Shun Baba

“Er...its..for shaking..” he starts to explain as Ryuuko pokes and prods at his hand. He suppresses the urge to explain more and just lets the dragon girl do her exploratory examination. He was not in the mood to fight it really, and he should have known better. The girl barely seemed to understand the concept of clothing, so a handshake was an obviously foreign concept.

Atleast he got a name out of the whole exchange. [color=cc0000]“Ryuuko? Really.” He says, flatly, as the dragon girl continues to prod at the extended appendage. “Kind of on the nose guys...Hoshiko is at least slightly more subtle and thats just off the top of my head.” he thinks, watching as a clawed finger pokes at his palm. “Well Ryuuko, it is a pleasure to meet you.” He says, finally retracting his extended hand. That was enough of that silliness. Now was the time for serious police work...er..dragon baby sitting work really. But none the less, now that introductions were done it was down to the brass tacks.

He begins to open his mouth, about to say something when a hefty swoon wafted in, allowed entrance by the ostentatious fox woman who had opened the door. ”Oh detective Baba you’re so BI-Er..Tall!” He hears Yui stammer from her crumpled position on the floor (currently being woo’d be a stack of traffic reports). Shun elects to forget he heard that, deciding now was probably not the best time (nor him the best choice) to lecture Yui on workplace appropriate relationships. There were other...concerns that had suddenly made themselves known.

It was not that he disliked Mei, in fact she was quite agreeable to have around. She was knowledgeable and affable during any police investigation that required her services. This, however, was not such a case (insofar as he could determine). He didnt repress the sigh that escaped him as the caught the tail end of the Huli Jing smirk before she prostrated herself before the confused dragon girl, proclaiming the honor of meeting such a celestial being and the rudeness of the police in handling her like a crashed plane.

There is a brief moment of pause as he lets Mei finish her speech, extolling the virtures of the boxed chocolate offering she was making. ”...oh good she’s done.” He says, when he decides its safe to talk again. ”Ryuuko, I apologize for her sudden enterance. This is Mei, she’s an informant who works for the police department and she can be somewhat...whimsical at times. I think she means to welcome you to the town.” He says, turning to his foxy companion, continuing to ignore growing swoons from outside.

”Without permission.” He says more quietly, hitting the fox woman with a scolding look. He wasn’t about to run her off. It’d be too much trouble knowing her and he’d have his hands full helping Ryuuko. And given her insistence on greeting their scaly friend, she might be useful to have around if any concerns came up. His cold glare, however, soon turns to the box chocolate.

He discourteously reaches into the box, grabbing a small chocolate, tossing it into his waiting mouth. Well, there goes the diet, but atleast it would give Ryuuko an idea what to do with the offering if she didnt already. Plus, he considered it mild pay back for her intrusion (still attempting to put the swooning out of his mind). ”More pressingly,” He says, mouth filling with familiar sweetness as he talks,

” I’ll slap your fuzzy bottom if this is the ‘succulent treat of Coatl’. Mayan chocolate was basically ground cocoa paste with chillies and hot water and was so bitter european explores declared it more fit for pigs than humans.” He continues to chew. ”Modern chocolate is so processed and different from its routes that if you brought a Mayan or Aztec to life and handed it to them they’d be baffled.” he says swallowing the chocolate. It was good chocolate, he couldnt lie. But he would not abide by misinformation, even if it was in the name of a good first impression.

Given that her repeated attempts at trying to get her actual goal acknowledged were falling on deaf ears, the vampire saw little point in staying around when she could be buying dinner. Or was it breakfast? Even after hundreds of years, the samurai couldn't decide what to call the meal. Made worse by her tendency to eat food at the appropriate time but at the wrong point in her sleep cycle... at least the other way round would be clearer.

Akio, however, had a question about whether someone might have eaten the little girl's cat. Not wanting to be as unhelpful to him as he had been to her, she whispered back, "Perhaps the young from other countries or the older residents here, both human and youkai."

Why you would go and steal someone's pet for it...

Ryuuko

Oh, you were meant to shake things that were offered to you. That would explain why you needed to stick hands so far away; otherwise you might face difficulty actually shaking something noticeably. The detective was being quite mean in her opinion, not giving her a chance to do things properly after explaining the important cultural rite.

