~Charlotte Lachance~

Receiving no immediate response from the Ogre, Charlotte fidgeted somewhat nervously. Well, she had basically just been a grade-a Ass, so there was a chance he didn't wish to speak with her because of it. Meh, whatever. Wasn't really her concern really. If he wanted to not speak to her because of that, then that was his prerogative. Still, might as well avoid being any more cranky here. It'd probably not help things.

"R-right then. Lets, uh, get too it I guess."

With that said, she walked deeper inland. Not so much as to loose sight of the beach, but far enough in to get a good look at some of the plants that may be around them. Aside from the usual green leaved trees, there wasn't much in the way of interesting plants here. A few green bushes, but little in the way of good alchemy ingredients. Well, maybe the bushes and trees could be useful in some way. Mundane plant roots and leaves could actually hold some decent qualities if she had her equipment to be able to actually study them.

...

She didn't want to think about that right now, so she instead, focused on the plants. She sighed, shaking her head. Kneeling down next to a bush, she ran a hand across the leaves. She had a small fear that it may have been a poisonous plant of sorts but she didn't think it would be. They definitely weren't anything seen back home, that was certain. She could tell simply by looking and feeling them. What were they though? No clue whatsoever.

"Taking samples wouldn't do...nowhere to store them. Can't test them immediately either." She grumbled quietly to herself. "Ugh, of course my alembic got destroyed...probably my retort, too. Along with my beakers, flasks, cylinders..." she continued to list off just how many items she had lost in the wreckage as she continued to study the plant. It didn't seem to special though, so she doubted she'd find anything useful on it.

At least she wasn't feeling like death at the moment, so that was a plus.

~Sevita Lanka~

Come to think of it, her moving about in this hull would have been slightly...bad. Considering her somewhat larger size. Well, the size of her wings, anyways. She could hug them close to her body to be sure, but it still meant she took up a bit of extra room. Well, at least compared to humans and their kin. She poked her head into the hole in the ship, curious at what the others had found, and if they might need her help with something.

A shout from the little fox from earlier grabbed her attention. She was about to spring into action should something be attempting to harm them, but her concerns were quickly extinguished. Nothing major then, just the fox freaking out over something trivial. The Garuda sighed, mildly annoyed. Hardly a way to act if they were in the middle of searching this vessel. It was equivalent to 'crying wolf' as one might say. If the little fox got jumpy at every little thing, then how would they know if it was something actually serious?

If she was back home, she would have reprimanded the little fox for such behavoir. Of course, maybe it was also a one time thing, so there was no need for such an action. She wasn't home, after all, and doing something like that would likely only end in trouble.

So she quietly stepped into the vessel, talons digging into the soggy wood and mindful of her wings. She didn't have to worry about glass so much, though it would still hurt on the off chance any part of her feet other than her sharp talons touched it. While the others looked for seeds and farming equipment, she looked for something that was a bit more...practical in its application. A weapon of some kind. She wasn't a skilled farmer, scholar or artisan of any sorts, and such things she would leave to those better suited for the task.

And thankfully, it seemed the spirits smiled on her. Buried under some half destroyed wooden crates, she spotted a familiar item.

"I do not know about seeds, Little Fox," she walked over, carefully moving aside the boxes and checking them for valuable, though that search came up empty. Finally done, she reached for the red colored spear under them. It was a simple looking weapon to most, decorated with feathers and other ornaments. Charms from the rain forest, and more than one supposedly to bring protection from harm.

"But I have found something useful for protection." An old friend of hers, she had for...quite some time. She wasn't really one to worry so much about things, but having it in her hands put her at ease just a bit.

As Irial surveyed the wrecked ship, letting everyone else do the work(to be fair, there wasn't much she could do. She wasn't exactly a physical powerhouse), she mourned the loss of her books. There was no way they had survived such a wreck. All those repositories of knowledge, gone. All because of some stupid shipwreck. The thought of it made her angry. Using a quick motion spell, she managed to clear away some sand at the very least, to make some of the others have an easier time spotting things. However, she wasn't seeing much of use to her. She'd let the others find whatever it was they deemed useful. The small high elf was on the look out for anything, anything that would be of help to someone with the nature of a mage.

And, to her surprise, she found it. A glittering, red gem, half-buried in sand... in an instant, she had stepped forward and snatched it up in her free hand, even before anyone else could react to its presence.

"This is mine," Irial declared, simply, "It's not as if any of you would have any use for it, anyway."

Ugroth hadn't gone much further before the small human alchemist had called out from behind him with a slightly off voice. It appeared she hadn't been as bad off despite first appearances so he was quietly thankful that they weren't going to lose anymore just yet. He had looked back at the girl quietly and gave a bit of a nod acknowledging her though he didn't make much more of it. While he did pick up on the nervousness the ogre simply didn't know what to say at that moment being more focused on covering the distance to the visible plant life than conversation. Admittedly he was not the most expressive of his kind in face or voice preferring a quiet stoicism, you wanted loud and proud his brother made up for it in spades, not to mention he had difficulty knowing how to be around humans even if he himself was quite neutral to them. ~I'll have to make an effort to speak my thoughts, wouldn't do to act as if I'm alone.~

The ogre was doing a less detailed examination of the plants in general unless they looked as if there were edible parts or something of the sort grew off of them. He found one or two trees that appeared to have some form of nuts surrounding them on the ground, there were likely some still safe for eating, though some were still hanging so they were something to note as well as some sparse berry bushes which were in much the same state. He cracked one of the tree nuts open with a little pressure on the shell and then popped it into his mouth finding it to be a bit bland but it seemed fairly safe as nuts went. Ugroth cracked two more open before walking over to the girl who had been mumbling to herself in what he thought was exasperation. "Here have these. An apology for the silence, not entirely used to much company is all." He said thinking the human might feel a bit better knowing they might have something to bring back to the group as well not to mention a light snack for now.

