☆ Helena ☆

After a little while more of socializing with the other girls, she found herself alone again. And she was alright with that. Her head was feeling better, but she was still tired and it would be a much wiser idea for her to get some sleep in before they left on the mission that evening. Because while she in theory had no problem with traveling at night, she’d not slept well the night before and so she figured that an afternoon nap was the best idea for her.

She slept clothed again and woke up just at the end of supper which she scarfed down quickly before going back to her room to double check that she had packed all her things that she needed and that she’d gotten all of the things that were required of her. When she was certain of that she headed down to meet up with the rest of the students and such that were off to the nox.

She gathered at the wagons that would be leaving for her homeland, sitting on the cold ground a little off from the rest of the group and brushing her hair again before rebraiding it loosely while keeping an eye out for Annabeth or anyone else she might know going.

Colette Filiatraut

Colette hummed as she packed her things. Today would be the day she would be leaving for the Nox missions. She had her hair up in a high side pony tail leaving her bangs out to frame her pale face. She looked over at her new weapon, her beloved rapier, that was sitting innocently on her and Keri's bed in its black shealth and she smiled. She had been training as hard as she could so she join her beloved demons in battle. She tied her small bag and went over to her desk to get her blood candies. She stopped and looked at her mirror at her new outfit. It made her smile a little as she thought about the day she had spent with her best friend Annabeth.

Colette smiled as she grabbed the candies and went back over to her bed. She had a couple hours at most before she had to leave for the front gates and she sat down on the bed. Hyllos came over and nuzzled her making her giggle. Atticus had came over and sat on her feet. She reached and patted his head gently. She felt extremely thankful for Khan for showing that part of his past and it actually helped her learn to control over her negative emotions and it even helped her gain much needed control over the once wild nekomata demon. She sighed nd looked around her room. She knew that it would be a while before she be back here. She picked up her things and took a long last look back in her mirror before leaving her room.

'Well off to meet everyone for the Nox missions' She said walking down the stairs and left the tower she shared with her beloved Keri. She looked arrived at the school gates and spotted Annabeth not far from her.

"Hey Annabeth" She called out waving.

Uicle

Uicle briefly scanned the group in front of him, stopping in brief surprise at only the sight of Mar and Aramir. "Most of you know the situation in Yarosmere. For those of you that don't, I'll give the briefest version I can." He didn't even bother trying to put it nicely. "Yarosmere has undergone a violent and fanatical coup. The old social order, and nearly all of it's nobles, has been violently displaced. It's all under the rule of 'The Prophet of the Sand God'. The Prophet has disposed of the King, executed almost the entirety of the upper class, and rules Yarosmere with an iron grip. The people there are fanatical for him."

"In addition to his brutal rise to power, The Prophet has deemed that Naga are an impurity to be cleansed. He has commanded his armies to eradicate all the Naga in his domain, and has had great success. As far as we know, Mar's tribe is the only one to have escaped. Even then, they were severely depleted and on the verge of annihilation. He doesn't have as much control as it appears, however. Before the diplomat killed himself, screaming about how The Prophet knows all the secrets men try to hide, he revealed that there is a resistance movement in Yarosmere. They call themselves the Shadows of the Kingdom. They launch constant hit and run attacks. Killing soldiers, burning granaries, assassinating mages, so on so forth. They're generally doing their best to be a thorn in the side of the Prophet, and seem to be doing a well enough job. Despite all this, The Prophet is cordial to new diplomacy and relations. That's where you all come in."
Uicle gestured to the students before him.

"Your job is to go into Yarosmere and find out exactly how bad it is there. You're to establish a basis of relations between the College and The Prophet. If you can do so without being executed as spies or traitors, establish contact with these Shadows as well." He steepled his fingers, looking from one student to the next, with a piercing gaze. "Let me make one thing perfectly clear. You will see horrors in Yarosmere. Fanatics mutilating themselves. People being slain for not believing in the Sand God. Nagas tortured and made to go into their Malice mode for pure amusement. Your job is to report, not intervene. Do you understand? No matter what you see, no matter what happens right in front of you, if it is not in the aid or defense of the current government, do not get involved. You do not have diplomatic immunity. You are guests, walking on very thin ice with them, and we will not be able to protect you."

"If any of you have been to the human parts of Yarosmere before, discard all that you know of them. It has changed entirely. Somethings may still be familiar, but for the most part it is an entirely knew country. Act like you're new and unfamiliar with their customs, and you may be given lee way for any transgressions, real or imagined, that you make."
Uicle scanned them one last time, wondering if sending a Naga and a Snow Elf into the hot desert nation that had nearly eradicated said Naga's tribe was a good idea.

"The cart will be ready to take you to Yarosmere in two hours. Grab what you need, and I suggest you pack clothing appropriate for extreme heat, extra water containers, and food. You're going to need it. Good luck." With that, and a wave of his hand, Uicle dismissed them.

"How did I ever let you convince me to do this..." Aramir complained to Myrn, heading out the door. Gods above, but she was going to need help.

Lyn, Lucilia’s office.

Lyn joined the others. Her thin figure fell in after Meirin and Ssarak, her eyes scanned the room currently Lucilia’s office. It looked like the common dwellings of any Herbamancer. There was several lush, exotic plants lining the very walls adding splashes of green color to the dark theme settings. The window was covered over by thin curtains and any shred of light was stalled from flooding in, keeping the surroundings slightly dimmer than the other teachers. It gave it an eerie appeal to her through it held a slight appeal. Lyn’s eyes hadn’t wandered very far when she felt Lucilia’s eyes fix upon her figure. Immediately, the hybrid smiled a reassuring smile before she felt Keri fall in behind her and cause her eyes to look back to see who was there.

