Fei

Things were about to get extremely bloody, Fei could even feel the hatred within the room strengthen. One look at Jessi made the startling realization that the two were in no shape to win more obvious. She could feel the energy slowly draining from her body, feel the heat within her growing weaker. Part of her felt even more enraged, the callow slugs were beyond frustrating. There had to be a plan… A way out… Plans scattered through her brain, searching for an answer, when she looked down to find a cup of the rubbish ale leaking close to her feet. Scattered everywhere across the room, in fact, were bottles of ale, waiting to be spilled. A wicked grin covered Fei’s lips. She needed to get Jessi out of here.

Before she could make any movements toward her plan, a pig-headed buffoon stepped toward them with an axe. She didn’t even flinch as Jessi positioned his spear for the man. She did however blink when he was impaled by a single arrow and there standing at the front of the door was none other than Emilia, Puppeteer of Warovia, an enemy of her mother. People within the tavern paused and stood in silence as the woman gave them two options.

Fei’s eyes darkened with fury. The situation was beyond frustrating. Nothing would insult her mother more than taking the help of this woman but they might never get out of here if they didn’t accept. She sighed in annoyance. Even if the two had a way out, pissing off the host of the competition Fei needed to win might ruin any chance of collecting the relic.

Jessi spoke while Fei debated her options, promising his allegiance to her. It would come down to her decision then, as it should. Fei wasn’t sure what to do though, and found herself at a lost for words. She glanced at Emilia one last time. There was only one reason Fei had made the trek all the way here, something that would bring her the honor she deserved. Silently cursing to herself, Fei’s eyes glowed with her fiery anger as she spoke.

“My reasons for being here are quite obvious. I wish to compete in your competition, puppeteer. As for our offer, I believe we will accept. However, you must swear on your word that no harm will come to either me or my companion,” Fei almost instantly regretted giving Jessi such a title but no hint of it showed on her face. It would not do well to show weakness in front of Emilia.

Glancing back at the alcohol, Fei thought there was no reason why the disgusting tavern should escape punishment. Casually, she let a small breath of fire light her pointer finger looking down at the alcohol. Perhaps Jessi would understand, perhaps not. It didn’t matter, either way, when the moment the two left the tavern, it would no longer exist.

Tori

Tori was grateful for Rainer’s permission to head to Arcadia and painted on a smile as Durga, the ever antagonistic Durga, decided to try and pick a fight or something.

“Wow, Durga. You powers of observation are as incredible as ever. Yes I am going off to Arcadia, just like every other time I’ve taken leave and requested permission to go there. How did you ever deduce my destination? Oh, I know! I always go there! If you’re really that worried about me come along. There is literally no way for me to take up an entire airship by myself so maybe if you leave some of your ego behind you’ll fit!” sniffing Tori walks through the window and drops to the ground lightly before walking to the port.

Upon arrival, Tori was actually smiling as she watched the preparations get underway. Turning as she heard the familiar voices of the foxy twins who graciously invited her to accompany them to Aquaria. Smile drooping when they mentioned another guest and even have him join in on her Arcadia expedition... well she supposed a pack mule wouldn’t go amiss. Blankly staring for a moment, Tori sized him up as to whether he would actually be of any help.

"Sure. It's not currently my place do dismiss help from a willing pack mule. Besides, it's their ship. If they want you, then what can I say about it? Although it is odd that you speak of 'heading to Arcadia' as if walking down to the general store. Don't get eaten pack mule." spinning on her heel, Tori walked off.

---

Despite her misgivings, Tori managed to enjoy her trip in the airship, largely by ignoring everyone else and reading to pass the time. Once she arrived Tori looked somewhat... peaceful looking over the trading capital of the Imperium. Aquaria had a refined and refreshing atmosphere that made her wish to never leave. She had actually applied more than once to be relocated to the Intelligence Division branch in the city, but never heard back from the department in charge. Following the twins, Tori went to pay her respects to their mother.

---

“They were no bother at all Lady Berlina. Your beautiful girls were gracious enough to allow me to ride with them on the way here” smiling, Tori always enjoyed the company of Berlina Aquarian, she was kind enough to actually put up with Tori’s presence and found that all her stress seemed to wash away in her serene presence. If she could live a relaxing life, working in this library, Tori would be content. Surprised when Berlina brought up Alex, Tori briefly turned around and was shocked to see the pack mule still there.

“You’re still here? I thought you tricked your way here to pawn some gold watch or something. You're an odd one, pack mule.” turning back around, Alex’s presence was immediately dismissed once more and smiled at Berlina.

“Lady Berlina, no need to be modest, you know perfectly well how important your role is and if I may speak on a personal note, how important you were in helping me chose my career. Without you I wouldn’t be where I am today.” bowing politely she raised herself up again “I don’t wish to impose so after I contact the local Intelligence Division I should have a more accurate timetable of when I can set off for Arcadia. I’m more than willing to let your daughters accompany me if that is your wish, it would simply be an extra two pages to formally add them to my expedition party.”