"My name is Ugroth if you wanted to know. Don't think I got yours during the trip between the discomfort and busyness." The ogre said managing a mild chuckle at how silly the situation seemed in retrospect.

-Gamie Jaeger-

Eyeing The Demon, the hunter gave a solemn nod as he kept his eyes on the target - the remains of the ship. Gamie spoke naught a word as they traversed closer and closer to the remains of the ship and he actually enjoyed the quiet nature of this group. There was a very faint smile on his face that would probably be near impossible to notice, but then again, who would? They had their task set out for them; no need to be distracted by transient actions.

Once they were upon the destroyed piece, Gamie decided it was best to place the driftwood near what appeared to be a well situated opening. How... fortunate to say the least. Grunting, he left the pieces, The Demon decided it would be best if he scouted on ahead. Nodding, the hunter stayed himself outside as he awaited further directives on whether the vessel was okay to enter or stated otherwise. From the way the sun was position, there should of been enough light to shine through, considering it was wrecked.

Upon hearing a voice come from within giving the signal, he waited for everyone else to enter, keeping watch over any possible sign of life, benign or malign. Swiftly, Gamie entered into the space with everyone else. As he did, he took note of the warning The Demon gave.

He wasn't exactly wrong.

The area was littered with debris, ranging from shrapnel to fragmented wooden boxes containing absolutely nothing. While some items had dissipated, other certain items from what he denoted appeared to be well intact... instinct, will it. and hey, they could possibly find some use for the pieces of glass and wine bottles covering certain areas.

Deciding to cover another unoccupied area, Gamie cleared the path, putting the hazardous material into the splintered corpse of a jagged barrel as he began to inspect the area. Removing any excess blockage, he put it near the side of the barrel where he stored the damaged material, but not before noticing something akin to a worn, thick wooden stick protruding from the wreckage.

And before the hunter could exactly procure it, a shriek alerted him, which lead to an imminent response. Jerking his head to see the trouble, he balled up his fists and furrowed his eyebrows once he discerned the troubles. Foxy touched what she proclaimed in a cutesy manner, a "slime ball." Could of been a clump algae or something else, but he didn't bother, other than a short comment aimed at the Kitsune. "... advice... scream onl'e fer dangeh' or with a patna'," he mumbled as he extended his arm towards the waterlogged stock.

And in an instant, his eyes lit up as he began recognizing the simple design. Shoving the piece that was on top of his crossbow off, he brandished it with glee before checking for any obstructions or bumps. Once the inspection was done, he gave a small huff as he ascertained no arrows were near him. That turned out to be a bust... well, he at least had the glass.

"Ey, everyone," his voice was raised a little more than usual as he remained the opposite direction, "if ye' fine' any arrows, mind if I have em'?" Afterwords, he began to snoop around his section, though, moving at a slower pace. Ignoring the comment over the elf claiming some... red gemstone, Gamie found a certainly strange piece embedded in the sands.

What looked like an elongated nose protruded from a certain area; as he did with the other shards, he gripped the piece and pulled it out... before discovering the unfamiliar structure of said item... The vessel was spherical in nature and had a flat bottom. Along with it, there was the nose, per mentioned. Curious, Gamie found himself befuddled over how anyone might drink out of such an... eloquent glass.

Regardless, it was something they could use to drink out of, considering they get a fire going and removed the contaminants from seawater...

"... strange mug," he mumbled as he set his crossbow to the side. Sure, it was delicate, but something like this would keep them hydrated for the long run and was more prone to shattering if not careful.

Continuing sifting through the wreckage, he took note of the conversations going on behind him and made mental note over seeds. As his eyes scanned the area, he came upon a bag labeled "---beans." While part of the label was ripped off, surprisingly most of said condiments were still there, if not partially spilling out. "Foxy, I think I've discova'd what yer lookin' for."

Of course, anything beyond the three things he found, there was nothing more. This location had been exhausted for the most part, though it was a relatively closed space.

Taking one final glance at the pile of glass, he pondered on if they could meld said pieces together through the use of fire. Blacksmiths have done it with metal, so why not cautiously do it with glass? Gamie's face remained unperturbed, but his right eyebrow was raised as he studied the broken pieces as if they were some key to solving a unregistered mystery for a couple of seconds as he awaited Foxy's retort.

Masaru jerked his head towards the kitsune in the middle on lifting a wooden beam, almost buckling under the weight as he temporarily lost focus before the girl decided to reassure everyone that there was no issue at hand. It took a moment for the oni to regain his former stance, but at the very least the goods that the obstacle had been hiding were left unharmed.

"Phew. Well, it's fine that it's nothing dangerous, at least," he laughed as the rest of group seemed to chastise the kitsune for her actions. "No harm, no foul, right?"

With a smile, Masaru took a deep breath and shoved the beam against the hull of the ship behind it, propping it up there to keep it from falling back down onto anyone or anything. Brushing off his hands, the oni knelt down closer to the ground to see what he had revealed.

Another box of seeds, it seemed; so this had been where they were keeping the food stores! What a miracle that was. This time around, it was...
Rice! Yes! Sake!
...
Well, actually, no, not sake. Alcohol was a luxury, and though he was fairly certain that a drink right now might ease up tensions, turning it into workable food came first.

