Katsuo "Souzou" Noburu
Name:Katsuo Noburu
Nickname(s): "Souzou", "Creator"
Age:16
Gender:Male
Personality:Stemming from his Divine Gear in combination with his upbringing, Souzou is extremely arrogant, being ranked 4th on the (very specific) "Top 5 Most Arrogant Otsuki Students That Need To Go Away" list. Souzou revels in the combat aspect of Otsuki Academy, deriving most of his entertainment from overwhelming opponents with his Divine Gear. Like most other students, Souzou seeks to hone his Divine Gear skills, yet at the same time already considers himself to be a powerful contender within the school. His power-seeking tendencies seem to be based around "breaking the limits" of his Divine Gear, rather than wanting to win the Academy Tournament. Souzou also finds it funny to provoke the people he fights, taunting them in various ways, although this can lead to him sometimes underestimating his opponents.
Skills:Because of his Divine Gear, Souzou has not formally learned to use any weapon. In fact, when fighting, Souzou's hands are normally in his pockets. Souzou's melee fighting style revolves around delivering kicks to his opponents, without much else to offer aside from that.
Souzou is also quite skilled at standing on top of tall objects, balancing on them dramatically.
Equipment:Creation DriveA Modern Divine Gear and Souzou's weapon of choice. The Creation Drive is unique among most Divine Gears, as it is a microchip implanted in the brain, rather than a weapon to be held.
Abilities:The Creation Drive, as the name suggests, is a powerful Divine Gear which uses mana to allow the materialization, and subsequent usage, of anything the user can imagine. This gives the user of the Divine Gear a high amount of versatility both inside and outside of fights, as the user is able to conjure anything from everyday tools and weapons to magical attacks—assuming the user has enough magical power and skill to do so. For the most part, Souzou's fighting style consists of creating many weapons, sending them hurtling towards a target.
Despite the obvious strengths of the Creation Drive, it is not without its drawbacks. There are several limitations to the Divine Gear. The sheer power required to use the Creation Drive results in it having a notoriously high mana
and stamina consumption rate, meaning that its usage must be regulated and controlled. In addition:
- The user must have sufficient concentration in order to create objects, meaning that many of Souzou's attacks and creations can be "disrupted" by forcing Souzou to move or dodge while they're being created, destroying them.
- Things brought into existence originate near the user; Souzou cannot conjure things at far distances.
- Certain objects created require Souzou to give a verbal description, giving the opponent time to prepare themselves.
- Offensively, Souzou seems to be limited to creating tools, weapons and—at its most complex—"adding" attributes to himself, such as wings—although maintaining these attributes will drain mana and stamina particularly fast.
Supposedly, the Creation Drive is able to manifest creatures also, but both the mana and experience required are titanic.
Brief Backstory:
Katsuo's parents were both scientists infatuated with both researching and creating Ritual Technology. Katsuo grew up in a lab environment, always in close proximity to the various Divine Gears his parents would study. Before Katsuo was born, the scientist duo had made a technological breakthrough by creating the Creation Drive, a Divine Gear that could harness one's imagination to perform great feats. However, neither of the two had the mana reserves to use the Creation Drive, nor did they want to implant the device into themselves. Rather, they opted to implant it into their first child. Some say that the stars must have aligned for couple, to have a child with enough mana to maintain the Creation Drive. Others believe different, speculating that the child's large mana pool didn't come from luck, but instead came from a series of experiments made to artificially raise Katsuo's magical potential.
Whatever the case may be, the result was still the same. Katsuo was raised alongside the Creation Drive, and seeks to "break his limits" by becoming as powerful as he can.