Then someone else came dramatically in, offering a box of chocolates (thus introducing her to the appearance to go with the meaning of the word) and being oddly flattering. The detective continued his string of being mean by grabbing the chocolates and eating one before she could take them, but once Ryuuko had the chance...

Face set in a determined expression, the dragon began to shake the box of chocolates like instructed, pausing for a second to ask what a Coatl was.

As the group sprinted up the stairs entirely, they would all see that there wasn't much to see. The onryo had indeed vanished the moment that Makiko had sprinted for it, via making itself invisible or vanishing to another location, or any other sort of trick available to a purely spiritual being. But, indeed, the air was 'thick with corruption' so to speak. The mere presence of something like an onryo could warp its very surroundings in subtle ways. The spiritual corruption inherent in something driven so entirely by vengeance was palpable. The grudge of an onryo was very dangerous to the unprepared.

Even now, Makiko could see a black stain on the ceiling, dripping with black water. The building's owner seemed unlikely to leave something that grotesque in the open, so Makiko doubted that it was anything natural. There were others, one on the wall, further down the hallway. With this oppressive atmosphere, it was no surprise many residents of the apartment had fled.

"We're sticking together," Makiko said, glancing back over her shoulder, "You'd have to be a fool to split up if you're dealing with something like this. As long as we stay together, there's no way an onryo can really be much harm."

It was the case, really. The vengeful spirits were most dangerous when someone was isolated and left to easy influence. That was what gave Makiko so much confidence in this scenario.

"It might take a while," Makiko continued, reaching for an ajar door, "But we'll search every room, together, to fi-"

As she pushed it open, she was immediately greeted with the sight of the onryo.

Only... there was something strange about this scenario.

The girl in the room was unquestionably a spirit, that much Makiko could tell, though her being was in a more physical state at the moment.

That trailing black hair, the pale skin... the appearance of the girl held many of the physical trappings of an onryo. But she was small, and her hair had been cleared out of her eyes.

And yet she was sitting at the end of the room, hugging her legs and glaring at Makiko, rather then anything one might expect of such a vengeful spirit.

"... What are you doing here?" the girl finally asked. Though her voice was soft, her tone was one of irritation. The fact that she actually decided to speak seemed decidedly out of character for something like an onryo. "Go away..."

Makiko stared blankly. What was going on here? Before she could respond, however, the girl's eyes widened as she looked up.

The black stains had converged just above the group. The material of the ceiling warped, as if dozens of twisting arms had spread out beneath it.. and all at once, arms made of black liquid burst from the ceiling to lash out at the group.

At this point, Karu wondered what the fuck was she doing.

Oh, right, looking for a friend! How silly of her! Now she's just being a master at being silly! The only way she could've been that silly is by practicing her silliness over and over again! Karu may already know this, but it's still fun to be silly nonetheless. Now, where were they to--

"Hey, next to nothing's better than having those melons of useless flubber." Ana fired back with words ignited by gunpowder, followed by a curt sideways glance, "And a real lady is ingenuitive enough to flesh out her defining traits, which can be far more entrancing than a pair of sacks some transcendent being haphazardly bestowed upon a pour soul." Gunpowder and a diversified vocabulary that surely didn't fit the voice or the body it belonged to. "In short... how do the Japanese say it... ah, yes!" The hooded maiden snapped her fingers and shot out a pointed finger faster than a bullet, "FLAT. IS. JUSTICE!" The girl didn't even budge when orbs and tails decided to pop out from underneath her kimono. Who knew what else she was carrying down there?

All the while this bellicost exchange of words transpired, the man in search of his wallet almost faded into the darkness of tertiary character-hood, until his almost stock voice lassoed him back to the land of pertinence. Ana shifted her gaze over to the main to regard his existence, only to find him ogling at the bestowels she was deriding not even a moment earlier. "Keep your finger off the trigger, Ana. He'll be shot down in an entirely different fashion given time." She pacified the contraction of his eyebrows and eased up, "I've dealt with much more shadier groups than the Cheka, Mr. Cabarello, but that's some pretty decent trivia you've got in your back pocket." The girl's faced smoothed out into a smile, nearly amiable in form, "That'll score you some brownie points with Lady Luck, which I think you're in dire need of, since I've never heard of somebody clumsy enough to their wallet in such a manner." Red tilted her head when her speech failed to permeate the man in an enraptured gaze. It was hard to discern which of the paired circular objects he was staring at. It was then when something managed to capture his attention did Ana send another array of dialogue at the fox lady. At least this time it wasn't intended to sting, "And if I had to be a cub, I would choose to be a Siberian Husky. Why? Because they're cuddly as fuck."