"Got some rice over here! I'll bring the box outside; better to do this now than forget about it later," he called out to the rest, spitting on both of his hand and rubbing them together before grabbing the box by its sides and heaving it into the air. With a steady page, the oni slowly moved the crate of rice outside the wreckage and plopped it down near the sand... Away from the water.

"Phew. That's good, that's good. Better than I expected, at least."

Nodding to himself in an attempt to psyche himself up, Masaru walked back into the shipwreck to continue digging for goods to use.

Turk emerged from the beach, soaking wet. There was a live fish clamped in his jaw, and two in his hands, all still thrashing.

"Go' 'ish" He said through the creature. He tossed the fish casually onto the sand. He also noted a crate of rice. While he personally wouldn't be eating it, he was glad to see that everyone else could be sorted out, at least for now.

"I need to make a spear or somefin' if I really wanna catch fish," Turk said to no one in particular. He made a gesture as if he were stabbing something with an invisible spear.

The catches were the trout fish Turk had saw earlier. They were a pale green color with surprisingly large eyes. Transparent fins flanked their left and right sides, as well as ran along the bottom and top of their bottoms. They had gone still now, suffocated to death, their mouths that had jaws lined with small, sharp teeth had stopped sucking in air.

Turk stopped stabbing the invisible thing in front of him and placed his hands on his hips, looking proudly upon his catch.

"I can prolly check to see if their poisonous. Gut 'em, check for glands. I doubt it, though. Looks good to eat, if ya ask me."

~Charlotte Lachance~

While she continued to quietly grumble to herself, she picked off a leaf from the bush, holding it to eye level. It might me a berry producing bush simply out of season. Upon further inspection though, it was still a plain, old, useless bush. She sighed, running the leaf over in her hands. There was still a chance, but without proper tools she would never be able to tell. So, for now, she left the plant, and turned to find something else.

Only to find a hand full of nuts shoved in her face. Well, a few nuts.

"Here have these. An apology for the silence, not entirely used to much company is all."

"Uh, uh...Thanks?" She hesitantly said. She hadn't even heard the ogre approach. How the hell did something so big move so silently? Or well, she was probably zoned out as usual. She took the nuts with hesitation, not trusting of the unknown item to start with. There was no telling what it actually was, and it might be something detrimental to their overall health. She ran her hands over the nut, furrowing her eyebrows slightly.

Well, without proper equipment there was only one way to determine what something was capable of. She bit the nut, and found it as Ugroth, bland but tolerable. She'd have to see if it had any alchemical properties later, but at the moment it didn't seem to be a danger to their health. Only time would tell, however. Poisonous or Venomous things could very well not have any immediate symptoms.

"My name is Ugroth if you wanted to know. Don't think I got yours during the trip between the discomfort and busyness."

"Uh, Charlotte." She replied, swallowing. "Charlotte LaChance. Alchemist from Astril. You know, cold country with a giant tower full of pompous scholars and shady mages." She chuckled lightly. Really, as much as she didn't like her current situation and despite wanting to not even be here it was a close tie with how much she disliked that place. "And it's fine. I'm not really one much for people either. I'd prefer if I could get back to my work, but...well, all of its gone now." The young woman sighed, shoulders slumping. She wasn't only talking about her research into that plant growth fertilizer either. All of her work, research, and everything else was on that ship. Recipes, formulas for brewing potions...research into what was one day going to culminate in her life work.

"A-anyways." She continued, "I'd be careful about touching some of these plants. We have no idea what they can do. They look harmless enough, but it'd be bad to touch something poisonous, since we don't have anything to make antidotes or other anti-venom from. Well...we could if my equipment miraculously survived, but glass tends to be rather fragile."

She was rambling now, wasn't she? Uncool, man.

~Sevita Lanka~

"This is mine, It's not as if any of you would have any use for it, anyway."

Sevita turned her head towards the voice. The elf. She had seen her a few times on the ship, but had as of yet to speak to her. Mostly because she was busy doing other things, and didn't allow herself any leisurely time to be spent making friends with everyone just yet. However, despite how cute she thought the elf was, she was sounding incredibly arrogant from that statement. The Garuda simply frowned slightly.

"Arrogance is not something desirable at the moment, Elf."

So far, two of her comrades seemed rather bad at this teamwork thing, though the Kitsune was likely merely from inexperience. That could be solved easily. Arrogance, though? Well, the Garuda Soldiers had a very specific way to deal with recruits who thought they had the best wings in the forest. For now though, she would let it go. It was not her place at the moment to...discipline someone in such a manner.

So, she busied herself with finding some more items that they could possibly use. Sifting through a few more of the boxes, she found a barrel labeled 'Wheat'. She may not be a farmer or skilled with agriculture, but she knew what wheat was. With a grunt, she hefted the barrel with little difficulty and followed the Oni's example of placing it outside the wreckage, just about the same time as Turk emerged from the sea with its bounty.

She placed the barrel next to the box of Rice. Hopefully there was someone here who had some skill in farming, or this was going to go to waste.

"I need to make a spear or somefin' if I really wanna catch fish, I can prolly check to see if their poisonous. Gut 'em, check for glands. I doubt it, though. Looks good to eat, if ya ask me."

"Fish will be helpful." Sevita replied to him. "If it is a spear you need, you may borrow mine." Normally, she would never let such a thing occur...but these weren't normal circumstances. Fish to feed everyone tonight would benefit everyone, and if her spear could help in that endeavor, she cared not.

