As the Imperial ship Zaigus pulled into the dock at Fort Narselis the Fort's commander, Lord Justed, cousin of the Emperor, walked onto the dock. Once the new troops had made it off of the boat he separated out the replacement troops for the base and addressed the new scouts. "Welcome to the new continent, recruits. I'm not much for long speeches, so I'll just try and cover things quickly. You've been brought here to scout and secure the area so that we can eventually bring in actual colonists. In case you haven't noticed already, this fort is running low on supplies. Food is difficult to come by, as we have no farming here or trade with the locals, and we don't even have horses to help out because we can't afford to feed them. Your job is to fix this. To help you in this, two people from the base will be assigned to help you." He motioned behind him. "We have a Local we rescued that will act as your translator and our assistant smith, that I think can help you out, especially in finding your was around the fort. Get to know each other, go get some food for your trip, and get to work."

With that he turned around and walked away. "Uh, I guess I'd better introduce myself," said Jile, walking towards the two new people and holding out his hand, "I'm Jile On'yan, a mage."

Agmundr felt a bit dizzy. That cruise had not exactly improved his general condition, but he was fit to walk down the ramp and - finally! - reach solid ground. He had his difficulties to keep up his speed of comprehension with the Lord's introduction and when the Emperor's cousin had finished, he decided that it would require a bit more than that rush to fully explain the situation to him. What he did understand right now was that the supplies were scarce and the scouts were here to remedy. That wasn't surprising... In fact Agmundr was astonished that the Empire had got that fort itself up and running so fast.

When Jile approached, he was the first to put out his massive hand. "I'm Agmundr - afraid I don't know anything about magic. Hope that won't be a problem."

The sweat fell from Zane's brow and fell atop the white hot metal, evaporating instantly with a small sizzle and a whisper of steam. Zane did not bother to wipe the rest of his sweat away, concentrating only on the motion of his arm and the ringing sound of impact from his hammer. The metal rang pure, a sweet sound to his exhausted body as he pounded the shape from his mind into reality. With one final blow, the shape of the short sword was finished. Zane set his hammer down on the bench beside him, quickly grabbed his tongs and quenched the blade, hardening the blade. While not quite finished, the blade could be comfortably set aside until later. Zane set the blade aside for future work and took a long drag from his water skin. I feel like I am forgetting something. The thought struck quickly, but Zane quickly brushed it aside. Zane opened the door letting out some of the heat, catching sight of the boat quickly coming into dock. Huh, that's new. Zane went back inside and picked up his hammer to replace it before the actual smith yelled at him for moving his tools around again.

Zane stopped, hammer still in hand. Ship. Shhiiiippp... oh gods... I was supposed to report to Lord Justed! Zane burst out of the door and ran down to the docks as the ship arrived. Still clad in his smithing leathers and holding his hammer, panting, and covered in sweat and charcoal dust. He arrived just as Lord Justed began a very similar speech as the one he had received when he had arrived two weeks ago. He immediately stood at attention, saluting with the same hand that held his hammer. He held his breath hoping that Lord Justed had not noticed his lateness, only releasing his breath as Lord Justed walked away and the recruits began to chat amongst themselves. "I'm Zane, the uh... assistant smith and um oh! Also the assistant enchanter! Nice to meet you all!" Zane gave them all a huge smile as his hammer spread more charcoal dust across his forehead, still at attention.

Mizzie stood off to the side of Lord Justed's retinue as he delivered his speech to a group of people that had stepped off the massive ship floating nearby, her tail moving rather lazily behind her. While most of the words he said sounded like nothing more than gibberish to her, she was able to pick out several words that she understood, like "food" or "work." In all honesty, she had added a surprising number of words to her vocabulary since being rescued a little under a month ago. And even if she wasn't able to structure those words into grammatically correct sentences, she was at least able to communicate with the Imperials on the base.