The trip was fairly long and Alex was definitely kept busy, as he had expected he would be. He had no complaint with that though, since he was used to doing grunt labor. He hadn't always been a master thief after all, and had his own share of regular skills. And what he lacked in those the twins were more than willing to provide.

If there was one complaint, it was their current companion Tori. Needless to say she did barely any more work than was absolutely required of her, spent most of her time reading, and was utterly insulting towards him at near every opportunity. He had gotten the understanding that she worked for the Imperium, but that was no excuse. If he hadn't been in hiding he would have beat her up, but sadly he had his cover to keep so he could only suffer through it.

But at last they arrived at Aquaria, the trading heart of the Imperium and a stop on their journey to their final destination. This place was practically a thieves heaven, and that made it all the more annoying to Alex. Not that there wasn't money in it, it was just too easy. With all the profit flowing around here it was like taking candy from a baby to do crime. He wanted something with a challenge.

Departing the ship, he was confronted by the sisters rapidly departing, earning a smile and some laughter on his part. "Sure, go ahead. I'd love to come with." He could use the meal and he wouldn't refuse the hospitality. So with that in mind he followed after them, to the Grand Library or wherever.

-----------------

Alex ended up seated at a table with the twins and their mother, who definitely looked similar enough for there to be an obvious resemblance. He had put on his best smile and affable attitude, playing the part for this family gathering that he had walked into. At least there was food to make up for it, which he sampled when able.

"Oh no, there was no problem," he replied with a smile and a shake of his head. "They worked me ragged but that was part of the deal so I can't complain." True enough, unfortunately. Well, he had survived it and would continue to do so.

The insinuations following on the heels of that were something he would have objected to, but Tori made a fine distraction as he insulted her, as she had done for the entire trip." Yes," he replied as he rolled his eyes, bringing sarcasm to bear. "I hitched a multi day trip from the Capitol to Aquaria so I could sell a gold watch. Because that would definitely be an effective use of my time." Apparently she hadn't paid attention to any of the conversations he had taken part in at any point since they left port. Or when leaving port, for that matter. Or before they left.

He nodded then as Berlina introduced herself, respectful and courteous to the authority figure no matter how humble she might be. He knew better than to draw the ire of a person in a position of authority. Friends in high places were always a useful thing. "A pleasure to meet you ma'am. I'm Alex Kincaid, lowly grunt worker and aspiring treasure hunter. Though I guess everyone is doing that these days."

"Well, dead-hand spiders are the darndest things. I've never seen nor heard of two of them being in the same place. I've never seen nor heard of a baby dead-hand spider, or a old dead-hand spider. As for the lights..." Měihóu looked back at the spider, pausing for a moment, the spider also pausing to maintain distance.

"See, how dead-hand spiders work is they just follow sentient prey around until it gets killed by something else, then they drag it back, web it up, and then that's where the lights comes from. Always the same as the prey's tome color." Měihóu begins searching again, eventually finding a promising stretch of soft ground rather than stone ceiling. She begins prodding around with her staff.

"I've heard theories that they're psychopomps, gathering the souls of the dead and sending them on their way. I've heard stories that they trap the souls in their webs eternally. I do know that they have some preternatural sense of who's gonna die soon, cause I've only heard one or two stories of people not dying once a dead-hand spider started following them around, and it's always a near miss." Měihóu finished finding and clearing a small path down into the room below. Chen could judge that this seemed to be about where he had estimated the peat that had covered the doorway below to be. "So, on the plus side, we're gonna find something today. On the downside, it's gonna be dangerous. And you might get your soul eaten afterwards."

Chen jumped down and began looking around. "Danger is nothing new in my line of work. Having my soul eaten is however. So I suppose I will need to be more careful than usual." Chen saw some peat nearby but shrugged it off. It was irrelevant to his knowledge. Just some plant life, nothing new there. "Will you require some assistance getting down?"

"No, not particularly." Měihóu looked down at Chen with an expression of mild confusion for a moment before shrugging it off.

"Alright then." Chen replied as he observed the area around him. "This is quite a dirty place. Unsurprising, considering how nobody has made it through here in quite a long time."

Měihóu rides her staff down into the room after Chen, "Rather, I'd say it's quite dirty because of how many people come here. There are so many visitors here." Měihóu picks up an earthworm, raising it up to make her point before setting it back down. "Certain humans have a definition of clean that few others share." She sets the worm back down gently.

Whatever thoughts the two travelers shared with one another were suddenly shattered as the sound of a loud, inhuman roaring came from the current chamber they stood in. The sound echoed all around them, the sound of something vaguely animal-like jarring even the toughest of nerves. However, there was something extra to the howl, as if whatever caused it was in extreme pain. And then, there was something else hidden in the darkness.

“Mpppf! Mmppf!”

