@Anyone who wants

She was still drunk, somehow. Or at least Skyra felt that way. For now, she had no recollection of how she ended up in her bed, but she had one pressure right now. She needed to go to the bathroom. Not for any bladder relief or anything, no that might happen later...

Skyra stormed out of her bed, out of the room and headed straight for the women's bathroom and from there, right into a stall, where she proceeded to empty her bowels into the bowl.
Already feeling better she flushed the toilet and went to the sink to clean herself up.
While splashing the cold water from the faucet into her face, she glanced at her image in the mirror.
God, she looked terrible right now. A long, drawn out sigh escaped her lips. There she was, just dressed in comfortable shorts and a t-shirt, nothing more, leaning onto the sink staring at her own face, while said face was dripping with water, which also dripped down from her bangs.

She remembered that, last night, she had read a notice from the school about parent's day on Monday. Even better. That meant annoying questions from everybody about her personal family history and where her parents of siblings were.
"That won't improve my mood at all..."
She banged her head into the hard porcelain of the sink, but revelled in the soothing pain it created.

"Me?"

Two wide, bright green eyes blinked in confusion. Lauren seemed to shrink up slightly as some of the hot air went out of her momentarily.

"I haven't been to any bars in Vale since I was fourteen..."

She swelled to her full glory once again.

"Ooh, this time I'm gonna be legal!" she squealed excitedly. "Used to be I'd have to execute this whole convoluted scheme at the line to get into a club. We would get one older girl inside all normal-like, and then I would stand on another one's shoulders, and since none of us owned a trench coat we would distract the bouncers with how weird it was to see two tweens not even trying to hide what they were up to. Then, when he was at peak distraction, I would jump over his shoulders and--"

The excitable retelling of her gameplan in the days of yore continued all the way through one airship ride and two different taxis, and for someone with no idea of where any of her favored targets were, she certainly seemed able to recall - or embellish - every detail of her schemes in picture perfect detail. Finally, their second taxi let them out on a corner in Uptown Vale. The cabbie hadn't let them off in front of a club, but maybe he didn't know where to find one either.

Or maybe he'd gotten tired of her chattering.

"--done getting turnt for the night, the older girl would pretend to have caught me and would carry my ass out of the club for the bouncer! So they would get on VIP lists and we could keep the scam rolling!" Lauren finished exuberantly, not even sparing a glance at the no-doubt catatonic Ben. Her face fell slightly - though not at any indication that her bestest friend and team leader may not have been paying utmost attention.

"That trick doesn't work anywhere else but Vale..." she bemoaned, kicking at the sidewalk with one expensive (stolen?) boot. "In Vacuo or Atlas, they just catch your punk ass in mid-leap and body toss you to the back of the line. So the last time I left Vale, I had to hang up the mantle of Bouncer Bouncer and just be Lauren Negasi again."

She caught her first breath in twenty-five minutes.

"So!" She turned to Ben with a wide, charming grin. "What about you, Cap? Know any good clubs?"

A STICKY SITUATION

The webbing gave way to the molten liquid that cascaded down into the darkness. Thousands of infantile broodlings died, and the more matures either shared their fate or barely escaped. But not the queen. The queen, despite her size, was too quick and too cunning to be caught by such an obvious attack. When the webbing gave away, there was nothing underneath it but an empty void. Team Canvas would see Taidan's flames go further into the abyss until it was swallowed up by the darkness, and with it, many of the broodlings. But what of the Ariadne they were hunting? They would have to go back into the bowels to investigate. Even for faunas with night vision or humans with an inexplicably good memory and eyes, the Ariadne was nowhere to be seen. More immediately, there were also large broodlings still climbing towards Taidan, a few who were already on the surface ready to catch him. When he flew out of the abyss, they fired webbing above him, careful to avoid his lava stream.

Shuai Taidan - Sticky Situation

napalm
/ˈneɪpɑːm/
noun
1. a highly flammable sticky jelly used in incendiary bombs and flame-throwers, consisting of petrol thickened with special soaps.
verb
1. attack with bombs containing napalm.

What is meant by the term sovereignty? If you were to ask the average guy on the street what the word meant, you'd probably get some blank faces because most people don't run into that term a lot in their day-to-day lives. Most people, you see, don't deal with jurisprudence or political theory, nor do they consume fucktons of dictionaries each night. So really, doing such a thing is pointless in the first place, and a waste of the time you could've used to do something more meaningful, like write your resumé (or curriculum vitae, whatever) so you can finally find a fucking job.

