@Eklispe I'm actually a little confused too. Each rank costs 5xp (if Major) times the rank number you're buying into. So rank 1 costs 5xp and rank 2 costs 10xp, for a total of 15xp. That's how I understood it o.o

So for Acrobatics, with no free points, to get to rank 2 costs 15xp. You put your racial into Marksman, but rank 2 is 10xp as well. Sneak 2 costs 10xp as does Vigilance 2- 10xp. Block 1- 5xp. Survival 2- 10xp. Illusion 2- 10xp. Alteration 1- 5xp. Enchanting 2- 10xp. - 85xp

Now for Talents: Grit 5xp, Lethal Blows 5xp, Stalker 5xp, Outdoorsman 5xp, Quickdraw 10xp, Quickstrike 10xp, Precise Aim 10xp. Since you didn't purchase Jump Up or Targeted Blow you can't get your second Stalker talent rank. total- 50xp

And extra END stat- 20xp.

@Eklispe it maybe that it is I who misunderstood something. But both from what Lotus said and from the rules I got that Major Skills no matter of their origin start at 0. At creation you get 7 points to spend on them.

Here you go his rules
Ya, it is a little squirly.

Here is my RULING!!!!

First select ranks in skills listed from your race (each race will vary in type and number of ranks you can get). For Major skills: You pick 6 skills to be your MAJOR skills. These can be whatever you want them to be. After you have chosen the 6, put 1 rank into 4 of them. You then choose an archetype and the 4 skills listed there become MAJOR as well. You then choose 2 of these 4 and put 1 rank in them as well. You can stack ranks that way only up to 2 at character generation.

After this is done you can spend your xp (dependent on race) the following ways:

Buy ranks in a skill (only up to 2 at char gen): 5xp x # of the rank you want to buy to (then +5 if it is not a major skill)
Buy a talent for your archetypes talent tree (starting at the top): The XP value stated
Increase an attribute: 10 x # of the value you want to buy to
Get a 2nd archetype (you do not get free ranks in the skills, but they became major and you get access to a new talent tree): 10 x # of archetypes already owned.

If you have xp left over, you keep it until it is spent.

when buying stuff be sure to note it on your character sheet, I will approve the buys (the math can be tricky)

[edit]

For 'Skill Ranks' -- put in the number of ranks a skill has
For 'Talents' -- put down the talents you bought from your Archetypes trees

Edit

After checking the other CS approved, I see to be the only one understanding the rules like this. So it must be my fault.

@WittyWolfwell I'm no gm...
So it's not up to me to decide who is wrong or right...simply followed the rules to the level of my understanding.
LotusWarrior will be the one to decide.

I thought the soul gems fit reasonably within my character background. Either way regarding both skills and inventory i'll wait for GM approval. You have a point on the 2nd rank of stalker I didn't see that, so I'll take Jump Up and leave 5 points left over. Though I wouldn't need targeted blow to achieve it as far as I can tell.

@Eklispe I wanted to do the same, but we only have 25gp at start and only level 1 difficulty spells in each spell category at start. I wanted Soul Trap pretty badly for my Mage.

Yea, it was either talent you needed to buy in order to get to it. =)

All right @Eklispe@WittyWolf@Regendorf@rush99999 We are good to go, you just need to make some small corrections to your CSs I asked. I am going to start the RPG officially in a day or so. I will also post a rule compendium on how we are going to run this thing before that (a little blurb on post order and how I will run the dice mechanics). So be ready to ELDER SCROLL BITCHES!!!

@LotusWarrior Mate, the Athletics skill is marked to be affected by strength. While on stat description Stamina is the defining stat for Athletics. How is it in the end?

I would guess since stamina isn't a stat that we have as far as I can tell; its Athletics.

@EklispeSorry, meant to say Endurance, not Stamina

And what I mean is that

In Character Sheet pdf you have Athletics(Str)
In New Rules, Magic,and Disease pdf you have
Endurance The ability to endure. Determines a character’s wounds, and is a governing attribute for blocking, athletics, and resilience.

@Regendorf I will look into it. On the character sheet it reads Athletics as Str. But then that leaves END with only two other skills linked to it when all the rest have well more than that. Conceptually I will ponder on it (and am actually leaning towards Athletics being END). I will update you guys when I am done today’s classes.