Chen looked towards the strange sounds with a blank expression and then looked at his current partner. "Do you recognize those sounds at all? If so, does it react badly to light?" He asked while pulling out a small lighter. He then created some ice in the shape of a circle to use as a sort of focusing lens for light. "Nevermind, we don't have time for caution." He flicked the lighter on and illuminated the area where the noise was coming from.

"Kind of sounds like someone with a gag, but there aren't many people to kidnap down here." Měihóu advances, covering her eyes for but a moment with her hand, and when they showed again, they were clearly not human eyes, having enhanced her low-light and infared vision, at the cost of clearly distinguishing colors.

The moment Chen's lighter was brought out into the darkness, a chain reaction occured in which the entire room was lit up. Massive pillars each filled with lit blue fire illuminated the sheer size of the chamber as well as its single occupant. The roaring was louder than ever and the sudden appearance of a light made a wolf-like creature narrow its eyes. It flinched as the room was suddenly illuminated by the flickering of blue torches before its red eyes focused on the two individuals before it.

The creature looked to be a Beastkin, which in itself was impossible since Beastkin were rumored to be an extinct race. Nevertheless, the wolf merely growled out again with anger and a spark of defiance. It wasn’t like she was in the best position to answer after all. Massive chains pinned her body to the floor, digging into her flesh and fur causing fresh blood to well up over patches of already dried wounds. A thick, metal muzzle had been fitted over the creature’s face, turning all of her cries into silenced mumbles, leaving her to roar out instead.

She continued glaring at the two intruders, tail swishing as she instinctively backed away from them. The only people who visited these dark chambers were Imperium priests who sought to ensure themselves that she remained chained up and hidden away from the world.

"You know, something tells me this person is trustworthy. But I have no idea where this thought came from, and my head's pretty unreliable about people. What do you think?"

"Considering that it's not only hurt, but afraid as well, I doubt it would do anything to us if we freed it. And if it did, we could easily defend ourselves. We should free it." Chen put away his lighter and dropped the ice in his hand. He slowly walked towards the Beastkin and stopped just outside of its reach. "I am about to freeze your restraints the make them brittle enough to shatter. Do not be alarmed." Chen warned as ice began to creep along the floor and towards the Beastkin. It then began to crawl onto the chains of the Beastkin and freeze it.

"Eeesh, that's gotta be chilly. Metal is super conducty. Anyway, I've got super strength if your ice needs a boost."

The Beastkin growled, noting that the male referred to her as an "it". Well that was one score off of the creature not clawing their eyes out. Still, the Beastkin tried to nod before letting the man do his work. Then, all of a sudden, the small chamber began to rumble slightly as sprouts of bladed chains emerged from the very ground and slithered over to the two travelers in an unnatural manner.

The Beastkin knew that the chains served as a defense mechanism against bandit and seekers so it was obvious these two weren’t sent by the Imperium. Still, that alone didn’t give her incentive to help them as well, considering that she couldn’t even move.

Chen jumped back when the bladed chains emerged and moved his ice off of the creature. He then decided to focus primarily on these bladed chains and began to freeze those instead. "We should find where the chains emerge and collapse it. No opening means no blades." Chen said as he focused on trying to keep the blades from moving. He layered ice on them to try and freeze them to the floor.

"I think you're looking at the opening, aka, the magical seal thing. Anyway, so long! It was fun." Měihóu leaped into the air, twirling her staff around her once, by the apex of her jump appearing back in her most recent, most powerful, most monkey form. She swung her staff with all her considerable might, shapeshifting the end of her staff to be heavier mid swing against one of the chains holding the beast. This was preferably aimed at one of the spots that was still icey if there was one, but with highest priortity towards a chain dragging on the ground, so that the impact wouldn't tear one of the beastkin's arms off if the chain didn't break. Měihóu relied on her motion and Chen's actions to stay free of the bladed chains for at least the moment required to swing.

Chen noticed what Měihóu was trying to do and focused some ice on the spot she was aiming for. This also had the unfortunate effect of drawing some ice off of a nearby chain, but it was closer to Chen then it was to Měihóu. He could take the pain if it hit him.

The Beastkin was a little amazed at the spectacle. Seriously, who were these clowns? The female had straight up turned into a monkey, now swinging her staff towards the base of the chains holding her. The Beastkin tried not to wince, shutting her eyes as the end came down on the binding lashing her together. With a heavy clunk the metal shattered on impact.

Chen seemed to get the same idea for he too focused his ice on the chain Měihóu was aiming for. This has the effect of weakening it, resulting in the shattering result. But as he could imagine, that left the other chains to hit him square on with their blades. Only a few more of the bonds remained and the Beastkin squirmed, trying to show that the chains were reforming again slowly.