The average person knows jackshit, after all. If you wanted to know what sovereignty meant, you'd have cracked open a book or webpage.

Indeed, according to a certain source, sovereignty is the "legitimate or widely recognised ability to exercise effective control of a territory within recognised borders", which pretty much sums up the entire shebang pretty well. Stuff like this, you see, needs a pretty easy summary, because how else could it be understood by everyone? The Westphalian model of states, after all, runs on this principle. You got the power, you got the mojo to tell people what to do in the country. There's probably stuff involving "monopoly of force" and "utility of violence" and yadda yadda involved too, but it really boils down to the fact that you have the power.

Power.

Bam. Everyone loves the thing.

L'état, c'est moi.

The Emperor's word is law.

Anyway, so now you know what sovereignty means. Which brings us to the next part of this segment. How the fuck does sovereignty relate to Shuai Taidan, the prettiest twenty-one year old at Beacon Academy (and also his two fellow handsome fellows and female sidekick, but those aren't as important to the entire scheme of things because they aren't the ones flying in the air), and his current predicament? After all, how could a digression on the ability of a governing body to do their own thing without anyone else interfering have any connection to escaping a hole full of spiders and avoiding their webs?

Glad you asked.

Let's talk about a metaphor.

Have you watched Dragon Ball Z? Of course you have (or at least, heard of it), because you, the reader, are likely to be some fellow using an anime character as a faceclaim for your character in an RPG based on a show created by a gigantic weeb. Sovereignty, you see, is a lot like a Spirit Bomb.

Still following?

The legitimacy of one's sovereignty can derive from many things. For monarchies, it was because God said this bugger and his heirs were to be the top dog in this business (see: divine right of kings, mandate of heaven), while for say, republics, it's because the people have recognised the power of the top guys as the ones they want in charge. It's the latter then, that's most similar to the Spirit Bomb.

When Goku asks for the people of Earth to lend him their energies, their decision to give power is essentially an acknowledgement of his superiority over them for that instance. They are choosing to put their faith in him to save the world, and with the help of Mr. Hercule Satan, the legitima-

In the skies, Shuai Taidan is king.

A king without a crown, he may be, but few can dispute the fact that flying comes naturally to KNVS' prettyboy extraordinaire. There are few who can match his prowess in the ether, and even fewer who can soar so high with so little fear. The endless azure is his home, his domain, and watching him dance gracefully with the wind, ducking and weaving past the webbed projectiles that sought to strike him and his accomplices down, it is truly difficult to claim any otherwise.

He is sovereign over all.

Taidan's rockets flare, and the huntsman ascends. The vault of heaven in its entirety is his for the taking. The spiders that skitter and crawl along the forest floor can try their best. They could shoot and shoot and shoot, but for such lowly surface lifeforms, the skies were not open to them. The creatures of the earth have always sought to fly, and these spiders were no different. They were like him once, before he first grasped the wind for himself.

Before he became king.

The remainder of KNVS are held safely within his six ethereal arms. Santouliubi is the expression of his soul, the imposition of his own reality onto the cruelty of Remnant. It's a semblance of love, of a boy who wholeheartedly embraced all that life had to offer. The same way he's embraced all his teammates, his friends. Because he's their support, the guy who'll help make it easier for them to fight in their own ways.

Is the duty of a king to their subjects, or the subjects to the king?

For Taidan, none of that matters. Reciprocity does.

The others help him, so he helps them.

Chongli glints in the sunlight. To the poetic, it is akin to a symbol of Taidan's authority over the skies, a representation of sovereignty and kingly power. A divine instrument to cast judgement upon the unworthy monsters that awaited below. Here in the firmament, the pretty boy makes his decision.

Behind the gas mask, Shuai Taidan breathes.

Napalm, hot and sticky, erupts from his spear. It rains down upon the forest, upon the spiders, upon the entrances to their nests. His decision has been made. Ariadne's fate, as a monster that threatens his people, the humanity he so loves, is the death sentence. He will scourge the world clear of its presence. He doesn't want to let any more innocents get hurt. A duty of a king, after all, is to protect his citizens.

Except Shuai Taidan doesn't see himself as a king.

The fish is not the king of the seas. Taidan is not the king of the skies. He is simply its, and it simply his.

A king is one who can achieve true greatness. He cannot.

He lacks the power to spread napalm across the entire forest. He is but one man, no matter how strongly he embraces the skies.

