Delving Deeper

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Brian is usually seen as a bright and happy young boy, with a passion for animals, large or small. Growing up in Australia, he is use to dealing with creatures that might try to kill him on a daily basis, so when someone else might freak out over a tiny spider, he’d be the one setting it free into the wild. He tends to be friendly to all, and very outgoing. He isn’t very fond of fighting, and will try to break it up with a joke. He seems to have a varied sense of humor, and likes to make people laugh and smile, just like he seems to be doing.

However, this is just the mask he puts on daily. Inside, Brian is in mourning, and a very lost soul. He is different in his family, and is resented by some of them. He does not let his sadness or anger show very often, since he was usually bright and sunny as a small child, and want to keep that up. However, the mask will start crumbling at some point. He is working with a therapist over the summers to help him, however, he doesn’t enjoy talking about this side of him, and unless probed, his mask will stay.

H I S T O R Y

Brian was born to his mother and father in the lovely country of Australia. His father was an American transplant who met his mother, and fell in love. The two were married quickly and chose to stay in Australia after Brian’s mother found out she was pregnant. One child later, they had Brian, and the family of four was happy.

Brian’s mother worked at a quokka sanctuary, and brought her youngest son to work with her often. Brian bonded with the animals there, and adopted their smile as his own. He grew close to one at the age of seven, one named Steve. He wished to bring the animal home as a pet, but it was decided that it would be a poor plan, so he visited the sanctuary often to play with Steve. Brian displayed some occasional oddities, but they were brushed off.

Everything changed one day when Brian was almost eight. While going to pick up his older brother from rugby practice, his parents and himself were involved in a fatal accident. Had it not been for Brian’s magic, he probably would have been killed as well. His parents car was slammed off the road by a huge semi-truck, and they also hit a grove of trees. When Brian woke up, the first thing he saw was his parents, dead, in the front seats of the car. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the eight year old boy trying desperately to wake his parents.

For a few months after the accident Brian refused to do much of anything. He sat in his room, barely ate, and refused to speak. It was only after his older brother mentioned Steve, that he started to perk up. His aunt and uncle, whom had gotten custody of the two boys, brought Brian to the quokka sanctuary that Brian started talking, but only to Steve. Realizing that the young boy would only open up to the creature, his aunt and uncle started on the paperwork for them to bring the two young boys and the quokka back to the United States with them. There were quite a few legal battles, and paperwork issues, but they finally got the permission, two years later.

By then the ten year old was displaying more acts of magic, that stumped his guardians, brother and his older female cousin. She had grown to resent how much attention Brian was getting from her parents. She tried to claim he was making it all up, and that he was fine. She started picking on him when no one was around, calling him names, and telling him he was all alone since he only had a dumb animal as a friend.

Then next year his whole family was surprised when a young witch showed up from Salem Witchs’ Institue. She informed them of Brian’s gift and went through all the things they would need to know for young Brian and him starting at the new school that year. This put the final nail in the coffin for Brian and his cousin to ever get along. She started calling him freak, and making fun of him. However, once he got to school he started putting on a mask of happiness and friendliness and made friends amongst his peers. He much prefers being at school than home.

Mark Fields- Uncle by marriage. One of Brian and Tony’s guardians. He is usually busy with work, so isn’t home around much. Not fond of Steve the quokka.
Misty Fields- Cousin. At eighteen, she is an angry teenager that hates her two younger cousins, claiming they took her parents from her. She especially resents Brian, since he needs the most care and attention. She tries to claim he is making up his problems, but is usually silence. Will make fun of Brian and pick on him when they are alone.

<sub>Despite standing at a height of 5'3 with a small frame, Ariadne is cute but ready for battle. She is very much the spitting image of her mother, inheriting everything from the high cheekbones to the bright red hair and pale skin. She has her father's eyes, however, a light blueish gray with heavy eyelashes.

