Philip Howard Iverson

"The one everyone calls Cheese Steak. Can't they just call me Phil? Or How?"

Philip mentally groaned, though externally he showed nothing. He just followed along with everyone else, letting Mr. Luggageman (TM) take his stuff and filing over to Ariel's car to await boarding. So to speak, that is. Unfortunately, it was the same car that Jamie was in- and fortunately, it appeared that Lizzy would be riding with them. Also fortunately, Jamie had shut his mouth.

It gave him enough time to take a good, thorough breath, and balance himself. It would not do to tear into one of the idiots on this trip, whether verbally or physically. It'll either do nothing, or scar them and give them some more nightmares. He can be very creative, as some people online have found.

He leaned up against the door right next to the driver's side, and waited for Ariel to come hither and get the car ready. And tell him to move if he needed to; if she moved him behind Jamie, then the little punk would be at his mercy. The idea of beating the kid while sitting behind him, out of reach, was almost enough to make him smile. His lips tugged up, just for a brief moment, before he forced it away.

Instead, he occupied himself by watching Lizzy. He'd stare a little, and then go back to staring aimlessly and just watching her out of the corner of his eyes.

He'd much rather stare, but that'd draw attention.

Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Jones

Lizzy left the house just before Ariel, lifting her heavy black backpack onto her shoulders and tugging her small purple suitcase behind her, container of cookies in her other hand, she strolls over to Alex's truck and places her stuff next to Jamie's. Placing the container of cookies on the grass she rummages through her backpack in an attempt to find a small collection of her necessary possessions; Her large brown leather purse, her phone, a car phone-charger and her headphones. She rezips her bag, unbeknownst to the fact her best friend watching her out of the corner of his eye, and piles the items awkwardly on the container of cookies, she really needed to get herself a handbag for all her stuff one day.

With that she runs a hand through her orange hair, tugging her thin hairband out with the other. Choppy orange hair falls at her shoulders and some strands catch the light breeze as Lizzy attempts to pull it back into a ponytail, doing so with mild succuss, not quite neat but it will do. she waits by the truck until Alex comes along.

"Did you want some help loading the truck? she asks him, nodding toward the collection of luggage, "It'll be quicker with the both of us and I'm not really gonna take no for an answer anyway," she insists. Whether it took a lot of insisting or not or just starting to help Lizzy ensures she was part of the packing stage and, upon the completion of the work, gave Alex a smile and a courteous nod of the head before taking her items and strolling over to Phil, who was staring into space. Back to his old, non-speech-giving self it seemed. "What cha thinking about Philly?" she asks her friend cheerfully, Standing in front of him, probably blocking his view of the nothing he was staring at.

Serafina 'Ariel' Gray

"Yeah.. so... this is happening..."

Ariel turned around from locking up the house just in time to see Theo's famous smooching face terrorizing the next door neighbor, as well as hear Jars and his conversation about junk going into trunks. She couldn't help but stifle a laugh as she walked over to place her things in the tailgate of Alex's truck. She caught Phils glance and followed it, only to find that it landed upon Liz. Seriously, can you too just not hook up already, she thought. I better be the godmother of those little red-headed nerds, you two. Walking over to her Kia to unlock the doors for Philip and Jamie, tossing her purse in the front seat as she went to turn and do a headcount as well as drop a few sassy comments, she would catch a sudden glimpse of a familiar blue BMW as it pulled into the garage a tad to fast. Her stomach instantly formed into one of the most major knots ever. It was her father.

He got out of the car, slamming the door as he walked closer, his eyes taking in the scene of all of the teens in his yard, his words coming out harsh. "Serafina! You better tell me what the hell this is about and you better do it now!"

Ariel jumped a little, her face in shock. It may have been a few years since her father had left an official bruise, but it didn't change the girls fear. "Dad.. I.. I tried..."

"You tried what? To organize your band of misfits to run away or something?!" He was now standing in front of her, his voice loud enough to be heard by all.

"Dad, please calm down, we're just going to Cali and a few other places..."

His voice was now a hushed whisper, his knuckles white as he gripped the keys in his fisted hand. "You mean you were going to leave the state without telling me?"

"So help me God, Serafina, you better be glad that I -"

"What, dad? That you won't beat me in broad daylight?"

Her father looked taken aback, his face slightly shocked.

