Carter stands at a height of about 5'11", and weighs about 181 pounds or so. Despite his size, he is well built, lean, but not that muscular, but he cannot be considered scrawny at all, but he defiantly is not sporting a six pack. His skin is chocolate brown in color, and his hair is a short, curly, black, afro, and dark brown eyes.

Powers:
Carter's body changes shape, his soft and smooth skin becomes hard and scaly-giving him a metallic red hue. He grows taller and wings sprout out from his back. These changes to his body give him the ability to fly, enhanced durability and strength. These change also allows him to create and manipulate Heat as he sees fit, and he does not need an existing source to utilize this. Hut his body will automatically generate enough heat on the surface of his skin to set him in fire. His skin will constantly be up in flames, but he will not feel it. Despite the power he gains in this form, without oxygen, he is nothing. He cannot transform without it in abundance, and this form consumes it at all times, it is used to maintain it. Thus, all the oxygen around him is constantly used up, so rapidly, that their is only enough air to breath without holding his breath to last him 2 minutes. Once those 2 minutes are up, he must hold his breath, only allowing him to use this ability 4 minutes tops.

Weaknesses:
Because he needs oxygen to transform, most of the oxygen surrounding him is burned up. Because of this, his transformation time is limited. He is given a grace period of 2 minutes of air in order to breath, once that is gone, he has to hold his breath until he can no longer bare it, and he must return to his human form. This means that he has a transformation time of 3 to 4 minutes. His ability also has a cool down after each use, this is usually 10 to 20 minutes long. If there is no Oxygen in the surrounding area, like the ocean, his powers are rendered completely useless and unusable.

Weapons:

A light-weight replica of a Roman Gladuis. Despite being a replica. It has lasted a long time in the hands of Carter, although repairs on the blade are regular. His is not and expert with it, but he can easily hold his own. This blade is only used when he can no longer transform, and must resort to using his sword.

A sword is not the most practical weapon in the world, especially when your facing Meta humans, so a gun is always nice to have. Carter has little to no experience with guns, but has been thought at his settlement in Vegas. His shooting skills are still no perfect, but good enough to get him out of trouble.

Armor/Clothing:
Cater is usually claded in a black t-shirt and purple flanel. He wears straight fit jeans, avoiding that skinny jeans stuff. To finish it of, his feet are claded in black combat boots. Although this is his main attire, his clothing will change just as the seasons change, and he will were what is appropriate for that time of year.

Equipment and Supplies:
Along with his sword and gun, hour carries with him 2 days worth of water, about a days worth of canned food, which would amount to 4 to 5 cans.

Personality:
On the surface, Carter comes off as a rather silly and lighthearted person, frequently engaging in comical behavior and retaining his oft-present grin even while making threats. He displays a childlike amusement for new situations whether or not they prove adverse or even potentially fatal, he has a penchant for wandering off his own only to get lost in some unknown part of town. Even with all these idiosyncrasies, he is extremely personable and has a particularly complimentary nature that easily gains him the friendship and trust of those surrounding him.

Of course, these aspects only hide the complex and determined young man underneath. On the reverse side of his frivolous nature is his considerable shrewdness, which makes him quite capable of reading people and situations. He is particularly observant, taking into consideration even the smallest details of his surroundings in order to better understand and deal with challenges and is not above using cheap tricks or questionable tactics to ensure his own survival. Being singularly ambitious, he has a remarkably tenacious will that allows him to overcome virtually insurmountable obstacles and accept inhuman burdens for the sake of his own ultimate goal. He has a considerable pride that will not stand for having his humanity insulted or condemned by his enemies, but is also capable of shelving his pride if it becomes something that will stand in the way of his objective.

He is very protective of his family and comrades, refuseing to allow any harm to come to them and often deeming their safety more important than his own in spite of his own personal ambitions and goals. He has to be reminded several times that his own safety is something upon which many people depend on and uses his loved ones as his primary motivation when all hope seems lost. As such, he becomes furious when observing those who willingly or remorselessly cast aside their own comrades or brethren and is sickened by the idea of superiors who reject their duty to those who trust them.

