Giggles echoed throughout the air as two small girls sat beside each other within the playground’s sandbox. Claire couldn’t help but smile as she watched them create pathetic sandcastles with plastic shovels and buckets. Both of their dark hair was decorated in adorable braids and she was almost sure the two were sisters. A faint smile spread across her lips. Growing up as an only child, Claire had always thought about how life would be like with a sister. Someone she could have played with or talked to every night. It would have been fun, she supposed. Then again, that would have meant less attention from her parents and Claire wasn’t sure she could handle that.
A soft noise vibrated from Claire’s pocket. Riley had sent her a text, stating he would be there in 15 minutes. Claire smiled again and stopped within the middle of the path.
To Riley:
Can’t Wait! <3
A girl dressed in an extremely attractive workout getup passed Claire as she texted Riley. Something about the girl seemed oddly familiar yet she knew they had never met. Shrugging, Claire continued jogging.
As Tara did interval training around the park, her path eventually was in sync with the petite blonde she saw earlier.
Claire looked toward the girl running beside her with curiosity. She seemed fairly healthy and fit, enough to rock a sports bra and look good that is. The girl's eyes however, were a bright red color and Claire couldn’t help but stare at them. Distracted, Claire didn’t have time to stop herself before her foot tripped over a small rock on the ground. A cry of pain escaped her mouth as she fell, scraping her right knee. Way to go… She silently cursed as she pulled up her sweat pants, examining the bloody mark. She gasped at the pain, biting her tongue to stop herself from screaming. A few tear droplets fell down her face as she tried her best to breathe.
Slowing to a stop, Tara looked behind her at the bleeding girl. Sighing she knelt down next to her. “You okay?” She asked, examining the wound. It wasn't too bad, if it had been her with wound, she would have just walked it off without even bothering to take care of it. However, not everyone was her.
Looking up into the bright eyes of the girl she was almost sure was Tara, the best friend of her boyfriend, Claire nodded slightly. The wound needed to be treated before it got infected in any way. She shuddered at the thought of getting sick from such a clumsy mistake. “I’ll be fine, I just need to get to my car. Thank you though, Tara.” Claire hoped she wasn’t wrong. Riley had talked often about his best friend and her glowing red eyes. Wobbling to her feet, Claire began limping back to her car.
Tara was a bit stunned at the mention of her name. Had she introduced herself? Or perhaps she was just that popular. Preferring the latter option, the confused female watched the mystery girl hobble away to her car. If she decided she would handle it on her own, so be it. Shrugging, Tara pushed her ear buds back into her ears and went back to her run.