When Lucilia’s voice started to detail their mission, Lyn’s hand quickly reached into her pocket and pulled forth a seed. The seed was sparked into life then blossomed into a bright, yellow flower which had four petals and three stamen in the center. The pieces wiggled with each vibration of Lucilia’s voice while it ‘recorded’ the information. It was a special type of plant called a Mimic Flower. It could easily mimic voices and repeat up to half an hour’s worth of a lecture, which gave her an edge when learning her magic compared to those that had a much easier learning streak. Paying close attention, Lyn listened to the lecture as she noted Lucilia indicating each location on the map. First Hysteria, then the Mountains within Djarkel, and finally near the city of Sorrow.

Lyn recalled reading it once before she gained her mage blood. Through she couldn’t recall much about it and considered mentioning it to the others. However she couldn’t recall where exactly she spotted it or what it detailed. Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt a voucher pressed into her hand. Lyn looked down then stared, not fully sure what the thing was for. Most of her stuff had been given to her as it was and so she never handled a voucher before.

Keri Wolf

Keri walked out shut the door behind her after talking to Sam. Uicle’s threat had proven to be real and now she had to go to both Satori and Sam for the nightmares, which was a pain in itself, because they would be busy at the same time her classes ended. Yet they allows made her talk about them while they worked. The vampire hid a small yawn as her train of thoughts slowing ran through her progress so far. She was able to do far more than the basics and her teacher seemed happy about that. Then again being just a soul inside a suit of armor made things like facial reaction hard to mimic. The girl sighed before starting to decide to go to debriefing or not. Yes, Lucilia had mentioned Lyn being there but was she really?

The young woman slowly forced herself inside the room as the woman’s gaze fell on her. Most likely she was wondering why Keri was here or something else. The only reasons she was here was to help protect Lyn as well as try and help the college as much as she could. After all this place had slowly started to become a place she looked forward to come back to. The vampire walked towards Lyn. This was to show the the oldest vampire why the girl was here, not like she would say the other out loud, as the woman kept watching her. It felt rather unsettling. Maybe she saw the ring and disapproved of Colette’s choice in love but didn't want to say anything out loud. Maybe the teacher didn't want the now stable Keri to go because she had heard about the nightmare, which was starting to decrease massively since talking to Satori and Sam.

Her eyes kept on Lyn, hiding the worried look with her normal serious one, as the child looked back. The vampire pointed towards Lucilia, as if telling the kid to pay attention, much like Mar would do when giving a serious talk to Athalus. She paid attention as well while trying to recall if there was anything she knew about these places. Most likely it would be a good idea to grab some of the many small cravings she kept in the same area Colette made the blood candies, her main sword which was sharpened by Val and ready to be picked up, the shield, a bag of candies that Colette had placed off to the side for her for what seemed like every time missions were coming up, and a consider of water due to improvement to her Mageblood.

When they were released the young woman gently ruffled the child’s hair like normal.” Stare at too long and it can disappear kiddo.” she said in a joking manner. Keri took her hand away from Lyn before she could react to it.” Hey. I need you to do something for me. I would like it if you would stay in my sights during the mission. It's not that I don't trust you it's because I don't trust these new vampires we are to be meeting. And if you don't want to all I can as is that you stay near one of the students.” she said in a worried voice. The girl slowly traced the black band ring that had a garnet gem in the center that had black vines that went across the corners. There was also a black choker on her neck where the old wooden wolf used to lie. On it was white roses and lilies that wrapped around the choker.

Summer Flores

Summer listened to the briefing of her mission. She had chosen to continue her training with her bow. She was a learning this weapon when she was a little girl and she was quiet great at it. She would have continued training if it wasn't for the attack and her being stuck on the tower for most of her life. She patted the bow with a smile. She walked away when the briefing. She went back to her dorm and packed some extra food she would need for this trip. She grabbed her water skins and moved down to the bathrooms filling them up knowing she would need tons of water for this mission. She walked over and attached it to her bag. She looked at her ring. It was the ring that she got during her first mission here, Lyn's Hunt. She grabbed it and placed it on her finger. She picked up her bags and began to go to the meeting spot for the Yarosmere.

Mar, within Uicle's office

Mar noticed Uicle pause when his eyes noted her stroll in. Her mind focused on her feet’s pace and monitored their direction, her head raised upright then turned into his direction. She knew why he stared and likely the thoughts pulsing through his mind over her appearance here. He likely wondered why she wanted to be here after everything that happened. Unlike most sane creature, she didn’t focus on survival for herself but her whole race. So Mar needed to know the situation of her race within Yarsomere with both her own experience and what Uicle was about to say. She braced herself for the shock while leaning against the wall, relieving the pressure on her booted feet.

She picked uncomfortably at her tunic’s neck line, borrowed from Athalus and tailored for her figure, with several semi-long ties starting from her underarms and down along her waist to end just above her hips. The bottom draped in triangular shapes, the front was shortened at mid thigh and back just barely touching the knees. It was sleeveless to allow better mobility and stop overheating, her scales able to prevent sunburn from the harsh rays of the Yarsomere desert sun. A belt cinched around her waist to hold her primarily weapon, a white, cleaned arm bone from a mission in place. On the bottom half she had a slightly loose harem pants, a garb native to the region which both provided cover and protection in sandstorms.

Her attention returned to the task at hand when Uicle spoke. " Most of you know the situation in Yarosmere. For those of you that don't, I'll give the briefest version I can."

He didn’t even bother to be gentle about the truth, the news hurting Mar than she expected.