After Lord Justed was finished giving his speech, he and his retinue departed, instructing the recruits to introduce themselves to the blacksmith's assistant and Mizzie before settling in. Having been informed before hand that they wanted her to introduce herself and to try and become familiar with the newcomers, Mizzie immediately used her wings to start hovering above the ground and over towards the newcomers. "Hello!" Mizzie said cheerfully after taking a moment to remember the Imperial word for greetings. "Name is Mizzie," she continued, pointing to herself to help communicate what she meant more clearly.

Judging from how she felt, Iolaires face must have been as green as her eyes. As this had been her first time at sea, the voyage had been anything but easy. Even though sailing from the old world to the new had felt like an eternity, she didn't remember much; just the never-ending ups and downs and the countless times she'd been sick over the railing. She had wished so many times for dry land, but she didn't feel very happy now that she'd found it. In fact, the only thing she felt at the moment was sick.

She swallowed sour spit as the commander spoke, trying her best to steel her face and not to barf all over his shiny boots. The others seemed to be fine, or at least very good at pretending so. All she could think of was getting something to eat that wasn't covered in salt or mold. It made her even more sick, thinking of food, but she was so furiously hungry that she couldn't stop herself. First food, then sleep. In a bed. With a mattress. Maybe even a pillow. Yes, that'd do it.

The commander finished talking, but Iolaire hadn't really been listening. She'd just follow the others. There were other people here as well. A mage called Jile, and a creature the commander had called a "local" that introduced itself as Mizzie. It spoke Imperial well enough, but with a strange accent. She nodded to them both.

"I'm Iolaire." she mumbled while quenching a burp, "A pleasure."

@FetzenJile shook the hand of the massive undead guy behind him. "Oh, sorry about that, I must not have talked to you on the ship. I do remember seeing you, though. I was in my cabin most of the time trying to come up with some kind of medicine to treat seasickness. Finally finished it a few days ago. Made a tea that could fix it mostly, and used my magic to finish the job." He then saw another person from the ship who still seemed sick. "Excuse me a moment. I'll be right back."

He walked over to the elf that looked like she wasn't doing too good and handed her a drinking gourd full of medicinal tea. @Duck"Lolaire, right? Here. I made this to treat sea sickness." he said. "I'll have to grow some more herbs to make more, but it should help."

After handing it to her, he walked back over to the Revenant. "Sorry about that, I'm a Doctor, so I treat people when they need it. So, what do you say we meet the two that were already here and go see if there's anything to drink around here. All the ship had was water and tea."

---

Behind where the newcomers stood a bulky man yelled at the ship crew who were tossing small kegs down off of the ship. "Hey, you idiots, be careful with those powder kegs. It's hard to mine without it, and even harder to fight the hoards of undead that will be here soon without grapeshot in the cannons."

@TheUnknowableA doctor ? That meeting most likely had just incremented the number of persons knowing or at least having suspicions about his true nature... That would've been less of an issue for him if there had not been that other man behind them. Agmundr sucked in a lot of air and opened his mouth - but then shut it again. Telling somebody that one was undead himself wasn't such a good idea if that somebody was worried about cannons not being able to fire on one's own kind. He would have to investigate this later on. For now, he looked friendly at Jile. "Good idea." and he got moving. The prospect of having something to drink that most likely wasn't water or tea was quite interesting. He still was able to eat and drink and the magic inherent in him apparently did somehow absorb the energy and other nutritional values in order to keep that physical appearance going. He knew that conventional medicine didn't affect him - that's why he didn't ask for a cup Jile's invention - but he had never tried out if a massive intake of alcohol would affect him in a negative way.

