@Aweirdgamer Gagh! I didn't even notice your exploration progress. I don't think it even notified me of the mention. I'm working/struggling with a post right now. I'll also make sure to include a reminder of what the scouting party looks like. I was already planning to make the scouting party turn and head for the lake's shore again for water. With that, it looks almost certain that contact will be made. Is there anything to discuss in PMs regarding first contact?

How come you use italics all the time? I'm not saying it's bad, just wondering.

It is due to...Hm. I suppose I just enjoy the italics as a projection of my mental thoughts. I apologize if such is not a fitting answer that sates the curiosity, Mango.

I also apologize for my lateness in posting. Such is most certainly my own fault and I shall descend upon it now.

Wow, tons happened while we were away (OOC anyways, I haven't checked out the IC tab). I'm loving that ancestry tree, it interests me that the Night-Walkers' closest relatives are the Illis. That could be some kind of evolutionary defect through inter-breeding or something that caused the lack of conscious thought with them. Hmm.... interesting.

I've been considering formally introducing the trees commonly found in my forest. It is what the natives call "Klouskops", growing to an average size of 50 feet in height and a diameter of 6 feet with many branches coming off of it, creating something of a black web expanding all over the forest. The leaves that grow off of the klouskops are black, hence the evolution of Night-Walker skin coloration. One vital aspect to these trees that have become very important to the Walkers is that the branches, especially the thicker ones, are quite sturdy. They are able to support the basic huts that Walkers live in (normally one of these basic structures can be built on the thicker branches in the villages). The leaves and branches often leave the most wooded areas with little sunlight, and thus have developed a form of photosynthesis using the top of the tree as a "collector", delivering the necessary materials down to the rest of the tree.

Here is a picture that shows off (sort of, I'm not great at finding pictures) roughly what they would look like-

What are your thoughts? Would they be feasible for the "Homelands" inhabited by the Night-Walkers?

Haha, well if you'd like me to elaborate - they're more of the less fantasy side of the D&D races - like dwarves and elves. Height of a dwarf but the agile and fleetness (weak-physical strength too) of an elf. Think of them being a cross of dwarf + elf + harpies. I apologize if I'm not able to make them a little more unique D;

I'm the kind of person that likes to stick in bits of realism - as much as possible - in any sci-fi/fantasy things I come up with. :(

Their culture I try to imitate real birds as much as I can, in reference to how males love to look pretty (males are always the more colorful/vibrant ones in the bird-kingdom and all)

EDIT: TBH, I'm having a tough time trying to think of a story of an introduction to dyes with a similar format like my previous posts :X

Arr, having a lack of knowledge in the field truly limits my capability >< Perhaps I should think of an alternate method of coming up with color dyes D;

Perhaps make up a plant which the petal's can make a certain color. It would be a slow process, but workable given the technology present.

Another idea: Befriending the Platta. They have almost every color dye.

I don't see why not. Humans are certainly varied as they spread out, hence why we have a concept of ethnicity.

You could also certainly introduce the concept of intra - species racism, tempered as it may be by the presence of other species (Zenophobia will likely influence many species much more).

If Elitestpotato doesn't post soon I'm just going to skip interaction with him and do other stuff.

Regarding racism, although this wasn't directed at the Platta or me, it did make me think about why the Platta will or won't be that way. The reason why Platta don't judge by the color of skin is that they hold color as something too meaningful to insult each other over color as insulting that is insulting colors.

That's all right. I can initiate it. I'm working on a post as I type this. I don't normally make any PMs, but if you have anything you want to discuss beforehand, go ahead and PM me about it. I will respond as I think the Platta will in IC, and me otherwise.

Assuming the Klouskops are the 'trees', that seems like a reasonable background of where they would be from to me.

Also, @Nerevarine, the Platta will likely be interested in joining that strange cult you reference (mathematics).

In the main village of the Night-Walkers, Khlin, they are more prone to accepting change and new ideas. The opposite is true in the village of Imlona (the one that Bolach just visited), which is much more religious and xenophobic, and considers other creatures to be "impure" and, as Trixarch had stated, "infernal servants of the flame". There might be some problems with them in the future, maybe even a full civil war when the population grows (think USA Civil War).

Did the Choir Members take the Illis that were already traded and present at the post as well or just the ones that were going to be traded at that moment?

They took and killed the one that was being traded at the time (due to the Choir's belief that they have been tainted by to much communication with outsiders) however do not be surprised if eventually an aspiring Society merchant comes and attempts to purchase the Illis back.

I came to think, now that megafauna has been brought up.

What are the parameters of the fauna in the ocean/seas/rivers? What would be considered megafauna in those areas?

Would a serpent that spends it's youth in the rivers of the jungles and as it grows older and bigger it travels downstream into the sea be a plausible creature to have exist?

That would be up for arguments, I have yet to write down exact parameters of the serpent itself.

I was considering about five or six years of age (having an estimated lifespan of 10-12 years), before they leave the rivers, as for size, a full grown one would reach at most 8 meters of length (Being roughly 3-5 meters long when heading downstream).

That was my first thought, but it is very much a work in progress, and is open for ideas and changes.

It seems more likely that a creature of such size would exist in the ocean, not the river, but I suppose I'm not entirely opposed.

I've got three species:

Ferf: A species that would look like a anteaters head stuck on a wolfs body. It's trunk is handy for sucking brain matter and bone marrow. Native to forest area's, but are now beginning to show up in deserts.

Thith: A rodent species that has little meat. Looks like a cross between a rat and a hare. Native to forest environment, but are also moving to the desert.

Semph: A bush plant that has a density that humans would recognize as tomato-ish, but with an apple flavor. Domesticated by the Herenthor and a favorite food of the Thith.

I don't know if it's just me but all of these names sound like noises that someone would make if they were trying to talk with their mouth full.

Well, they would be leaving the rivers at a certain size/age and heading out to sea. That was the entire idea behind them.