After getting a series of stern looks and reprimands from the salvage crew, Yukine folded her ears back and tried to be as quiet as possible while she continued looking for supplies. The last thing she wanted to do was get on everyone's bad side on their first day here, but at least Masaru seemed to be forgiving. It seemed that the scythe was a good omen, though, as one by one, people began finding boxes of seeds that had survived the crash.

"Foxy, I think I've discova'd what yer lookin' for."

Yukine hopped over to Gamie and took a look at what he found. "Alright! Soybeans! Just be careful, the bag is broken. We have to make sure that none of these get wet. The salt water will dry out the seeds, or even worse, if they're too damp mold could set in and ruin the whole batch." She stuck the handle of the scythe into her kimono sash, and then took the bag of beans with both hands, carrying it carefully outside and set it down next to the other salvaged food. Wheat, rice, soy... she looked at the three crops and was already thinking about how she would set up her farm. They'd certainly have to go inland, as none of these things would grow in sand, and especially not this close to the ocean.

Then her eyes fell on the fish that Turk had caught. Her mouth was already beginning to water as she thought of the delicious meal that was in store for them if he could catch a few more. "Thanks lizard man! You're really good at fishing. It's good that we have something eat. It'll be a long time before these crops are ready, especially since there's not much of a farming crew right now..." She looked down, the first pang of sadness sinking in. All those poor people she was looking forward to building an amazing farm with were now lost to the ocean. She shook her head and pushed those feelings away; now wasn't the time for mourning. "Anyway, there might be some more seeds inside. I'm gonna give one more check." She looked at Sevita, speaking in a soft voice. "And I promise I'll be quiet this time."

She walked back inside and checked another corner of the wreck. Her movement wasn't stifled at all by the farm tool sticking up out of her sash; while many people would have clumsily bumped into things with a stick on their back, Yukine was in her domain. She naturally moved about as if it were just another part of her body. She swiped away some debris, and her eyes went wide. She stifled a squeal of delight, then spoke in a strained whisper. "Guys, I found some barley. Somebody help me move this beam." The crate was pinned down by what was probably part of the ship's mast. Yukine might have been able to move it herself if she was in peak condition, but she didn't want to risk hurting herself, especially when she felt as fatigued as she did.

Ugroth waited patiently for the alchemist to take the two tree nuts not in a hurry at the moment noting her hesitation at first, likely partially caused by his sudden appearance as she had been quite focused. It was understandable given that these were new lands and new plants but he had learned himself or by way of word that most tree nuts were edible if not entirely tasty so taking the chance seemed less severe to him. He imagined that his thought on the matter might not have been entirely correct to someone who would more deeply investigate such things but they had little choice for now besides learning by experience. His own thoughts strayed to what animals might come to eat the fruits or nuts as they could be tracked to more of their kind, an opportunity to gain some insight into them if not simply to get food for the group.

The ogre made a mental note of Charlotte's name as she spoke also mentioning the name of her home that took him a moment to place not to mention a lightness of feeling from hearing the chuckle. ~Seems like the shaman and his assistant weren't off the mark in what they said about Astril's finer minds.~ He thought finding the girl's description amusing and accurate about her homeland. The fact that the human was of a similar thought regarding company eased his reservations somewhat as it was nice not to have to explain it. It didn't take much to see just how upset she was over the loss of her alchemy tools let alone her other possessions in the ship though he couldn't blame her for it. His own bow and arrows were lost among the confusion, all of which he had hand crafted himself, which pained him as it was quite important to an efficient hunt. As much as he disliked his loss he was sure with his axe it would be possible to make a new one provided they found proper trees further in land. The hunter had continued to listen as Charlotte spoke again not wanting to stop her even if she had been rambling as there was no need for rudeness especially as the subject was a proper one given the situation.

"I'll do my best to avoid that problem though it would be better if I was the one to find out. Might not have as bad of an effect on me so the rest of you remain in good condition." Ugroth said frankly knowing even at less than full capacity he could do his job well enough but he remembered something relating to her concern. "Though it might be less convenient you might be able to use similar methods to our shaman for making use of the plants we might find. I know how to shape wood so it might be possible to make a bowl and grinder once we find some larger trees to cut from."

He thought he might offer to at least help in what limited way he could to lessen the difficulty of Charlotte's predicament. There was no reason to not make use of the skills they all had to bring so giving her even simple tool might be of great benefit.

"I'm going to start collecting more of those nuts as well as some berries not far off, they look and taste like any good berry I've ever had on my travels." The ogre said casually as he paced back over to the trees removing his pelt to use as a makeshift pouch to hold them fur side out.

Thanox continued to sift through the remains of the ship. So far it seemed that the others had managed to recover a few bags of seeds, these ones in better shape than the one he had found, as well as a red crystal that the elf seemed determined to keep. He shook his head when he heard her declare that she would be the only one to use it. Hoarding things would not help the group in any way. On the other hand though, he had no idea how to use it, so he supposed that it may be for the best.

While he searched a thought occurred to him. “Perhaps this ship could serve as our shelter, at least briefly. We would need to make sure it is safe to stay in, but it could keep us from being exposed to the elements.” He said to no one in particular as he looked around. It would take some work patching some of the holes, but it might be a good place to start, the biggest problem would be the tide. If they couldn’t find a part of the ship that was high enough to stay dry then it would never work. Still, there would be time to decide where to sleep later. Right now they needed supplies, and once they finished searching the ship they could check farther inland and hopefully find freshwater. Shaking his head Thanox resumed looking for anything useful.

