FIVE. MORE. DAYS.

Unfortunately I'm working half a shift that day so I can get off early this Friday, but I promise to use that time to try to get my Zerk through Anor Londo at least. Fortunately I think the access point is at the Cleansing Chapel, so at least I can hop in after work.

Oh shit, I almost forgot. Good thing I have the day off work that day. Still have class to keep me busy until noon though.

Hey guys I was thinking about porting Sapphire and some choice aspects of the RP (and possibly characters if I have permission) to a steampunk short story I'm writing. Anyone have any suggestions?

Can't wait for the patch and the DLC. I'm rushing my Sorceress through NG++ as well.

Trains and blimps are crucial elements to steampunk. Mix it up with some clockwork too to get a whole spectrum of quasi-techy goodness. If it's not action oriented, might I suggest that the political climate being not too dissimilar to the American Gold Rush? Plenty of reason to show off big steamy machines that way, without bloodshed too. Of course you need migrant workers who completely differ from the native population in not just geographical origins, but also appearance and language too. Normally I would suggest trying to portray the plights of Chinese miners in California, but I don't give a shit about the Chinese. Instead do a complete 360: The goldmines are owned by oriental overlords who have "Accepted" down-on-their luck quasi Angelo-Saxon people to do the hard work for them, including both mining and administrating said mines. Of course you can't be too racists, so throw in a exotic asian lady to wants to make things better for the foreigners, but doesn't have the slightest idea of how to do it until you're main character, one of said foreigners, romances her and acts as the spokesperson and leader of a potential worker uprising.

It's a very understated fact, but many steampunk communities tend to have rather communist political ideals. Run the story like the Russians; the proletariat are being ruled over by the bourgeoisie, who in turn make sure that the aristocracy is blind to the plights of the proletariat. Thus your main character should lead the uprising of the proletariat against the bourgeoisie, using his love interest who is among the aristocracy to put pressure on both sides of the bourgeoisie. Of course it's not going to be that easy, as you'll have plenty of enemies who will physically, verbally, and emotionally harm your main character, from simply sending thugs to accost him and his friends to revealing the "affair" your dood is having with the upper-class oriental lady, causing all sorts of controversy that threatens her standing among the upper crust.

As for how Sapphire fits into all of this, I dunno, make her a lesbian or something. Then you can twist it into a sort of feminist/pro-homosexual fic and people won't notice your white washing. It'll make millions I tell you, MILLIONS!

Ah yes, well it's a bit of wish fulfillment tbh. I guess that's what I get for being the pansy and not shacking up to Mr. Frankson when he still thought I was Miss Lee Yang. Let me tell ya, if you ever go back in time seriously consider homosexuality. Sure it's all under wraps, but all the big names need a best friend...

My only experience with steampunk is Dishonored so I can't think of any possible suggestions. Maybe this imgur post might help? And if Robert's among the list of characters you're interested in porting over, go for it. I have no problem with people using my creations in alternate universe type stories and such.

Isn't that a little, how do I say this, given the number of different cultures white people (term used loosely to cover most of Europe, early Canada and past/present US) have oppressed, converted, destroyed and integrated over the centuries isn't making the oppressed people nearly all Angelo-Saxon's while the taskmasters are Chinese sort of insensitive. I think there is a word for "denying the historical mistakes of your culture in order to make yourself feel better about your ancestry". Don't know what the word is but that's sort of what that feels like and definitely what a lot of people would read it as.

As for how Sapphire fits into all of this, I dunno, make her a lesbian or something. Then you can twist it into a sort of feminist/pro-homosexual fic and people won't notice your white washing. It'll make millions I tell you, MILLIONS!

Porting may have been the wrong word, I meant creating a steampunk world in which she serves as a major if not main character. I already have a vague plan was just looking for some discussion and possible ideas. And Homosexuality is never something to just toss on top of a character to make people think you're more diverse than you are. That's both bad character design and looking to please an audience which damages a story on two fronts. If the character is gay they should be gay just cause, it should be reflected in their past, how they deal with other people and how they recognize their own sexuality.

In any case that's not exactly my kind of story but you look to have a pretty good handle on it so you might consider writing that one.

That's the beauty of memes, seraphs: ya don't have to understand or like them.

They just are

Also, blaming white people for destroying cultures is hilarious given how many cultures were annihilated during the Persian, Khan/Mongolian, Chinese and Islamic empires.

I was going to write a big ol' thing rebuking one or the other of you @Lucius Cypher@Prince of Seraphs but I can't figure out who needs one more, so allow me to say that this entire thing is stupid and try to cut it down. So Lucius, please do not take tongue-in-cheek suggestions too far, and Prince, don't blamefully misrepresent things and make pronouncements about what fiction has to do or else be insensitive to reality. 'We', as in you, me, all white people, all people, or whatever you want, aren't responsible for the actions of a few. The actions of people in the past, be it colonization (whether British, Spanish, American, Japanese), to wars throughout history (including Egypt, Greece, and Canaan), to more modern undertakings like the Great Leap Forward, led to countless deaths, and that sure is a shame. But races aren't responsible; people are responsible. I don't believe anyone else here would have picked the fight with Lucius' joke that you have over this perceived issue. Lighten up, will you?