Agmundr looked ahead and had to grin. The way that one guy held his hammer was pretty funny.
"Hi. Is there something special about that black dust or why are you eager to cover your face with it ?" he asked in a very deep, but friendly voice and grinned even more. "Agmundr. Here to help you." and he offered his hand to Zane. @EurmalEye

Zane looked around curiously at all the new faces and especially at the soldiers unloading the boat discussing the undead horde on its way. He have a brief nod at that, he hadn't heard that particular but of information before but it did explain the then inexplicably large amount of weapons the forge had been ordered to create. When Zane had first arrived to the New Continent and told his superior officer his skill sets of both smith and enchanted, he had thought the officer may begin frothing at the mouth he was so excited. He was sent to work at once splitting his time the mostly silent smith and enchanted who spoke only in terse commands so as to not break his concentration. Zane assumed that he had been assigned a bunk at some point, but he had yet to find it- that was fine though since the forge was always warm to sleep beside. He glanced up at the flying girl the Lord had motioned too, he hadn't seen her before. 'I really should get out more,' he thought.

@Fetzen At that moment Zane realized that someone was speaking to him, he turned and blinked at the large figure that seemed to be blocking most of the sunlight in a rather surprising area around him. He had missed the majority of what the possible giant had said except for the very end. Quickly lowering both his hand and hammer, Zane shook several of Agmundr's fingers and replied in a rather excited voice, "To help me? That's rather surprising - not two weeks here and already the Capitol has seen fit to send me an assistant!" Zane suddenly looked rather concerned. "...Err hmm. I am not exactly certain what to do with an assistant - you see I am already assistant to two of people at this camp and do most of the work there, so I have no idea what an assistant's assistant should be doing." Zane paused in his monologue to breath and think. "No, no I am afraid that it simply won't work at all. I am much too busy to have an assistant at the moment, I'm sorry to say. Perhaps you can join the construction teams instead! They could use a man of your size to help them lift their supplies." Zane looked over Agmundr once again. "Or possibly a wall if it came to that."

"Iolaire. My name is Iolaire" she almost said, but decided to hold her tounge. He had given her medicine after all. She swallowed it quickly and almost retched on the spot, it tasted so bad. Then she followed the rest of the crew to the keep. It struck her then that she didn't know who to report to other than the commander. Frankly, she was at a complete loss at what she was supposed to do here apart from the general mission. The big man with the funny accent, Agmundr, seemed to know what he was about, though. She decided to stick with him until she got a clearer picture of what was going on. She approached him while he was speaking with a smith.

"Hey" she said, "I was thinking about getting something to eat. Care to join me?"

The revenant laughed again. "I'm not that good at lifting entire walls. However quite a few people claim that I am a wall myself. And sorry for expressing my self so vaguely: I meant that I'm here to help whoever needs me." Then he was interrupted and turned his head. "Oh, hello... Iolaire ?" He really hoped that his memory was correct. "Ah well... I'd like to. Zane ? You know this place better than me. Is there a place where we can get something edible between our teeth ? And ideally a lot of it." In fact, Agmundr was gambling on him simply joining them, but perhaps he was too busy...

Despite his initial desire to take in the splendor that was the new continent, the hunter known as Jacque had found himself in bit of a predicament: While he'd managed to take the voyage to handle the ride to the new continent with little problem save for the slight headache that came only when one unaccustomed to constant exposure to sea air breathed to much of it for too long, his body had started to adapt to the subtle swaying motions of the ship as it had sailed. The result of this was that he was almost forced to take a knee nearly three steps into solid earth to properly, no pun intended, ground himself, lest he fall flat on his ass. After rooting himself in place in a spot that he hoped wouldn't put him in the path of someone that happened to be bust, Jacque took the time he was spending getting used to stationary footing again to also survey the area and people around him.

Those that had arrived before the latest batch of colonizers looked to be a combination of fatigued, irritable, and hungry, completely understandable considering what the Lord had said regarding food. Jacque couldn't help but smile just a tad, after all, a lack of food meant that not only would he potentially be able to hunt to his heart's content, but in doing so he'd be earning his place among the others that would call Fort Narselis home. There were many things to be done before that however: First and foremost he had to properly introduce himself to some of the others if he was to live in close proximity to them, following that he would have to find a place to unload his supplies, then after that he would have to ask around to see if there was work to be done within the fort, as well as ask Lord Justed permission to join a scouting party to see if he could find a game trail or two that hadn't been cleared of fauna by all of the recent activity.