"Owww.. Didn't think that through." Měihóu actually did wince from the impact, and a little more after, several small bleeding wounds marking her flesh where the shrapnel from the shattering metal had impacted her. Seeing Chen get hit, "Chen!", Měihóu yelled and leaped into the tangle of chains slashing at him, bowling into them and dragging them away from him with the like she was far far heavier than she should be. A keen eye would note her bleeding slowed, her skin took on an unnatural texture, light not diffusing through it like normal flesh, leaving her a strange ashen tint to her complexion. "Let's switch, you focus on the chains binding the gal, I want to be able to break them without throwing shrapnel around!" Extending her staff forward horizontally, the main body of the staff began growing and bending into a semi-circle around Chen and the Beastkin, and also sending off small branches to stick through links in the chains seeking for Chen or to repair the bind on the Beastkin. However, doing so split Měihóu's attention away from her "Stone Skin" transformation, meaning the chains she had tackled and aggro'd might be able to pierce her defense.

Chen grit his teeth as several of the blades hit him and ripped through his flesh. He grunted slightly and watched Měihóu tackle the blades to try and save him. "Thank you. That was unnecessary, but thank you." His wounds were already freezing over and the bleeding was basically gone. "I will focus on it's chains." Chen observed the Beastkin's reaction to being called an it and a small, almost miniscule frown crossed his face. "I will focus on HER chains to the best of my ability." Chen began to focus on trying to freeze the binding chains.

The Beastkin grunted in muffled appreciation as someone finally recognized her as a...well, a her. With the two fighter's attention divided the verocity of the chains began to slow down. The ones surrounding the Beastkin in their constant cycle of growing back were soon reduced to frozen brittles while Měihóu's efforts bought enough time for Chen to finish his work.

It only took a little more, the Beastkin's eyes narrowing as one by one each chain fell apart. Only when the second to last one snapped did she growl loudly, clawing and tearing at the floor. With a roar she snapped the last chain and was launched forward, tackling Chen to the ground as she landed on his chest. Her escape caused a chain reaction, the ruin's trap soon falling apart as the magic sustatining them was broken.

One by one each bladed chain fell to the floor lifelessly, the blue torches on the walls switching to a bright orange color. Well then. Mission accomplished. The Beastkin shook herself to get rid of anything lingering in her fur before frowning down at Chen, who was currently making a good seat for her.

"And who the fuck are you two?"

Chen narrowed his eyes and let all of the ice on the now broken chains melt. "I am Chen. I work for a individual known as The Librarian. That is who I am." A few seconds passed and Chen's eyes returned to their normal blank stare. "It's considered rude to ask somebody's name without offering your own in turn."

Měihóu's initial response to the question is lots and lots of laughter. "I usually don't get the opportunity to do this so frequently, ahem." Taken a moment before she begins the pacing of a well rehearsed speech, "I'm Měihóu Niángniang, the loving fighter!" Měihóu proclaimed to her "audience" of two with an upraised staff. Měihóu began twirling her staff around arms and neck, the great unwieldy object somehow moving with grace. "The great sage of love and warrior-god of freedom. I see beauty in every heart and permit no body to be shackled!" She stopped for a stage whisper, the staff somehow continuously looping around one wrist held away despite Měihóu barely moving her hand, "Except the fun kind. Which yours didn't look like." She continued back into her "routine", "When I say I can be anything you want, I actually mean it! When my staff adjudicates conflicts, it inflicts no true damage!" She winked at the "actually mean it". At "no true damage", she brought the staff down hard, on a single raised pinky. A crack could be heard, yet the pinky did not bend. In another stage whisper aside, she informed them, "Even though that should have broken it, my pinky'll be fine in like, ten minutes. It's only stunned."

Then, rejoining formation as though nothing had happened, "So, that clear up all your questions about me?"

"Yeah, no, not really," the Beastkin said indifferently, glaring between both of them. At least this Chen knew when to shut up when no one else seemed to care. That alone already put him in the good graces of the Beastkin. As for monkey chick, she could learn a thing or two from him in terms of shutting the hell up when nobody asked for it.

"I guess I should say who I am now. Name's Ruxen. There. Now piss off," the wolf Beastkin announced, pawing off of Chen and casually heading for the exit of the chamber. "I appreciate the help and all...but there's really no reason for us to hang around anymore. We're not friends, buddies, or pals."

"Bye bye, see you next time you get captured!"

"Watch out for the Frost Wasps on your way out." Chen called out as he continued to lie down. He looked at his torso and sighed. Her pounce had reopened a few cuts. They began to ice over once more, but it still hurt. "So now what?" He asked as he stared at the ceiling.

"And the big mysterious growly thing."

God's Shattering

Exilia

Emilia didn't wasted time in leading Fei and Jessi to her residence, the remnant of an old temple partially submersed in the sand that she had defiled reworked into a palace of sorts. A few servants came to greet them, but they had a listless, almost machine-like behavior. Knowing Emilia it wouldn't be hard to guess why, though.

Completely different from the lifeless servants that looked after the Puppeteer of Warovia, was a scrawny, one eyed thug that approached Emilia flashing a yellowed smile that missed a few teeth, while rubbing his hands together. Emilia didn't even spared the time to look at the man, before throwing a small bag stuffed of silver coins in his ghastly hands. "Your information was useful." Emilia commented,to which the man replied with a slight bow, before going away chuckling.