She tends to dress pretty casually but not lazily. Generally, Ariadne wears a lot of black but also loves to sport colors like green, yellow, pink, and blue. In warm weather she wears light shirts but, due to her intense insecurity over her blindingly pale legs, normally wears pants. Although she does love dresses and sports a lot of cute ones in the fall and winter over a pair of tights and boots. Fall, being her favorite season, is when her obsession for jackets becomes apparent. Her nails are normally painted either red or a dark shade that contrasts against her pale skin. Jewelry wise, she wears a lot of earrings, rings, and necklaces-nothing too gaudy, though.</sub>

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Ariadne isn't unfriendly, but it certainly takes some effort to break through her tough shell. It's not really that she's shy or antisocial but making friends and communicating with others in general has always been difficult for her. Whether it's due to her habit of putting herself in awkward situations or her quiet demeanor, Ariadne has always been seen as somewhat of a lone wolf. She's often lost in her thoughts or too busy doing something that requires her focused attention. She enjoys being alone but hates the feeling of loneliness itself therefore she requires and needs to be around people in order to stay sane. But it's tough to be as emotionally guarded as Ariadne is, especially when all you really want sometimes is someone to talk to. It's safe to say that she is as stubborn as they come and absolutely refuses to seek help if she is perfectly capable of taking care of her own issues. She does not like to come off as weak and it says a lot about your relationship with her if she feels comfortable enough to shed her emotional barrier in front of you. After all, Ariadne bottles up her emotions, too afraid to show them for fear of being rejected or ridiculed.

Ariadne is not shy, though. Awkward and insecure, yes, but she has no problem with saying what's on her mind. As a matter of fact, she's a very honest person. Be wary of asking her for her opinion, however, because she will tell you exactly what she thinks without hesitation. She does not believe in sugarcoating things. This is not to say that she's mean as Ariadne is a very polite person. She was raised to treat others with respect and kindness for there is not enough time in life to waste being bitter or hateful. Though Ariadne is not quick to judge others, she is certainly a firm believer in listening to your gut when it speaks up. And so she is cautious of those who rub her the wrong way. Loyal and reliable, once you become apart of her life she will do anything for you. She can hold a grudge though, and sometimes, when terribly hurt by someone, will shut you off completely. It's one of her biggest flaws that she hates to apologize or admit when she is wrong. And when she does actually apologize, she genuinely means it. For the most part, Ariadne doesn't normally dwell too much on other people's opinions of her, but she is still young and therefore insecure. She wants to be admired but hates to let that aspect of her show. She dreams of big things even if she's not entirely sure what she wants in life yet.

Ariadne is very witty and intelligent. She is very opinionated and is never afraid to speak up in class or to call someone out for being unfair or unjust. There is a certain charm to Ariadne in the fact that, although she is generally very sweet, she has some bite to her. Ariadne is stubborn, sarcastic, and on her best (and sometimes worst) days, she will not hesitate to snap back at anyone who tries to trample over her. All in all, she is kind at heart and tries to put out as much love into the world as she can, hoping that it will all come back to her eventually.

H I S T O R Y

Ariadne was born at the stroke of midnight on October 31st. At least that’s what her parents used to tell people when they recanted the story of her birth to anyone that would listen. As her father, Jules, would always say, Ariadne came out kicking and screaming. And she liked to think that that’s the way she wanted to go out as well-fighting.

She grew up in a relatively normal household, as normal as a home can be when you include magic and the wizarding world. Both of Ariadne’s parents were wizards, and it became apparent that she was also magical by the time she was seven when she accidentally caused her cousin to begin sprouted little branches after he shoved her off of a swing set. Her abilities hadn’t been obvious up to that point, but both of her parents were delighted to know that their only child was a magical person like them.

Ariadne lived in Pennsylvania until she was 14 or 15. Her father worked as a Healer and her mother was a magizoologist who was also a journalist working for the Daily Star. She was close to both of her parents, though Ariadne was particularly close to her mother. She was the spitting image of Cecilia but their similarities didn’t just end in the looks department, Ariadne took many traits from her mother’s personality as well. Their bond was more than just mother and daughter, Cecilia was Ariadne’s best friend and maybe the only person who really understood her.

They weren’t a perfect family, but the Tunes were very happy for a long time. Ariadne missed both of her parents terribly while she was away at school but looked forward to every break and holiday when she could be with them again. She was a very good student and took her studies seriously, always being close to the top of her class each semester. When she was thirteen, her mother died quite suddenly on a trip in Canada. Apparently she had gone there in order to study the mysterious forest trolls but had underestimated how aggressive their species could be when they sensed an invader. Cecilia died instantly from blunt force trauma to the head, not even giving Ariadne or her father a chance to say goodbye. The news of her mother’s death devastated her and she had to take some time off from school to be with her family. Things changed drastically between Ariadne and her father. Once close, they slowly drifted apart. Ariadne’s pain turned to anger that she unreasonably directed at her father. Her father didn’t understand her like Cecilia, didn’t know how to comfort her or help her like Cecilia, and that caused Ariadne to almost blame her mother’s death on her father. Her love for him was still there, but without Cecilia, neither of the remaining Tunes knew how to communicate with each other. Jules sold the house when Ariadne was fourteen and she all but moved in with her mother’s sister, Bea, afterwards. It hurt her to be so distant from her the only parent she had but Ariadne was too stubborn to reach out.