Ricardo abruptly spoke with such jubilation, Ana almost thought he had found the cure to cancer or an act of equal commendation. Instead, the man had managed to find his wallet, topped with metal grating as a seal of approval. "That they are..." Ana seconded the guy's statement with a quick wave of her petite, primly carved hands. One could never envision these things bearing weapons of discord. Yet still slung over her shoulder was her trusty sniper rifle, and fastened in a holster hidden beneath her skirt her pistol. Don't forget the brass knuckles. "But, a lesson for you, my acquaintance," Her features seamlessly transformed into a wry, but equally youthful smile, "A real lady doesn't bend over or drop to her knees before a man with just a few words as collateral. There is a far heavier price, one a pocket can never fulfill." Anastasia slowly raised her arm at an angle aimed at the grate. Air practically evaded and then followed the ligament on its nonchalant ascent.

There were a few seconds of total silence. But this time was brief. All of a sudden the wallet flew out perfectly from the grated facade. Rather than continuing on its path for a faithful reunion with its owner, the wallet stopped short and put a hold on the culminated events that have lead up 'til now. "But a little bit of tax never hurts." A five-hundred yen coin wiggled its way out of the leather asylum and flew into Ana's other hand. "Here's your man-purse, Mr. Cabarello~." She chirped with a painfully cute Russian accent that disregarded the occurrence entirely. The wallet whizzed into his hand with a fair amount of force behind it, as if it had been shot rather than led on. "Here's some trivia for you. Did you know the metallic composition of a five-hundred yen coin is seventy-two percent copper, twenty percent zinc, and eight percent nickel? It's also the highest valued regularly used coin in the world." Once Ana had finished drolling on she pocketed the coin and shrugged, "So... Who's hungry? I know of a few cheap places to eat."

It was quite the challenge to narrow down who exactly Anastasia Alkaev was. But based upon a recent news broadcast, delusions have been quite common as of recent. But there's always a tax for everything.

Aamuu

Aamuu walked very cautiously. She knew that Onryos weren't something to take lightly. Walking together with Makiko and the group, her talons made a low scratching sound each time she gave a step, her posture was very tense, walking always with her tessen and her tanto in hand.

Makiko opened a door, revealing a girl, in the corner of the room, hugging her legs and looking to Makiko.

Very surprised, Aamuu went near Makiko, with her eyes fixed on the girl.

Even more surprised after hearing the Onryo's voice, she tightened her guard, hearing a tone of irritation on the girl's voice.

"Go away..." the girl spoke again, her eyes widening and looking up.

With those words and the girl's eyes, Aamuu had an idea of what she was about to do. "Be careful she is going to attack!" she yelled, just as she saw the black stains on the ceiling starting to move, warping it and bulging, as a mass of twisting arms bursted out of it, to lash the group.

In the blink of an eye, she jumped back to avoid the arms, just to see the girl who were walking with them barging in, getting in front of the Onryo's attack.
"NO!! QUICKLY GET OUT OF THE-" she yelled, as the arms moved, targeting her.
Without time to think, Aamuu lunged forward with a powerful beating of her wings, grabbing Karu and trying her best to protect the girl, wrapping her wings around her as she flew thorough the room as an arrow. Her tanto moving graciously through the air, making a wicked whooshing sound as it cut the air.

Without knowing what could happen next, she waved her tessen with a fickle of her wrist, creating a wind barrier between her and the onryo's arms as she didn't fully comprehended the onryo's powers and abilities. Preparing for the worse, she tensed her body.

Mei's ears twitched so slightly, her ears keeping track of the Detective's shuffling, even in her bowed position. He couldn't be that cheeky, could he? Then again, this was Shun Baba, and while he wasn't as dim as sheep, he had the actual tact and subtle behaviour of an enraged ram in a museum. Still, Mei endured, she couldn't show her bad side to the Dragon-Sama, could she?