History:
Not much is known about how Carter developed his powers. Some say through experimentation, others say it was a change in his genes, but his mother says it was the devil. Carter was born into a very religious family in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately, he did not have a quiet childhood. He was constantly sick, and was in and out of the hospital, mostly due to his body's reaction to his transformations. The doctors never said anything about it, they never looked scared, which led Carter to belive that they were in on something. Unfortunately, he could never get the answer our of them, as time went in though, his brain slowly become accustomed to the transformations, allowing his teenage years to go much more smoothly. Despite that, Carter still searched for answers, his parents told him that he had been posesed by the Devil, but why take him to a doctor? Why did his body reject his transforming, which led him to create 2 theories, one, he was being experimented on, or two, he just could not control the transformations at the time, and he had been born with it. Although this was a situation that he himself wanted solved, Carter pushed this to the back of his mind and went on with his life. Unfortunately, by the end of his third year of college, everything went to hell. An invasion of extraterrestrial beings destroyed everything that he knew, and the virus killed eveyone that he knew. Carter wandered through the remains of Vegas, trying his best to survive one what little he had. During this point, Carter had all the time in the world to think about his secret, and for once in his life, he let go, he became what his parents called the devil, and now searchs for the "doctors", the ones who has answers. Although this is at the top of his list, Carter does not let this search engulf him, and those around him.

Appearance: Max is a man of medium height, standing at around 5'10". In his own words, he is an abomination. His ears, nose, and most of the skin on his face have rotten away, along with any hair he had. What is left of his face is covered in boils and rashes, with pus oozing out of it at various intervals. While his silhouette may portray a fit, muscular male, the reality of his condition is rather gruesome. Most of the skin on his body has deteriorated to the point that it is possible to see what is underneath it. Furthermore, his body has various, bone-like protrusions all around his torso. To try an alleviate the terrifying effect Max's condition has on other people, he has taken a few steps to cover himself up. Mainly, he has coated both his head and neck with bandages, leaving only a gap for his eyes, which he covers with thick, tinted goggles. He generally tries to wear thick clothing to cover the protrusions throughout his torso.

Skills: He can fix various vehicles.

Powers: Max is gifted with the power of body manipulation. He is able to shape, stretch, harden, and generally morph his body tissue into anything that suits him. However, he is still constrained within the laws of physics, meaning he is restricted to the tissue available to him at any given time. However, this is not the only incarnation of his powers. Before the apocalypse, he had a much more tame version, which basically only allowed him to stretch his body without any possibility for manipulating it. However, the virus changed both him and his powers. Now, Max is able to manipulate the structure of his cells entirely(for better or worse), as well as having both moderately heightened strength and senses.

Weaknesses: His deformed body left him with an acute sensitivity to most tactile interactions. In simpler terms that means a cut, scrape, or even some sand thrown on his skin can be debilitating or at the very least cause immense pain. Furthermore, his deformities don't help when it comes to social interaction.

Weapons: None.

Armor/Clothing: He wears his bandages, as previously mentioned. On an average day, he'll wear a grey shirt, black pants and a black hoodie. He usually wears sneakers.

Equipment and Supplies: He carries a backpack filled with some food, water, a compass, and a map.

Personality: Scarred both physically and mentally, Max has descended into his own abyss of the mind. Constantly self-deprecating, Max is extremely insecure about his appearance. This insecurity can translate into him coming off as standoffish and sometimes violent. However, despite this, he still wishes to have social interaction, and is generally not too shy. Nevertheless, he has more to his personality than just his way with people. His temper is rather short, as he can get quite angry if things don't go his way. Moreover, he can be rather cocky at times, often trying to do things his own way without much planning or thought.