Theo Lincoln

Placing Jar's bag's with far more care than he had his own, Theo closed the trunk just in time to see Ariel's old man pull up. His smile quickly faded as he saw the anger on the older man's face. As he listened to him yell at Ariel, Theo's eyes started to narrow and his jaw clenched. Mr Grey's anger. Ariel's fear. This entire situation brought back memories he would rather forget. He had seen this all before. Not with these people and not in this place but he had seen it. Theo had been in the foster system for years. He had a number of questionable adults offer their particular brand of "tough love". He had learned many a lesson by way of a fist to the face. He was damn sure not going to watch his friend go through that.

As Ariel and her father exchanged words, Theo slowly made his way over to them. He didn't say a word but he kept his eyes locked on the old man, face eerily calm for such a tense situation. When he heard Ariel bark back at her father about him hitting her, Theo couldn't have been prouder of her. Standing up to bullies was never easy but it had to be done. Ariel still looked visibly scared though so Theo stopped behind and a little to the side of her, crossing his arms over his chest and still not taking his eyes off of Mr Grey. Theo had some size to him and of all the group, only Alex really compared. In any other family situation, Theo would probably kept out of it but Mr Grey's anger and Ariel's fear were all too obvious. He was not a kid anymore. He was a grown ass man and he was damn sure not going to stand by while his friend felt threatened. It may not have been any of his business but he was damn well going to make it his.

JAREK ANTHONY WILHELM

CURRENTLY WEARING

Watching Cass go on her tangent again was more amusing than it was infuriating. In fact, Jarek found himself smiling, verging on laughter, before he heard the little transaction from Jarvis to Ada. He raised an eyebrow, but wasn't immediately offended - this was the kind of thing they joked about together, after all. Following almost just after Jar, he was finally out the door. His eyes landed, first and foremost, on the Charger that he'd deigned to go in. "Damn!" he said under his breath, nodding in almost approval at the thing. He wasn't quick to jump on in, considering he had no luggage to load up - just the backpack strapped over his shoulders, really; it's not like a rich kid would need to bring a lot other than their wallet with them - and he didn't need his bike. Maybe. He shot a hesitant look at the dingy old thing before deciding that, no, he didn't.

Jarek hadn't noticed the nonverbal exchange between the neighbours and Theo, but apparently, Jarvis had. He smiled vaguely at the joke, then it disappeared as the accidental innuendo was made. Funny how even someone as innocent as Jar couldn't recover from that. He looked semi-entertained by the way Jarvis reacted to his own mistake, and when Theo responded in a gregarious but still rather suggestive manner, Jarek quickly moved forward, shooting them both scrutinizing looks. "Hey, thanks for the ride, Teddy dearest," he uttered hastily, nearly cutting off Theo in his excitement. The other male was one of the few on this trip that could take a joke and throw it back as he just had, and usually Jarek would appreciate such an accomplishment, but he was still horrifically possessive. He shot Jarvis a look that featured an arched brow, then tugged his backpack off and set it in the Charger without waiting for permission. Plus, no way he was trusting Alex with his things, as little as he was taking. Dude was too quiet.

He was settling back down again when he noted the arrival of another car, and perked up in preparation to ask who else they'd invited, before spotting the look on Ariel's face. Yikes. Must not be another friend. In fact, the man who emerged didn't look nearly their age... but he was addressing Ariel like he had the authority to be such a dick. Now, Jarek didn't have a lot of experience with dads this horrendous - his own was distant, but he didn't berate his son like Ariel's father was to her - but he had plenty when it came to dealing with bad people. Jarvis used to be a frequent victim of bullying, physically or otherwise, before Jarek gained a reputation of being the brawler. That might have inflated his own ego, however, because he was staring down the uninvited man like an assassin might with their victim. What worsened his mood was the gentle voice Ariel responded in.

But then she gathered her courage, and that biting inquiry was enough to earn a little smirk from Jarek - one of pride, most of all. He stepped forward, meeting Theo on the other side and behind Ariel, forming some sort of defence squad formation. However, Jay wasn't exactly that great at self-control. He whipped ahead suddenly, and to make up for being one of the shortest men present, squared his shoulders to appear more intimidating. Didn't work all that well. Hell, he might've been worse if he told Mr. Gray about his own father's paycheck. Nevertheless, the only option that appeared to him now was physical violence. "Yeah, unless you're willing to beat up some kids in front of an audience -" He gestured to the neighbours that Theo was 'flirting' with. "...you'd better get back in your fancy German car and fuck off." As silly as he was acting, Jarek looked entirely sure of himself, not breaking eye contact with the man. He was calculating his advantages, really; not much physically, but his own father's a lawyer, and surely this guy could get in trouble if he actually decided to attack. Most of them were minors, after all.