Except he doesn't need to.

One tree is enough. One tree is set ablaze. Another follows. And then another, and another, and another.

Whipped up by the wind, the firestorm spreads. The forest has become a sacrifice, a tributary offering to the gods to ensure the annihilation of the hostile monsters that continue to threaten the land. The forest floor will no longer be safe for them, where the heat increasingly grows and the toxic smoke intensifies. Their nests will be filled with the monoxide and dripping napalm. Ariadne's children will die by the hundreds. The thousands.

And in the end, Taidan too will see to Ariadne's fate.

Why does he do this? Why is he so willing?

He takes no pleasure in their deaths. They seek the complete destruction of humanity. To hurt more and more and more innocents.

It's been going on for far too long.

The Marshal of the Central Altar takes action.

So the world gets a little less Grimm.

"Thanks. I'll check them out tomorrow." I said, despite knowing that she'd probably happily tell me that she didn't care what I did with the information or when I did it. Hell, she probably wasn't even too worried about whether or not I'd follow through at all, even if I was taking an interest that was more than just idle chit-chat.

The waves were still waves. Despite living most of my life closer to a mountain range than a beach, I could only stay excited about the exact same thing for so long. I looked up.

The city hadn't gotten dimmer. The skies were still mostly empty. Nothing new there, either.

Well, I supposed the waves at least had the regularity of the sound going for them. Even if they were nothing much to look at on a calm night like this, that was still nice.

"R&B?" I asked, looking back over to her in the end. Her eyes met mine immediately, and had more than likely never left me the whole time.

I reminded myself never to get into a staring contest with her.

Not that I expected she'd humor me if I had the idea in the first place...

Beryl Harken

Luke's assumption of Beryl's situation had been spot on. She had frozen midstep as soon as she had seen the giant pool on the cruise ship. The next minute had been a series of guilty and conflicted glances between the still walking Luke and the enclosed body of water. She did not want to just leave her friend alone but...but.

SWIMMING

With one last glance at Luke's back Beryl tossed her mp3 player and scroll onto a nearby chair and took off running for the pool, a massive smile on her face. She lept as soon as she hit the edge, a graceful dive that would send her slicing into the water like a knife. Or it would have until she glimpsed something through the large lounge window

Was that a strange man talking to Bianc-

Splat

The graceful dive into something more reminiscent of a bellyflop. For a second the still fully clothed otter Faunus floated slightly under the surface of the water. Then she shifted, turning to a more normal upright position that left her eyes just above the surface of the water. And staring directly at the stranger talking to her friend.

Cian breathed heavily as she hefted Byakko once more. After taking some days as a breather jumped right into training pushing herself to the limits. Her eyes had large bags under eyes showing her lack of sleep she was not going to allow herself to be useless again even if her body broke she would get past it. Holding the rifle mode up once more so the blade was pointing forward she dashed forward starting her intricate dance once more. She was set on learning this if anything despite having a bladed form she knew next to nothing on how to properly use it effectively. With some coercing of her "guardian" she was able to get a basic idea on how to use it in close range. Due to size and weight it made quick strikes near impossible so she need to learn how to use its weight to her advantage. Repeating this in her head she swung it around left, right all the while moving around practically dancing out of the way of invisible enemies. Though in mid way she collapsed to her knees her weapon slipping form her hands as she coughed. It was taking a toll on her body but she would not let up she needed to get better.

Sepia Russet - K_SS Dorm

Sepia was fairly certain that her teammates were up and about, as she could hear movement from across the room. Regardless, the late-sleeper wiggled further under the blankets until everything but the top of her head was covered, her flicking ears the only thing betraying that she was awake.

Last night had been rough. After finally getting back from having pizza, she'd been at the infirmary until fairly late into the night. The staff had been put out with her, to say the least, and it seemed like they spent more time chastising her for not coming sooner than it had taken to remove the bullet. "They were nice in the end, though. They let me come back to the dorm instead of making me stay there." She thought optimistically. Admittedly, though, it had taken a lot of coaxing, complete with puppy-eyes and everything. What may have also helped was the fact that the wound wasn't serious, though it could have gotten that way easily. Yawning, she put the thought out of her head and finally accepted that she wasn't getting any more sleep. She scooched up into a sitting position, becoming very thankful for an all-female team suddenly. It seemed that the infirmary had tired her out enough that she'd fallen asleep in just her bra and underwear.

