Alyssa and Kimberly were walking through the forest near the lake. The sun hung high in the sky and light filtered beautifully through the leaves and branches, bathing their surroundings in sparkling light. They'd finally arrived on the much anticipated annual lake trip, the rest of the campers were setting things up while they'd ducked out for a walk.
"Kimmy, isn't it bea-" Alyssa'd been about to break the comfortable silence when she heard something terrifying to her left.
Turning she saw him. A towering creature of fur, muscle, and razor sharp claws. It was a bear, and a large one at that. It roared at them, its fangs bared in what was likely murderous intent.
"Shit!" Kimmy shouted as she quickly snapped a picture with her smartphone. She then bolted up a tree. They been discussing plans for such an event, and had decided that bears were too fast to run from. "Lyssa! Quick!"
Alyssa was transfixed by the bear's majesty and might. "No Kimmy...." She took off her jacket and popped her neck side to side. She stretched her arms. "This is my destiny...I'm gonna fight that bear."
"Lys, don't be stupid. It's a bear!" Kimmy called from the tree above. Had Alyssa gone full retard? "You can't fight a bear!"
Alyssa narrowed her eyes at the bear. "You probably think she's right don't you?" She took a deep breath. Already adrenaline was pumping into her system, her body fell into her stance as she intrusted it to instincts born of hours of practice. "I'm a fighter in my prime Mr. Bear. You may have been king of these woods for awhile, but I know what it's like to be prey. You think you can stand against that?"
The bear answered by charging. It was fast, but Alyssa was faster. Its paw sailed through air where her head had been previously, and the next thing it felt was Alyssa's fists assaulting its side. She grinned as she heard the satisfying sound of a rib cracking.
The bear lunged to the side, knocking Alyssa backwards. She hit the ground rolling with the force, and by the time she stood again the bear was swiping with its paw. She stepped forward past the claws - she didn't have time for anything else - and diminished what would have been a mortal wound to a simple thud against her shoulder.
Alyssa quickly threw an uppercut into the bear's snout. It reeled in pain, unaccustomed as it was to being punched. Alyssa pressed her advantage by hammering blow after blow into its sensitive snout, blood flowed freely where her knuckles had peeled away skin and fur alike.
Turning the bear fled back into the forest, convinced that this meal was simply too costly. Alyssa stood triumphant. She turned to see Kimmy climbing out of the tree she'd been in.
"Told you I could fight a bear." She said grinning. She held her shoulder, which she was sure would bruise. Closing her eyes she calmed her breathing. "Wasn't th-"
Her sentence was cut off by the sensation of Kimmy's hand across her face in what was probably one of the hardest bitch-slaps she'd ever received. Recoiling she called out. "Hey! What was that for!?"
Kimmy fixed her with an angry glare. "For being a retard. Yes you beat up a bear, but you're still stupid for fighting it in the first place!"
"Do I at least get a kiss for my bravery?" Alyssa grinned apologetically.
Rolling her eyes Kimmy planted a small peck on Alyssa's cheek. "I shouldn't reward stupidity, but it was pretty awesome." She gestured back towards the camp. "Let's go regale them with your tale of supreme stupidity, we'll see how many of them call you dumb huh?"
And so they returned to the camp.

This scene's been stuck in my head since the bear fighting comment. So here it is. Totally realistic I assure you. :D