• • •

Minutes later, Emilia welcomed the Imperial duo to the palace's atrium before saying, "If you so do wish, the palace is yours to stay for as long as you may need. The servants can show you the way for any place you wish, but I fear I only posses one free room for your disposition. Fear not, for it has a queen bed."

"Now, if you don't have any further business or questions with me, I shall take my leave until the time for dinner." Emilia waited to see if either Jessi or Fei wold say something and then took her leave, after just one more warning. "I advise to avoid the dungeon, though. You'll not like what you'll find there."

Aquaria

"Fufufufu, Tori my dear, you continue on being naive to this day. Have you forget that I'm also part of the Intelligence?" Berlina said with a smart smile on her lips, "Of course I knew you were coming and had all the papers ready yesterday. All that's needed is the two of you to sign here, since I'm the legal representative of my daughters, I have already taken the liberty of authorizing their departure."

Indeed, one could never underestimate the shrewdness of Berlina Aquarian, she might look all goofy and laid back but there was a really good reason why she got her job.

• • •

Anyway, the family gathering would continue for a few more minutes, before Berlina had to go back to work. A mere couple hours later and the twins were already back at the port, ready to ride an airship to Arcadia, displaying signs of their ever present love for adventure.

"Ok, all hands aboard! Our next destination is the unmapped ruins at the Northeastern Arcadia. I hope you're ready for trouble!" Sienna yelled from the top of her lungs as she ran inside the transport.

"Likewise, Oneesama," Linea said in her usual monotone as she followed her sister, "also, they say those ruins are inhabited by elemental spirits. By the way, make it double." Linea snickered, unable to resist the urge of completing her sister's joke.

Jessi

This was a very confusing situation the two found themselves in. Why was Emilia being so friendly to them? Did she forget Fei’s mother was the one that killed her father? Or was there some hidden agenda behind the puppet masters hospitality? Even though it was probably the later, Jessi and Fei were in no position to question it. After the short explanation of what their accommodations would be, Jessi thanked Emilia and followed the servants to his and Fei’s quarters.

Once they arrived and the servant was dismissed, Jessi looked around in amazement. Tapestries lined the walls adding color and life to the room. Furniture of excellent craftsmanship filled the room just enough that it didn’t feel empty, but far from over crowded. There was even a porch if you wanted a view of the desert town. Finally the bed. It was not just a queen, it was fit for one as well. The sheets were the finest silk he had seen with a large fur cover that looked to be from a lion like beast.

Never had he seen such a beautiful room, let alone stayed in one. It was so impressive that for a moment he forgot that there was only one bed for the two of them. Once this fact came back to him, he knew he would need to forfeit the bed. ”I’ll. Take the floor.” he stated just to make sure his intentions were clear. As much as he longed to lay on what he imagined was the closest you could get to a cloud, his report to Asgard was already gonna be a shit storm. Getting attacked at a tavern, letting an ogress kidnap the princess, and then being saved and staying with her mortal enemy. Last thing he needed to top that list would be Slept in same bed as her daughter.

With that he set his spear against the wall and sat down at a writing desk in the corner of the room. Undoing the leather straps on his armor he began taking each piece off and dropping it to the ground with a large *thud*. Jessi felt 100 times lighter as the weight was literally removed from his shoulders. Last but not least, he pulled his headband off and tossed it onto the desk. As it left contact with Jessi it transformed into it’s tome form, a gray and sherwood green book with intricate gold details across the covers.

Once Jessi no longer had his tome, all his senses dulled. Things moved faster around him, colors became less vibrant, distinctive sounds now all blurred together in the background, but most importantly, all the pain in his body dulled. He was probably bruised and maybe had a few cracked bones, not to mention he was exhausted from all the fighting, but for now he could finally relax.

The silence in the room started to feel awkward, and although previous attempts at conversation were met with backlash, Jessi figured he’d give it another go. ”So. She seems nice. How long you think before she tries to turn us into one of those puppet things?”

The Beastkin huffed as she padded along the dark corridors of Rexicorg. The more she thought about this place, the more pissed off she became in noting that the Imperium had locked her in it. Again. For far too many times for her to count at this point. Her sense of smell helped her navigate the ruins a little though it was difficult given the dank must that lingered in the air.

Her ears and eyes would have to serve as main guiding points for now. Hearing a low hiss immediately made her give pause and narrow her eyes. To assume one was alone in the ruins of Rexicorg was a fool’s mistake as all sorts of creatures and things lurked all around these walls. Ruxen would know. For as long as she could remember, she had lived with these monsters.

“Like I’m gonna let that stop me,” she growled to herself, continuing forward on all fours. Only when she heard the skittering of something nearby did she pause again. Something wasn’t right, and it felt like she was walking right onto the set of a horror movie….