As he continued to his fruitless search he heard the kitsune ask for help. She had found a crate of seeds, but it was pinned under a large piece of debris. He walked next to the girl. “I will assist you. On three. One, two, three!” He bent down and grasped the broken piece of wood with all four arms and pulled up. It was quite heavy, but he was able to move it to the side with her help.
He picked up the box and handed it to the kitsune. It occurred to him that he did not know her name, he had only learned the names of a few individuals, but it would be rude not acquaint himself with the others, especially seeing as how they would all be working together to survive now. “I am called Thanox, I do not believe I ever caught your name.”

-Gamie Jaeger-

Gamie watched as the younger fox gave some information that could be troublesome, regarding if any of the seedlings absorbed any salt water... along with things involving mold. The lady seemed to have a scythe also; he could only guess that meant she was the farmer of the group, considering she sounded familiar with these items. The man payed attention to her before watching the lady carefully retrieve said bag of seeds and began her haul outside of the ship.

Looks like it was his turn to follow suit as the hunter grabbed the stock of his crossbow and gently picked up the glass bottle. Following suit and taking his small haul outside, Gamie emerged from the hull behind the Kitsune, depositing his discoveries near the driftwood.

As he did so, he found that Scales had returned from his recent endeavors involving fish, and tossed the now deceased creatures into the sand. His eyes lit up at another set of food, however he mentioned wanting to check the glands to determine if they were poisonous. Like the Lizard, he doubt that they were toxic since they looked like trout... though, there was a chance of them being a different type of fish.

Regardless, he ignored part of the excited exclamation from the Kitsune and swiftly delved back into the broken piece that was once a ship. Of course, it did make him wonder if there were any survivors adrift.

Poking his head outside the ruins, he noticed the Garuda exchanging a spear with Scales. He denoted her wings would be excellent for scouting since the waves could easily be comparable to sand. Despite his eyesight, he would miss something since they continuously rolled.

Walking past the Kitsune who decided to continue scouring through the ship for supplies. As he slowly approached the duo, he tapped The Amazon's shoulder with his encompassed hand.

"... say, Amazon," Gamie mumbled to her once he obtained her attention. "... since ya' have excellent mobilit', could you go out t'see if there ah any survivors or extra supplies adrift?"

Irial eyed the bird-winged woman.

"What? It's not as if it isn't true," she said, simply, pocketing the gem for the moment. "Do you have any idea what to do with it? I don't think so."

The young high elf folded her arms, draping her staff down to the left as she did. Really now, what was the point of protesting when she'd only spoken the truth? Who else here had the capabilities to use a fire gem? No-one, as far as she knew. No, Irial was doing the others a service by taking it for herself. She could, after all, now utilize it to keep fires lit, and defend the camp. No-one else could do more then look at the pretty colors.

"It's a magic gem, fire specifically," the small blonde continued, "There's nothing else anyone here can do with it. Aside from, I don't know, make jewelry, but what a waste that would be. Only someone who has the capabilities of a mage can make use of it, and I'm the only one here who even has knowledge of spells. It's not idle arrogance when it's the truth."

And that was that. The elf girl looked back over her shoulder, eyes scanning the wreck once again. Things... didn't look promising when it came to finding anything else. Rather, it was exactly the same kind of mess she thought it would be. At least some of the others had located food, but why sake would be at all important here was beyond her. Alcohol was not exactly her favorite thing to drink. It made people slow, and stupid. Irial wanted nothing to do with that.

Masaru's spirit seemed to brighten as more supplies were brought out of the wreckage; after all, this much was already a miracle and a half on its own. Turk's return with a bunch of fish, too, was certainly something to be pleased about. But at the same time, though...

Well, the grains they had recovered were probably meant to be sown into the ground like the kitsune had mentioned earlier. In essence, everything they had here was for the future, which meant that the issue right now was finding a source of food that didn't consist of grains. The fish, at least, was a start, but...

"Huh? Oh, shoot. That's... Unpleasant."

There was some sort of snakelike creature lying off in one of the darker corners of the room, glaring at him. While it only seemed to have just been awakened, Masaru frowned and shook his head before cautiously glancing at the creature, what it was guarding, and the rest of the people salvaging.

"A snake...? I think that's a snake. Crap. Hope it ain't poisonous. Guys! Careful over here!"

With a bit of squinting, Masaru could make out the slightest indication of what the snake was sitting on--a box of... Wait, was that labeled 'hardtack'?
Well, admittedly, that tasted pretty damn horrible, but workable food was, in fact, workable food. A crate of that size, if rationed properly, could last for a day or two... But hey, better than nothing!

"Anyone got, like... Something to kill this thing? Or at least scare it off? I'm pretty sure we don't want to risk poison right now, y'know?"

"You could make a Mortar and Pestle?!" Charlotte immediately brightened at this. She clasped her hands together and stared brightly up at the ogre. That would be something she could definitely use. It wasn't something she could use to make some super complex concoctions, but she could make some powder-type medicines and remedies that could certainly be used to help people, especially if they get injured. She wasn't a craftsman at all, and couldn't make one herself so this action was something that was definitely welcome.

"That would be much appreciated!" She said, following after him. Mostly, she didn't want to be alone at the moment. The chances of some predator or sneaky thing attacking her was low, but she wasn't a fighter by any means. The best she could do was snark something to death at the moment, or glare them down with a gaze of pure unadulterated hatred. Both of which, would likely be not so effective. She should make an effort to try and find some useful roots, berries, and herbs around here. Thankfully, it seemed Urgoth had noticed some berries himself further in. She'd have to collect some herself.