The huntsman started to feel a touch overwhelmed as he realized the work that would lie ahead of him before he could actually begin to enjoy himself. His concerns were pushed to the wayside however as he felt a familiar tugging sensation along the back of his cloak. Shortly after the sensation began, a narrow, scaly head peeked over his shoulder, and from it's mouth came a forked tongue. "We'll have to put in a bit of work for me to convince people that you're here for pest control instead of being a potential stew ingredient too, won't we Alu?" Jacque said with a hint of mirth. The monitor lizard gave Jacque a quick glance- more so out of recognition of the sound the huntsman had made than out of understanding, before it continued to look around with mounting curiosity.

Once he was finally certain that his legs wouldn't betray him, Jacque started moving towards a small cluster of people that he'd seen get off the boat before him. He put on a welcoming, if not somewhat reserved smile as he caught the tail end of the conversation, specifically the bit where the large man mentioned food, "If what Lord Justed said really is as bad as he made it seem, then you might have your work cut out for you looking for a meal.". Jacque came to a stop from the group about a yard and a half away and gave a soft nod, "Sorry to intrude in your conversation like that, didn't really know how else to go about introducing myself just now. I'm Jacque.".

Esther was no exception from the norm, one of the many (if not all) dazed and curious soldiers to land on the New World. Thanks to the three months' trip, Esther found his estoc to be a surprisingly effective rest for his chin, standing or not.

Still, he had a pang of pity for less fortunate travelers. The particularly heavier passengers (in terms of the circumferences of their bellies) had already mixed the scents of their rapidly-scarfed rations with the salty waters; fortunate the latter was much stronger than butyric acid. Whatever still registered into his nostrils was enough cause for pangs of self-pity, too.

"Esther," he chimed in, seemingly as though he had came out of nowhere. "Esther Dietrich. Now, I believe there is food to be had...that a-ways, no?"

Something was making Esther a bit uncomfortable. His steps were lighter than usual, even with all his equipment on, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. It's like his back had no burden to bear, but he was sure he was supposed to be lugging something around...

And there was movement in the treeline. Enemy?

No, just a guard patrolling. That checked one possible job off the list; unwieldy as he felt, Esther had a fort to orient himself with, and so he panned his eyes over the rest of his group.

At least, it would seem. He was trying to pan a view of the entire fort from where he stood, but with an especially massive revenant in the way...

Zane stood looking at all the new faces surrounding him, fairly confused at his new-found popularity. One man had seemed to simply appeared next to Agmundr, introducing himself as though it was nothing out of the ordinary. A short and lean elvish woman had begun speaking to Agmundr and a rugged looking man named Jacque had also come before him. 'Do not panic. Do not panic.' Zane cleared his throat with a brief excuse, climbing atop a nearby crate, taking out two of his heavier blacksmithing tools, banging them together with several powerful, precise hits in order to gain the attention of everyone around. "Ahem okay um soldiers here is what we are going to do! Zane attempted to straighten his apron. "I know you are all tired and hungry so I am going to go briefly over what jobs are available around camp and then you can all get some food and set up your bunks before reporting to your individual supervisors! First and foremost, what we need are hunters and fisherman who can help provide the camp with food. Those who are skilled in this area please go to the warehouse for a briefing from your superior." Zane looking up at the sky thinking for a brief moment, before glancing back down at the gathered recruits. "This is obviously an unsustainable action and we will probably starve to death soon, unless someone amongst you knows anything of farming or a useful shamanic magic? If you do please report to the command post outside of Lord Justed's home." Zane coughed slightly, entirely unused to giving orders or being the center of attention.

