical gear, and stating that extremely technologically advanced gear can be warded against it. Guilt, for example, would have such a ward. If he didn't, Shiro would be able to dismember him with a thought, as he is not alive.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply ^^

@Cuccoruler
No problem, I've gmed as well. And I've also led a life, which means stress. So I feel ya.

Woo!!! You really need to be more active here though, your characters are so awesome and I would love to see more of them!

Also at this point I would give up on Midcube, it's been several weeks I think now, might be best just to move on

You play Yugioh too :D? I know that Gishki used to have some OTK combo that involved them spamming their level 6 rituals, discarding their opponent's hand, and ranking up into Rank 6 XYZ before summoning Zielgigas.

It would be totally cool of Zelan and his minions had similar ritualistic abilities.

@Krein
Yeah, been playing it for about a year now.

One of my earliest duels was my Atlanteans (noob deck) against some jackass who got Zielgigas up on the first turn. THREE TIMES. He OTK'd me, and then some. As such, the gishki have always had a special place in my heart.

Personally, I think they're more geared towards the Atlanteans as portrayed in the Marvel universe. Fish people with advanced technology, ancient magic, and control over ancient sea beasts.

@thewizardguy Cool, I've been playing for about 3 years now, though I only started playing more "legitimate" decks around a year and a half ago. It's funny how you mention Atlanteans considering how one of my preferred decks is Fire Kings. According to the lore for the two, they're at war with each other since the Atlanteans want to take over Fire King Island.

I'd say that the Lswarm archetype (Evilswarm and Steelswarm) is my main and favorite deck. The deck can be rather explosive when it goes off right. If you ever want to duel my DN Account is Kreinbahthur. I've also got YGOPro if you prefer to use that.

@Cuccoruler Don't worry, we're just talking card game talk ^^. But basically, the Gishkis are pretty much what Wiz described in his last paragraph. They're a tribe of underwater dwellers who are aided by sea creatures and have access to powerful, ritualistic magic that turns them into more powerful monsters.

@Krein Aaaaah, Evilswarm. I have little experience with Steelswarm, but Evilswarm are hilarious.

"That's a nice monster you have there. Mine!"

Although if you want something really dangerous, you should try fighting Monarchs, or Raidraptors, or Yosenju. The Raidraptors recently got a s/t negate card, and the archetype is becoming dangerously powerful.

My personal main varies, right now it's X-Sabre. They're kinda old-fashioned, but I like the way they roll. You can pull off some sweet combos, and they're masters at brute force.

I use DN, mostly. YGOPRO is sometimes useful for testing decks solo, but that's about it. My DN name, surprisingly enough, is Thewizardguy.

Sorry to spam the thread with all this. We should probably stop talking about YGO on a roleplay forum. However, Krein. If you have Steam, tell me your Steam name. Might make it easier to arrange a duel if we have an easy method of communication.