The people there are fanatical for him.

“They call themselves the Shadows of the Kingdom.
Uicle then gestured to them and continued.

"Your job is to go into Yarosmere and find out exactly how bad it is there. You're to establish a basis of relations between the College and The Prophet. If you can do so without being executed as spies or traitors, establish contact with these Shadows as well." The armor teacher turned and seemed to stare down each one of them, a hint of warning in his gravelly voice as he spoke each word.

"If any of you have been to the human parts of Yarosmere before, discard all that you know of them. It has changed entirely. Some things may still be familiar, but for the most part it is an entirely new country. Act like you're new and unfamiliar with their customs, and you may be given leeway for any transgressions, real or imagined, that you make."
Uicle’s words seemed centered on Mar when he pointed out the torturing of Naga, a mention that made her stiffen and glare back. Anger heated her eyes causing Mar’s head to turn away, clearly understanding but not sure she could carry it out. It was hard to imagine them torturing one of her kind and her merely walking by to let it happen. Thankfully children were born in the desert itself, in places where humans almost never travelled to because they often died on the trip. Still, she couldn’t fully promise she would be able to stop her emotional side from getting the better of her.

However, she didn’t reveal this for fear Uicle would prevent her from going on the mission.

"The cart will be ready to take you to Yarosmere in two hours. Grab what you need, and I suggest you pack clothing appropriate for extreme heat, extra water containers, and food. You're going to need it. Good luck." With those last words, Uicle waved them off.

Mar was among the last to exit the room as she caught Aramir’s words complaining to Myrn, both heading out of the door.

"How did I ever let you convince me to do this..."

Yarosmere Mission

Sansar, Yarosmere capital.

It had been several long weeks ride from the College to Yarosmere's capital. Fortunately for all on the mission, the wagon they were put in was both spacious and comfortable. They were designed for the transportation of people, unlike the ones used on earlier missions. Thus, the Yarosmerian team traveled in comfort. Well, relative comfort. The seemingly overnight change from the frigid temperatures of winter to the burning temperatures of the desert caused discomfort, most noticeably in Aramir. The blue snow elf seemed to constantly have a sheen of sweat on her body as the hateful sun bore down on her. She was obviously miserable, but bore it stoically enough, if given to bouts of whining at times.

As they traveled through Yarosmere they saw very few signs of the madness that had overtaken the area. Priests on stands in small villages, preaching about the Sand God. Distant puffs of smoke. Age old skeletons hanging from the trees. Some indication that something wasn't right, but nothing to indicate the reports they had heard. It was only when they reached the walls of Sansar that the reports were confirmed.

The walls were lined with skulls. Mostly human and/or long decayed, but some were clearly non-human and/or fresh. The city gates were hung with corpses. Smoke from various fires could be seen in the distance, and the smell of burnt flesh hung in the air. They passed by a Naga being burned alive, a priest preaching to a large crowd in front of it. The Naga was firmly restrained, layers upon layers of ropes, chains, and weapons tying and impaling it to the stake. The priest was shouting something, his sand brown robes fluttering along with the bandage around his eyes. "Chosen of the prophet." Their wagon drive elaborated, watching. "They blind themselves so to better see the will of the Sand God."

They passed similar horrors along the way, eventually stopping at the palace. A man was waiting for them, grinning in welcome as he washed blood off of his hands. "Yolin. Second in command to the Prophet. Commander of the Deliverers of Penance. Torturers of the Sand God. Be careful." Their driver murmured once more, quickly driving off as they all piled out.

"Welcome, welcome!" Yolin cried, going to shake each of their hands. Aramir barely swallowed her distaste as she took his hand. "The Prophet begs forgivness, but he will be busy most of the day. He bade me to show you the sights of our wonderful city, and keep you occupied with it's delights until he can meet you for dinner later tonight with other guests." He smiled again at them, either oblivious too or ignoring the thinly veiled apathy. "You all must be hungry, and dinner is a long ways off. Come, come! I will lead you to the marketplace, where food is a plenty." Yolin began to stride off, and three armed guards fell behind the College students. Leaving wasn't an option.

"I'm sure you have many questions about the current state of affairs in Yarosemere. After all, that is why you are here! I will answer them as best I can."

Leith Calder

Leith checked his bag for what seemed like the fifth time as he made his way to the carriages. After the briefing, he went to the store and got supplies and his formal wear, which was a long-sleeved light blue shirt with the right sleeve hemmed up to the elbow and a pair of black pants. After making sure he had everything again, Leith looked up and found himself at the carriages. He noticed Ssarak nearby and approached him.

"Ready to be a diplomat?" Leith smiled. "Hopefully this won't turn into a fight for our lives. Not really a fan of that."

Darius Jura

Darius' lip curled at the sights he saw as they made their way towards the walls of Sansar. He had known it since he had heard of what happened to Yarosmere, but a small part had hoped that it was all lies. The Yarosmere that he knew and grew up in was dead or dying. Small motes of air snapped and popped around him as he balled his hands into fists.

Taking in a couple deep breaths Darius calmed himself down, and while he was still furious at the state of his country, he was collected enough to talk and not lash out at anyone. He was curious if the same could be said about the Naga. He watched the woman carefully, ready to react if anything happened.

When they arrived at the palace and were greeted by Yolin, Darius stayed quiet and shook the man's hand, peering at the man through his robes. This man was the second in command to the Prophet, and that meant he might be a conspirator to the whole "Sand God" movement. Darius didn't believe that there was even a Sand God to begin with. It was just a man with a lot of power and good tactics.

