Could I be a quasi-British nation based in Bermuda? On a quest to reclaim the glory of the Crown? Or maybe a Republic. Haven't decided yet.

Main aims would be to secure imports of wood and steel for ship-building - basically a merchant nation.

Don't ignore the fact they'd need staple foods imported in as well or they'd starve.

I'm going to start working on a post now. I'd rather have it up before the day's done.

Don't worry, I shan't. Currently, they eat mostly fish, as well as the limited interior imports of staple crops from the Bahamas.

The main commercial aims of Bermuda will likely run as follows:

1) Secure trade routes to the mouth of the River Mississippi to guarantee a supply of wheat from the Great Plains.
2) Establish a continuous supply of wood for fuel and shipbuilding, perhaps by creating a base on Nova Scotia for Canadian timber.
3) Gain a reliable source of iron ore, probably by setting up a trade company for the Appalachian region.
4) Establish good relations with a nation willing to export electronics, or gain a sufficient educated population base along with supplies of copper, rubber and rare earth elements to kickstart Bermudian technological industry.

That's actually a really hard thing to do in this era, AFAIK. America isn't exactly prime rubber territory. (There's a reason so many nations were eager to get their slice of the Congo just before WW1.) Copper is very possible, and maybe certain earth elements...

@IluvatarThere are a two things I feel the need to point out:

1) You have a very disconjointed and separated nation, literally anyone can just come in and wipe and island out seeing as most people have armies larger than your entire population. I highly recommend you find a strong ally in one of the places you wish to trade so you aren't instantly nommed on. (The Grand Commonwealth Union is available for such a relationship if you want :p)

2) As Shorticus mentioned, there is no real way of producing rubber and whatever electronics you have is best kept to yourself. Unless you some how got an expedition into Africa and is now sending your copious amounts of rubber, I don't see it being too likely you'll be exporting rubber. While synthetic rubber might be an option, again I feel that its something best kept to yourself along with electronics as its probably one of the things that would keep you alive.

In other news, I've decided to make @Dinh AaronMk co-GM as he clearly knows what he's talking about technology and other crucial things on a level which surpasses my own.

Sorry I haven't posted recently, I had a quid in math that I failed, a test in math the next day I also failed, and then I had to fill out a middle college application at the last minute and I don't know if it's even valid. Not that it matters. I mean, I just failed two math tests. That doesn't say good things about my chances.

Anyways, I'll have the app finished over the weekend.

To his benefit island landings would be difficult since the invader clearly has the least maneuverability in such a concentrated shore landing than a defender. But the issue with all the British islands in the Caribbean is that they're spread so far apart that the defense could still be put on dire straights by the time the Bahamas is aware, and then defeated by the time reinforcements arrive.

I think it's safe to say for the region any hopes of modern chemical production is pretty much dead.

Not to say all electronics will be dead in sixty years (I thought we were a century removed from Armageddon?) but the means of making more and maintaining then is pretty much over.

It's complicated more when computer technology really does need mines in the Congo for the requisite materials.

I hope I'm not using too many radios.

On that, actually:

The idea in my head is that radios in the four nations of the League are an important source of information. There's mostly operable radios in pre-war vehicles; there's a few radios in big social centers (such as a bar, inn, or marketplace), and there's radios in the hands of important people (like the Secretary General). Besides that, they're not common.

There's also only two radio stations: a government one which plays music all day (except to bring up news alerts and any big warnings / announcements) and another which plays different music and has a popular radio evangelist that preaches anti-Evol behavior and some fairly conservative rhetoric.

@KingWillardYour history, its... a bit unimaginable.

Before The Great Dying, the cult of Olldarism had created a floating city. A fortress of technological achievements, a small city designed for up to 10 million people that floated along the waves. It took seven years to complete the entire leviathan, complete with self-sufficiency: farms, clinics, schools, and churches that were worked by passengers/citizens. It was named the USS OLLDAR. The OLLDAR could not move on it's own, though, it required a strong tug boat named the USS FIN to move it around Earth's vast oceans. The OLLDAR started it's maiden voyage on February 20th, 2017. It's purpose was to house the Olldarian believers during the oncoming apocalypse. Whether it was actual foresight or just plain coincidence, the apocalypse happened no more than 2 months after setting sail.

By this it sounds like you are saying a cult had built something larger than an aircraft carrier and some how got more the the entire population of NYC to believe in it and go on a giant boat? That's kinda ridiculous to be quite honest and unless you some how had a lot people in the higher ups of the old federal government to allow for this kind of construction since a ship since it would cost an absolute metric fuckton cubed to build. The US today couldn't even build something like that, it'd cost billions if not trillions of dollars and much, much longer than seven years even if they put the most morally questionable labor practices in place.

The modern cruise ship doesn't even get past 5000 occupants and the largest aircraft carrier ever made can only hold 6000; to say you some how made a ship to hold 10 million is insane. You wouldn't have a "small city", you'd have basically the entirety of NYC in landmass and population on the ocean. The shear size of the space which living cabins would take up would be massive, never mind all the other buildings.

That along with some formatting things is the reason why I'm going to have to reject this NS.

I don't have too much of an issue with this as long as said radios tend to be a bit unreliable at times since they're old and most likely salvaged and put back together with spare parts. @Dinh AaronMk Might be a bit more knowledgable on the realism of this but from my point of view, they're okay as long as you take into account the obvious draw backs.

@ClocktowerEchos

I've certainly known radios to last a long-ass time. I got an early transistor one hanging around at the kitchen bar.