Chen got up and began to refreeze his wounds to prevent further bleeding. He looked over at Měihóu and stared for a few seconds. "I will be leaving now, my wounds prevent me from continuing this exploration. Good luck." He finished with that statement and walked in the same direction as Ruxen. Perhaps she would be willing to escort him out.

"Excuse me Ms. Ruxen? Are you busy at the moment?" He called out as he rushed over to her. He winced and grabbed his chest, he reapplied some ice which had begun to melt and walked at a steady pace towards her. "I require assistance in leaving. I'm afraid that I am unable to leave by myself in my current condition."

Chen heard something skittering nearby and frowned. "I'm not sure where you're going at the moment, but I can provide assistance in exchange for protection. Would that be acceptable?" He asked as he flicked his pin and summoned his shield.

That about sums it up. Měihóu glanced at the spider, figured there was still danger, and decided to clandestinely escort the others out. In the most adorable way possible.

“Great. And what the hell do you want?” Ruxen replied with annoyance as the guy from earlier ran up to catch up. “Yeah, I’m kind of busy. Busy escaping this shit hole. Look, I get that I’m supposed to owe you something but don’t expect me to just lead you casually. If I’m going to help you I’ll expect something back. And no, that doesn’t mean a free pet.”

She was about to say more when the flash of a squirrel caught her attention instead. Instincts kicking in, she suddenly pounced forward with little regard for Chen as she bounded along the labyrinth of Rexicorg. Sure, on some level she could sense that the small animal was just a transformed state, no doubt of that monkey chick…but that still meant a free squirrel to chase.

“Oi! Slow down so I can fucking catch you,” Ruxen called out, leading Chen deeper and deeper into the ruins. The more she ran, the less certain she began to become about her location as a whole. A groan escaped as she realized a squirrel out of all things had led her astray.

“Fucking fantastic! This is all your fault you asshat,” she snarled at the squirrel before trying to find her way around. She was about to let loose another string of profanities to vent out her frustrations when the ruins suddenly began to tremble. Her ears raised up, Ruxen paused in her step to focus in on whatever had caused those vibrations…uh oh.

Only then did she realize that they stood before a long hallway, its end unknown as it was shaded in darkness all throughout. But something was racing towards them. Something large and angry, a wild denizen of the ruins. After some time, the creature was revealed, its nostrils flared as something shiny and green reflected in one of its eyes.

Chen Chideta

@The 42nd Gecko@TheWindel

"I see. I was unaware that you're personal freedom was not sufficient. Would an employment opportunity suffice?" Chen asked as they walked through the halls. "Why would I pet you?"

Just as he asked this, a movement caught his eye and Ruxen was off like a lightning bolt. "Please don't... go." Chen sighed and trailed after Ruxen, forming ice on his feet to skate after her. Many turns were made and Chen had to refreeze his wounds many times due to melting. A few minutes passed as he followed Ruxen and the thing she was chasing (a squirrel?) throughout the Rexicorg. Luckily his ice would leave a trail from their original position, unless some maniac decides to smash it or melt it.

Ruxen finally stopped and Chen came to a stop with her. "Did that satisfy your animal like instincts? Or do we need to chase after another wild creature first?" He asked in a angry voice. He took a few deep breaths and calmed down. "Forgive me for that. I have had a long and somewhat stressful day. Tensions are high."

He looked at the squirrel and frowned. What in the world was a squirrel doing this deep in the Rexicorg? There was no way that any animal this defenseless could even make it this far in, much less survive for any lengthy period of time. Evidently now was not the time for such questions though, as a rumbling echoed through the halls.

"Oh joy. Time to handle this I suppose." Chen stepped forward and concentrated on what power he had left. He began covering the floor in front of him with thick ice, hopefully thick enough to make the rhino slip, maybe fall and knock itself out if they were lucky. He grimaced as he focused all of his power on creating that slippery floor. The ice covering his wounds melted and they began to bleed again. He stopped and collapsed on the ground panting. "I'm afraid that is as far as my assistance can extend. The rest is up to you."

Měihóu, now having a free moment to scrounge for resources and retaliate, now that Ruxen's chase has paused, throws an acorn at the side of Ruxen's head while she's distracted.

~Ruxen~

“Ow! Motherfuck,” Ruxen snarled, rubbing the side of her head as something small and sharp hit her. She whirled around before her eyes narrowed in spotting the squirrel. She would deal with that asshole much later…for now there was the raging rhino to handle at the moment. The Beastkin ignored Chen’s angry words since frankly he could go suck it too.

The only reason why she didn’t bite his head off with another stinging retort was because he immediately apologized right after. One problem solved, the obvious one still charging right for them. Thankfully Chen was on it in a heartbeat, taking the time to freeze the floor as the creature stumbled and spun around comically.