History: Born into affluence, he was the youngest among three brothers. Throughout his life, Max always felt like the odd one out. Things never went his way, whether it be school, family life, sports, etc. However, he always had an outlet to his frustrations: building things. Whether it was Lego blocks, circuitry, whatever. He was enthralled with breaking things down and building them up again. He soon knew he wanted to work with his hands for the rest of his life. After going to trade school and becoming a mechanic, he got a nice, small apartment in upstate California.

All seemed normal, until he made a miraculous discovery: he could stretch his arms almost 10 feet! In fact, he could stretch his entire body to all sorts of weird and zany proportions. He had heard about this before, having superpowers, but never thought it would happen to him. He was elated, as the power gave him vigor just by being his own, having so rarely possessed something as special as this.

However, his whole life was turned on its head when the apocalypse began. He was set upon by the virus very early in its outbreak. The first few days were excruciating. Constant diarrhea, convulsions, you name it. But after those first few days of being stricken by the illness: nothing. However, on the night when the symptoms were finally over, he fell into an almost two-day long coma. When he woke up, he found himself in this zombie-like form, but having much greater powers than previously. When he first saw his face, he had a panic attack, screaming for what seemed like hours at a time. When he came to grips with what he had, he realized that there was nothing he could do about it. He tried turning on the TV: nothing. No internet either. This was bad, real bad. He placed some bandages over his head, put on some goggles, and headed out into this new world.

It's good. I'm a little wary about how it drains oxygen, though. Could he suffocate someone else with that? How much more durable than you or I is he? How strong are his fire powers? No I understand, that is why I gave him such a weakness, he was very powerful. Anyway, in terms of durability, if you or I were to be stabbed, let's say, in the arm by a 5 inch blade, it would easily sink all the way through, but for Carter, only 2 inches of the blade to sink in, before his skin would stop it. The force applied would make a difference, but his skin would act life buffer, pushing back at it. So were as a bullet to the heart would kill us, a bullet would be slowed down by his skin enough to stop it from puncturing his heart. But cutting him would be difficult. Hope that makes sense. As for the oxygen, someone would have to hugging him, or be in his "bubble" basically to be affected, since the fire only burns on the surface of his skin, it only takes air in the general area. As for his Heat Manipulation, he can super heat the air in an area within his direct line of sight, but not to far away from him, he can create fire, throw it, use it like a flame thrower, as he sees fit basically. I guess another weakness would be the fact that he can manipulate Heat in extremely cold environments.

Appearance: Steven has somewhat messy black hair. Standing at an average height, he’s pretty normal looking. He’s the kind of the guy you don’t really remember for looks, if he didn’t have an eye patch. But he does, so he’s pretty distinctive as the guy with an eye patch.

Settlement: Drifter

Profession: Part time lazy guy

Skills: Steven learns pretty quickly. He also runs fast and is pretty good at camping, hiking and fishing, and a bit of climbing. Pretty agile. Somewhat good at cooking. He’s really good at keeping calm and almost never panics, mainly because he’s kind of an idiot. Untrained but pretty good at sneaking. Basically, he’s physically fit, runs fast and does a bit of stealth. He’s also the kind of guy who can do anything if he tried, probably.

Powers: Steven has 2 invisible ‘cubes of influence’ which he does stuff in. They’re intangible and can be controlled telekinetically, and if Steven moves, the cubes move with him. He can also tune his sight to his cubes in order to see out of them. Additionally, he can teleport objects within one cube to the other cube. He can transport any one thing he can identify, so he can be selective about it.

Weaknesses: His cubes of influence are fairly small, around 15 cubic centimetres, so the objects he can teleport are limited in size. Furthermore, depending on the size of the object, it takes energy to move it, so his use of that power isn’t infinite. Objects he can transport are also reasonably limited further. He can only transport things he can sense, and he can’t transport parts of an object or an object that’s part of another object. For example, he can take a key off a key chain, but he can’t take a clip out of a pistol, because if it’s loaded then it’s a ‘part’ of the gun. Also, when he’s seeing out of his cubes, he can’t see out of his own eyes. This weakness is, however, partially circumvented by the fact that he lost his eye a while back (more of that in the back story). He can use his missing left eye to see out of one of the cubes, and since there isn’t much reason not to, he does it most of the time.