However, her eyes narrowed somewhat as she felt the box relieved from her hands, shooting a piercing glare that could rival that of Shun's, actually managing a feat few could do in all the Imaginary District. Maintain eye contact with Shun Baba. "Oh, really, this humble fox is ashamed, surely it would be good to shove spicy chili into the mouth of her highness who has just met the surface of our planet in a way that most probably, her heavenly self did not intend to. So this humble self has thought of bringing the updated recipe for once." She added as she clasped her hands, in a wide grin, her eyes still locked with the detective. "Naughty detective, Naughty. Wanting to spank the bottom of this poor fox over some trivia. Perhaps you are more akin to your dear mother than it meets the eye?" She chuckled, as she finally noticed the rattling as her ears darted in the direction of the sound.

Why...was..the Dragon-Sama shaking...the...

Uh.

That wasn't right.

The Huli Jinn's guts told something was very off about the whole scene, and daring to stare at the expression of the dragon-Sama, soon found why.

She was entirely. Clueless.

Oh dear. This could be a boon or a ruin waiting to happen. She had to take action so quick, lest the Detective's well meaning bluntness offended the superior being and condemned the District to oblivion.

"Dragon-Sama, pardon the manners of this humble fox, but those are morsels fit to be eaten, not...shaken." The fox swallowed, somewhat hesitant to ask, but steeling herself. "If it is not much asking, may you enlighten this earthen self of how ... long have you been dwelling in this earth after leaving your heavenly abode?"

Shun Baba
Shun shrugged as Mei assaulted him with her overly formal excuse. ”The objection isn’t over the chocolate itself..” he says, noting with some pride the subtle (and admittedly cute) way the fox woman’s ears twitched with mild agitation. ”It was more that you’re being inaccurate for the sake of a good impression and theatrics. A woman of your qualities needing neither.” His tone is flat and even, for as far as he was concerned it wasn't flattery.

His face did turn (only just barely) a shade redder as the fox woman teased him for his bottom smacking comment. ”Hmph…Poor fox my ear.” He says with a hint of stammer, averting his gaze for a moment while he attempts to think of a retort. He considered firing back that the fox woman seemed more amused by the suggested spanking than anything else, so her scolding seemed a bit overshadowed by her lack of offense.

But he stowed it away. Impropriety should be measured out carefully with someone like Mei. Teasing was perhaps tolerated, but Shun wasn’t to sure his career could survive the fox woman if she decided to turn her attentions fully on him. Besides, the rattling of their guest brought a temporary end to the verbal bout.

”Ryuuko, as we’ve been calling her, left her heavenly abode around...” Shun says, checking the folder clasped in his hands quickly. ”About three hours ago when she landed in the I.D. Kennel club before she was taken in. She’s actually been exceptionally cooperative with us, given the circumstances.” He gives an appreciative nod to the dragon girl. He turns his gaze back to Mei, clearing his throat. ”Seeing as she did nothing wrong, she’s not in any sort of trouble. But given her limited understanding of social customs and everyday functions (no offense meant Ryuu-chan), leaving her on her own isnt really an option for the moment. Thus, I was assigned to chaperone until things stabilize for her. “

Sho Baba

Sho could barely hold back a gag as the humid air of the apartment hit his nose. Ugh, the poor landlord of this place had bigger problems than them tearing it up. If he had to make a prediction, the mildew was primed to spring from the walls and set up a lease! (well...maybe that would be good for the landlord, all things considered.)

He posted up behind Makkiko as she began to lead the search through the apartment. As the girl flung open the first door, Sho was mildly surprised to see the hunched ghostly offender they were looking for sat comfortably on the other end of the room. He had just enough time to think this job was going to be really easy (the dull thud of the ghost speaking registering somewhere in the back of his brain), before black ghostly hands slammed into him, throwing him to the floor with the familiar crunch of bone greeting his ears as he came to a stop.

(Any conflict with what I've done with the post, do share if need be.)

