I'm a sucker for sci-fi action - I think I'll have to wait until I see the OOC to decide, however. Looking forward to reading what the OP can put together! :D

Well a full squadron is 12-18 pilots and their fighters. It's possible to run a group that large.

Break it down in smaller flights of three to four people, working together. Groups of 4 are probably better, as they can split up into even lead and wing pairs. At 12 figheters, to 18 fighters, they can split into 6 person groups that could be considered squadron sized, and thus one group is one wing, and the other is wing two.. and then wing three, and so on..

It all depend son how OP wants to organize people.

So many gentlemen in one place. Quite a spectacle

Eight players is/was my maximum count, and I think we've reached that, so it depends on who stays in or drops out at this stage, especially once I get the OOC up - I'm sure some people might decide to drop out if they don't like the story or setting particularly, or don't find a race they particularly want to play. Though, I'm hoping there'll be enough to appeal to everyone.

I am currently working on getting everything up so it can be up soon and so peoples' excitement doesn't disappear, and so we can at least get character creation started quickly.

To give you a hint on the story and setting, it is heavily inspired by Halo, Mass Effect, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica (the newer series), Stargate SG-1 and many, many more things along a similar vein.
It is a quite clearly sci-fi setting, with numerous races co-existing peacefully in an interstellar alliance. Over a long time of relative peace, they have grown somewhat complacent. When an enemy long thought of as gone and thought of as a myth to scare small children with returns - or so it is assumed - it's up to a fighter squadron and the ship they're on to piece together pieces of an ongoing puzzle over two thousand years old or more to work out how and what's going on, and how to stop it. And many signs point to there being some kind of deeper, darker conspiracy at hand that may stretch into the interstellar governments' organization itself.

With numbers and time against them, and little information to go on, and thrown from one battle to another, the squadron will end up having to balance the increasing odds, the information they find out. And as they find out more, they draw more attention from the forces - foreign and domestic - arrayed against them, for better or worse.

The plot kinda reminds me of an interstellar version of Gundam AGE. Which is a bad thing, but I'm sure you can't do much worse than the hacks that wrote it.

Also, manufacturing an enemy to unite against... Smells of really scummy politicians.

As I've had a lot more interest than expected, I might be willing to extend the numbers; I'm just wary of people dropping out quickly as has happened in other games I've run. I'm not implying anyone in particular will, just that it's something that tends to happen, and I'm keen to be able to put some energy into developing character-related plots and back-stories with people who stick in for the long-term.

With a back-handed compliment like that, how can I go wrong :P
But more seriously, I haven't seen AGE, so any comparisons are coincidental. And the summary I gave above is exceedingly rushed and very lacking in detail, so I'm sure it'll be very different to AGE when it gets going, and I can give a more detailed explanation.

Also, manufacturing an enemy to unite against... Smells of really scummy politicians.

I can see how you'd take that idea from the summary, but the enemy is quite definitely real and not manufactured. It's more that within the government there are individuals and groups who may have known more about what was coming, or have their own agendas and can turn the fighting of a war to their own advantage for all sorts of reasons.

I've almost drawn all the OOC docs together, so the thread should be going up later today.

Definitely still here for this. Awaiting the OOC.

You could just allow anyone to join(who has an acceptable character), but have strict rules about disappearing players. Say, for instance, if the player is incommunicado after X days, the character dies in the next flight. Warn them through PM that this is about to happen, and if they don't intervene the character is gone for good. This would a) deal with MIA RPers, and b) give us some character deaths, which really drives the war home for the remaining players and characters alike.
