So is there anything plot wise our characters need to do, or can they like... leave Lumiose and start exploring?

Ryu and I are in the middle of a Collab, so everyone can explore. Though I do think it would be a good idea to set up a destination where all the groups can get together.

well, may I suggest the city with the first Gym? People who want to battle can do so while others can explore the surrounding flower area and forest.

Shantalune makes the most sense anyway. Beginner trainers who want to challenge the Gyms start there, though remember, this won't entirely be like the games. I can also be like the anime. Traveling a Route could take several days and there could be Pokémon Centers along it that our characters could meet at.

@Ryuzaki There should be a limit on moves to some extent though. If you think about the anime, even then their move pool is limited, though the extent to which it is is never clearly defined

Pokémon learn moves through leveling and practice, hence why a leveling system is in place. Your pokemon should be around the level it needs to be to use the moves it does.

While that level of freedom is nice, imagine having a pokemon that knows it's entire move list from levels, HMs, and TMs. That level of adaptability could be bothersome, don't you agree?

Do allow me to put my own two cents in here for a few minutes. If we are to go with the anime style of fighting where we can have an unlimited number of moves it would allow for adaptability on a level which would make it easier to defeat even the League Champion. If they acted like game characters that is. What we forget is that, in the anime, the battling is much more strategic at times in order to overcome type advantages-which can wreck an entire team in the game-and some moves will counter others depending on their power. Let's say an ice type pokemon used Ice Beam against a fire type pokemon. In the game it would hit almost every time depending on debuffs but it can be dodged in the Anime with ease at the cost of leaving a part of the battle field covered in ice. Or, the fire type can cancel out the ice beam with a similar power move and create a veil of steam like it would if you did the same with a water type move.

See, the Gym Leaders and Elite Four aren't bound to the Game Logic if we use the Anime Logic. They can fight strategically just like we can and they have more experience in doing it. Even if we had an unlimited move set at lvl 100, it's adaptability would easily be matched by the experience the Gym Leaders have. They will see more opportunities to punish mistakes and ways to set traps than the player character would and, using the Anime Logic, could certainly pose much more of a threat than a Leader bound by the Game Logic. Anyway, that is my way of looking at it. Though, I don't exactly support the entire move list. Perhaps it should be more limited to moves twenty o fifteen levels below before they are left behind. Though, simple moves like tackle, scratch, tail whip, growl, and such should probably stay through the level cap since it is pretty much a set of moves which every pokemon should know no matter what.

@Mag LevAgreed, besides the variety can make it easier for us to write way more attractive and epic battles.

that would also help people with pokemon with limited move pools. i know they are few and far between, but there are pokemon that only learn new move every ten to fifteen levels or so. which in turn leaves them with an entire pool of ten or less. sure there are hm and tm but they are rare and expensive. there is also tutoring if we allow it to bleed over. and i agree with mole. it would get boring using the same moves over and over. that is once we get high enough because we must remember our pokemon are growing and yet to know the dozens of moves they can know. i know it's nice to plan ahead but write in the now. focus on whats right in front of you. itll be funner that way.

...*goes back to working on my post* I'll leave this all up to you guys though I do have a question. How do our pokemon level up and learn moves in this? It's not like the actual game so I hope you have something planned.