As she finally got out of bed entirely and started looking for something to wear on her way to take a shower, the dog faunus finally noticed the absence of a particular cat. "Hey, Krys, did Skyra take off somewhere?"

Diamond - Food delivery

Checking the time as she walked out of the café, Diamond tried to plan her day. She promised the guys lunch and now she booked an extracurricular at six in the afternoon. That took care of the afternoon, which left her with the entire morning full of nothing to do. Sure, there was homework to be done, but what needed to be handed over on Monday she could manage tomorrow, and the rest through the week.

She briefly entertained the thought of doing absolutely nothing and spending the day in bed, but then an idea popped into her head. Looking over the messages again Diamond made a shopping list and set off to the store. It would be easy to just have the food ordered somewhere, but she was feeling generous. As she walked she texted an old friend if she could borrow his kitchen.

Showing up at McGuinness’ half an hour later and weighted with grocery bags, she gave Desmond her greetings. “Cooking for an army, Diamond?” the innkeep snickered.

“An army of cripples perhaps. I can’t very well leave them on hospital food though, can I? The place free?” Diamond asked.

“It is, there’s only dullness before lunchtime in this business. Help yourself, but don’t leave a mess!”

Infirmary

It took her the better part of the time she had left until lunch, but Diamond found cooking strangely relaxing. It was of course a complete torture not to eat most of what she made, but alas if she shown up empty handed the rest of her team would probably bite her head off - maybe literally, depending on just how hungry they were.

Getting the food past the head nurse turned out to be less troubling than she thought it would - she simply asked and was given a green light - after all she did make sure what she brought was a balanced diet. Well, maybe not the cookies, but she wouldn’t hand those over before Emerald ate something worthwhile.

The smell of the food arrived shortly before she did. Knocking on the doorframe she raised the bag: “Somebody ordered food?”

Oswald Connoly- Infirmary

So, the man Sapphire's team had brought into custody had already managed an escape. That....was not a good thing. The timing was perfect. They'd lost their test subject, and it seemed this scientist, Pops, was somehow involved as well. Spring the scientist from jail, take back the kid, then launch an attack to draw attention away from it. The timing was just too perfect.

Once is happenstance.

Twice is coincidence.

The third time, it's enemy action. Something was very, very wrong here. And now it was obvious to Oswald.

"That...is bad. I don't mean 'stubbed toe' bad. I mean 'shot by an anti-air turret' bad." His example was oddly specific, but he was hoping Sapphire wouldn't be put off by that. She seemed to take a moment to think on her next words before asking her a question.

About one of her own teammates.

About what he, specifically, thought of said teammate.

Gren. The big, green hulking motherfucker with the monstrous weapon. Somehow, Marcus had defeated him during the first day of duels, but since his old team leader was gone now, it hardly mattered. What did Oswald think of him? Did Oswald think of him?

He was compelled to answer in the negative. "I don't know enough about the guy to say anything one way or the other. If it was Shiro, I could at least say a few words, but Gren's essentially an unknown to me. He offered us all food on that first day, but other than that I wouldn't call us any more than distant acquaintances. My first impression is that he tries...a bit too hard to be friendly to everybody around him, but that might just be my personal tendencies towards isolation talking."

Sighing, Oswald shook his head slowly. "This is a lot to think about. I still don't even know exactly what happened on my mission. After we split up, I didn't see Diamond or Emerald until I woke up here..." Although his pride was wounded at having been so brutally beaten, Oswald was more concerned about what that thing he'd fought was. It might have been a Huntress at some point, but during the fight it seemed to change. Become more evil, more soulless.

More like a Grimm. The thought was niggling at the back of his mind. He had to know.

Cobalt Chideta-Infirmary

Cobalt had been doing a lot of reading for the past day. All his homework had been completed first, that had taken about an hour, then he continued his exhaustive research on what that Grimm had been. After a few hours of dead ends, he had moved on to reading up on anything to do with Grimm psychology, then moving on to Hunter psychology. Cobalt had read so much that he had fallen asleep with his Scroll in his hands, completely unaware of the world around him. Something that Oswald would be glad to know most likely.

The morning arrived and Cobalt awoke around 7 to the smell of disinfectant and various other hospital smells. He wrinkled his nose in disgust and waited for someone to come in to offer him breakfast. He took one bite before he pushed it to the side and decided to wait until Diamond brought some food, tiding himself over with water instead.