His thoughts were broken as three guards formed position behind the students and Yolin invited them to the marketplace. It seemed that the man wouldn't take no for an answer. Yolin allowed them to ask questions on the way, so Darius spoke up, his voice muffled slightly by his robes. "Could you tell us about the Prophet?"

E'nasha Williams and El'kan Rovis
Before departure

"Goodbye, and good luck on your missions!" E’nasha waved as Helena and Annabeth left, and jumped slightly as Baulder put his arm around her. She, couldn’t recall if he’d ever done that before. She laughed slightly as she answered him. "Yeah, this is the first time you two’ve officially met, isn’t it? I’m sure the three of us will be able to have some fun in Yarosmere, when we’re not doing anything related to the mission at least."

"You know Yarosmere isn’t exactly the same now as when we left though, right E’nasha? I mean, the whole purpose of the mission and whatnot… We probably aren’t the most reliable tour guides." He shrugged slightly before continuing. "Sorry Baulder."

Of course E’nasha was quick to interject. "Well, you’re right. Some things are different, but I doubt that means that everything is. It’s very likely that we’ll find more that’s the same as we remember than is different. And if I’m wrong, you get to say I-told-you-so."

"I’m not gonna want to say that, especially if you’re wrong." El’kan spoke quietly, as if it were meant to be a thought rather than said out loud. E’nasha just shook her head. They’d cross that bridge when they got to it, or burn it if they had to. "Speaking of the mission, we should probably go pack up or something now?"

"Uhh, yeah." E’nasha wiggled her way out of the semi-embrace Baulder had had her in and smiled at him, her voice cheery as she said farewell. "We’ll catch up to you later Baulder. Bye!" El’kan waved as he left, following E’nasha.

They went to the briefing and listened intently as the mission was explained. E’nasha wasn’t sure what to think of the blunt description of the situation there; It could definitely be worse than she was hoping, but could it really be as bad as Ucile made it out to be?

"Let me make one thing perfectly clear. You will see horrors in Yarosmere. Fanatics mutilating themselves. People being slain for not believing in the Sand God. Nagas tortured and made to go into their Malice mode for pure amusement. Your job is to report, not intervene. Do you understand? No matter what you see, no matter what happens right in front of you, if it is not in the aid or defense of the current government, do not get involved. You do not have diplomatic immunity. You are guests, walking on very thin ice with them, and we will not be able to protect you."

Ok, maybe it could. She and El’kan shared a look at the mention of acting like outsiders to help avoid conflict. It wouldn’t be very hard for them to pretend, they had lived outside the desert country for a few years now, but they still considered it to be their home.

They left the meeting and were packed within an hour -they knew what they needed to bring, and El’kan came up with an idea to avoid bringing anything that would be unneeded once they were there, like their winter coats. Instead of bringing any of their winter things, they put on every desert-suitable article they had in layers, and as the group got closer to Yarosmere and out of the cold weather they would take off clothing and put it in their packs as extra outfits.

In Sansar, the capital city of Yarosmere

It was a long ride, but comfortable enough once they were free of the cold. The change was more sudden than either of them had thought it would be, but very welcome on E’nasha’s part. The only discomfort she had was the knowledge that she would have to go back to the cold, cold college once the mission was done. If it weren’t so terrifying here, she would be tempted to stay.

Just travelling through the country didn’t show any of the chaos very justly, though it was very unsettling to pass through some of the towns along the way. She hadn’t been able to give Baulder a tour yet like she’d said she would, she and El’kan had agreed that wandering around anywhere wasn’t a very good idea. When they finally reached Sansar, she thought she’d be ready to see.. everything. She didn’t flinch or look away, but gods know she wanted to. The sights, the smells... she was surprised that anyone could bear it, let alone be the cause of such horror. She finally took her attention away when they passed by the burning Naga, focusing on her hands clenched tightly in her lap instead. She couldn’t understand the hatred towards the Nagas, her village had always been on good(ish?) terms with them, they definitely didn’t deserve this.

The words their driver shared with them just before he left them with Yolin solidified a thought in her mind that had been slowly forming since the beginning of their trip. Both her opinion and Ucile’s blunt telling had been wrong, it was worse here than both their views combined. She didn’t let any of her thoughts show however, instead she smiled brightly as she shook Yolin’s hand. He went on to tell them that they wouldn’t be able to meet the prophet until dinnertime, and began to lead the group towards the market. Honestly, E’nasha was glad that they had some more time left before the upcoming encounter. It would be easier to complete their mission if they weren’t put on the spot at all.

Yolin allowed them to ask him questions as they walked, and one member of the group jumped on the opportunity, asking about the prophet himself. "I would also like to know a little more about the prophet before we meet him. What type of man is he?"

Her own question was followed shortly by El’kan’s. "Did you know him before he became the prophet at all? Are you two friends?"

