@Spinna I'm perfectly fine with this backstory. It goes along with my headcanon that Bloodstone hired Chromite to come on his expenditure as her first mission. Unless she was made on Earth, but that's an easy fix. Either way, it's interesting to see a scared side of Chromite. I'm going to assume that all Chromites are equipped with shields then, since we know similar gems can wield a variety of weapons so not all Chromites would have a shield as there gem weapon.

@Vocab As shown by the Rubies in the show, similar gems have an array of personalities and weaponry. Maybe even powers too (My headcanon is that some powers are guaranteed while others are developed based off of experiences.). Personalities seem to be almost randomized at birth and then slightly adjusted based off of experiences. Of course, any imperfections or faults in their creation could affect their mental state and therefore their personalities. Any explanation someone can give for why their gem acts like it does is plausible.

Edit: The only explanation that isn't possible would be a programmable personality.

@Kronshi Soooo... In short, my idea wouldn't work? Slightly disheartening, since I needed a reason as to why Charoite isn't being a manipulative and psychotic maniac at the moment...

@Vocab Best explanation I could help you with is perhaps a defect in her birth that gives her that bloodlust she has, but since she's a newborn the defect has gotten a hold of her yet and will slowly come to affect her more as she gets stronger.

@Kronshi Perhaps... I could always say it's a side effect of her power, which causes emotional instability in herself and corrupts her as it develops. Would that work?

@Kronshi Awesome! Yeah, it was fun writing that side of Chromite for sure, hopefully it will help shed light on why she isn't like that now. And yeah, I thought this would work well enough with your headcanon. Like, maybe Bloodstone noticed her at some point after her jobs with the other Chromite soldiers? As for all Chromites being equipped with shields, that sounds good to me. Gems have been shown using equipped weapons before, so it makes sense. Since Chromites are supposed to be frontline defenders, they would all at least need shields, and a Chromite who couldn't generate armor would likely be seen as defective and disposed of.

@Vocab That works too. Whatever works for you. Honestly, I just thought she was already in demon spawn mode but was hiding it because it would get her closer to who she wanted to kill.

@Spinna I mean, a Chromite with a spear/lance could still be defensive. But I see your point.
"Can you generate armor? No, can you generate a shield? No, not even a helmet? Then why are you here?"

@Kronshi Since they already have their powers pretty much, but they're just unstable and weak, that would mean her instability is present, just not detectable. That's why she took a liking to Bloodstone early on, and ignored Aqua because she subconscious deemed her too... "Good".

I am running out of gems to use. Help. I need new gems. Fusions are hard.

@Kronshi Haha yeah. I mean, they let Peridot live so maybe a weak Chromite would have a place on Homeworld, but their future prospects wouldn't look good. I can try and help you think of gems if you want, which fusions are you on now?

@Spinna Honestly, there isn't a single gem that I have all fusions for. So anything helps right now. If you want, I could pm you the list of the fusions I don't have done.

So, out of pure boredom I have written up a very creepy and gruesome Bloodstone story that may occur in the roleplay if Maeve ever becomes an obstacle for him. Honestly, I'm surprised I could be that dark. If anyone wants me to post it in the ooc for shits and giggles, let me know.