Jarvis Hugo Moore

The good vibe Jarvis got from Theo was only proven by his respond to his unintentional suggestive comment. The dude was kind, funny, and confident enough to turn what Jarvis considered something embarrassing into something funny. Being embarrassed about those kind of comments sort of came with the territory of being insecure about oneself on certain matters. However, Theo's reaction to it made Jarvis feel a little bit stupid for his own embarrassment, and like he was overreacting. It surprised a laugh out of him - that was cut short when Jarek was suddenly there and talking. He cleared his throat a bit, side-eyeing his best friend. He had seen this reaction from Jarek before; he wasn't blind to the possessive streak the Wilhelm boy had towards him. He had known Jarek for way too long to not have noticed it, though he never made mention of it. There would be no point. Jarek wouldn't talk about it and maybe, just maybe, it didn't bother Jarvis all that much.

"Oh, yeah, thanks for the ride," he tacked on, smiling at the other male with some red still present in his cheeks, when he caught the look being shot at him from Jarek. He shot one back, mimicking his best friend's look eerily well, before deciding to eye the beautiful Charger they were going to get to ride in. He remembered the time he had gotten his license at 16, he had been so excited, to the point he let Jarek convince him it was okay to take one of his parents' very fancy, very expensive cars out for a spin. And it was a very fast car too. It had ended... not that great and Jarvis still felt horrible that Jarek took the blame for the damage done to the car. Not that Jarek cared, his parents could easily pay for the damages, and they considered it nothing new from their "out of control" son. Still, Jarvis felt guilty, because he hated the way almost everyone looked at Jarek; like some messed up kid with no sense or care, when Jarvis saw and knew so much more.

Before he could ask Theo what speed his beautiful lady topped at, another car was pulling up, and quicker than what had to be safe. At first, he thought maybe it was someone else, late, and trying to make it on time. Since it was way past when they should have left. But, it wasn't that, and Jarvis wished it had been. Instead, it was Ariel's dad. He didn't know much about Ariel's life, or the girl herself, but by her reactions towards her father, he could see something was off with the two. He didn't like the air around Mr. Gray and he discovered why when Ariel's biting respond revealed just why she had been so fearful at first. Jarvis wasn't much of a fighter, never had been. He had been involved in a few fights, Jarek couldn't be around all the time, and he didn't want Jarek around all the time. That was another thing he felt guilty about, how Jarek just threw himself at anyone who made a biting comment towards him. Jarvis could easily ignore it but Jarek? Oh, no. But, Jarvis could throw a good right hook if it came down to it, had done it before, much to Jarek's chagrin and pride all at once, and he could feel the tensions growing as Theo stepped up near Ariel.

Of course, Jarek had to join in, and say some biting words back. That made Jarvis come over, he had planned too anyway to show support for Ariel, but that made him come over quicker. "Oooh-kay, I think we all need to calm down," he was mostly addressing Jarek, honestly, putting his arm on Jarek's chest, attempting to push Jarek back while facing Ariel's father. "Mr. Gray, while Jarek said it in a crude fashion, he does have a point - causing a scene in your front yard is something I doubt you want to explain to your up-tight neighbors, and if it got bad enough, the cops. See where I'm going with this?" he said, keeping his arm on Jarek's chest, as he kept his eyes trained on Mr. Gray. When Jarek was angry, he had a surprising amount of strength in that skinny frame of his, and Jarvis just hoped that him being right here would refrain Jarek from doing something with it.

Jamie Wolfe

Jamie was just about to hop into the Kia and grab the AUX cord 'cause he was ready for some tunes and shit, when a new car arrived at the house. "The Hell? Did someone invite another person and didn't tell us?" James opened his mouth and turned to Ariel, but shut it once he noticed her expression. Something was wrong, obviously. What was he missing here? Was it an ex-boyfriend or someone?