Nox Alignment Ceremony

@Rtron,@Lucius Cypher, @May, & @Luna
~~~***Several Weeks Later***~~~
The winding, twisted roads to Craigville were nothing but wrong indentions in the land. Along the weeks’ journey, the drivers were often found bickering among themselves over the path to take and continually disliked Craig’s insistence over one key route. They obviously annoyed by their destination, their eyes always flickering from one direction to the other even when the wagons stopped for breaks. The supplies lasted them well despite the strict rationing. Among the group were donors for the Vampires, volunteers who agreed to brave the trip to ensure the undead students didn’t starve and attack the others for their needs. Many were protected from becoming infected by the very virus thanks to a specialized herb, which sometimes failed, but the process was difficult for some.
Gradually the scene turned from sunny and crisp winter to bleak, and dark overcast, adding to the grim mood of the current class. The only positive thing about the abrupt change was that the wagon covers were no longer needed to protect the vampiric students. Traveling through the route leading to Craigville, students watched the landscape twist then become corrupted in the worst way. Few villages laid within this path showing how much damage had occurred to the residents. Many had moved on while those brave souls that remained showed the burden from toiling the land, their hands blistered but little gain was made after the labor. It was as if the land wanted to suck the very life blood out of them and leave nothing behind.
Eventually, the wagons grinded to a stop. The drivers moved off their seats and hollered for everyone to dismount, their arm reaching for the pre made packs then passed them off to three students. These students then passed them to each individual and made everyone had the right one. Within each pack was a few days worth of food, spare clothes, weapons, herb kit, and any other belongings unique to their role. Volunteers also had a rune specialized to hang around the neck and designed for sensing Nox creatures. When everyone was set, the drivers hopped back into their wagons and veered their animals about to trot back to the last ranch house for about a few days.
Craig explained the volunteers their task again, reminding Athalus he was to stick with the students, during their travel to the town. “Alright, your task as Volunteers is to keep the area we’re working in clear of monsters. I can only multitask so much and my main focus will be on the students. The weapons and runes should help you to kill the Nox creatures, but never stray from the group.”
He shifted his attention to his group like a shepherd over his flock. “Cragiville is cursed and it’s people, once normal and healthy, are nothing short of ghost of their former selves. Ghouls. They will devour fresh meat when they can get it so always be aware and on alert.”
They just started entering the town’s edge when afternoon crept.
Craig directed his class how to set up for the alignment ceremony. A small setting of strange objects were set in the center of a pentagram circle where the students would sit within and brace for what was to come. At the heart, were Craig would sit, were a bottle of animal blood, herbs, fire petals, and several unlighted black candles waiting for a flame. The volunteers were told to scout a few feet from the circle and prevent any nox creatures from interrupting the ceremony or several lives could be lost.
Colette Filiatraut
, Nox Mission
-Several Weeks Later-
Colette sighed as she looked up at the sky. They had been traveling for several weeks and in her opinion, it was getting on her nerves. Even when she was human, she hated the long travel her family did. While those trips were mostly in silence, this one was not as much. She had never seen or heard as much bickering as she did during this trip. She had been keeping to herself mostly during the trip. It got on her nerves, but she never said anything to them since she did not know where they were going nor did she know what trails to take, but these people should have know what trail to use when they were planning out their route.
Feeling a bit hungry for blood, she took out a blonde candy and put one in her mouth letting it slowly dissolve in her mouth making her sigh. She missed Keri a bunch. Ever since Keri let her bite her neck on their first date, her fnsg have been aching to do it again, but she didn't want to burden Annabeth with it like she did with her first ever mission, so she used the blood candies to sate her need for blood.
She stopped when the wagon did and helped pass the things along to others before getting hers. She made sure the vampires that were on the trip were find and even gave them a blood candy if they were in need of feeding. Pride had filled her chest as she helped these vampire students. She had came so far from who she was when she first came to the college with Lucillia. She never thought she would be the one now helping vampires everywhere with her creation until the night she showed the amulet she had that had pure vampire blood that hadn't turned into dust upon exiting the body. The only person who knew the one ingredient that she was using for the candies to allow vampire to taste actually food was Lucillia. No one else knew the secret, not even her beloved Keri knew.
She listened to what the guy was talking about and prepared her rapier. She looked over to the barely visible town and frowned, sad that this happened to the city and all its good people. She prepared her things and sat in the place she was needed in, making sure her panties weren't showing with her new outfit.
Summer Flores
Yoshemere
Summer sighed as she once again wiped sweat off her forehead. She was sitting next to Mar and was silent as she looked out of where they were going. She never seen the desert let along been in it and she could say this was not her favorite places to be in. She never felt so hot in her life as she was she sat there. She looked over at Mar frowning, wondering how she was holding up.
She looked up at the madness they were passing, tears pricking her spring green eyes as she saw the skeletons hanging off the tree and the priest preaching about something. Her emotions only got worse when they reached the area they were suppose to be and saw everything. Some tears escaped before getting off keeping close to Mar as she followed everyone.
Baulder
Before departure
Baulder was not particularly annoyed by the fact that Annabeth and Helena were leaving after only having been there for such a short time. He really only cared if E'nasha stuck around anyways. But then just like that she and El'kan both left to. Once again Baulder was left by himself at the table, like he had been not too long before. Baulder took his right index finger claw and dug it into the palm of his hand until it drew blood. For a second he thought his blood was actually black but he very quickly remembered and saw that it wasn't. Baulder then ran his hand through his slowly lengthening hair. He had found that letting it grow out was entertaining to say the least. It wasn't even touching his ears yet but it had been odd going from his usual to skin cut to this. The interesting thing he had noticed was that his hair didn't grow over the tips of the hand shaped scar he had. This left two differently length patches of no hair on the top of his forehead. He ran his right hand through his hair and let the small amount of blood that had pooled in his palm act as a bit of a a slicking agent. He then got up and went to find his shovel.