Weapons: None, really.

Armor/Clothing: Travelling clothes. Reasonably thick pants, walking shoes, jacket and shirt. Also a pretty big back pack.

Equipment and Supplies: A large backpack with camping gear including a portable stove thing, a small tent with tent pegs and sleeping bag. He also carries spare clothes, 7 cans of food that might last him a few days and a 2 L bottle of water. He doesn’t carry too much, though, as he has to walk long distances, and he normally scavenges when he runs low. Also carrying his 3DS and phone, but they’re both turned off because there isn’t much power in the post apocalypse. Also has a lighter.

Personality: Steven is pretty lazy and kind of an idiot. That’s not to say he lacks intelligence, because he’s actually pretty smart. He can practically do anything he puts his mind to. The problem is, he doesn’t put his mind to much. It’s kind of because he can do a lot of things, but he gets bored pretty easily and goes back and forth.

The reason Steven’s an idiot is because he does most things with reasons that most people don’t come up with because, you know, common sense. He usually ignores danger if what he wants leads to it, but he often comes out unscathed through a mix of luck and skill.

Other than that, he can be described as a happy-go-lucky guy, satisfied to cruise through life at his own pace, not having many aspirations. He’s often seen with a smile, though, and he doesn’t take much seriously. Even then, he often thinks about his situations and what he should do. Keeping a dopey exterior, he manages to make his feats mostly look like coincidence. Always relaxed, a lucky idiot.

History: Steven was somewhat normal. ‘Was’ is the keyword. He had no real aspirations for his entire life and was mildly curious about the alien invasion and subsequent combat scenario. However, rather than be involved with the resulting apocalypse, his family isolated themselves from the outside world. Steven was content to sit still for a while and wait for the whole thing to blow over, really. But then the virus strengthened his powers and everything changed.

He was playing games one day when he was suddenly struck by a massive sensory overload which made him overly sensitive to everything. His power, which’d been extremely small but present, mutated when the virus affected it, and it went out of control. After a few hours of pain, he woke up to find his room had box shaped holes in it and a bunch of stuff missing. He was suddenly aware of 2 invisible cubes that followed him. Unfortunately for him, his ps3 was gone and so was his eye.

After he stopped the bleeding, he began training his power and getting used to not having a left eye anymore. He found that he could still use the cubes to ‘see’ with his left eye, so he guessed that it was still around somewhere. As it turns out, his family was still kind of fine, but they didn’t want to go out. Steven did and found some stuff from his room to be outside, but his ps3, his eye and a few other things were nowhere to be found.

Being the only outdoorsman of the family, Steven was experienced in travelling, so he packed his bags and prepared to set out into the world in order to find his ps3, his eye and the other bits and pieces he’s missing (he started around a month ago from where the story starts).

How long after the Apocalypse is this? I was thinking you said a year, but I wanted to be sure.

A question that I don't believe has been asked before:

Where exactly do most powers come from? Alien origins, psionics, etc., and is it something that just manifests at some point or are you born with it?

Looked interesting so I thought I would apply! Feel free to critique my app, also I'm going out of town for a couple of days so don't be alarmed if I don't respond. However, if we start on Tuesday then I shall be ready by Sunday.

Appearance: Gleaming yellow eyes can be seen beneath the curly brown hair of this tan Caucasian. He stands at 6 feet evenly and his body is lightly toned with not a lot of muscle mass. He weighs around 160lbs. His expression at most times is charming but that is not to say he is a nice person, while his face is chiseled with no facial hair growing whatsoever. Blake wears torn up clothing over his clean body and wears no shoes upon his feet.

Location: Recently, hes managed to find himself wandering in the giant Redwoods, Post-California.

Settlement: Blake is a drifter by nature, choosing to not stay in one place for long.