All she could bare to muster as a decent expression wasn't even anything close to the word; a simple cheeky grin. One that made her look as if she was about to laugh out loud again. But she didn't speak yet, rather she sent the black & blue ball towards the other group that was currently trying to find the onryo in the apartment complex. And if speed had a term, then that would possibly be one. The two entities in the orb simply melded together into a smaller ball of fire as if, all to quickly burst the airwaves slightly as it dashed with haste towards the group. The entity itself had no other reason to be sent there unless Makiko would somehow deem it useful, or if she'd even have a chance to notice it in her situation. "Better safe than sorry, as they say." A mere mutter as she spoke only lightly, more or less to herself. The antics of Ricardo in search of his wallet barely interested her in all honesty, but she wasn't heartless either. And then there was Ana of course.

A mildly cold response was the only thing to escape her lips this time against Ana. "If that term really had a significant meaning, I would be addressing it more seriously. But alas, it is but a needless term for those whom wish to prove themselves in a quarrel of verbal misuse. A poor case of personal values. One views it as an exemplary showcase of oneself, a thing they must uphold in front of others. While the other views it as a superfluous idealism serving only to fuel their self-absorbed thoughts and the opinions of others." She offers a slight curtsey in return before continuing. "While I admit that something in your words did uphold a valuable thought, most of it was simply clutter."

Her ears kept twitching from the slight noises in the distance. While they were not otherwise meaningful nor clear, they served to indicate her of the actions going on in the old apartments. Though perhaps her ears were slightly too noticeable in their acts too, as the movement was quite vivid. However she did withdraw her tails back to where they came from under the kimono, right as Ana seems to grab Ricardo's wallet. Hearing the offer for food was somewhat enticing, but she had other things in mind; "I'm afraid that I will humbly decline from the offer you present. I do not seem to have an appetite as of yet." Her attitude and tone this time showed sincerity, instead of the old cold tone. "As much as I am enticed however, I feel a slight need to watch over the little cubs past the block. Albeit as much as I believe in the skill and rationality of Aoyama, she is still young." The vixen turned around slightly as she began walking slowly in the direction of the onryo group. Not fast as she would normally do in her own manner, but slow and savoring as if she wanted someone to follow her. Her slithery orb must've arrived already somewhere close enough to spot however, as it had quite a bit of time to move.

In all honesty though, Setsura wasn't in any clear way sure if she had gotten attached to the folks at the organization or was it simply something she owed Makiko for. But in the end it didn't matter, as she would go there anyway.

Seth sighed and looked up at the sky for a second trying to think of a suggestion that could help the group, his idea that the cat was taken away by someone with a grudge was now out of the window much like the missing cat leaving him close to clueless on ideas. Normally in detective books he head read it was always someone who had a grudge against the victim in someway.

The boy was pulled out of his thoughts and back into the situation by Aoi's volunteering to try and help and stepped out of her way to allow her to get through more easily to the other girl. He smiled a bit at her twitching ears as they distracted and possibly calmed down the client due to their cat like appearance to some which was something he had failed to do by putting the girl on the spot with his questions.

Listening in to Aoi's discovery and the clients remembering of the window being locked Seth thought once more though this time out loud. "Maybe the cat really does have thumbs." Was what came out of the boys mouth before he quickly realised his mistake scrambling through his head to add something a bit more solid to the pool of suggestions.

"I mean if someone had to unlock it from the inside couldn't one of your family members have opened the window to let it the cat out for a stroll?" He asked the client trying to add in a bit more of a friendly tone then how his questions to her were earlier.

Ricardo Caballero

Ricardo stood there, a blank stare at the little girl's teasing. He had to endure it. Recovering his wallet was paramount, even if it meant jumping through all of the hoops a 17 year old might give. Which surprisingly, weren't that many. For some reason, both the fox and the girl were dead locked in a conversation about breasts?

It didn't quite fit with the fox to actually go down to that level. Or maybe it did. Foxes weren't above petty stuff, as far as he had read.

But what wasn't ready for was for the casual display of some sort of magic the little girl had. Ricardo resisted dropping his jaw at the spectacle, knowing full he'd be teased a lot for it. Hell, if the cute Russian accent exaggeration was of any indication, that girl loved to play around with people's expectations, words and the such. Feisty type... Which wasn't surprising given the fact she had aimed a gun at his face in a blatant sociopathic display to just get some humourous comment in.