Later
During the meeting Uicle had prepared Baulder ended up being silent, simply watching the suit walk around the room and gesticulate about the mission. The only real words that Baulder got out of most of the briefing were "don't touch things", "don't get involved", and "it's hot". Had Baulder known what Uicle had meant by that last statement he may not have agreed to actually come on the mission. While Baulder had consulted E'nasha briefly before going and gathering his things he couldn't think of any clothes that would help him here other than the lack thereof. He was picking at his white cotton shirt most of the day they were traveling in the carriage. Even his leather trousers were feeling like they were just confining him. Baulder was just glad he hadn't actually put any of his armor on today, as he surely would have taken it off by now.
The ride through the towns had atleast been entertaining for Baulder. He was particularly amused by a skeleton that was in tatters on the ground under a tree where it looked as if it had once belonged in a noose. The skeleton had what looked like it's foot shoved in between it's jaw bone and it's skull. Other than the occasional months old mutilation Baulder had been mostly bored as E'nasha hesitated to bring him too far from the wagon. He was wondering why that was to, it's not like he didn't keep himself armed. Surely there wasn't sand bears or something.....right?
The capital was much more interesting however. The smell of burning flesh and rotting bodies mixed with excrement reminded him of the farm. Baulder was able to keep himself entertained simply looking around at the ridiculous things occurring around him. He found the whipping posts to be of a special treat. Some prisoner or citizen or whatever these people were had their arms wrapped around some post while a man in robes hit them with a whip. Several of the people they passed had the skin flayed from their backs due to the extreme whipping. He was beginning to wonder what exactly Uicle had found so awful about this place. It really was quite funny.
When the carriage stopped and they were greated by another man in robes Baulder listened intently to his stomach. He felt a deep rumble and the words "food" and "market" said by the oddly dressed man. "Yes food! I've been hungry for a bit of time now, that would be wonderful!" Baulder said with enthusiasm.
It had been a long few weeks. It had been nice of course, to have someone other than just her boyfriend to talk to on the trip, but that hadn't made the physicalness of the travel any better. It wasn't that terrible, but she certainly would have enjoyed staying back at school a bit more than the weeks in the wagons on rough trails. They'd not come this way on their way from Port Slaughter to the school, but it did start to feel a little bit more like home now, she supposed.
She'd enjoyed her time getting to know Annabeth, of course. They had lots of time to sit and chat. And they had plenty of time to sit and not chat too. Not that their not chatting was anything less than innocent, and that was perfectly alright with her.And when they'd not been chatting, she'd taken the time they had to read or doodle when things were smooth enough. Which was much easier to once they'd made it further into the country and thus no longer had the need for the cover constantly. Of course her doodles tended to take on the darkness around them and the little monsters and trees she drew grew more and more twisted as they went along.
Finally they made it to their destination, or at least to the last place the drivers were willing to go. She clambered out with the rest of the students, gathered her things up and after double checking that she had everything, headed off with the rest of the group to do her part, green eyes looking around them cautiously.
Diplomacy at Yarosmere
Mar, Sansar within Yarosmere
Mar jerked and tossed with the wagon’s jarring. Her eyes closed as she propped herself against the wood side, stretching out her human legs while enjoying the humidity. Even with the additional clothing, she was enjoying the heat wrapped about her body. She didn't sweat since she was use to the arid air found within Yarsomere.
Inwardly she reflected on the fact she was home and what Ssarak purposed before they had left. She let her mind play the memory over in her head for the hundredth time since their departure.
After the conversation, her mind was left conflicted in so many ways. Namely about the Naga’s future. Ssarak was right that without help, her people would crumble and fade from existence. The more she tried to determine another alternative, the harder it was finding one.
The scenery they passed didn't help.
Mar’s eyes shifted to glimpse the scarce evidence that made the reports valid, the facts just reminding her of her race’s challenges and loss to their population. It was strange to see people were cruel to both each other and those they didn't understand.
Things only got worse when they arrived within Sansar, the capital.
Mar only tensed when they crossed the scene of the Naga burning at the stake. A male, around her brother’s age, was bound in the fashion that was most painful to watch and struggling against the impaling implications and rope as he was burned alive. At least, that’s what it appeared to the cheering crowds. In reality Mar knew the male was gone the moment they started burning him since he likely bled out. Her fingers still dug into the wood as she started to wish the Malice Naga would break loose, then destroy them all. Among the Naga, a thought like that never crossed her mind and clear evidence her association with people was starting to influence her. Mar gradually settled back into her but showed no expression of breaking down publically. She could feel nearly everyone’s eyes dart in her direction causing her to shiver then inhale.
They were expecting her to mourn, hate or worse. About the only emotional response they were right on was the fact she hated the city and wanted every citizen, man to child, to simple burn like that Naga on the stake. She closed her to push away the image seared into her mind, realizing that Ssarak might actually be right in his option and bitterly wishing differently. Hot, salty tears slide down from the sides of her eyes. They glided along her cheeks, dampening them, before dripping off into the dry air.
The wagon came to a stop just within the palace walls causing Mar’s eyes to snap open. She watched a woman hold a bowl, filled with once fresh water, out to a man the driver described with numerous titles. The one that was most fitting was the torturer of the Sand God. She snorted at the role and gritted her teeth tightly, sealing any comment under her lips. Mar was the last one off when the driver immediately took off causing her to stumble for balance. She managed to grip and steady herself against the nearest student, Summer. It was obvious, even with her armor, she was still working on her balance.