It was around lunchtime that Diamond came knocking with a bag of food and a heavenly smell around her. Cobalt had to actively hold himself from jumping out of the hospital bed to get to the food as soon as possible. He blinked as he noticed he was already leaning out of the bed slightly. "Have I told you how you're my favorite teammate?" Cobalt remarked as his stomach rumbled in anticipation.

Kuhaku Shiro - Team Swansong Dormitory

'Why?' thought a sleepy Shiro.
'Why do we have to do things like eat and use the restroom?' Shiro complained, his stomach rumbling angrily at him as he tightened the blankets around him, trying to shut out the sound.
'Just let me sleep!'
Shiro stuffed his face into his pillow and growled.
"Agh!"

Bundled up in his little 'tiger-nest/cocoon' of sheets and blankets, Shiro's alarm blared loudly at him. Grumbling irritably, he stirred within the cocoon of cloth until his own white ears poked out of the bundle. Bad mistake. He hadn't meant to but by unshielding his ears from the digital alarm clock app on his Scroll, that just made the noises louder. Poking his head out from the sheets, he glared at his Scroll and went to bat at his Scroll to shut it off. Having enough of the sound and feeling extra irritable this morning.

"Alright, I get it! Shut u-!"
This was his second mistake.
A swing and a miss.
"Oop! OH SHI-!"
Tangled up in his sheets, Shiro couldn't stop himself from rolling over the side of his top bunk bed.
The dramatic weight shift and gravity just working against the poor tired tiger-boy this morning.
Sheets and blankets wrapping around his face, he couldn't see where he was going to orient himself.
"This is it. This is how I'm going to die." thought Shiro mid-fall.

Thud!

Sheets and blankets sliding off of his body, Shiro found himself on all fours and in good health.
Blinking, he carefully looked around himself to see if anyone else had saw. But, thankfully, he was alone in their room. The others probably already having started their days early.
Slowly standing up, he looked at the pile of sheets on the ground and scratched at his head.
"Huh. I guess...I really do always land on my feet."
Shrugging, a pillow slipped off the side of his bunk and boofed against his face.
He grumbled.

Beacon Cafeteria

After having gone through his morning routine, Shiro found himself seated by himself with the usual big heaping plate of food in front of him for breakfast. Bleary-eyed and hair somewhat a disheveled mess, Shiro yawned as she blankly stared at his meal. Rubbing his eyes, Shiro slipped out his Scroll and opened up this 3D Holographic design app he found installed on it. More than likely something Gren had put on there prior to his transfer of ownership. The Boar faunas probably used it to come up with new gadgets and gizmos for equipment and weapons. But, for Shiro, it was just the perfect thing he needed to conceptualize future upgrades and redesigns of his own weapons. Creating gears and contraptions with taps and flicks of his fingers, he could even pull up designs he found on the internet and see how they functioned in real time to give him a better understanding of how he could either make his own or improve upon what already existed.

Lazily eating and playing with his Scroll as he distracted himself. Today's subject being how to he could increase the efficiency and versatility of his sword and shield. He was thinking an internal box magazine stored within his shield. Perhaps even with an automatic loader/feeder like he knew some firearms used. He already had a basic idea of how he would forge and machine the parts he needed, the only issues he had were what everyone usually had. Time, and money. He didn't quite have the necessary 'skrill' to get the high-quality metal billets he wanted, so unless he was willing to wait longer to upgrade. He would have to save up his Lien. He didn't like the idea of waiting nor did he like the idea of compromising on 'lesser' metal types to machine his parts with. He had expensive tastes as well, desiring the geisteel/siderite alloy billets. It was all he ever used and worked with, and he damn near refused to work with anything less for his own equipment.

Muttering and mumbling to himself between bites and swallows of food, Shiro browsed other patented designs and humored himself by shopping around for other 'lesser' raw metals. Scoffing when he saw how cheaply he could get some of them in bulk and skimming across articles defending the lesser materials and how they could be just as good as the higher quality stuff.

"Tch. Amateurs."
Shiro rolled his eyes.
"Ohh-ho! Best bang for your buck! Pfft. Yeah, right."

Krysthane watched as Skyra headed straight for the bathroom. A couple minutes later a toilet flushing sounded, quickly followed by a loud *bang* from the bathroom. Krysthane winced. Well that wasn't good. It seemed to wake Sepia up because she wriggled out of bed and asked where Skyra was. Krysthane sighed and pointed at the bathroom. "She's in there, last night doesn't seem to have made her feel any better, probably worse by the sounds of thing. I'm not sure what to do to help her, you wanna give it a shot?" Krysthane asked, trying not to sound too desperate. Sometimes people needed space but sometimes you also needed to be there for someone and make sure they knew they weren't alone and stuff. Why were decisions always so hard to make?