Finally the suspense ended when a middle-aged man got out of the car, looking like one angry ass tomato. If this was Ariel's ex, she has some serious explaining to do. Jamie almost made a smart ass remark about it until he actually inspected the man's face and realized it was Ari's Dad. Well shit, that would have been really awkward if he had spoken up. From the looks of it, Ariel hadn't told her father she was skipping town, bad move, but understandable. James instinctively moved towards Ari, and Teddy got the same idea. Things were getting heated and James was feeling like a jackass. How, through all the years he knew Ari, had he not known her father was abusive? Sure, Wolfe had seen and talked to the man and thought he was an asshole but he didn't think he was that bad. Turns out he was wrong.

With all respect for the man gone, James was ready to tear this guy a new asshole, Hell, he could go on for days. But his new favorite person, Jarek, beat him to it. The beauty of the sentence was exquisite. "Yeah, unless you're willing to beat up some kids in front of an audience - you'd better get back in your fancy German car and fuck off." Pride filled Jamie's chest, beautiful, just beautiful.

"I would I'm sorry that we're taking your daughter away for this road trip, but I'm not. She's probably safer with a bunch of crazy, "misfit," teenagers than she is with you, isn't she? But don't worry sir, I, I mean we, will take good care of her sir." Jamie made sure to wink after saying that last part after lacing the word "sir" with sarcasm.

Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Jones

Lizzy knew this was coming. Of course, not in such a manner but, still, she knew. She heard the blue BMW before she saw it and gut knotted almost as much as her best friend. Almost. She should have been more forceful on Ariel. She should've known she would tell him and gotten on top of her weeks ago, she thought of it but didn't.

Lizzy had a bit of an idea of Ariel's father mistreating her, sure. Ariel would confide in her sometimes. Of course Ariel would only tell her the lighter stuff like 'daddy yelled at me' or 'daddy hit me!' Nothing beyond that, though, Lizzy had her suspicions. The extended sleepovers at her house, the bruises that were present on her skin from time to time. Lizzy didn't prompt her too hard and instead stayed protective of her friend, ready to be a shoulder to cry on. She never thought it to be terrible enough to be child abuse but that one line said it all; "What, dad? That you won't beat me in broad daylight?" Why did it never hit Lizzy that Ariel's father was so terrible to her? She should've called a corrective service or talked to someone. Gosh, she was a terrible friend.

Her mind was quickly snagged by the scene before her. Each friend had their own way of protecting Ariel and Lizzy was grateful for it. The thing is none of them were really approaching this the right way. Ariel's dad was a jerk, true. What Liz would give to hurt him, make him feel what his daughter was forced to feel, however, that wasn't Liz. She wasn't violent. She knew how to deal with this, how did none of her friends? After all she was the youngest. Then again, she'd often been told she was too grown up for her age.

"Guys, guys!" she calls after her friends, intercepting. "Allow me," she breaks through the wall of her friends protecting her sister from another mister to get to that other mister. "Mr Gray!" she greets Ariel's father cheerily, "It's been a while. Look, sir, we're not running away, we're going away for a bit. We'll be back before the school year starts. Ariel did try and tell you of the trip once, I'm told, I know she should've told you more about before now, instead of running off but she'll be in capable hands! Some of us are technically adults, and there's me. I'll make sure she keeps in touch with you. Anyway, she is technically old enough to live by herself without your permission, it's not gonna come to that though. We're just gonna spread our wings a bit. It won't be long before she's leaving for college anyway, this'll be good practice for her. Besides, you might like the quiet and not having to check up on her instead of working on your work. She'll be quite alright and the rest of us have our parent's permission or are old enough to make our own. So what do you think?"

Alex Hill

Alex had simply hoped that the group would understand his meaning but apparently that was a lost cause. Instead of causing the others to start moving towards the door Crass spit out a comment at him and Liz saying he wanted to screw her as well. Then they started making bets. Maybe that would work for the time being but it definitely wasn't a long term fix. When Jamie said something about it Alex seriously wanted to say something but thought better of it. Either way it looked as if the bet was moving everyone outside so Alex followed suit. Once outside he walked over to his truck and waited for everyone else so he could start loading the thing with everyone's gear. He did watch Pres, Hugo Strange, and Wilhelm Scream load their stuff in Pres' car. This confused him. The sheer reason he was playing the pack mule was to transport everyone's stuff. Did they not trust him? It most likely wasn't that, but it is what Alex thought.