Thankfully, Yolin didn’t notice. Or chose not to expression concern over it. His hands rinsed of blood, the woman departed and vanished back into the palace, he reached out shake hands with each student. Mar’s hand was fortunately covered in a leather glove to separate her skin from touching hands she was sure had killed many of her people. Her expression seemed to easily remain blank on the outside unlike her companions. However she found it hard not to want to reach out and sink her fangs into the killer’s throat, then rip it out in one swift movement. Her upper half seemed to subtly twitch in reaction but did nothing more while he talked.
"Welcome, welcome! The Prophet begs forgiveness, but he will be busy most of the day. He bade me to show you the sights of our wonderful city, and keep you occupied with its delights until he can meet you for dinner later tonight with other guests." Mar noted his lacking attention to the key ticks of discomfort, not over eager with his next offer. "You all must be hungry, and dinner is a long ways off. Come, come! I will lead you to the marketplace, where food is a plenty. I'm sure you have many questions about the current state of affairs in Yarosemere. After all, that is why you are here! I will answer them as best I can."
Mar considered straying behind until three large, calculating guards pressed against her back and made it clear it wasn’t an offer but a subtle command. Her eyes turned back to where the carts rushed away and disappeared from sight with a slight longing. Inhaling, she strolled after the others who started to ask questions. Mar felt it was best she didn’t or risk revealing the fact she was one. It would likely cause the situation to go completely sour and put all of them into danger, something she didn’t want to happen within enemy territory.
Lyn, Hysteria within Djarkel
Only night time with semi clouding moonlight and torches casting a light
Lyn hated being this self aware. The first thing she realized was the fact she thought the least about. Wearing her dress in the shop with a few peering eyes was easy, but now the change in her surroundings made her very aware how unwise it might’ve been. Numerous people casually strolled about the glass scenery, the floor reflecting back in a shimmering image of both magic and nature, entertaining themselves in whatever fashion the gala offered. Women were dressed skimpier than herself in attention getting dress, their eyes roamed in a predatory to tear down anyone that managed to get more attention themselves.
Naturally her mind began to pick out flaws in her brilliant choice which she ignored in the beginning, her blush coloring her skin with the thought. It was pretty basic in style but had a rather fae appeal that Lyn couldn’t resist. The charming way she looked had been too hard to resist causing her to purchase the dress much to the seller’s delight.
Her skirt was just above mid-thigh length, designed into actual petals of a rose and had a slight transparentness to them that preventing anything too high from being completely exposed. The material was actually enlarged Herbamancy rose petals fastened by a waist belt where a large flower grew. Living vines grew and entangled about her middle, keeping her outfit together, of an oriental tunic. White flowers lined the slit placed across from her right shoulder to her left hip, their vines decorating through the surface to break the blue and white theme with a splash of green. Upon her feet were small, flowery slippers matching the rest. The tops held the same petal design as her skirt. A final touch had been her hair. She had spent hours braiding it perfectly, both with Meirin and Keri’s aid, fell over her right shoulder and ended at her chest. Around her forehead’s right side, a Lucilia flower that emitted a fragrant aroma that swept around her.
Lyn inhaled, relaxing her mind. She purposely left select holes within her wards and should any psychomancers prob, they would make their presence known. Her hand brushed by her 2 runes, noting each student were given 1-5 based on their ward skills, reminding her if the tension got too difficult than she could easily take a break. Already the hairs on her neck back rose in alert, realizing most the eyes had turned upon the new arriving students and lingered in judgement on their clothing style. It reminded her of how she sized up a raw meat chunk while she fought to keep her tongue from flickering out.
She kept near Keiri, her figure held toward the background like a shy little wallflower. It didn’t help her mind had frozen at what she had originally came to do and forgotten quickly why they were here. The main floor had several red cloth covered tables with appetizers, cuts of raw meat to more sparse well done, red wine in crystal glasses, and other various foods. In addition, flower filled vases scattered throughout the scene to splash color and broke up any possible blandness created by the decor. Now it was time for the students to begin mingling while completing their given task.
Ssarak Dyreackthanose
---
Ssarak walked into the ballroom alongside Meirin. The first and foremost detail on his mind was the fact that he despised the outfit he was wearing. Not only was its appearance outlandish in his mind, but it was terribly uncomfortable. The pants were far too tight, and the shirt made him feel like a jester. He also had some illusory designs on his wings, which he could change at any time and scarcely required effort to maintain. His belt could hide a dagger, but he had instead elected to hide his weapon in plain sight, as it were. He could shift it into any shape he desired, so he shaped it into a somewhat thick bracelet, which did not stand out any more or less than the rest of his outfit. From everything he had seen and been told, his current outfit was perfectly in line with what was expected among Djarkel nobility, but he would be glad once the gala was over. In the meantime, they had a task to perform.
The ballroom itself was actually rather impressive. It had a tall, glass ceiling through which they could clearly see the nighttime sky above. There was a slight cloud cover, though the moon was bright above them. As for the floor, it was reflective enough to essentially be a mirror. It felt strange at first, like walking on a solid, flat lake. He would have much rather have gone swimming than to this “celebration.” Already, Ssarak’s mind was on alert. Psychomancers were reasonably common among Djarkel courts, and whether or not it was “polite” to intrude into another’s mind, he expected they would be doing just that. With Ssarak’s College training and extensive private lessons, he could more than handle his own, but he was worried for the others with him. He had refrained from speaking of his hidden weapon, or any other sensitive topics, with them just in case. Ssarak supposed it would be appropriate to mingle and learn more about the other guests, but he stuck with Meirin for guidance for the moment.
Nox Alignment Ceremony
@Rtron,@Lucius Cypher, @May, & @Luna
Unseen Trouble