"That being said there are a number of other positions that we always need help fulfilling. The construction team is tasked with both gathering building materials and strengthening the fort walls. As there seems to be a siege of undead at our door soon, it is extremely important that the construction staff have as much help as possible. You can find the construction supervisor next to the ore storage building by the large loads of timber." Zane gestured at each building as best he could. 'Perhaps next time I should bring along some sort of display or stand?' Zane continued, "Those of you with a knowledge of healing or herbs should report to the apothecary for assignment and anyone with suitable abilities in magic should report to the Enchanting and Magical Research building right above the ore storage for supplementary duties. That should be most of the available positions, if any of you have further questions you can ask me during mealtime which is right now. The mess hall is this way." With that duty done, Zane jumped off the crate and began to lead the hungry crowd.

"Seems like food will have to wait then." Iolaire mumbled to herself. She didn't know mych about farming, but she was a seasoned hunter and knew some schamanistic magic, so she assumed she would have to feed herself if she wanted to eat. Herself, and the rest of the fort. She turned around and started walking towards the Lords home. "I'll go and report to the command post." she called out to the others, "See what I can do about the situation."

Agmundr winced when Esther more suddenly than not appeared next to him. He had seem him before on the ship, but the way he moved... He himself would've never been able to move around in a way even close to that. The revenant noticed that Esther's eyes were moving back and forth, but before he made a more profound thought about that, he plodded away anyway, the construction supervisor being his destination. Large loads of timber next to a warehouse shouldn't be that hard to find, even without a guide. So he followed Zane as long as he could and then diverted.

The hulking undead looked around for anyone to stand close to the location described, but perhaps the guy was inside ? He knocked at the door - perhaps that was considered more polite than just entering. Normally he wouldn't have cared about it, but he was the rookie here and didn't want to take risks that could be avoided easily. However, he got hungry... Hopefully there was anybody among the new recruits that was more adept at hunting, fishing or farming than he was.

Jacque cold barely contain the urge to smile like a daft fool as he listened to the blacksmith explain what sort of jobs there were to be done around the fort. Fortune favored the huntsman it seemed, as he not only had the opportunity to hunt sooner than initially expected, but he also had a chance to make himself useful with the little bit of shamanic magic that he knew. Granted his magic wouldn't really do much in the way of growing crops: the one spell that he knew in relation to sustenance was a purification spell, meant to prevent poisoning from tainted food and water. Perhaps when he gained more experience with his magiks, but at the very least he could potentially increase the shelf life of what little there was to go around.

That would have to come later though, for now Jacque wanted the chance to go out and get a general feel for the new land, not to mention potentially bag something to bring back to the fort. As he followed after the blacksmith Jacque decided to pipe up once more,"I used to hunt for a living back home before coming here, i'll think i'd rather put away my belongings and head over to the warehouse to see what I can do. If you can point me in the right directions then with any luck I can see whether or not they'll let me set up some traps for small game and such, maybe a few bigger ones for these undead you mentioned. Not exactly I need a meal right now anyway, got some jerky and pumpkin seeds to-". The hunstman stopped and lightly bopped his forehead, "The seeds! Why didn't I think of that earlier?" Jacque mused aloud before he began to pat himself down, "Never liked 'em roasted so I always ate 'em raw..." He muttered to himself as he searched his person, paying little mind to Alu as the monitor shifted this way and that to avoid falling off of him, "Here we are!".

Jacque produced a simple cotton sack and tossed between his hands with a pleased smirk, "Is there any chance that planting these might help us yield crops? I know that there's not much in the way of livestock here to help make a proper patch or something, but i'm sure with enough man power we can get something close enough to get these to grow. I'll even help with that as well as hunting if someone can show me how to tend to them right.".

A tall, bulky man walked up to the door and greeted the man standing there. "Hey, name's Harald." He held out his hand. "I take it you're the one of the new guys? Sorry about that. I was hauling crates of silver ore over to the Smithy. Only way Lord Justed can afford to pay us is to have the smith mint the coins himself. 'Course, there's barely enough pulled out every month because of the goblin attacks, but it covers costs. So, what can I do for you?"