Abel Fulgurate

“I'm dreaming,” Abel suddenly told himself. And so he was.

Possessed of a newfound self-awareness, he looked around. In less than a second he laid eyes on a scene that caused him to jump in surprise and fear. It was to his fortune that he jumped backward rather than forward, as a forward jump would have sent him hurtling into open space and an ensuing long, protracted fall to his death. Of course, that would probably just wake him up given what he knew of dreams, but regardless he didn't see this course of events as particularly favorable. Once the beating in his chest subsided, soothed as if a sore moistened by a comfortable wet towelette thanks to his realization, he could clearly see why he didn't want to end the dream just yet.

Before him lay a breathtaking view. He sat on a colossal stony crag extending out from a high-altitude cliff face. Behind him stood a towering redwood forest—a seemingly infinite grove of giants. So vibrant was the red of their bark and so gorgeous the green of their great crowns that they looked straight out of a fairy tale to the amazed guardian. On the other hand, there lay before him a huge and wondrous valley. For a moment Abel mused whether it might have been cut by the steady movement of ancient glaciers across the landscape, though soonafter he remembered that he was in a dream. Why do I need to keep reminding myself all the time? Yet, taking in this scenery, it wasn't hard to see why losing oneself was so easy. Trees, grassy meadows, and glittering rivers formed a mosaic down in the valley.

This was all, Abel thought, just stupendous, and obviously too good to be true. Where were the floods? The thunderstorms, and the earthquakes? Why weren't the creatures of Grimm tearing him apart or throwing him from his rocky perch to properly acquaint him with the rich valley soil? Abel expected some horrific behemoth to emerge from behind one of the snow-capped mountains in the distance any second, but he was glad it did not. Questions swirled in his mind. How did I get here? Why am I dreaming about this? Will I remember when I wake up? He saw no trace of darkness in this temperate paradise. When he breathed in, the air felt crisp, fresh, and above all, free. All of a sudden, the guardian found himself shivering. Something wet rolled down his cheek, causing Abel to stir. What the hell? No way I'm crying about some nice land in a dream. He looked out again at the valley, and found the sun, previously high in the cloudy white sky, beginning to droop. As the sun slid toward the horizon, the landscape changed; the decline of a day was echoed by the earth as a decline in the year. The leaves of trees became vivid yellows, reds, and oranges. Abel watched the grass turn a radiant gold, like hair. He made no motion as the sun drifted toward the horizon and everything began to grow dark, savoring as much as he could the last moments of his splendid vision.

-=-=-

“Urgh.” Abel groaned into his sheet, lying face down. “I'm awake.” And so he was.

Though he was not as awake as he could have been. Like a giant, muscular slug he oozed out of the bed and onto the floor, the experience restoring just enough consciousness so that he could rise to his feet. On autopilot he navigated his way to the bathroom, where he doused himself with water. His electric aura stirred sleepily, sending voltaic tickles across his skin. “Ooh.” This morning, he felt oddly at peace, though he had no idea why. Once he regained his vision, he leaned back through the door to see if his teammates were present. Only one bed seemed to be occupied: Shiro's. Though he looked more like a burrito than anything else, the sleeping faunus was clearly identifiable by his furry ears. Abel expected that his teammate could sleep through practically anything, but he made sure not to test the theory as he went about his business. A visit to the toilet, a sojourn in the shower, an application of deodorant, and a quick update to his stubble later, Abel was back in the room and getting dressed to go to breakfast.

At that moment his scroll, laying on his little desk, vibrated. Abel made no bones about nabbing it quickly and opening it up to see what news had come his way. Memories of the night before popped up in the guardian's mind as he found out that the message was from Krysanthe. The seven-man pizza party had been pretty darn subdued, if Abel remembered it correctly, but he'd enjoyed it well enough. His eyes scanned Krysanthe's message.

For some reason, I'm itching to take a hike through the Emerald Forest. Haven't been since the start of the school year, and it's pretty cool. Lots of nature to go through. Maybe that's something you might enjoy too?

Hoping that he didn't make it obvious that he'd very much like her to go with him, Abel held his breath and hit send.