"Berries?" She mused coughing quietly, regaining her composure just a bit. "I would say caution once again. There's no telling what those berries actually are...but if you're certain they're safe I shall trust your judgement." Urgoth seemed like a trustworthy sort, at least. "I'm going to take a few for myself. I am rather...accustomed to the properties of things. You can't tell much of how useful something is without running thorough tests, but I am confident in at least discerning some properties in certain ingredients." If she had some fresh water and a retort she could also possibly make some...at least, somewhat effective tonics.

So the alchemist walked over to one of these berry bushes. Even if the berries weren't useful for anything other than foot, there was a chance the root could hold some properties when crushed or ground into a powder.

Seeing the lizard had no interest in her help, the Garuda frowned though said nothing as Gamie decided to speak to her. He asked if she could search the coast for survivors and other possible wreckage. Though, she had to wonder what exactly the 'amazon' nickname was about. Normally, she would have said yes to such a thing. However, even being early autumn conditions weren't exactly the best for flying at the moment.

"Hmm...that would be a good use of my skills, hunter," She replied. "but it is rather...cold. Garuda wings do not fly well in colder temperatures. It is unfortunate. If it was summer I would have done it without being asked. But it is cold in these lands compared to the forest, even during the summer. My wings will be of little help flying any higher than the trees I am afraid."

She wasn't lying. Garuda wings were highly sensitive to cold temperatures, wind, and water. It was one of the reasons she was glad nothing was broken when she washed up on shore. Letting that water stagnate on her wings during the autumn months was asking to get frostbite on her wings, and that was not something that would help anyone. She'd likely have to be very careful with them in the coming months unless she wanted to seriously injure herself.

She didn't get a chance to speak much further though, as she was interrupted by the elf.

"What? It's not as if it isn't true, Do you have any idea what to do with it? I don't think so."

An arrogant statement, though a true one. Garuda were not exactly a magically inclined race. A shaman was a rare thing among their people, wise and often revered as a source of learning and wisdom. Something this Elf seemed to not have at all, and that was rather disappointing. In fact, she would say this Elf was soiling the good name of shamans and magic users everywhere.

"It's a magic gem, fire specifically, There's nothing else anyone here can do with it. Aside from, I don't know, make jewelry, but what a waste that would be. Only someone who has the capabilities of a mage can make use of it, and I'm the only one here who even has knowledge of spells. It's not idle arrogance when it's the truth."

The Garuda simply narrowed her eyes at the Elf, wings shifting in mild annoyance. She gave a brief nod to Gamie, signaling she was done speaking to him as she spoke to the elf.

"Perhaps not, cute little Elf. Truth is truth, as you say." She replied. "But arrogance is still arrogance. You think yourself the only one able to use it and immediately labeling another incapable. If you wish to help, and were not arrogant then you would have instead thought to see if there were others capable instead of immediately labeling all of them as incapable." And that was all she was going to say to the Elf on that matter. She had no reason to speak to her further, and at the moment it seemed something more required her attention.

The fox needed help moving a beam, but as much as she would have been glad to assist her it seemed something that was more suited towards her skills appeared at the same time, and it seemed someone else had already managed that.

"A snake...? I think that's a snake. Crap. Hope it ain't poisonous. Guys! Careful over here! Anyone got, like... Something to kill this thing? Or at least scare it off? I'm pretty sure we don't want to risk poison right now, y'know?"

A snake? That was certainly cause for concern. She walked over to the Oni, calmly observing the serpent. A spear was far from an effective weapon at combating a swift moving, small snake. Unless they had another weapon, however, then that wasn't going to leave them with much of a choice. Not to mention, it looked like it was sitting on some valuable food.

She had some experience in dealing with snakes at least. They were abundant in the forest.

"Spears are not a good weapon against such creatures." She replied, with a shake of her head. However, that was what armor and protection was for. Her clothing may not exactly be the most flashy of things, but it was good enough to at least protect against a snake bite...probably. "But I think I am the best equipped. I shall handle it, Strong One."

Also, if they could kill the snake, it'd mean another source of food for the day.

What? Snakes were delicious when cooked and served with some alcohol and spices. Had nothing to do with being part bird at all, nope.

Yukine let out a huff as she lifted the beam with the ant man, carefully maneuvered it out of the way, and set it down. "Whew, thanks for the help Thanox. It's nice to meet you. I'm Yukine." She gave the insect a friendly smile and went to offer her hand, but got a little confused whether to shake his top or his bottom hand. She eventually decided to put it in the middle of them and let him decided which to shake with. She then took the box and started to walk out to set it down with the other seeds. "Hmm, must be convenient having four arms, especially in a duel. You could block and attack at the same time with both sides of your body. Do your people have a four sword style?" She spoke with a curious tone, as she set the crate down, and then walked back into the ship.

Thanox had the interesting idea of turning the wreck into their shelter, but as Yukine looked around, her face crinkled up at the idea. It was damp, dirty, and smelled like low tide. Plus, with all the debris, planks, and broken glass lying around, she felt their efforts would be better spent making a new shelter rather than re-purposing this one. Plus, it seemed like there were some other problems with this place...

Yukine took out her scythe and approached the snake when Masaru asked for help. Snakes were a big problem back at Ayabukuro. They would always slither around in the fields ambushing frogs, mice, and other rodents. Farmers had to be careful where they stepped, but fortunately most of the snakes in Ayabukuro weren't poisonous. However, it was wise to be careful on this new continent. Sevita seemed confident in her abilities to handle the creature, so Yukine stood aside and let the bird woman take care of it; it would be rude to get in her way after she already challenged the creature herself. Plus, she wouldn't have to risk nicking the blade of her scythe fighting the creature. "Woo! Go get it bird girl!" she cheered, standing by with her scythe ready in case Sevita decided to ask for help.