Dice Rules:

Now Edge of the Empire is a narrative dice game. There is no simple pass or fail here. The dice give narrative density to the game. A failure can be matched with benefits that sweeten the vinegar, or a success with a despair that sours a sweet victory. Typically any Advantage symbols gained on a test are spent by the PCs. But for the speed and simplicity of the game the DM will spend them to aid your story (unless there are a lot of them).

If a Triumph occurs (or a lot of advantages that equate to a triumph), then the player is allowed to interpret it as something really really cool being done by the character, a cool effect occurs, or whatever else the player can imagine. The player will PM it to me and I will approve (unless it is too outlandish).

Any negative dice symbols are interpreted by the GM.

-Dice symbols-

Do read the Edge of the Empire beginner sheet I provided as it explains what these symbols mean. For brevity sake I will leave letters to represent the symbols as follows

Triumph = = T
Success = = s
Advantage = = a
Despair = = D
Failure = = f
Threat = = t

-An example of a skill test-

Qa'Ra is running along the rooftops of Markarth when he needs to make a long jump to reach the next set of buildings. There has been a recent snow and the ground is a little wet. Following him are three guards in hot pursuit. Qa'Ra picks up speed and tries the jump.

His Agility is 3 and his Athletics is 2. Thus he starts out with 3 green (ability) dice and upgrades 2 of them to yellow (proficiency) dice. He will roll with 1 green and 2 yellow dice. The gap is not to far, but still not a leisurely hop, thus I add 2 purple (difficulty) dice. The snow is wet and slightly slippery, this I will add a black (setback) dice. I roll the dice and get the following symbols (after matching symbols have been cancelled out):
s s t t (2 success and 2 threat)

Qa'Ra makes the jump and is still on his feet, but the landing was not the smoothest as possible, -2 strain.

The soldiers follow suite, but there bulky Armour weighs them down. They roll 2 green against 1 purple and 1 red (challenge) dice. They roll:
f (failure)

The guards either stop before the edge or jump short and fall bellow.

Posting order:

Due to the narrative nature of the game. I will allow 1 post per player indicating what they want to do, I will then post the dice tallies and roll results followed by the narrative effects. If there is a triumph I will ask the player to PM me their idea for approval, I will either post the triumph outcome or leave it to the player. We then will start the next round.

A round may last a few seconds (in a fight) or minutes and hours (searching, travelling, gossiping, smithing, etc) If I feel that one player is getting ahead of the others by performing a time consuming task, I may state that the player does not get to post for the next round (as they are engaged for that period of time).

If a player drops out or does not post in a few rounds, I will simply NPC them until they return or forever.

------------
We move…

PS. Play your characters like you never been to Skyrim (or is so only briefly). I know we all played the fucking video game, it still means we cannot play like the world is new

So, we've already gathered...ok

Oh, and I do have a question. Do actions only take effect from one Skill? I mean can't one use 2 Skills to affect one action? As in the previous example wouldn't the jump be affected by both Athletics and Acrobatics?

Of course the limit would still be the stat limit of 3 dice. But the last dice would also be upgraded. Well that's the feeling I got from reading the rules.

Albeit the rules say that in the case that there are more dice to be upgraded than actual upgradeable dice. One should add an upgradeable dice to the pool instead. Thou in the situation you actually presented there Qa'Ra bases the jump of Agility so don't know how that would work, since Athletics and Acrobatics are based of different stats

Probably just rambling...ignore if I don't make sense.

EDIT

Didn't initially notice, but @LotusWarrior you plan to be a true table top GM. No in game char, huh? I think you're awesome to do that.

@Regendorf I hear what you are saying, Kinda a hard line to draw with some skills. But I will call it as I see it.

Also the game works by taking 1 attribute and 1 skill. it is how the system runs. If there is some other effect I can add a Blue dice or even arbitrarily upgrade a dice. but that is on an individual roll basis.

Also yes. Fuck a DM NPC. All the NPCs are mine...

Rumours check required: (2 green VS 1 purple 1 Black [general racism against him]) = a == Failure with advantage

Watching the bartender go behind some crates to grab something, Metosi sees her look at him, smile and wink. He may be not as unliked as he thought.

I only just realized that.