Varius Gilver | Sticky Situation

@Onarax@Savato@Crimmy

After the help of his comrades, he was able to slice apart some webbing in a small area in an instant, giving him some breathing space to land more firmly on the ground as Taiden set the forest ablaze. As the fire spread, and everyone was getting their bearings, he knew a simple forest fire would not end the Grimm so easily, although it would help with many of the smaller minions. The swarms of smaller Grimm were in disarray, so he was not in danger of an organized attack here while he kept his focus up.

"We should call for fire control to take care of this situation after the mission is over... For now, let's do a bit of pest control", as he said this, small spider Grimm were scattered about, making a mad dash for safety and many others being burned alive, Varius slashed one as it charged them in desperation, and then turned to his team. Visibly he was glowing with a silver aura, showing his focus was ramping up. A little longer and with the right moment, he can end the Ariadne with a single swift motion.

Breakfast

Gren jolted awake. He looked around the room he was in defensive and looking for the enemy. But there wasn't one to be had; he was at Beacon, safe and sound. He was laying in the grass, his massive body leaving a Gren-shaped hole in the ground where he had fallen asleep/lost consciousness. He was only vaguely aware of what might have happened last night. He went out for pizza with Abel, Shiro, Team KSS, and Yue, then he came back to Beacon to work on that jet pack. Obviously it didn't work seeing that he was laid out in the courtyard. He was more curious about how head he must have landed seeing that he was out for at least a good few hours, since last he remembered it was midnight before his last test. Sure enough checking his voice logs his final experiment happened at 0045.

"Good time to get back to work as any."

Getting back to his feet Gren worked his way back towards the workshop. This was his forty second experiment and explosion. None of his original ideas for an aura based propulsion system seemed to work. Try as he might, even if he copied his own power source down to the materials, there was just something about it that Gren wasn't getting right. But he didn't know what, and that annoyed him. He could only keep beating his head against this problem until he came to a realization. Perhaps that was a barbaric approach to science, but science doesn't happen after one attempt. It was a system of trials, errors, inspiration, and serendipity.

As he noticed his energy reserves were dipping below 60%, Gren also added breakfast to the list. Food was always an important part of the body, weather one was a man or machine. Gren woke up a bit too late to make breakfast for his team, but he was certain they wouldn't mind. It was the Weekend after all, and he was certain they had plans anyways. As Gren was about to leave he looked at his work bench and noticed that he had one more prototype jetpack left. He's never tried this one before because this was his grav pack, which didn't provide thrust so much as juiced up his semblance to the point that he could use it to reduce the friction of gravity on his body. In theory at least; in practice he had no idea if this would work. But he was certain it would just cause another explosion.

BOOM!

Gren walked into the cafeteria. He was mumbling to himself and trying to remember how he made that Grav Pack. Because it didn't explode; not immediately. It seemed like he was getting some sort of output that wasn't an explosion. When Gren used it he slipped, but he landed he only slipped again. But on the same spot, not moving. It was very brief, perhaps about five seconds, but it was a breakthrough; Gren had successfully, if only for five seconds, suspend himself in the air. It wasn't until he tried to reach the table to hold himself down did his device explode, and while he was essentially in a zero-gravity zone, was propelled through the air. Wiping the brick dust from his shoulders Gren wasted no time getting a large breakfast of pancakes, eggs, breakfast sausages, and apple juice. Eight pints of apple juice.

Gren saw down and seemed to stare blankly into the air, but he was in fact trying to look over the schematics of that Grav Pack. He chastised himself in his head for making it as a spur of the moment thing, because that meant he left very little direction about how he made it. It was just all bits and pieces where he let his hands guide their creation. His kind had a knack for making workable and impressive machines by intuition, but that only meant it was hard to pass on the knowledge since orcs themselves don't truly understand what they've made. This sort of Black Box technology has been a thorn at his side ever since he became a cyborg. He only had enough workable knowledge to use his machines, but not enough to actually replicate it. Now he was trying to find that spark again because unless he had more Grav Pack prototypes laying around, he doubts he could intentionally recreate it.

Gren was so lost in thought he didn't realize that he had finished all his food and drink, and was starting to eat his plate now.

The forest was burning.

The skies were quickly consumed by black smoke, blocking out the sun. Trees were set ablaze, most melting into slag before they could truly burn. Those further away did not get away harmlessly either, simply catching on fire and spreading their burning embers to turn other trees into kindling. Taidan's rain of fire soon spiraled out of control into a massive wild fire that consumed the forest, the mountains near it, and anything unfortunate enough to be within a 100 meters of anything flammable. This was all thanks to the broodlings webbing that had been spread throughout the entire forest, the perfect fuel to destroy this vast area. The fire spread through the web and into the trees, burning slowly so that the trees themselves would suffer as they caught on fire.

