Smollermat was a much poppier and mainstream music person and had no knowledge of the Illuminati either, no wonder than I currently am. David Guetta, Pitbull, LMFAO...you name it. If it was popular and catchy, I probably liked it. That is not to say I don't give these old(ish, they're like five years old) tracks a listen every now and then still, but the craze is gone and my spectrum has been very much broadened since.
i still find this music video hilarious though, fite me
I can sing this song over and over and over and over again. I love the movie Moulin Rouge! A jukebox movie done right. And I know all the lyrics which makes me trash for this song. Imagine I'm eating lunch with my high school friends while I played this song on my phone. Outside under the nice, warm sun and I'm just singing. SUDDENLY I JUMP ON THE TABLE AND SING MY HEART OUT FOR THE WORLD TO HEAR because who cares right? Yeah. That actually happened.
D a y 8 // A song I liked when I was younger
This song use to come on the radio a lot. My mom was/is big on Freestyle. I use to pronounce the lyrics so terribly wrong as a little girl because well... I was a little girl. But now I listen to it and jam to it - feeling all that nostalgia.
Okay, this one is totally not fair, because younger for me basically means the same age as most of you all LOL. Okay, anywho, this was my favorite song when I was a freshman in college. I still like the song but it was just wonderful on so many levels back then. It still takes me back.
I was pretty young when this track came out, but it is definitely the first song that I actually have vivid memories of loving. Either it was popular on the radio for a number of years, or it was just a staple cassette tape that we had in the car. Yes, I said tape, because this shit was lighting it up before CDs became the main form of portable tunes. Looking up the lyrics now, I realize that young 5-year-old Kayla DEFINITELY had no idea what she was singing along to, but I sure as shit sang along, 'shake it shake it baby'ing in my living room. Although I am from New York, my Aunt and Uncle (who partially raised me) met in California and lived there for a short time so, between that knowledge and this song, I developed a bit of an obsession with the sunshine state as a child. When I was twelve, they took me to Cali on a vacation to see my Uncle's family, and it was like a dream come true. Honestly, I kind of still love the idea of California and hope to maybe live there someday, if life allows.
My mother always had a "colorful" taste in music and that was often extended to her daughters. In short: she was a fan of Matchbox 20 and early Nelly. While I'm an avid fan of Matchbox 20's music, I can't really say that I enjoy Nelly all too much. Although I'm not a fan of Nelly, I don't mind this song and find it to be quite catchy even now. I actually recall myself being a fan of it when I was younger hence why I placed it for today's prompt.
Now, as an "adult", it just reminds me of my mother and is, like I said previously, rather catchy.
Not going to lie, this was a tough one for me. I like a lot of songs tha tmost would consider “guilty pleasures”, so it really came down to this one and another one. The other song I was considering was too cringy to let others know I like it, so here is another cringe-worthy one. Okay, maybe not really cringe-cringe, but it’s something I’m somewhat ashamed to admit I liked. I mean, Black Veil Brides are much better now, but every band had to start somewhere, right?
Day VIII: A song you liked when you were younger
Yes, I’m a weeb, but I don’t care. This song was one of those that opened my eyes to Jpop. Granted it’s the english version, but it still introduced me to Utada Hikaru. I have no regrets for choosing this song. I love Kingdom Hearts and I love Utada Hikaru.
So here's the first song I'd ever bought. Had it on one of those chunky iPods with the clunky circular touchpad thing. Good times.
On a related note: Bionicle was the shit. I had the green and white Toa Inika models until I mixed up the parts and lost the manual when I was 10. RIP.
My (half) sister is part Puerto Rican and loves her jams. This is only one of many songs she has played but it's the first one I could think of 2 AM in the morning. Also. I love Zumba and Zumba tends to play Latin Pop often. I LOVE TO DANCE TO MANY THINGS SO THIS DAY WASN'T EASY TO TRIM DOWN.
A song about a kid with a lot of ideas, who isn't really influenced by his peers or his parents, but by his own imagination. Plus it's fuckin' badass.
Day 7: A song that is your guilty pleasure
Gotta be honest, me and my friends in our senior year of high school would make fun of Lady Gaga relentlessly. We'd play her songs sarcastically and make poker face jokes. But some of her stuff is pretty catchy.
(Small story, I was at work on my route and was blasting this on the radio. I got out of my truck and saw this middle aged black guy dancing to my music sarcastically and I joined him in the parking lot.)
Day 8: A song you liked when you were younger
This song might also coincide with what song reminds me of summer. Growing up as a tan mixed race kid in Jacksonville Florida (where I was mistaken as Latino a fair bit) and just being surrounded by Latino and summer themes made me relate to this song so much back in 1999 when I was 8, and now. I want to sing this song at some point.
Admittingly, I don’t know who originally did this song, but does this really need an artist? We all know the Mortal Kombat theme. But more to the point, it’s the Mortal fucking Kombat theme. Whenever this plays, you better be dancing like I was just doing a minute ago. Shit is enough to get me pumped. That first dun dun dun dun dun after the beginning intro is just the best!
Originally, I was tempted to pick "Shut Up And Dance" by Walk The Moon, but it felt painfully wrong (and obvious) to choose that exact song. Instead, I chose a song that has "good vibes" from another female artist that I adore and the result was "Raise Your Glass" by P!NK. Not only is this song generally feel good, it definitely makes you want to get up and move around.
. . Or at least that's what I think or else I wouldn't have picked this song for this prompt.
I was thinking of your song last night for the guilty pleasure song XD. It was all over the radio when I was in college in 2011.
Randomly thought regarding music, but somewhat similar: Near had a heart attack when you put Smooth by Santana down for one of the prompts. I was at school once and my friend managed to code a way to install music on autoplay into people's pages on this website I used to use and I asked my other friend to do it for me. I said, "Go ahead, pick a song that represents me."
Day 09 - A Song What Makes Me Wanna Get My Groove On
I mean, just listen to the song. Just watch the video. If it doesn't make some part of your body want to bust a move then you're probably dead so please bury yourself.
When I first heard this song my first reaction was "Damn, these are some dirty grunge beats." and my later thoughts were "I love it, it's like a goth rave." Now whenever this song comes on my shuffle I boogie my ass off in a style that can only be described as... goth rave. Here, have some gifs for reference. The lyrics are kind of sad, but I'm about that life. I'm super excited to see Frank and Dewees live next month! :3 Anyway, that's about all I have to say on this one.