“Heh, thanks,” Ruxen muttered before running forward on all fours and leaping out with a fist clenched. Growling, she struck right as the rhino’s face spun her face. The resulting force made the creature snort in pain as it was spun the other way this time before crashing into the side of the ruin’s wall. Out cold and delirious, something popped out of the creature’s eye and landed near Chen’s feet and the squirrel.

It was that which caused the green shine earlier in the rhino’s eyes, the object that had possessed it to rampage so madly. A jewel that glimmered a dark hue of green only seen in the deep summer. A Legend Relic. Running back to Chen, Ruxen noted the thing before scowling.

“Well that was anti-climactic. We going or what?”

Fei

Keeping her nose up, Fei only half listened to the fake princess’s comments. The girl deserved no respect from Fei nor would she give her any. While it did seem odd Emilia was treating them with such kindness, Fei only assumed it was to get in favor with her mother. People always treated her differently, as they should. She escorted them from the rotten tavern, a place Fei would make sure to return to and completely ignite in fire. The scum there knew nothing of respect, the very reason they were wasting away in this dump.

She snuck a glance at her soldier and guard, pleasantly surprised he had survived the journey so far. Of course her mother would pick nothing but the best. Although she was positive she still didn’t need a guard, even if he was a huge help back at the tavern. She unconsciously rubbed her tome under her shirt. Sometimes she lost sight of the whole map and focused on a single area. The battle for the legendary relic would begin soon and she needed to prepare and store up her strength, that meant no more bar fights or violent outbursts. Fei also needed to find a source of fire and heat to replenish her magic.

The fake princess brought them to the room where they would be staying. It was beyond an insult Emilia had them share the room, especially when she discovered there was only a single bed. Fei flared her nostrils in anger and didn’t try to stop herself from speaking. Fei was always extremely sassy whenever she needed rest. “Ah, I suppose you share your bed with servants then? I fear in my culture, we do not.” A wicked smirk covered her face as she entered into the rather small chamber. It was far below what Fei was used to living in, her whole life was full of luxuries. It would have to do though.

Jessi spoke about taking the floor, a comment that wasn’t even necessary. Of course he would sleep on the floor. He was her guard, she was daughter of the mighty Asgard. Rolling her eyes, she simply stayed silent. She settled into the bed, sighing heavily as she did. Closing her eyes, she listened to clamor of Jessi undoing his armor and tried her best to relax despite the annoying sounds.

He broke the silence first, asking about Emilia and her servants. Fei had no interest in how she treated her slaves. It was no concern of Fei’s nor was it her business. “Fear not, Jessi. Should she even lay a finger on either of us, the Imperium will punish her. I am the daughter of the Asgard, afterall. Now, if you would please, stop making so much noise. I need to rest, I lost quite a bit of my fire from that pointless fight.”

Chen Chideta

@The 42nd Gecko@TheWindel

Chen passed out for a few seconds and his head hit the floor. When he woke up, the rhino was out cold, a green gem flew through the air towards Chen, and Ruxen was running back towards him. "Give me a moment." Chen waited a few seconds and got up off of the floor. He picked up the green gem off of the floor and his eyes widened significantly.

"We should get going now." Chen pocketed the Legend Relic in one of his inside jacket pockets and froze over as many of his wounds as possible. "The employment opportunity is still open if you're interested. I feel as though The Librarian would readily help you after how you've helped me." Chen began to walk forward but stopped and grimaced in pain. "Which way out?"

Jessi

”Yes ma’am.” Jessi replied once more knowing the “ma’am” part bothered Fei. He didn't blame her for wanting to rest, especially after the encounter they had, but he was getting a bit tired of her regal attitude. Heck she didn't even seem appreciative of this room despite the fact that earlier their options were “Scumbag Tavern” or “Tent”.

Whatever, he slumped back in his chair staring at the ceiling. The smart thing to do now would be to go to sleep, but surprisingly laying on a hard floor didn't sound very appealing seeing as the last time he did he was getting his teeth kicked in. What really sounded nice was relaxing in a warm bath, and while their room didn't have one, he figured they had to have something like that in this place.

He decided he'd track down one of those creepy puppet servents and find out forsure. Although he wasn't supposed to leave Fei unless excused, he didn't feel like bothering or walking her for such a trivial thing. Getting up carefully he quietly left the room and headed down the hall.

After locating one of the servants, they took him to what must have been a purification pool for the temple that had now been turned into a open bath area for guests. Seeing as they were the only guests at the time, it was completely devoid of life; exactly how Jessi wanted it. As he stripped down he was finally and to see the damage done from those cursed exiles. Sure enough he was covered in bruises and cuts that are this point had stopped bleeding. Just me scars to add to the others.

Without anymore hesitation he stepped into the large pool of water and immediately felt better. Resting good head on the side he let his entire body sink below the surface. Ignoring everything around him he let the water sooth and relax him to the point he could nearly fall asleep right there.

Měihóu Niángniang

Měihóu pointed Chen in a direction, before skittering off in that direction herself. The spider left, the legendary relic seized, Chen in the apparently very competent hands of Ruxen, the plot and stew thickened. Now all that needed to be done was assure she didn't end up inside a wolf-girl's belly.

