Why is it assumed this spell struck her sword in the first place? It's still a form of auto-hitting.

@Wraithblade6: I never said any of that was okay.

I just said I wanted to have her use Hakurouken again. Which I mean like... her thinking she needed to draw it to help block or something could have worked. Maybe thinking she didn't get a good enough hit with it and try to use it to stun him and follow up with Roukanken.

@RolePlayerRoxas I propose we make sure every player asks in pm's about every single move their character is going to do before posting it. Plus, we should all roll dice and have stats too, just to make it fair.

Listen everyone this is a issue between wraith and vita. Wraith has agreed to edit it. They don't need your opnions on the issue. If the Gm has a comment then fine, but we don't need to make wraith feel teamed up on. Just settle this in pm's it's what there for

We'll I suppose that all has to do with what sort of spell it was. Most psychic powers/sorcerous powers in 40k aren't bolts or something similar that can be dodged. It more has to do with the willpower/focus of the caster and in some cases (such as many telepathy school powers) the willpower of a living target

@Raineh Daze a near-molten blade is probably going to have a wicked hot grip too. The grip could possibly just burst into fire. Do we seriously need to argue this?


Uh, no that's not okay. Destroying one of her weapons, the only that can actually deal real damage to anything, is not okay.

Also, "I can instantly render any metal item permanently unusable and also cause massive damage if you don't get rid of it immediately and you can't dodge this" would...just be all around bad to have. Since you've basically just said "any character that uses a weapon has no chance of even trying to fight me and Reinhardt/Vader/anyone else with armour will die instantly".

I mean, I get that when your character's a big red demon that treats people being polite as an insult worthy of murder because they don't automatically know he believes he's the king of everything, you've got to have some big tricks up your sleeve. But...that one's a bit much.

@VitaVitaAR I do not want to destroy any character's weapon, and of course I certainly do not want to kill any character or do anything permanent or un-fun to them. We must keep in mind, that although we are trying to play to realism, we are also screwing around intentionally so that nothing unplanned actually ever happens. It is a difficult balance to play a hero or a badass and never actually kill anyone, but that is what we have to do.

The heating is only temporary, btw.

@Tachi I understand your concerns, but heating metal is pretty basic. Anybody with metal parts or armor or weapons would be at a disadvantage if they encountered a simple fire mage, or a hellspawn, or any kind of fire-breathing dragon, etc. All I can promise is that I will find a way not to kill people, just like anyone else would do for me.

I know you already agreed to edits, so I'm just saying this for future reference. No matter how strong the attack may be, you should imply the results rather than outright say them in your post. After you say you're using an attack a certain character has to dodge or block, the ball is in their court to react to that. If they magically keep dodging or blocking attacks they have no right to avoid, then it becomes something that should be discussed in the OOC or with me, directly.

If you attempt to super heat their sword, you can write out how that would affect them if it worked, but it's ultimately up to them to write a response to that. If they fail to react realistically, or simply think that weapon is too prescious to lose, its something you should talk about in the OOC, or again, with me.

Keep in mind this isn't casus beli to just start fights you can't win on your own then never take any hits, either. It's the responsibility of both parties to RP the fight out in a way fun to both of them, no matter the conclusion or flow of the fight.

If anyone has a problem with the above policy, bring it up here or in PMs. I'm willing to hear anyone out, but if edits are being made I don't see a large issue here.

@Wraithblade6: I understand it's only temporary, but being heated to near molten and having the hilt burst into flames would destroy any sword.

To be honest since it's Youkai-forged I don't think it's possible to destroy it anyway, but it certainly came off like that's what you were suggesting.

I think having an attack that will always hit no matter what to deprive someone of their ability to fight is a bad idea in general.

@Wraithblade6 Those situations aren't really the same though. A fireball? Dragon breath? Characters could reasonably dodge these. But as you said, your psychic attack isn't something that can be avoided, it's just an automatic "yep, your weapon's useless now".

Eh if it's like most heat metal spells it's not an ungoing heat it only lasts about 30 seconds and the weapon is always fine. @Tachi@VitaVitaAR

Let's do this. Let the heating be less effective. The sword is very hot and uncomfortable to hold. It is not damaged. The grip is intact.

I feel I should be able to keep the ability to heat metal or telekinetically throw another character, etc., because that's very expected for the character and basic. Any Jedi or Sith could do the same thing, and it's not dodgable for them either. Only will power or magic power or force power or anti-energy could potentially stop something like that. Not something physical. Just cuz one character can't stop it doesn't mean it's an illegal move. @Tachi

There are also characters who can't deal with these powers. These characters are more likely to be the ones affected by the loss of their weapons.

You see where the problem is.

It'd be one thing if this was "it's more effective against group x than against group y", but it's "it does basically nothing to group y, but is an automatic win against group x".