"Uh, well. Just...call me Rickie. It's nice to know new things I guess." Ricardo just nodded, upon recovering the wallet, not deciding to actually bite in the rest of the comments. He breathed in relief. Despited the odd companionship, things eventually were turning out okay. "Well, you can always join us later, Setsura-san. I owe you both for the recovery of my wallet." He added as he placed it back in its rightful pocket, smiling slightly.

Well, foxes probably had more things to do in their spiritual lives. And he was not keen on asking what kind of ruckus was going down. It wasn't his job anyway.

He didn't have any. It was an extended vacation.

"Well, that means more for us, Ana." Rickie smiled. Sociopathic as she was, she was the first truly helpful person in a while. He extended his hand and gave the kid a friendly pat on the head."Five hundred is too cheap for a good deed, kid. Let me try and see if I can find some Borsch in this place for you. I mean, if little girls can fling weapons and have control over metals, surely there is a Russian restaurant around." He added as he begun to walk away.

"And for your information, I don't find using swearing and toting guns ladylike in the slightlest." He let a small jape in, feeling somewhat more confident. "Still, that was something. Specially that trick." He thought hard, as he extended his hand towards the grate, concentrating his mana to try and emulate the desire effect.

Only for it not to happen. Duh.

"That's something neat you have. I believe a lot of people around do have something like that. But moving that kind of stuff without waving your hand and saying something like 'In the name of cast steel i order you to move!' " Rickie added, while flailing his hand comically, just for nothing to happen. "Yeah, it's go--"

And it was just then, that by mere accident, Rickie had managed to create an spontaneous spell. The grate rattled ominously, as it went directly for the novice mimic mage's face. "--OH SHI!". Fortunately for Rickie, he had enough time to cover his visage from the impeding projectile.

Too bad it hit him square a meter downwards his face, making him squeak like a rubber toy. To his credit, he didn't fall to his knees like many men when submitted to such a low blow, but his face was a picture of barely contained pain.

"...let's go get that food." He winced.

Mei

Mei's ears flicked in response to the sheep demon's voice, perking up in Shun's direction, followed by a slightly narrowed gaze. Really, not even a polite cough to actually act as the Dragon-Sama's steward? They had entrusted a social newborn to a social inept. Mei would have laughed the situation and would have taken it as easygoing life circumstances, if not for the fact that the naive dragon-woman had the innocence of a child and the firepower of a nuclear bomb.

"...entrusted to you. I see." Mei repeated thoughtfully. "Such a wise choice, indeed. I wonder if they will recruit your brother in the bomb defusal squad after this." She said with no small hint of sarcasm. The foxwoman breathed deep.

Well, no use in complaining if I don't do something. The old fox steeled herself, as she gently caught the rattling of the chocolate box from the dragon-sama.

"Lady Ryuuko, this...is food. You take them out of their shell like this, since they are wrapped to not go spoiled, and eat them like this." She added, while showing a graphical description on how to proceed. And then she eyed Shun.

"I think, to be honest, Shun, that we should take the dragon-sama to the shrine. A place of the gods, for a goddess. Plus it'd be more homely and less noisy than in here." Mei added.

"And there's always free tea." She smirked.

Shun rolls his eyes as Mei unleashes her torrent of sarcasm. "Yes yes. And you shouldnt sell him short. I'm sure Sho could survive jumping on a grenade, provided you could convince him to do so. At anyrate, I'll agree to go to the shrine, its as good a place as any to start. And I do like free tea and quiet." he says, ignoring yet another swoon from the other room.

He sets the folder down, gently loosening his tie. Well, wasnt like either of the young women expected him to look the part of the sauve detective. "Of course, to warn you, I was given no budget to pay your usual consultation fees. Your helps more than welcome, but as it stands you should know you'll be working pro bono."

Ryuuko stood around waiting. And listening. It readily became apparent that the general gist of the conversation was far too subtle for her to understand and, one by one, the chocolates were devoured as the other two continued to go around technicalities. Unfortunately, the tall dragon was taking their ignoring her as a signal to reciprocate and go to the shrine.

Immediately leading to her first interaction with a closed door. Not having been paying much attention when lead inside in the first place, she tilted her head, looked at the handle and... pulled.

Needless to say, the door was open, regardless of what the hinges might have had to say about it.