-Lilita Rosetti-

"Make it stooooppp...."

The Arrowhead rode the waves up and down, the ocean thrashing the vessel to and fro. Lilita was curled up in the corner of the port side, her stomach groaning as her face turned multiple shades of green. Transportation had never been her preferred method of travel, as motion sickness constantly played its devilish tricks on her. But, there was no other way to cross the great sea in its entirety without this vessel, so Lilita had reluctantly joined the crew on this forsaken beast. It was for the good of Tawken and all nations, so she'd power through it. Indeed, now was the time to rise and help, for the storm wasn't letting up. Lilita stood, ready to assist in whatever way she could. She took a step forward....and immediately collapsed back into a prostrating position. "Uuuwuuugh" was the sickly burping noise she chose to denote her struggle. She attempted to crawl towards the sailors that were trying their damnedest to hold the ropes firm, a hunter apparently doing the same. She made it about four feet before hurling all over the deck, the swaying ship making the substance roll past her and off the side of the seacraft. Lilita figured she'd do the same, and perhaps then the churning of her stomach would cease. She turned her eyes to the side of the ship, and just that moment, water rolled over the deck, drenching her and knocking the girl into the railing. Lilita's mind raced to a million miles-a-minute, wondering if this was the end of the Arrowhead, and by extension her. As if to answer this thought, the ocean sent a Tsunami towering over the boat, slowly crashing down to sink it. Lilita was dragged under the water's surface, and all was still, frozen in time. The maiden raised her hand towards the surface, towards the sky, making out the shape of the moon and its brilliance, as if it were her guardian angel. Then, everything mixed together in a slushy black.

~

Light.
Pain.
Softness.

These were the things Lilita would slowly gain consciousness to. She was laying face down in her arms, rested on the sand of a beach. It appeared fate had spared her a death she wouldn't mind, and instead chose her as a fateful survivor of the horrid shipwreck. She was covered by small, light planks of wood, and she felt the need to arise. She heard voices in her subconscious, most likely the other crewmates that possibly survived with her, or maybe she was just crazy. Either way, someone's day needed to be lightened up, so Lilita rose up out of the rubble and skipped off to say hi!....

...is what she would've done, had a familiar sensation not washed over her. While the wood covering her would easily have been knocked off by the simple act of standing up, it appeared Lilita was incapable of even that, as the sea was not finished with her yet. The leftover feelings of the moments before the crash hit the girl like a stampede of bulls, and Lilita gave in to idleness as her face turned green once more.

"Please...someone help meeeee....gwuurk..." She gurgled as loud as she could, which admittedly wasn't very loud.

Levita offered Turk her spear, but either Turk didn't hear her or didn't want it because he didn't respond to the offer. "Roight!"

He kneeled and cut into one of the fish's sides with his knife. He dug around in there with his reptillian fingers. He knew the anatomy of a fish back home, and this new fish seemed to mimic it's design. There were a few differences, but no suspicious looking sacks 'o poison.

"Looks good to eat, I'll go ahead and test it out, then."
He cut the head off of the fish and took a bloody bite out of it. One odd thing about being an Urloj that many nations seem to find strange is the preference of raw fish over cooked ones. He stared blankly into the distance for a small while, before swallowing. He raised an eyebrow (or part of his face right over his eye).

"I, uh..." He took another bite, and another blank stare followed.

"That's a really good fish right there." He wiped the blood off his mouth. He eyed the two other fish he'd caught. He hoped they were as good as this one; Because this fish was unbelievably excellent. This New World fish was new and strange tasting to the traditional ones of the Old World, but they were so in a way that made them taste like a dream. Taste like a dream? "Taste like a dream." He mumbled to himself. He stood to his feet. Yep. Good eating tonight.

He was so caught up in his fish gutting and eating that he would not be the one to find someone new who had just woken up on the beach.

Ugroth was happy to see Charlotte's mood take a turn for the better at his suggestion and if there was any doubt before now he would have a go once the time came at making the 'mortar and pestle' as she called it. It was much preferred to have everyone in higher spirits if possible as there was far to go before they were secure but at least they could manage some positive thinking for the moment. He felt the best way forward was certainly heading further inland as soon as they could manage it because there was little to work with on the sandy beach. After all, food was well and good but another major concern would be drinkable water considering they were near only saltwater which was definitely not going to help them. He also listened to the warning of caution from Charlotte which he would certainly heed though he was glad she had believed in his judgement on them. "A simple trick to know if they are edible is to look at how colorful and attention getting they are compared to the plant. They work to distract the animals from the main plant by providing something tasty and noticeable, fascinating thing it is." He said sparing a little knowledge and also his interest in nature.

The ogre decided to let the alchemist have a closer look at the berry bushes while he got together as many tree nuts as he could. For him it wasn't particularly hard to tell which were suitable food because the shells seemed to darken as they decayed which made it more obvious and allowed him to retrieve a fair few based on that knowledge. They had filled up somewhere near a quarter of his pelt/sack once he was done picking through them which made him realize how much more they could have gotten had they arrived last season or a bit earlier this one. He made one interesting observation about the dead or dying nuts however was that on closer inspection there were insects either eating or moving them to be eaten slowly. The little critters were a welcome sight as he now noticed some were among the fallen berries as well which helped him to get a picture of what tended to eat the plants near the shoreline at a low level. There would no doubt be something that preyed upon the insects though what it was or how it did it was unknown but a welcoming thought.