Thousands of animals died. Even more grimm were consumed by the fire. The scorching inferno covered the abyss where the broodlings and Ariadne came, and the smoke prevented any visibility even from the skies. Team CFVY, who was in a town a few miles off, were desperately but failing to contact Team KNVS to find out what was happening. The town was evacuating as the fire grew larger and larger by the minute, and already those at the edge of town could see the fire's glow. Truly, Taidan's power was great. And so was the grimm's penchant for mass destruction, even during their own.

As for the target of this hunt, their fate still remains unknown to Team KNVS. They would have to brave the heat and smoke of the wild fire and dive into the ravine to see what had become of their target. Or perhaps they could simply leave, their mission assumed to be accomplished, seeing that nothing could survive an attack of this strength. One thing was for certain: there was no screams as the fires consumed the woods. No cries. No shouts. Only the roars of fire as the world around them burned to ashes.

Rowan hadn't slept well.

That wasn't to say she had slept badly. If anything, she'd had a better night than nearly anyone else would have in her position. But sitting up in a hospital infirmary chair isn't exactly the best place to take a rest, even if repeated uses have molded the chair to your form. Still, she felt it would have been a disservice to her students--which she considered every injured Hunter and Huntress in training to be, whether they took Practice or not--to leave them to deal with night terrors alone. Yes, Esther had overseen their mission, but she needed to blow off steam herself, and as much as Rowan would have liked to go to the range with her, staying here seemed like the best option. She wouldn't be associated with what they had gone through by a terror-stricken mind, and the nurses could only be expected to do so much.

The night had passed uneventfully for the most part, the silence only broken by the regular beeping of hospital monitors and occasionally a student snapping awake in a cold sweat. She'd just smile, push them gently back down into bed, and say something reassuring, if she could find the words--which was admittedly something hard for her. She always forced everything to a distance if she could keep it there, especially on the battlefield, though as she grew and matured as a teacher (Esther was probably the only one younger than her) she found herself getting more and more attached to her students and their wellbeing, even if she had some difficulty finding the right things to say to them. Disengaging--going into the trance-like state she fell into when fighting--was so much easier on her than allowing herself to feel things as normal, but to actually relate to everyone else...

She shook her head as the morning sun finished its ascent to noon, her focus moving back to the external world and to those moving and resting in the room, specifically the young Cat Faunus, and she sighed. New day, new trials.

"It couldn't possibly be a music genre, could it?"

Gratia Mindaro's gaze never left Luke's, her onyx eyes unblinking as they stared impassively into his grey orbs. The sound of the waves echoed through the night behind her, the water seemingly caressing the sky itself with every undulation. Although her voice was composed and flat, the sarcasm leaking into her words was rather obvious to detect. However, there was no venom whatsoever in the tone. From all appearances, she was merely engaging in conversation with a peer.

Th-That was just the same "toneless sarcasm" I reserved for whenever I wanted to subtly tell one of my sisters they were doing something dumb. Come on, Gratia! I'm trying my best here! Don't treat me like a foolhardy teenager who's about to try and kickflip over his own sister who is in the middle of a hip-bridge!

I'm not nearly as insane as those two for an honest question! Even if they pulled it off!

"Well yeah, obviously. I was wondering what the acronym stood for, but I get it. Look it up myself, no spoonfeeding." I replied off the cuff, admittedly while letting a touch of annoyance slip into my tone and expression. Actually, it probably looked more like pouty muttering...

Try as I might, I was not a stoic like she was.

"What the fuck's up with the cutesy kid pout?"

Her gaze flickered upwards, eyes directly locking themselves upon the ever-present, bizarre strands of hair that grew out of Luke Schwarz's head. There didn't appear to be any reaction from the impossible ahoge, likely because the emotional stimulus lacked the intensity to induce any motion. That was something that she would need to keep in mind; was there a correlation between the intensity of the emotion and the intensity of the hair's movement?

A voice in her psyche wondered what type of drugs she'd been consuming to continue doing such a stupidly pointless study.

She ignored it. She wanted to know exactly what the fuck was going with the hair. What it meant for human emotions. It was an enigma, a ridiculous, cartoonish thing that demanded a proper explanation. Maybe the ignorant masses could be content in their lack of understanding, but she would not allow it to escape her.

Failure was irksome.
