@Mahz

@MahzWould there be a method of automatically "muting" someone if they keep making the same post X number of times? I think that might actually work okay-ish.

Wouldn't that target people who bump, mark, interested?

@LadyRunicLet me rephrase:

Can there be a system that will "mute" a user if they make too many posts in a very short period of time.

This way bots who shitspam stuff across multiple boards in under a minute will be targeted but people who bump their 1x1 stuff like once every few days or even few hours should not have much issue.

But how about members though that post regularly pretty fast? Wouldn't they get muted?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't post 30 posts within 4 minutes.

I've gotten the "You must wait at least 5/10/15 seconds between posts." notification pretty frequently on other sites...

To be faaaair, I don't think the bots post that many either. But still, I don't see it being a huge human restriction.

I was observing the new users section yesterday. Some of these bots post 24 posts within 1 minute. I'm pretty sure a normal human would not be able to do this.

Trying to reserve the first X posts in OoC or chat-style free roleplay can do it, for instance.

If you calculate the amount of time for you to be interested in a Roleplay, and then navigating to each one and reserving-- it would still be considerably slower than a bot posting at 24 posts a minute.

Posts here tend to come in really quickly, seeing as it's a speed posting RP. Just throwing it out there, in case the posts/time idea gets taken into consideration. We'd appreciate if the restriction didn't result in muting any of us for whatever reason.

I was more speaking of reserving the first X posts in your own OoC. Half a dozen posts in about ten seconds is what realistically happens.

I think I understand what you mean.

Then perhaps one way around it is if the account is older than 24 Hours, it is exempted from the ban rule (in the assumption that the bots is not more than a day old).

Whatever autoban you apply, it's guaranteed that at least one user will have it blow up in their face. (It's not like no one in their right mind would create a RP in the first 24 hours after joining an RP site, right?)

EDIT: Oh dear, that capcha... It's a blurry image less than two centimeters across, how on earth am I to tell whether it's a pool or a blue tennis court? (It was, in fact, not a body of water.)

Sacrifice one to kill a hundred? Seems reasonable to me.

I'll disable the recaptcha in a bit since it's unnecessary now.

Also, you know, one thing I'm wary of is our legit Korean roleplayers which you can see on the first page of roleplayerguild.com/forums/39-tabletop...

I think it's awesome that we have some non-English roleplays running. I just hope they don't get hurt by the mass spambot cleanup. :(

I'm sure that the system wouldn't flag them as malicious as they're not speed posting either. If it is an automated system, you could set an exemption? Otherwise if its manual, ask the mods to be a little bit wary.

They haven't been online since the last twenty minutes of updates which is probably due to the CAPTCHA which is in English.

Think of them and their story! :')

I'd know because I used to have trouble when I lived in Mexico and everything was in English and I only spoke Spanish.

Right, I was just speaking out loud in regards to my manual cleanup right now. All the spam is starting to condition me to become suspicious of Korean text on the homepage, but some of it is legit!