A man, willowy and tall, stood at the very heart of Craigville. If not for fact he was alive, most would believe he had been a resident and victim of the curse. His skin pale and deathly, the surface stretched thinner than humanly possible until the bones outlines were easily seen. It gave him a skeletal appearance. Dark, tattered robes draped along his boney figure, giving it some weight to what otherwise didn’t exist. In one clawed hand, the strange shaped lantern swung back and forth with a soft rusty squeak. Not a breathe of life marred his bizarre stillness. A silver blade rested at his hip, ready to slice into the nearest intruder should the residents become restless.
In moments a strange, eerie light penetrated the darkness, illuminating it in a greenish tint. The Nox stirred.
Something’s Coming…
An eerie breeze floated through the town. It rattled the wobbly doors and crumbling shutters, their rotting foundations straining against the movement. Soft moans were muffled by the aged stone of the buildings, the residents stirring while they shuffled within their past. The clouds overhead collided into rolling waves as if a storm started to brew. Thunder rumbled through causing bats to screech in protest then scattered to the air, their leather wings beating the darken skies in retreat. They became a disjointed mist that swarmed the surroundings before they vanished quickly.
The area still seemed rather dead at first until a single being began to shuffle down the lonely main road. It was a woman. Her skin paler than death and face hollowed out, she shambled along the dirt road. Most her hair stuck together in blood clotted clumps while she struggled with her wobbly balance. Her thin, white dress trailed behind her with blood stains covering moth eaten holes. Her eyes were milked over and the pupils impossible to see through the cataract fog. Gradually, another figure appeared. This one a man, his tunic shredded from shoulder to waist across the chest, with a single hatchet gripped tightly in his hand.
In a few short moments, several deathly sick and strange town folk appeared. Their lives swallowed up by the curse upon this land and nothing but their hollowed out husks remained. If allowed to proceed, they would attack anything that got within range. They were slow and sluggish in their attacks, through dispatching them might’ve been another matter altogether....
Her eyes drifted over the crumbling facades of the town, noting that it looked even worse for wear than some of the worst slums from back home. She'd of course heard rumors about here. Who hadn't? But seeing it was something else. This was...indescribable almost.
The man in the center of the town caught her attention and she felt herself tensing already, drawing a blade easily into her hand. The worn handle felt like a comfort to her and her father’s comforting voice filled her thoughts. No words, just the soft rumbling tones of his voice like she remembered from when she was very little and she would lay with her head on his chest and he'd talk to her.
That comfort was enough to stall any panic that might have risen up in her chest. She was still cautiously looking forward, still on alert for an sudden danger, but she wasn't panicked either. And because of that, as she caught the motion of the shambling forms further back, she didn't jump into direct action.
"Up ahead," she said to those who were nearest her so they saw as well and prepared themselves for the slow trodden threat.
Yarosmere
Yolin turned around at the questions of the students, walking comfortably backwards. His eyes lingered briefly on Summer's tears as she stood close to Mar, before returning to gaze at Darius, E'nasha and El'kan. "The Prophet is...a visionary. You are inspired by his very presence, driven by his words. When he speaks, you believe, no, you know that he is speaking the truth. A very intelligent man as well, having single handedly organized the entire rebellion and the following government reforms."
He gestured around him, seeming to indicate the success of the reforms by the buildings around them. Now that they were away from the front gates and the palace itself, the city seemed almost normal, aside from the few signs of battle in a collapsed building here, a door hanging on it's hinges there, and a red stain off in the alley. People were chatting cheerfully as they walked or worked to clear the remaining damage, small children were running around in excitement, and one could hear the swelling chatter of a massive crowd up ahead. The Marketplace. Yolin continued, his eyes shining with devotion.
"I do not know him myself, but I was the first to kneel before him as the voice of the Sand God. I used to be a soldier in the old military. I was cut off from my unit and army by a Naga ambush. There were five of the monsters, all surrounding me. I began to pray to the false God Gaurot, sensing my death ahead of me. Then, he appeared. He drove them away with the burning power of the Sand God and his brutal sword arm. Then, he spoke to me about why he had saved me and my purpose as the first Deliverer. I haven't left his side since."
Aramir looked around them, feeling uneasy. Not just because of the dangerous situation there were in, or the bodies and maniacs around them. There was something wrong with the city they were walking in. Something missing. Aramir fidgeted uncomfortably. It didn't hit her until they were almost into the bazaar. There were no animals in the city. Not a lizard, a bird, a rodent, a wild cat, or even a feral dog. There was nothing. She looked around pensively one last time, before following Yolin into the crowd.
The crowd seemed to know who Yolin was, and respectfully (and more than a touch fearfully) parted before him. "Come friends! I have made our reservations at the shop of the best cook in all of Yarosmere, if not all of Tiien!" As they sat down, soup bowls were placed in front of them. "I took the liberty of ordering something to take the edge off before the main course, which looks like it'll take a few more minutes." Yolin beamed. "Anymore questions?"
Althalus
"Just haaaad to come along on this stupid mission. Couldn't get a normal one, like the Barons. Everyone needs an assassin in Djarkel. Could have quietly made my services known and already had information and contacts from a baron, but nooooo, I had to take this mission. Even Yarosmere would be better. I hate fanatics but I hate mindless monsters more." Althalus complained under his breath, hefting up the crossbow he had brought along. It wasn't like the small one he kept on his thigh. It was a proper crossbow, and he had already loaded it upon the sight of the man in the middle of the city. It was no surprise when the shambling corpses (what was with corpses and his missions these days? This was twice now!) came slowly up the way towards them.
Althalus waited, gauging the threat of all of them. "Craig, I hope you know, I am not drinking that animal blood. Nox alignment necessity or no." He commented casually, pressing the stock of the crossbow firmly into his shoulder and firing at the lead denizen. The bolt whistled through the air, punching the denizen through the chest. The woman jerked backwards, but was otherwise unfazed, continuing to shamble forward.
"Gods damn it." Althalus cursed, loading his crossbow. "Of course they're unable to be killed by normal means. That would make this mission easy." He fired again, this time taking the woman through the forehead. She fell to the ground and laid there, unmoving. "Well, that's simple enough. Stab them in the skull if they get close enough!" He called to his compatriots.