Měihóu made sure to stay close enough to keep an eye out, but hopefully a little further away and out of sight to avoid Ruxen giving chase again.

Ruxen huffed but did not complain. She was tempted to chase that annoying squirrel that had started all this…but figured it was doomed to die or wander around for eternity in the depths of Rexicorg. Rolling her eyes, she padded on all fours and proceeded to lead Chen out of the ruins for good. It would seem one Legend Relic was at least found, Chen being the master of the green one.

An interesting turn of events that would no doubt open up the future to numerous more possibilities. Time progressed onward at an alarming rate, and soon news of one Legend Relic being discovered within Rexicorg spread over the lands like wild wildfire. Whether Chen decided to hand it in to the Imperium or keep it for a little while longer was up to him.

In any case, a total of three whole days had passed since that faithful day. Ruxen, having nothing better to do, stuck by Chen since it was better to be hidden lest she become chained up again at the hands of the Imperium. News of the puppeteer Emillia hosting a mass battle tournament in Exillia became the gossip of the day along with the Librarians spies taking up residence in Arcadia.

And yet, more news of a second possible Legend Relic was running rampant in the lush forest areas of Rivenwood. Indeed, the wheels of fate were certainly turning. The Imperium had deployed troops in pursuit of these supposed rebels in the skyward lands of Arcadia while others were sent to explore Rivenwood.

Things were certainly becoming more interesting.

Tori

Tori grinned on the outside while cringing, hard, on the inside. She truly didn’t know how to deal with the two little girls of Berlina. She did suspect that they took more after their mother, in that they were far shrewder than they let on. They ran about laughing and giggling without a care in the world, yet regardless they still managed to get their way as if some divine providence dictated it. It truly made Tori uneasy, as if these kids had all somehow known what she would do before she did it. Even more so, she could find no reason to leave them that Berlina would accept. Danger? Oh she has faith in Tori. Distracting? They are bright little girls. Anything Tori said she could imagine Berlina's response, so Tori simply took it in her stride and decided to make do.

Stepping aboard the airship, the twins made themselves known to everyone aboard, shouting orders that were already being followed and making childishly foreboding warnings of the area.
“For unmapped ruins you two do seem to know a fair bit about them. I guess you two truly are Berlina’s daughters” looking to Alex, Tori had to wonder his motivations for coming to Arcadia. She loved this place, knowing its ins and outs, discovering for herself and such. Knowing Arcadia was goal enough for her, but that reasoning was rather uncommon and as far as she knew no one else cared for it.
In an attempt to find out Tori wracked her brain as she tried to recall his name. Sure she knew it, but she didn’t really store it so she had to dive into the recycle bin to try and find it.

“So… Alex…? Alex. What’s your particular motivation for coming to Arcadia? Holiday? Work? You one of them treasure hunters with dreams of a windfall? Poor choice of words. Although a strong wind would result in a fall I suppose..." looking at him, Tori assumed he was one of the later. People outside of the Imperium rarely, if ever, have work in the sky islands and only Tori would find it a good holiday destination when Aquaria was so close.

"Anyway be careful if you are treasure hunting. It’s a long way down and a heavy load can drain the stamina and easily unbalance you. If you do fall you can apparently have enough time to write your last will and testimony on the way before you hit something. I’ve heard there was one guy who survived. The fall anyway, he landed on a mountain, died a while later of frostbite and infection from the broken bones… hmm that’s probably a bit morbid… still it’s a good lesson.” stretching out, Tori rubbed her eyes under her glasses and looked around for something resembling coffee.

Chen Chideta

Chen pushed a branch away from his face and brushed a leaf off of his head. Rumors of a Legend Relic were spreading and supposedly this Legend Relic was in Rivenwood. He looked behind him and saw Ruxen trailing behind him, she had taken up his offer on working for The Librarian it seemed. This was good, especially in the situation he had most recently entered. The forest of Rivenwood was notorious for making even the best explorers wander in circles like a man with a circumference obsesssion. So having a Beastkin was very helpful.

Chen walked into a branch and it hit him in the face. The branch froze over completely and Chen rubbed his head where it had been hit. He felt the Legend Relic in his pocket and a small smile crossed his face. The Librarian would be pleased that the first Legend Relic was found by him, this would be a defining moment in the war. Now he just needed to figure out how it worked. Easier said than done of course. Chen had carefully observed it with several tools and had found nothing too unusual about it. More than once he had considered channeling some Mana into it, but disregarded the thought. There was no telling what that could do to an unprepared Mage. Chen looked back at Ruxen once more and a question formed on his lips.

"Do you smell any other humans nearby? Anything dangerous whatsoever?" He asked in a inquisitive tone as he walked into another branch, this one hitting him in the ribs. He groaned as he felt his wounds from a few days ago ache. Those scars were still a little sore.