"I know a bit about growing crops." said Jile in response. "At least, I've grown a few medicinal herbs in grow boxes before. Maybe we can talk to the chef, see if he's got any fruit, seeds, nuts, or roots that we can plant to try and grow more. Maybe edible things are too much to ask right now, but perhaps the seeds from some of the local berries or fruit trees? A potato or two even?" It then dawned on him where they might get supplies.

He turned to the girl with wings. @TaliPaendrag "You're a local, right? Is there anything the fort has a lot of that we could trade with your people for food or farming supplies? Maybe iron tools, iron works or silver? I heard they have mines for both iron and silver here."

Mizzie had been a bit concerned after noticing that none of the newcomers seemed to have any interest in talking to her, while at the same time gathering more or less around the blacksmith's assistant. Figuring that it was probably due to her appearance, as she had noticed that the people of the fort seemed a bit taken aback by that, Mizzie followed relatively nearby, but without necessarily forcing herself upon the others. As Zane, the blacksmith's assistant, gave a little speech concerning what needed to be done around the fort, Mizzie watched the reactions of the newcomers. It seemed to her that, by and large, they were genuinely eager to get to work, as they seemed to head off in the various directions that Zane had pointed, towards areas that Mizzie knew as needing assistance.

While everyone in the group sort of split up to head to where they would likely be most useful, Mizzie was trying to decipher the meanings to some of the gibberish words that Zane had spoken, not noticing that two of the humans in the group (Jile and Jacques) had approached her until one of them asked her a question. Understanding the word "local" in the man's question, Mizzie nodded, a smile slipping onto her face. Unfortunately, he continued his question using words with which Mizzie wasn't as familiar, leaving her to try and decipher what me meant from the few words she did know. "Slow. Words new," Mizzie said in response, holding her hand up to try and forestall him from rushing on with more questions at the moment.

From what she knew of the words he had used, it seemed that he wanted to know something about supplies and trading, both of which were words Mizzie had heard fairly often while at the fort. Was it possible that he meant that he wanted to visit the general store to check out what they had to offer? "Market?" she asked, hoping that she was reading his questions properly, and that he would understand her question for clarification.

@TheUnknowable The revenant shook Harald's hand. "That is correct. I've just arrived with the latest ship and as I've heard that the fort is in a pretty dire situation, I thought it could be a good idea to look for work straightaway. So tell me what I can do for you as long as I've not starved to death yet." He laughed shortly, though it probably was still enough to give the impression of a minor earthquake going on in his immediate vicinity. "Oh... before I forget: My name's Agmundr. Just Agmundr, nothing else."

Jacque gave a small nod to Jile and spared a glance at Zane and what remained of the group, "I guess i'll chat with you lot later, for now i'll make myself as useful as I can. Best to make a good impression on the first day and all that, you know?" he stated before he split away to approach one of the natives alongside Jile. He remained quiet as the magus asked the native about where supplies could be procured, being more interested in examining the young woman's strange features. He knew practically nothing about the nature of the natives, but back home horns, wings, and a tail on a humanoid typically hinted at an infernal lineage. That was something to keep in mind for sure, but the girl seemed benign enough, and no one seemed to take exception to her being in the fort. All in all Jacque figured that it wasn't too big of a concern so long as he didn't wake up to Mizzie carving someone's heart from their chest.

After picking up on Mizzie's less than stellar understanding of the imperial language Jacque took a small step forward to catch her attention, "Market, yes. Trade goods to make food." he said slowly before he withdrew a pumpkin seed and brought it to his mouth to get his point across. The huntsman was no stranger to working with people that couldn't speak imperial. He wasn't exactly able to speak the languages of everyone he traded with, but he'd learned pretty early on that some gestures were universal. "Meat." He reached over his shoulder and gave Alu a soft pinch, something the monitor seemed to take offense to given the hiss Jacque got in response "Seeds.", he brought up the pumpkin seed again, "Tools." he said before he withdrawing his knife from it's sheath and crouching to dig at the earth. With his display done Jacque stood once more and sheathed his knife before nodding at Mizziem "You show us market, help find goods? Yes?".
