The objective hadn’t been money this time. Sure, you were getting paid, but you always get paid. No, this time you were stealing an object. Details of the object's origins had never gotten to you, of course. This wasn’t how the job worked. You’re thieves. So your job had been simple: get in, retrieve the item, get out— come home and get paid.
So, like good thieves, you scouted the place out. Did your homework. Got your necessary toys to help you break in and get the object, no big deal. It was easy, it seemed — maybe even too easy. Gathering together, you and your comrades executed your plan perfectly…
But, someone must have been a rat.
As soon as you got your hands on the item (a bloody USB thumb drive, for the record), alarms started blaring and the cops came in through the fucking windows. Sure, you could have tried to fight them, but you were outnumbered 6-1. Somebody threw you down the river.
Hands went into the air. Game over.
Two weeks later
Prison, you’d found, wasn’t that bad. Maybe it was because of your boss’s connections, maybe it was because of the organization you were a part of. Either way, people didn’t really pick fights with you. They left you and yours alone.
You didn’t know who the rat was, yet. Everyone who had been a part of the job was there in the pen with you. They’d given you all different sentences, 25 years or longer with little to no chance of parole…
One day, you and your crew all receive a visit from your boss’s second in command — who happens to be your lawyer, as far as the Bolingbroke Penitentiary officers need to know. All of you get together in a meeting, and he gives you an update on your ‘family.’
“There’s going to be a get-together next Tuesday. At around 2:30 PM. Should be a riot. Your friend’s really sad that they won’t get to pick you up for this.”
What? You’re not stupid, are you? Start a riot. Next Tuesday. 2:30 PM. Don’t fuck this up, or you’re gonna get real used to these prison walls.
3 positions open for the criminals in prison. If you choose to be a person in prison, your rank is a Knight. The rest can be part of the organization or just joining. The ranks available to you are a Knight, a Rook, or a Pawn. If you choose to be a Pawn, you are a new recruit.

Presumably founded by Christopher Helmsley before he even graced US soil, back in the 1990s, early history on the criminal organization known as ‘The Syndicate’ is hard to trace. A few arms deals here and there, assassinations that might have been driven by the war dog and his boys… None of that matters now, not really. By the present day the Syndicate’s tendrils have slithered into almost every lucrative illegal market in the country. From the nearly legal pot-farms in Blaine County, to advanced meth labs in the dark corners of LS, Christopher Helmsley’s illegal enterprises move billions of dollars worth of merchandise yearly.
It’s hard, if not impossible for ourselves and other law enforcement agencies to make a move on The Syndicate, because nothing can be proved and they damn near own the state, half the country and god knows what in other parts of the world. Russian allies are the only thing confirmed. For all we know, most of the people reading the files could be dirty and paid off by Helmsley and his boys. They're too big right now, titanic. I don't even know if we'd win an all out war.
Can we prove that Christopher Helmsley runs the joint? No. No we can’t, because he makes charity appearances, and he donates money and he does everything right. He runs his company and he runs it well, Helmsley Enterprises makes everything. I think they even made this keyboard. He’s a greedy bastard, but he’s good at covering his tracks.
Maybe one day we’ll make headway and we can shut the whole operation down. But not yet. For now, we’re too busy dealing with gang wars and small time dealers to mess with something like The Syndicate. Once they pull a big job and slip up, though… We’ll be all over that. It’ll happen eventually. Greed is good, after all.