Profession: Before the apocalypse Blake was studying to become a veterinarian.

Skills: Animal-Medicine, Cooking, projectile weaponry, fighting

Powers: Blake has the ability to transform into an armored knight. This armor has a demonic visage with medium plating fully encompassing him with no body parts being shown. Etched into the armor are ruins that give off a ominous yellow glow. The helmet has two yellow glowing eyes with a sly, toothy grin for a mouth while two horns protruding from either side of his head, wrap down to almost touch his neck. His physical and mental abilities are enhanced while in this form, while it also sports magic based attacks that come from his gauntlets, which are also a form of melee attack. The magic itself is shadow based which means he is able to manipulate shadows for multiple uses.

Weaknesses: Fully body Sunlight stops him from using his magical powers and also nullifies his ability to transform. From past experience anytime he tries it doesn't work, while if he happens to be in his armor he will come under excruciating pain as the armor turns to ash, which he then won't be able to use for up to 2 hours. Shade allows him to regain his magical abilities and his transformation but only on a small scale compared to the night sky. The armor itself can stand a good bit of blows, but will eventually start to break apart if under too much stress.

Weapons: He has a small dagger hidden in his sleeve and he also carries a 22 glock hidden behind his back. Most of his weapons reside with his armor and powers.

Armor/Clothing: Torn clothing, his Diablo form.

Equipment and Supplies: He wears a small backpack filled with essentials for a drifter. Food, water, ammo and some medicine as well as a picture of home and family.

Personality: Blake is a hard worker, usually trying his hardest when preforming tasks, at least when he cares. Rarely does he laugh or smile anymore but when he does it can be infectious. Hes mostly cool but Blake can be arrogant as well as rash at times when he believes in something. Hes the type of person that would help any animal in an instance but not so much a human. While in his Diablo form his mood darkens into a brooding figure who does not care what others think.

History: Blake was ordinary before the apocalypse with nothing extraordinary about him that he could think of, other then the fact that he liked nature and helping animals. Everything changed when the aliens came and deployed the virus which ended his normal life. The day that happened he was in a museum with his fiancee strolling about the exhibits, trying to get their minds of things. Dusk was starting to fall and it was time to ago home yet they never did. The virus came, killing everyone and he could only watch as his lover died before his eyes and he stood there for what seemed like an eternity trying to grasp the situation before finally realizing what happened. As he fell to his knees the only thing he felt was rage, hatred, malice and revenge. It started slowly at first, the tingling sensation that wrapped around his body blinding his vision. He felt sick but could not move and when the sensation finally ended the blindness passed but what he saw was alien. His vision was enhanced and as he looked at his hands they were not his own. but some monster! He got up and ran from the room, faster then ever before and as he pushed the door to enter the bathroom it exploded off its hinges from the mere touch. He looked in the mirror then and realized that the monster was him and he could only wonder why as he punched the glass shattering it. Diablo had been born.
That was around a year ago and since then Blake has learned about his powers, using them to survive in a world which was now quiet. His family was dead and so was the life that he knew. There was only one thing to do and that was wander around the country with no direction in mind. As he walked the landscape the old Blake died and a new one was born, one who knew of hardship and loss. The only thing he felt anymore was empty and a burning sensation deep down that drove him forward. Seldom has he made human contact but on the occasions that he does two outcomes appear. One where he walks away with what he needs and two being the same as the first but with dead bodies in his wake. His latest trek has had him travel to the Redwood forest of California, what he hopes to find there, not even he knows.

Other: Enjoys the presence of animals more then humans.

I feel obligated to tell you we have a demon-esque character already. That doesn't mean I can't accept yours, but I thought you should know. So, how tough is his armor? How strong is he? How powerful are his magical attacks?
Then, in his history, why was he is a museum of all places? If there's an ongoing alien invasion, that might be the last place I'd go unless I had a unnatural love for history. Why isn't he in his house, with his fiance, waiting for the whole invasion to blow over, when suddenly, he realizes his wife is sick?