Ugroth started to gather up some of the berries now having made the decision to put them on top of the nuts as not to squeeze the juice out of them and ruin his pelt. The small fruits took more patience as he did his best not to crush them in hand though there was little chance of him asking for help. There was maybe a little too much pride for him to outright ask for help unless it was serious when it came to this sort of thing. Despite the squishy fruit forcing him to be more careful he was making decent progress at getting them off of the bush though it would take him longer than he would liked.

"I forget sometimes how being large can slow even simple tasks down. This one for sure but better to do it right than not at all." The ogre said before unceremoniously snapping one of the small twigs on the bush eliciting a sigh from him. "Or at least try to do it right."

"A simple trick to know if they are edible is to look at how colorful and attention getting they are compared to the plant. They work to distract the animals from the main plant by providing something tasty and noticeable, fascinating thing it is."

huh.

Now that he mentioned it, he was right wasn't he? She had only a beginners understanding about botany, but she remembered reading something about that in a book.

"Hmm...now that you mention it." She placed a hand to her chin. "You're right. I'm not overly familiar with plants, though I do have a beginner understanding in botany and I believe I remember reading something about that in some research text or another." She let Urgoth go and gather more of those nuts, while she inspected the berry bush. She picked a few more of the berries, eating a few of them in the process. At least she wouldn't be going hungry, and the berries were at least somewhat juicy. It wouldn't be a substitute for well, water, but it could help stave off dehydration a bit.

She then made her way to the roots of one of the berry bushes.

"I forget sometimes how being large can slow even simple tasks down. This one for sure but better to do it right than not at all. Or at least try to do it right."

Charlotte chuckled lightly at this.

"I was told once that it's better to try and fail, rather than never to attempt to succeed at all." She replied to Urgoth. "A lot of the scholars in Astril can be pompous asses, but they do know how to get things done. That's something that we're taught immediately upon entry into the main tower. Of course, then you run into the problem of being too busy asking yourself if its possible rather than thinking if you actually should." She sighed at that, voice taking a somewhat grim turn but she didn't elaborate. It was no secret that a lot of Astril's mages and scholars were of the shady sort. Not to mention, the recent disappearances of non-locals.

With that said, the alchemist went back to the bush. She didn't really want to speak any more of Astril at the moment, and maybe she shouldn't have brought it up. Sometimes though, she had a problem keeping her mouth shut. So back to the roots with her. She dug into the ground, pulling up the roots of the bush with some effort. She didn't dig them up completely, no, she just wanted to study them. All plants had certain identifiers she could use to at least perhaps determine what plant species she was dealing with here. At least, if it was a distant relative to a plant back home she could possibly identify it...but no such luck. She also didn't have any knife she could use to cut into the root and take samples with either.

"Hmm...nothing like back home. Roots are Adventitious...it's a berry bush. Similar to strawberries?...might have some fatigue relieving properties..." she started mumbling to herself again, and was likely already drowning out anything else Urgoth might say.

Sev didn't wait for Masaru to move. She slowly approached the snake, the creature hissing at her in a warning fashion. Normally, she'd approach it from above and snatch it up in her talons, but considering they were indoors...yeah, not happening. Maybe she could do something similar if she could goad it into attacking. She liked to think her legs were rather flexible.

"Woo! Go get it bird girl!"

Sevita simply cast a glace back at Yukine. She hadn't done anything wrong per se, but Sevita was a bit caught off guard by the girls friendliness. There was a time and place for such things...but, well, she couldn't help but to feel somewhat embarrassed from the cheering. Normally, something like this would be standard routine. Cheering someone for something so simple wasn't something she would have done, as it was expected to be done.

Turning her head attention back to the Snake, she positioned herself for a quick, clean, hopefully efficient kill here. She wasn't sure if the thing was venomous or not, and it would be bad if it was and she'd get bitten. If she had to take a bite she could goad it into attacking the armor on her shins. Of course, the ideal way to deal with this would be to somehow grab its head and kill it before it could even do that.

...it might actually be best to have a bit of help with that. Besides, the fox seemed eager to prove herself.

"Little fox," She said, getting Yukine's attention. "I will distract the serpent. If possible, try and grab its tail and hold it at arms length. If you can manage it however, try and grab it just below its head."

Thanox nodded as the kitsune introduced herself and stuck out her hand towards him. It was a strange gesture that he hadn’t seen until he left his homeland and traveled through other settlements, but he understood that it was used as a sign of friendship. He extended one of his upper arms and grasped her hand, slowly moving it up and down as he had seen others do. It seemed to please her and she walked off with the box, asking if his people used four swords. He was actually glad that someone was interested in his people, and in their fighting styles. At first he had not guessed that she was a warrior, but looking now she did seem to carry herself like a fighter would.

“Yes, there are some of our warriors who use four swords, although it is difficult to master so not many do so. The ones that do are usually elites and are either tasked with guarding the queen or are given important missions during war.” Thanox explained as they exited the ship. It was nice to have someone to talk to, normally he enjoyed being alone but being completely cut off from his people was not as easy as he first thought.

While Yukine walked back into the ship, Thanox noticed another of the survivors, Turk, had managed to catch a few fish and seemed to be enjoying one now. “Food will be important, but so will water.” Thanox said as he turned to ocean. He didn’t like it, back home water was rare and valuable, and it saved lives, but this water was abundant and yet was not safe to drink. It was almost funny in a strange way.

He shook his head as he walked back into the remains of the ship. A few others had already moved farther inland, so hopefully they had found something, and if not they could always search again tomorrow. For now they still needed to finish checking the ship, although they seemed to have covered most of it already. He ignored the others as they seemed concerned with a snake, he knew they could handle it so he moved farther into the ship.