He was happy when Momma Jones offered to help load his truck, but didn't show it. He just simply shrugged as if saying why not. He made sure to grab the heavier items before she had a chance to get near them. When the finished he said a measly, "Thanks." Really it was kinda pathetic. He needed to learn to talk more other than when he was defusing relationship bombs. He unknowingly watched her walk over to PI but caught himself before anyone noticed. Why had he watched her walk over there? Why was it weird to him?

Suddenly, the thrill of the adventure to come momentarily left Alex. He wasn't usually the kind to despise someone, but he absolutely abhorred Ariel's father. Alex didn't know everything, but he was observant and filling in the blanks on some things was easier than Alex liked it to be. If one were to look at Alex's face when the BMW appeared they would see a flash of clear and intense anger. Alex would never like the man. He was horrible to one of Alex's few friends and that instantly put the man on Alex's crap list.

Deep inside Alex wanted nothing more than to beat the crap out of the man. The inner rage that Alex always bottled up inside himself rarely if ever showed its ugly head. The way everyone was confronting the man didn't help either. Alex's face by now was back to its usual look. Blank as ever, but his body was tense and his fists were tightly clinched. It was a good thing Lizzy said something. The way she approached the situation seemed to calm Alex down a little until he got back to his usual self. He walked over to join the group and as Momma Jones finished talking he decided to add something.

"Sir, you know me and you know my family. You know that, despite my age, my parents would never let me go on this trip unless they were one hundred percent certain that it'd be safe. You also know that I'd never let anything happen to Ariel. I promise that everything will be fine, and that we will come back. So, please trust us."

Ada "AJ" Juliette Weston

Ada was lost, to say the least. Like most in the neighborhood, she had turned to look and Mr. Grays car as she heard it coming into the drive. Her first reaction was Who the hell is this guy? Last time she checked, there was no actual 'adult' supervision on this trip. When she heard Ariels next smart remark, she was prepared to blow it off as she usually did, however, this time, her smart remark was actually quite serious.

Everyone who paid the slightest attention might know something was off with Ariel, but Ada had never imagined something like this. White hot anger flashed through her, as her face hardened, her lips pursed. Before she could get a word out, the others came over in order to do the defending, but that did't change the words that came out of her mouth.

"Mr. Gray, I suggest you leave us alone. Ariel tried to tell you about the trip; you didn't listen. Liz made sure of it. We'll take care of her."

Serafina 'Ariel' Gray

"Blame it on the monsters in my mind."

Oh. My. God. This is happening. This is actually happening and I actually just said that. In the middle of the neighborhood... in broad daylight. Ariel went into panic mode, to say the least. She could feel the color leaving her face, the slight shaking in her hands. I just publicly admitted my father beat me. She did her best to take a steady breath just at the time that Theo came to stand at her side, then Jarek on the other side. It was with him that the onslaught of words began. At the mention of cops, she cut her eyes his way as if saying shut-up. Thank goodness Jarvis calmed things down a bit. And just naturally Jamie had to be the smart-ass.

Then there was Liz. The girl that was like her sister, the girl that she had met in day-care for crying out loud. Yet through all the years that she wanted to tell her, she simply couldn't. Now she had to find out like this, of all ways. It made Ariels stomach hurt. Everyone was taking up for her, even quiet Alex. As she watched her fathers face change from anger, to surprise, recognition and then back again, it only made her stomach hurt worse. She felt like she was going to hurl. Shifting her gaze to her feet, she'd finally say something herself. "Guys, thanks, but um..." her voice was barely audible, close to a whisper, and then, surprisingly, her voice got stronger. Her friends were here, taking up for her. She looked her father in the eye now. Dad, look. These are my friends, the people that I care about. The people that care about me. I told you about the trip, you didn't listen. You NEVER listen, never. Not when mom was still here, not after she was gone. Not then, not now. NEVER."

Her eyes were starting to tear up now. Personally she felt like a silly school girl at the moment, her emotions getting the better of herself. She never cried in public. She hated crying in general. "Trillian, I am going on this trip."

Mr. Gray was taken aback. He knew of his daughters friends, but never did he imagine their responses. As Ariel spoke, his face hardened. Who on earth did she think she was. Who did they all think they were, to talk to him like they were? "Well, if you're all going to be that persistent, the I guess you just have to go. But you know how I feel about this, Serafina."

Ariel turned around as quickly as she could. Fine. Great. Dandy. "You heard the man." She walk back to her car as quickly as she could. She had to simply get out of here.