Despite the sad circumstances she had found herself in, Ariadne tried to remain positive for her dead mother’s sake. It was somewhat comforting for her to be staying with her Aunt Bea and her family. Bea and Cecilia were very close and so having someone who seemed to understand her pain was nice. She still keeps in contact with her father, but these days he is very “busy at work,” and hardly makes time to see her.

F A M I L Y

The Tune family claimed to be strictly pureblood for generations until Ariadne was born. During Voldemort's reign they were silent supporters of his cause but changed those views somewhat after his defeat. It became less popular to publicly detest muggle witches and wizards, which might be part of the reason why Julius' parents did not outright disown him when they caught wind of his marriage to a muggleborn witch. The Tune's are wealthy and had prominent positions in the Ministry of Magic from the 18th century to the late 19th century.

On her mother's side, there isn't much to say about the Pendletons. Her mother, Cecilia, was the second known witch to come out of their family after her great-great grandmother, Sonia. Cecilia only had one other sibling, her little sister Bea who never manifested any kind of magical power.

Personality
Elizabeth is a fierce girl, determined and thinks logically, especially when it comes to her academics. She will pursue her interests and goals with intense desire, but never recklessly, always thinking about her actions deeply before acting when there is time, and reflecting on her actions later when there isn't time to think before acting. When it comes to interacting with other students however, it's not so simple for her. Elizabeth also doesn't make friends easily, not quite feeling comfortable opening up, and not just about being transgender. But once she does open up to people, it is an indicator that she trusts them, and will be calm and talk to them. And if anyone does become her friend, she becomes protective and she will defend her friends with her life if it came to it. Unfortunately as with most transgender individuals, Elizabeth has a darker side where she will deal with depression from time to time, and during which she will grow withdrawn and actively try to get alone time, during which she may break down and there is little that even her friends can do but let her depression run its course... Except bring her copious amounts of chocolate.

History: Elizabeth Louise Warren was born Alexander Marcus Warren, to Adam And Beth-Ann Warren, God-Father Carl Richards. Both her father and God-Father graduated from the Salem Witches' Institute, Warren and Good house respectively, both near the top of their class. She went to live with her God-Father and his husband, Hadrian Cooper, after her parents died in a car crash when she only a year and a half old. As she grew up, as Alexander, she always felt different and always talked about wanting to be a mother. Eventually Carl Richards told Elizabeth that she couldn't be a mother, not as Alexander, and told her why. When she asked if there was a way to become a mother, they realised she might be serious. Carl and his husband talked things over and agreed that when she turned ten they would make the offer.

When she turned ten, they did ask her about her desire to transition again, and she gave the same answer. They moved to give her a fresh start, presenting a girl and found a therapist for her who prescribed anti-androgen pills, which were boosted by their pharmacist's magic. This prevented the start of her male puberty. It was next year on her 11th birthday that she received a letter from the Headmistress of the Salem Witches Institute, but addressed to Alexander. Confused, they asked what had happened that would catch their attention, because Elizabeth never had used any accidental magic around them. She said that occasionally small things would happen at school, but only when she was around. Carl and his husband quickly sent a letter to the Headmistress to explain Elizabeth's situation, who promptly replied with a corrected acceptance letter and a guarantee that the young witch would be watched after and allowed to be herself. Having been taught fully about the magical community, she has her heart set on being an Auror. During Yule break of her second year she was approved for Estrogen Therapy, allowing her to develop more feminine characteristics.

Family: Elizabeth never knew much about her blood parents, only what Carl and Hadrian would tell her about her father. Some of the stories of their glory days back at Salem. Quidditch in particular. They never knew much about Elizabeth's mother.

Carl Richards, 37, Graduate of Salem Witches Institute, Good House. A Chaser for the Good team back in his day, Carl was skilled at charm magic as well as a skilled Herbologist. And was probably most remembered for bringing his boyfriend to the Yule ball one year.

Hadrian Cooper, 40 Graduate of Hogwarts, Hufflepuff House. Hadrian was a seeker in his days at Hogwarts, and a highly regarded by his teachers, especially his Care for Magical Creatures class.

He's cute and he's fun and we've played chess against each other a number of times. But he always feels like he's holding part of himself back. I think I like him, and don't say a thing about it to him.
